  • The screw modifier is extremely powerful giving you a way to make some very complicated shapes very easily. Ultimately it's the revolve operation in many CAD programs with a little twist. We'll be covering the basics of the screw modifier all the way to creating Threads, Spings and helixes all while doing our best to stay precise and further our knowledge of blender 3.0 / 2.9 precision modelling.

The best to ever do it! It's been a year, but the benefit of it still remains.

    Hey you!
Thank you for all the work you’ve done, you’ve actually saved my a** on an incredibly important work project with a few past videos and I haven’t stopped watching you’re videos on the daily ever since! I sometimes just listen to learn all I can when I’m stuck driving and rewatch later!
    I appreciate you!
Anyway!… came to comment because I’m looking for that video about circles for 3d printing you said might be coming about 10 minutes into this video. I would love to see that!
Again, thank you for all you do! And I’m loving CADsketcher!

It doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet, so just so you know, the smooth shading can be changed. In the screw modifier, click on the dropdown for normals and deselect smooth shading.

Before watching this, I was afraid to even try to use the screw modifier. Now I wonder why. I always thought that making something like threads or springs would be super difficult. Well, with very basic CAD tools, it can be. I started with various CAD programs 20 years ago, so believe me, I know basic. New tools like Blender blow my mind, mainly because it can be hard to unlearn old methods and bad habits. When I watch smart tutorials like this, I feel like I'm an old guy sitting in a classroom with young kids in school again and they're all staring at me like I'm weird and shouldn't be there.

Bill, I 100% know where you are coming from. At then end of the day just remember that everyone has been in that same spot at some point while learning this crazy program 😃

I was actually looking for a solution to make a snailhouse in Blender. This tutorial wasn't helpful at all for that purpose of course, but damn was it fascinating to watch! Now I know how to make a screw, maybe for later :) Really well done tutorial and a lovely voiceover as well!

    Hi Jonathan,
very nice series, you helped me get a long way from 3ds max to blender... thank you so much
since you've uploaded the organization video, don't forget to add it to the description, it's still "coming soon"

Very nice and to the point, just like always, that's what I like with your videos. Just one thing to note, maybe someone will find this useful; if you want to just drag a vertex handle out without rotating the vertex you can select just the handle and do a scale (S), it does the same as the slightly more complicated setup. Not sure if this works before 3.0.1, I'm too lazy to try O:-)

After parting element from the screw CAD transforms is unable to snap vertices of this new element when I do this, there is no orange circle around vertices of this element. All other element's vertices can be snapped this way. Should I do something after parting to make it work?

How can I add vertices to the screw modifier? I can only move the vertices I created in the single vert but not the entire object has vertices..

Hey Raimundas Pavilonis , Half and half it's about design right this minute. A lot of it can be implied into 3D printing or laser cutting. With time It's going to be a real mix.

  • @barry1902
    @barry1902 2 года назад +2

That bolt addon also restricts the breadth to 50mm so if you want to make a screw cap container with the bolt add on it will have to be 50 or less in diameter. Why go to the effort of making an addon just to restrict people from using it. Well annoying.

19:28 Yeah except you didn't explain how to actually make it useable since there is no way to close the end without the vertices getting all fucked up.
