A few quick tips wow yes now i see an on line class ty
This was so helpful. Im just starting out, and I love your videos. Thank you so much.
GrT video. I will now purchase Vybar because you taught me something for sure. Thnx
Thank You for tips 😘
OUTSTANDING VIDEO! Very informative thank you
Out of all the videos I’ve been watching this month, this one is definitely one that’s was helpful letting me know how important it is to choose the right wax and wick.
Thanks for the info!
Thank you for this informative video. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge, learning curves, & successes so others can benefit from them.
👍Thanks for all the details. But after making my own for a while now I appreciate all the efforts of candle companies. The masculine scents are my favorite for covering cooking smells. Glad there are more in stores now.
This is what I need !!
Thank you from the UK. Just started making my own candles for my own use. Great advise. Hope 2023 is a brill year for you and your family,
thanks for the knowledge
great video. thank you so much!
Thank you!!!
Your videos are always so easy to follow and helpful. Thank you for all your hard work to help us out! 😊
You’re welcome and Thank you for watching.
Awesome thank you for the 411 💖
I see definitely a huge difference in candle hit throw and over all performance when I cure them longer. With 464 after a month is the best hot throw and the wick (CD and Eco) are not mushrooming, like They do after a couple of days or Even two weeks. Candles are burning slower and the surface also looks betre after buring.
Thank you 🙏 very helpful video 🪔🪔🪔
Thank you ❤
Thank you so much
More than help. thanks thanks thanks
Thank you
Thank you so much for this video. I use soy wax and i'm in the process of testing. I let it cure for 5 days and didn't get a very good heat throw so now I'm gonna let it cure for 2 weeks.
Thanks Jeff, I just used up a candle and thought it would be fun to make a candle… now I’m as passionate about making candles as I am about fabricating steel and wood for these past 45 years! Of course I had no idea about the science of a great candle. Nor did I know a thing about welding 46 yr. ago either, and I went to school to learn that too!
So thank you for holding class I am learning a lot. I found you today and will subscribe.
That’s incredible and welcome to candle making!! Thank you for subscribing. 😃
Thank you for the curing part of the video! I’ve been making candles only a few months and everywhere I’ve read or anything I’ve listened to has said “let cool for a couple of hours.” I just started using silicone molds (I use soy) and lo and behold after a couple of hours I tried to take it out and wax wasn’t sturdy enough and there’s two finger marks going down the side of each candle. I just thought “okay I suck at this.” Haha so yes thank you so much
Thanks!!
Yes please Jeff I need more clarification about additives please and also any suggestions to use names and brand
Thanks alot.
I use different waxes depending on the style of candle I am doing (Pillar, container, soy, paraffin, coconut soy) I have to take into consideration colour, scent, wick. When you change one thing you have to re look at the entire recipe.
Absolutely love watching your videos. I've been a chandler for 8 years and I learn (or review) something new everytime. I personally love C3 Soy wax. It's my tried and true, I also add vybar 260 and a UV stabilizer.
Please witch temp do you add FO and pour
I finding this as well. I do allow my 464 to cure for a long time and lo and behold so far all the ones I have tested have burned evenly and the fragrances have held up nicely.
Hi Jeff! I love candles and am new at trying to make some of my own! Your videos are super helpful :) You mentioned that some fragrances are dangerous to burn, and I was wondering which ones were dangerous before I started to make one 😅 thanks again for posting!
I have been watching a lot of videos lately about candle business, with lots and lots of tips. Personally I would love for one of you people becoming successful in this do give us a direct specific lists of exact vessel, wax, oil, and wicks to start with to make it easier to begin. I know that asking for a lot given all the free tips you hand out. Maybe even creating your own wax, oils, and wicks to sell to us? Just a thought. Much appreciated the video ( subscribed ) and will keep watching!
Thank you for the tips. I have been following you since having the thoughts to try to make candles, have tried everything but the vybar. Thanks again.
Let me know how it works for you.
I made sure to read the comments first before asking. I'm intrigued to see how vybar will enhance my HT but then I will not be able to advertise my candles as natural anymore. Is it a good idea to educate customers on the subtle HT they'll get with natural candles or just brace for negative feedback? I use coco/soy wax
Hi Jeff! I love candles and am new at trying to make some of my own! Your videos are super helpful :) You mentioned that some fragrances are dangerous to burn, and I was wondering which ones were dangerous before I started to make one thanks again for posting!
Soywax is definitely my favourite, but it's quite costly in Malaysia. Thanks for the knowledge sharing ☺️ it's so amazing.
I switched to soy they burn longer and dont create soot. I used to ude paraffin. Soy is also prettier and i get a better pool from soy.
I just came across your channel. Thank you. I just changed to soy... I will be going back to paraffin.
This man is a hero. Thanks for always reading my mind with questions I didn't want to ask. Thanks Jeff.
😂you’re welcome!!
Thank uou
Thanks Jeff for another great video, I use 464 with CD wicks they burn clean and the HT is amazing my customers love it. Funny with my 8oz jelly jars, and 8oz straight sided jars I use HTP and they work great as well.. Hope you and your family are doing great!
What size jar and what number wick with 464
I'm also curious what wick size you use.
I recently switch 464 to apricot coconut cream . I like it and soon I m try paraffin wax melt, tarts .
I love the coconut soy.
Almost at 100k … I can’t wait to celebrate with you… I loved the CLASS… 🙏 thank you
Thank you so much for coming to the class and I can’t wait to hit that 100K!! 😁
I started making my candles about three months ago and I love watching your videos. So informative, thank you so much! Your videos definitely have helped me become more confident in my candle making process. 😊👏🏼
Thank you for watching!
Hi.
Thank you for sharing all of this, there are very informative.
I was wondering if you can show some examples while you are talking, I am new in all of this and it will help a lot to see what are you referring to.
Even some pictures will help a lot.
Once again, thanks
Top tip, don't get out to lunch on your testing lol reputable suppliers recommendations are spot on if not really close to where you need to be at for a successful candle "kiss"
This is key for most beginners. Listen to eh manufacturer suggestions and you will be more successful in your candles.
Question? What’s the BEST cotton wick to use with the Virgin Coconut from Wooden Wick Co?
I use GB 464 and Cold throws are amazing. My Hot throws are pretty good too not as strong as my 6006 candles, however my 6006 candles burn super fast compared to my 464 candles.
This is my first time watching your videos and i have never made any candle before but im interested in learning more from you thank you very much...can you atleast give me a list of what I need as a beginner
Would love to see your take on soy 10.
Do you think mixing coconut 83 blended with 6006 would give a good hot throw? What ratio would you recommend? And what wick would work best for a blend like this? CD series?
Hi, I am a beginner in making candles. In this video you have mentioned about additive. What is its use? Can you please explain for me?
Great video really helpful ,please Can you explain what you mean by the 8% of fragrance that should be added
I start it off with soy and seem like it was good for me but now it’s not burning the way you still trying to figure out how to fix it. Love the video my try some of those things and see if they help.
I'm thinking about going into the candle-making business from home, I'm older with limited funds. Do you have any suggestions for me? Absolutely no experience here, I'm just intrigued by the science of it all. Thank you for such a clear, concise, and easy-to-follow video. You have a new subscriber here!
I’m new to candle making, I received a candle making kit for Christmas and would love any tip you have to offer, thank you.
Can you do a video on using vybar? Can that be used with coco apricot wax? Or WW New hemp wax?
Thank you for sharing..I'm new to candle making & I want to do this.
I enjoy making them alot.. so your tips are definitely helpful but I thought for sure soy was one of the better wax for a scent throw I wanted them go as natural or organic as I could I even got hemp cord to make my own wicks..so did I hear you right when u talked about wax and the scent throw tht parrafin was better in tht aspect I see they make a parrafin and soy wax together..how would tht do and could I mix it myself..
fixed income here (disability)
so I need to make every dollar spent count..again thank you for sharing this video I am very appreciative
Thank you
Hi Jeff, love your videos and look forward to seeing more as you post them. I’m really hoping you can help or someone out there can. Do you or anyone out there make Reed diffusers and if so I’d love to hear back. I’ve encountered a problem with my diffusers. I’ve been making them for nearly 2 years with great scent throw. On the weekend I discovered that my diffusers are not throwing any scent unless you put your nose to the reeds. Same oils used from same supplier. Oils are not old since I replenish my supply regularly. I’ve been using rattan reeds so replaced them and tried another test with fibre reeds, shook the bottle as well but still no improvement. Yet same oils are used in candles without any issues. Anyone have any ideas. I’d be ever so grateful if anyone can help. Sue from Australia
Jeff, Thank you for this great information. Can essential oils and fragrance oils be combined to create new scents?
Standley, what company/companies do you personally use or recommend, to buy the best quality fragrance oils & waxes? I’m researching, to start my own candle business ASAP! Thank you!
Hello Jeff thank you for these good information but I have a question. I am a Beginner candles maker and I have been use Soy Wax. My question is which wax do you prefer to use that can make the smell more strong and last longer
Hi so I use 464 and I heat to about 180 sometimes hotter & then I add FO in at about 145-150, is this a good method? Would adding coconut/soy wax do anything? Or should I get some paraffin to add to help with HT, & how much do I add? Sorry for all the question!
I have been using IGI 4630 as well as mixing it with GB 464 and the cold throw has been terrible! Any suggestions on fixing that?
Hi. At what temperature do you suggest vybar be added?
I don't want to sound sexist but I love how the one Man I've watched in a tutorial video is straight to the info. Super practical.
I still don't know exactly how many drops of oil to use when making small candles haha but for the information I've gathered so far, it seems I'm just going to have to screw up various times to get that right
Thank you!
For oil I typically use 1.2oz per 1lb of wax which is 8% fragrance load. Check my calculators on the website site for more.
www.westsoundcandlesupply.com/pages/calulators
This is awesome. Ty so much for this info@@StandleyHandcrafted
I use 444 soy and LX wicks and use no vyber. Hot throw is always top notch. I double wick or triple wick
Thank you for the info! I started out testing 464 last year and hated it, so I ended up trying Coco Bright, C-6, CCS #12, IGI 6006, and now I'm going to try 444 (since I've heard that it's better during the summer and some 444 users said it gives a better HT than 464). I was planning on double-wicking the 444, but was worried since I couldn't find any 444 users double-wicking. For some reason, 464 gave me the best HT out of all those other waxes, so I must be doing something wrong.
I'm trying to make and sell candles for a fundraiser, but I'm having the hardest time. Making wax tarts/melts is so much easier and way more fun :/
@@jenna4519 I have noticed a stronger cold and hot throw adding fragrance at about 150 however, I end up with holes and cracks and have to use heat gun lol. I am testing the 444 mixed with a little coconut oil now for more throw. I typically stick to 10% fragrance load
What is the difference with the different series of wicks?
Hi. I am new to candle making and has problems with HT. I saw a video where you add it at a low temperature. Is still the one you use?
Which cocunut wax do you recommend
Do you add vybar when adding the fragrance oil or when starting to melt the wax?
What was the eco additive you mentioned? Thanks
Vybar has a variety in numbers. Which one u talked about?
I'm using golden wax 444 not getting a good HT. Using cotton wax wicks. But CT is excellent. What can I do? Only using it for Summer orders. I have Joy wax too. Will that work in Summer Temps too? TIA
I use joy wax in this 8 oz an 16 oz jar what wick should be used in each one? From 16 -17 company ..crystal blue -red -black an light pink jars. That you had ..gold rim
How do I add essential oils to fragrance oil
i swear im getting so overwhelmed...i have the technique to making them down pack how to desire making what i like but its the smells that is giving me such a hard time. I want to learn all these different terms but its becoming overwhelming speaking honestly!!!!!
I agree
Hi Jeff! How long do you cure parasoy candles?
One thing I'm most curious about it, what about the size of your jar? As you pointed out in this video, different waxes take more or less heat to burn, and certain wicks burn hotter or colder, how does the size of the jar your using affect this? Would you want a wick that burns hotter for bigger jars?
So, first off...I love your videos!! Very Informative! Question...I have been matching how much wax I use to how much fragrance to use. For example...1 oz fragrance to 1 pound wax. Is that correct? I'm not understanding the percentage.
Hopefully you've figured it out as you posted 5 months ago 😁
As long as you don't exceed the manufacturer's guide to how much fragrance oil to add you're ok.
10% fragrance oil for 464 is a maximum. The wax physically can't hold more than that and the excess fragrance will settle on the bottom or the top, and it will choke the wick and the wick will go out all the time from being too saturated in oil.
Hi, how long would you recommend hemp soy wax to cure ? It’s a blend of hemp, soy, coconut and food grade paraffin.
Can you do a video on how to make piller candles?
I will have to do a pillar style candle
Thank You so much for this video. But I need a one on one class
We can definitely do that!
Please let me know❤ Thank You
Definitely need a one on one!
I need a 1on1 asap 😁
How to pour wax 464 for pot adhesion
I often have air bubbles that form
Hi, I'm new to candle making. I am struggling with getting a strong scent throw. I'm using coconut/soy wax. I've been using wooden wicks. I've tried a variety of wooden wick sizes with no luck. I get a great scent throw when I'm making the candle but when burning it, I smell nothing. Do you think my wooden wicks are the problem?
Wth, never heard to Hot Throw. Interesting, but think this is for pros, not me. Great video, much appreciated.
Hot throw is just the name for throwing the scent when lit. 🙂
Hi Jeff, I’ve been following you for nearly 12 months and your videos and information you supply are very helpful. One question I have and that is what is the best way to test a new candle scent. For example I’ve made many test candles to test scent and go throw lot of material. I’m wondering if I just want to test my oil combinations scent initially could I make the melts first to test if I like the scent then make couple of candles with different type of wick to do a proper burn and scent test? Sue from Down Under
If you want to test a fragrance oil just to smell then melts are ok but if you’re testing a candle to see if it throws the scent well then you definitely want to make a full candle with that oil and test.
You can test smaller sizes also and not for through as much supply. I do that quite a bit.
And thank you for watching!! 😁
@@StandleyHandcrafted Dear Jeff, thank you very much. Yes I just wanted to test the scent to get the idea before I make the candle. Thank you very much for you response. Sue
What oil brands do you recommend for paraffin?
Hello! With a parasoy blend how long should I cure the candles ?
Hello im new at making candles I like using soy wax 464, what I don't understand is when you say use about 8% of F.O what is 8% in Ounce term do that mean 2 oz. Of fragrance I'm just trying to get a understanding and a strong throw as well
Fragrance oil can do something called “induced polarity.” Good luck with that.
When speaking of how much oil to add ,if the bottle is 2oz how much oil should go into to a ten pound bag of wax.
Thank you
Hey do you think about mixing soy and paraffin?
Great video Jeff!! Can you do a wax test on 415 wax because I do get good results but I find myself doing wick testing a lot. I find RRD37 works great for most of my FO in my 9oz straight sided jar. To get a good HT for Vanilla FO’s is very light and subtle but never strong so I gave up on making straight vanilla scented candles. Any suggestions and are you willing to do a test on 415 soy wax because there is others that uses it and have questions as well too… Thanks again and nice work!! 🙂🙂
I hope he does do a test for that wax because it’s the least talked about in the industry. And I’m new to candle making after buying 464 and not getting any HT I decided to try 415 and to my surprise it’s not bad great top too. So please Jeff do a review for us🙏🏾
I am in the same situation using the 415 and I am in a testing period. He talks about an additive to improve the smell, can it also be used with the 415? And what would be the additive?
Hi!
I am using 464 wax, I noticed you suggested adding either vybar 260 or parrafin to increase the Hot Throw.
Can you assist in what % of either of these you would add to your soy wax please?
And which of these 2 additives do you prefer?
Thankyou.
Well since he didn’t answer you. Do not put vybar into a pre blended wax. You don’t know how much the manufacturer has already put in and if you add more you could bind your scent and have a dud candle. Vybar is needed for waxes that do not already have additives. You can add paraffin 10-20-30 percent and so on, and another one is stearic acid same percentage. You could actually even make a 100 percent stearic candle. Just got to test test test and spend an enormous amount of money. 😊
Thank you so much for posting this video. I have a question though. I purchased some 8 oz tins from Amazon. What I need to know is what would be the best wick for them. Currently I use a wooden wicks. However I want to use the regular wicks as well any suggestions?
The HTP 104 works well in those tins
@@StandleyHandcrafted thank you. I'll give it a try
