Hi Jeff, I’m doing a power burn test on a new wax called KeraSoy 4130 container wax which is British wax. I was using GW 464 but a third of my candles with that wax doesn’t have a decent hot throw, hence trying this new wax. Here in Australia as far as I know we only have CDN or HPT wicks. With the power burn solid 8 hours KeraSoy wax I’m finding that both HTP and CDN are curling back into the wax once extinguished, which then looks like a big mushroom. So when I go to light it again I have to dig it out and cut it in order to light the candle again. I’ve never had that happen with GW464 when doing power burn. I tried to find information on the manufactures website with no luck. This is a beautiful wax and the finish is amazing. The finished candle looks amazing. I love this wax but fir this issue. I am testing for 8 hours as I know some of my customers have told me they do that. So I’m testing to make sure it’s safe. Any idea why this is happening? I would welcome all comments and advice. Sue Australia.
made my first set of candles, 3 - 8oz candles, I used 1 pound of 415 soy wax and 1oz of snookerdoodle oil and 1/2 oz of cinnamon bun. and my candles when they are not burning you can put your nose in the candle and it smells amazing. but when i burn it you cant smell a thing. What am i doing wrong. thanks.
Help! I use 464 and when I try citrus type scents like Lemon Verbena or Fruit slices (from Rustic Escentuals and CS....) I get a gas smell when I burn. Have tried different wicks, low temp frag add, and curing...so frustrated. The melts will smell great, but not the candles. What am I doing wrong? Primarily use 8 oz jelly jars. Love your videos, so educational! Thanks.
No, because wax has to have a certain percentage. For instance if you’re making a 8oz candle with 10% fragrance oil. The wax and oil together will give you 8oz. If you remelt the wax and add more fragrance then your percentage of oil will be too high. Too much fragrance oil can clog your wick or the oil can seep through.
If you get a fair scent throw and want to have a strong throw, what do you do? Pour hotter, pour cooler? Try a different wick? Exceed the fragrance percentage (can you do this)? I too have a good size bath and I tested as you did but the scent was limited only to the bath, it did not come out to the hall or the bedroom. I have made, and wasted so much wax, wicks and FO trying to get a strong throw. I used Honeysuckle because it was a strong sent in the bottle, 10% in 464 with ECO 6 (which I tested with 4 other wicks ). The scent was good in the bath but did not come out into the hall. I have used the recommended melt, add, & pour temps and I have used the cooler Alex. Nothing helps. I have also done the same with 6006. Please help. I am ready to give up.
Do you do every one of your fragrances in Parasoy? Or have you chosen which wax for each individual fragrance from testing each in all waxes? I'm trying to decide between 464 and 6006 and I put the candles in separate rooms to burn and I can't tell which is stronger.
Just a suggestion, with the next video prior to recording walk the path and count off the number of foot steps. Depending on shoe size (there are 12 inches in a foot) this will determine how many feet of distance the scent will travel. Hope this helps! Great video and you have a beautiful home!
I might sound stupid, I've just made my first candle testing out ratios before trying to make multiple but if you sell a soy candle and they light it in a room such as your kitchen and they can't smell it isn't that bad? I had mine in a large kitchen and it is open to the hallway upstairs ect and my partner couldn't smell it at all but I could faintly, would people continue buying? The cold throw it really strong but when its lit you can only smell it up close. I hope that made sense
Do u add more oil to soy wax for a stronger scent throw? I cant smell my candles much. I'm not sure if 185 is a good temp. And not sure if 1 oz per pound is enough? Please help.
They don't smell much. He did another video about adding scent at a lower temperature to avoid scent burn-off, but still, even this video goes to show that you'll mostly smell it if it's near you in a small, contained space. Adding more scent wont change anything, you might just burn it away at higher temps. People switch to soy-paraffin wax blends to increase their scent throw.
Cheers for this, been searching for "soy wax container candles" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Cenadoelyn Candle Contemplation - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my co-worker got great success with it.
How do you improve hot throw on a soy candle? I’m using goldenwax 415 mixed with 464 and using 10% fragrance oil but hard time getting the hot throw right. Scents are from candle science. Pls help 🤞🏽😭
Ahh any tips? I’m testing my second batch of 464 & a newbie. They are still curing but I’m excited nonetheless. It’s my first time letting them sit for more than 7 days.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom. Do you test every fragrance in every container with “proper wick”? And what do you do with the text candles?
Okay so my questions is, when you do burn test, the first hour what we can smell is the wax smell am I right? Only 2hrs then we can smell some scent? Are customers happy with such results?
Hiya, I was testing 464 as the Q220 will no longer be available. My problem is that after the first burn 2 out of 3 of the candles reset into lumps and bumps only one was smooth. Please can you tell me what's happened as this has never happened to me before.
Just question. Do you know how its possible to make triple scents soy candles. Because there is a company out there called glasshouse and their candles are SOOOO strong. How is it possible when your only suppose to put 10% of the pot weight? My daughter is always comparing my candles to glasshouse candles telling me my candles arent that strong. But i can smell it when they burn. I was just wondering if you would know how they do it. So if their candles are 3 times as stronger, that would mean they put 30% scent to wax. I cant see how that would work.
How do you tell if got enough scent in a lighter scent say linen or something if you have already added the maximum scent the wax will hold because some people want something subtle say like a office thx
I don't know if you'll see that message but I hope maybe you could help me :-/ I'm selling candles and I made a few tests for each fragrance, everything was ok, smell was strong. Now I'm selling those candles (I made them all at the same time so it's not a different batch) and most of them don't smell at all or just a little bit... :-/ Do you know what could have caused this ? I searched everywhere and I can't find any reasons why the candles how throw changed 😔
If you’re using soy wax then it is most likely the wick. Soy can be tricky getting a good hot throw when lit. I would try a few different wicks and also test them a week after pouring to see how strong they are before selling.
So I got my soy wax, dye blocks and scents from hobby lobby and I heat it to 180° and then I put in 1oz of scent at 160° and I let it sit for 24 hours, lid off and when I burn it it will not scent. Am I doing something wrong???
You said you redo it. Do you redo THAT candle or start over and make another making adjustments? I'm pretty sure it's make another but I want to be sure.

When you try new oil ratios in the wax do you re use the same candle and just add more oil or do you start fresh with all new wax and oils

I like to test every fragrance at least once in a set up that I know works. I test them in the 8oz jelly jar.
I usually burn all the way through most test candles. Some do end up on a shelf though forever. :D
