Absolutely love watching your videos. I've been a chandler for 8 years and I learn (or review) something new everytime. I personally love C3 Soy wax. It's my tried and true, I also add vybar 260 and a UV stabilizer.
I finding this as well. I do allow my 464 to cure for a long time and lo and behold so far all the ones I have tested have burned evenly and the fragrances have held up nicely.
Thanks Jeff, I just used up a candle and thought it would be fun to make a candle… now I’m as passionate about making candles as I am about fabricating steel and wood for these past 45 years! Of course I had no idea about the science of a great candle. Nor did I know a thing about welding 46 yr. ago either, and I went to school to learn that too! So thank you for holding class I am learning a lot. I found you today and will subscribe.
👍Thanks for all the details. But after making my own for a while now I appreciate all the efforts of candle companies. The masculine scents are my favorite for covering cooking smells. Glad there are more in stores now.
Thanks Jeff for another great video, I use 464 with CD wicks they burn clean and the HT is amazing my customers love it. Funny with my 8oz jelly jars, and 8oz straight sided jars I use HTP and they work great as well.. Hope you and your family are doing great!
Hi Jeff! I love candles and am new at trying to make some of my own! Your videos are super helpful :) You mentioned that some fragrances are dangerous to burn, and I was wondering which ones were dangerous before I started to make one 😅 thanks again for posting!
I see definitely a huge difference in candle hit throw and over all performance when I cure them longer. With 464 after a month is the best hot throw and the wick (CD and Eco) are not mushrooming, like They do after a couple of days or Even two weeks. Candles are burning slower and the surface also looks betre after buring.
Thank you so much for this video. I use soy wax and i'm in the process of testing. I let it cure for 5 days and didn't get a very good heat throw so now I'm gonna let it cure for 2 weeks.

I use different waxes depending on the style of candle I am doing (Pillar, container, soy, paraffin, coconut soy) I have to take into consideration colour, scent, wick. When you change one thing you have to re look at the entire recipe.

I still don't know exactly how many drops of oil to use when making small candles haha but for the information I've gathered so far, it seems I'm just going to have to screw up various times to get that right
Thank you! For oil I typically use 1.2oz per 1lb of wax which is 8% fragrance load. Check my calculators on the website site for more. www.westsoundcandlesupply.com/pages/calulators
I have been watching a lot of videos lately about candle business, with lots and lots of tips. Personally I would love for one of you people becoming successful in this do give us a direct specific lists of exact vessel, wax, oil, and wicks to start with to make it easier to begin. I know that asking for a lot given all the free tips you hand out. Maybe even creating your own wax, oils, and wicks to sell to us? Just a thought. Much appreciated the video ( subscribed ) and will keep watching!
I start it off with soy and seem like it was good for me but now it’s not burning the way you still trying to figure out how to fix it. Love the video my try some of those things and see if they help.
I'm thinking about going into the candle-making business from home, I'm older with limited funds. Do you have any suggestions for me? Absolutely no experience here, I'm just intrigued by the science of it all. Thank you for such a clear, concise, and easy-to-follow video. You have a new subscriber here!
Thank you for the curing part of the video! I’ve been making candles only a few months and everywhere I’ve read or anything I’ve listened to has said “let cool for a couple of hours.” I just started using silicone molds (I use soy) and lo and behold after a couple of hours I tried to take it out and wax wasn’t sturdy enough and there’s two finger marks going down the side of each candle. I just thought “okay I suck at this.” Haha so yes thank you so much
I made sure to read the comments first before asking. I'm intrigued to see how vybar will enhance my HT but then I will not be able to advertise my candles as natural anymore. Is it a good idea to educate customers on the subtle HT they'll get with natural candles or just brace for negative feedback? I use coco/soy wax

Thank you for the info! I started out testing 464 last year and hated it, so I ended up trying Coco Bright, C-6, CCS #12, IGI 6006, and now I'm going to try 444 (since I've heard that it's better during the summer and some 444 users said it gives a better HT than 464). I was planning on double-wicking the 444, but was worried since I couldn't find any 444 users double-wicking. For some reason, 464 gave me the best HT out of all those other waxes, so I must be doing something wrong. I'm trying to make and sell candles for a fundraiser, but I'm having the hardest time. Making wax tarts/melts is so much easier and way more fun :/
@@jenna4519 I have noticed a stronger cold and hot throw adding fragrance at about 150 however, I end up with holes and cracks and have to use heat gun lol. I am testing the 444 mixed with a little coconut oil now for more throw. I typically stick to 10% fragrance load

Well since he didn’t answer you. Do not put vybar into a pre blended wax. You don’t know how much the manufacturer has already put in and if you add more you could bind your scent and have a dud candle. Vybar is needed for waxes that do not already have additives. Hi Stanley. Nice video. I have a question , like Paraffin wax because it hold colors very very well and has very strong scent throw, but I heard that it is harmful when burn. What's your reply on this?
Honestly, you’re going to find studies on both sides, showing both viewpoints. I have seen a few studies showing that paraffin is harmful, and I have seen several studies that show paraffin is no more harmful than any other wax. Most paraffins these days or food grade paraffins, which are far less harmful than people want to make them out to be
Do you think mixing coconut 83 blended with 6006 would give a good hot throw? What ratio would you recommend? And what wick would work best for a blend like this? CD series?
Hey Jeff! Love the content. I have a question about cute times. In one of your older videos you mention that cute times really don’t matter but in this one you seem to change slightly. Has your philosophy changed since that first video? I’m hoping to be able to cut down on my curing times but need to run my own tests first.
It really depends on what you’re curing for honestly. If you are curing just a test or you can test most waxes after about 3 to 5 days and you’ll be just fine. In order to get proper wicking, you definitely need to wait a little bit longer than that so the wax is fully hardened, which is typically anywhere from 10 to 14 days for a lot of soft waxes. Most paraffins when you’re testing wicks, you can test after about two or three days
So I’m using 464 in my candles. Basically what you’re saying is the longer the wax sits the harder it will become. Will that change the wick size required much? Example: I ran a test after about a week of curing and knew the wick was too big after the first or second burn. Scooped out the wax and remade the candle with a smaller wick. Because I didn’t let it cure again for longer is it possible that the smaller wick won’t work even though it’s doing great?
Wow thank you so much for the reply! 😃 blended waxes 929 with 8%. Adding oil at 186 pouring at 170-174 I cure for 10 days or more but I’ve had some literally turn to mush in shipping. And most all sweat badly… any thought
Standley, what company/companies do you personally use or recommend, to buy the best quality fragrance oils & waxes? I’m researching, to start my own candle business ASAP! Thank you!
One thing I'm most curious about it, what about the size of your jar? As you pointed out in this video, different waxes take more or less heat to burn, and certain wicks burn hotter or colder, how does the size of the jar your using affect this? Would you want a wick that burns hotter for bigger jars?
Straight to the point, no fluff, 100% fat-free video. Nice job.

Beeswax doesn’t hold FO as well as the rest of the waxes.

You need to heat most waxes to around 180°-190° F

Hi Jeff! How long do you cure parasoy candles?
One thing I'm most curious about it, what about the size of your jar? As you pointed out in this video, different waxes take more or less heat to burn, and certain wicks burn hotter or colder, how does the size of the jar your using affect this? Would you want a wick that burns hotter for bigger jars?
