Another great video, Erica! Thanks for always sharing your journey with us. I launched my candle business last November and have been following you since August of that year. As a disabled maker, your videos were a huge part of what gave me the confidence to finally do what I'd been dreaming to do. It was the best decision and its partly down to you 😍
Hi ! I am new in the candle making. As I hear all what you say I could not help myself and I decided to write my experience that can give more light about this topic and maybe could contradict some of the things you are saying here. Not my intention to do that, it is just my need to share my personal experience. I did a testing candle with a metal tin of 2.5" diameter, placed a WI767 wick for a C6 wax with 1 gram of Crisco, and use 7.5% of fragrance oil -Cinnamon from American Candle Supply Co. I let it cure for 13 days. Results: Tin never got hot; no mushroom; the flame didn't consume all the wax, but...OMG the hot throu was amazing. My house is big and long. I could smell the cinnamon all the way down the living room, the dining room and 3 bedrooms, until the back entrance of my house by the Kitchen. I don't know if it was the quality of the fragrance, or the additive (Crisco-very small amount), but that hot throw I have never got it from any other of my testing. Thank you for reading this long comment. God bless you!
I realize this is a very old comment but if you happen to see this I would love to know why the crisco? I have come across several comment like this over the past few weeks but I can seem to understand what the benefits of adding the crisco are. Thank you!
HI Erica, I use EC-26 Coconut Soy with all wooden wicks, I have not had any problems with 10%FO using this combination for anyone who has questions about Wooden wicks.
hi!! this sounds like a better option because, even though wooden wicks are more expensive, you waste less from testing so much with normal wicks… because wooden wicks are more consistent i hear… may i ask what diameter jar you use and which wooden wick?
This could not have come at a better time!! Also I was rewatching one of your old videos and you mentioned trying to find a local supplier to cut down shipping costs and time. I took that advice and found one not even 10 miles from me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
This is great video!!!! I plan on getting started on videos and just give everyone a starting point, With jar, wax, wick and FO, that i think works great then they can take it from there.
Thanks again for another great video. I’m using Coco Apricot Creme wax with 3in diameter tins. I’ve been on the hunt for a jar like the Monaco but with a lid. I feel like i don’t like vessels without lids… that Monaco jar is beautiful and I’ve added it to my cart several times but changed my mind because it has no lid. Do you feel like lids make a difference in the candle cure/throw process ?
Hey Erica, just a quick question, I can't find the video where you say the diameter of your Large candle vessel, also what is a diameter that you recommend and that is better to double wick? Something over 3" ?
?? If double wicking- do we adjust wick size? For example if a wick guide says use size 10 for 3 in diameter vessel but we double wick- how does that affect wick size? Or do we stay same wick just two of them? Cuz wick guides do not list for double or triple wicking! Thanks! Please I hope you see this and answer ! Thanks again
always go waay smaller! You don't want to use two size 10 wicks for a double wick, that would be crazy overwicked. Check out this video of mine: ruclips.net/video/1ilFls5f0Xk/видео.html
Hi Erica! Do you have a preference for where you buy your fragrance oils as well as jars? Im from Canada, and am trying to narrow down some Canadian companies so wondered if you also had any recommendations!
Hi Erica, thanks for this video. I have a difficulty getting a good hot throw. I am using pure soy wax with 8% FO, but it does not work for me. I will try to use the tips that you gave on this video. Keep sharing. Thank you.
Thanks for much for sharing your journey. I think you’re awesome. Have you heard about c6 i am having trouble with the HT , i have tried Soy and with soy i got a good HT but hated the frosting, i tried soy coconut and know i am trying c6 from candle wic
Hi! I personally wouldn’t recommending choosing that one as your bulk testing oil. Oils with a lot of vanillin can perform differently than a lot of other oils 🤍
What if you are using 7-9% beeswax and the rest botanical oils (body oil candle) and want to add FO. Would you go by just the wax or as a whole wax and botanical oils?
Wooo almost to 100k subs!!! Would love to hear your experience with wooden wicks if you do ever end up messing around with them! I messed with hemp wicks a little but went straight to wooden wicks and haven’t left yet 😅 having a lot of fun with them!

I am scared of shopping online from other countries, how do I know those are good supplies? Any advice? Where should I start? Again loooove your channel! 💙
Ive been watching your videos and its really helpful! Still on my testing phase and im struggling with my HT. Is 11% FO recommended using candlescience?
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo oh my gosh thank you for replying! My supplier said its 10% but I still tried using 11%. Is there ant side effects I should observe? I’m still curing it. Also, how long do you usually cure your candles?
Thank you for this video! I have been having such a hard time getting a HT on a jelly donut fragrance! The only thing I haven’t tried is double wicking my jar! That’s next on my list now! Have you ever worked with a jelly donut fragrance?! 💗🙏🏻

I have been using GB 464 and have tried like 20 different scents. I just cant with this wax . I just opened my business and the BEST hot throw I've had is LEMONGRASS ( fragrance) used both tins and glass tumblers ... cure for 6 days minimum. My god . I add fragrance at 180°f . I dont know if I should make my line fragrance free reiki candles or keep throwing money out the window .... invested 5k and spent the last year testing and building this business lol! I do 1 oz per pound of wax ... I have 3 fragrances I'm going to test and stick with them and I'm done lol vanilla, eaucalyptus spruce and Timberlake from Village Craft . Pray for me 😂
464 needs 7-14 days to cure minimum. The longer it sits the better, what wick are you using? Also try low temp method add FO at 160-170 then pour at 140-145
@@stacyrichardson4997 I am using HTP 1212 , HTP 105 , for my 3inch dimater glass jars ... they burn too hot , melt pool is too deep ... but every other wick I've tried unferperforms and tunnels... still havent found the " perfect " size and I've tried 5 different wicks lol! I hate wet spots so I pour at °120 and that's the only sweet spot for not having the damn wet spots. In the tins I can pour hotter because you cant see the wet spots lol
I don't think I can get soy #10 as its from California. It will cost 107 dollars just for shipping. So what is the best wax from flaming candle would you guys say
It all depends on testing testing testing. 100% soy literally takes like one month to cure. Paraffin or paraffin blends take like 2 week cure. Also some oils are more concentrated that others. I recommend checking those out. I started making candles 10 years ago and candle science was the only go to place, but now so much more sources and videos and guides. Which is better for new makers. There was this one older paraffin wax I once used and it was super good with hot throw I mean good. But they no longer make it. I would use it with premier wicks. I'm not so much a fan of wooden wicks cause it soots so much when you burn for over 2 hours no matter what. Good luck makers.
@@studybuddy36 You can but if you want a hot throw it's better letting it cure longer. It also depends on the wax you use. You need to let the oils concentrate into the wax.
I almost gave up thanks a million for breaking this down in kindergarten term because I’m kinda slow especially with MATH! I’m clueless So if I’m making a single candle 8oz and the FO is between 6-10% I’m I just picking a % for example adding 8% in this single jar?
The answer: cure your candles! I found two cases I made in the summer and forgot about! They smell AMAZING!
same thing happened to me!
Same here
YESSSS!
How long to cure for beeswax?
Yeah i agree. Maximum 2 weeks of curing the candles will give a really good hot throw. 😊
