@William Michaels we didn't have a bigger population. Back then, humans hadn't gotten everywhere on Earth. Now we have conquered everything and have a population of 7.7 billion people. If we had a bigger population back then, viruses (not coronavirus) would kill them all due to being way too crowded. Besides, being crowded isn't comforting!

Well, not to be harsh, but there's data backing up Graehame, but those are annoying things aren't they? People want to be so blind to cultural and social differences, that they turn a blind eye to it.
Seeing as humans can barely get along with each other due to skin, cultural, location differences, I can't see us getting along too well with a group of "people" that looked and acted entirely different than ourselves.
Neanderthals probably didn't act much different than homo-sapiens-spaiens. If they retained their own unique genetic makeup though, I'd guess they'd excel in most sports (except basketball) and dominate the S.T.E.M. fields.
You have to ask yourself, what makes a "species"? If neanderthal and humans can breed and produce viable offspring, which we know now is the case, then were they really two distinct species? Well, we consider syberian tigers and bengal tigers to be unique species, just as we consider North American wolves and European Gray wolves to be unique species, but the fact is that they can interbreed just fine and produce hybrid offspring. The most modern recreations of Neanderthals makes them not that much different in appearance to Caucasians, and in fact if they were still around today we would likely just consider them a different race. After all, no one would confuse an unmixed Australian aborigini woman to be a Swedish woman, as they look extremely different... in fact far more different than North American and European wolves look to one another. So if we treated humans the way we do all other animals in classification, its very likely that we would consider each major human race to be its own species, or at the very least sub-species. After all, just in Africa alone we have identified 13 subspecies of giraffe, and yet we don't admit that there are any subspecies of humans in spite of obvious difference in bone structure, skin tone, hair, eye color, musculature, average height, etc.
musicf3b But my god, imagine the discrimination and ugly history. On a more positive note, that would have been very interesting if there was more than one species of human alive today.

Michael Smith Sorry, but the different modern human races do not meet the criteria to be considered separate species, or even subspecies. Not even close. In fact, humans are far more closely related to one another than most other examples of separate populations of a single species. Genetic evidence suggests that this is because of what is called a genetic bottleneck early on in homo sapiens history, where some natural disaster, climate change, or other event led to a large part of the population dying off, leaving only a small population of around 10000 individuals alive. The point is, humans from across the globe are all so genetically similar that there's no way they could be considered separate subspecies.
Athaleyah Baht-Yisrael I'm pretty sure your definition of 'scientific fact' is slightly... well, it's completely wrong. There is zero real evidence to support the existence of nephilim, giants, or the deluge as depicted in the abrahamic religions. And while the ancestors of 'white people' DID, in fact, interbreed with Neanderthals, this interbreeding occurred mainly in the middle east, when modern humans first migrated out of Africa. This is why genetic studies show that not only Europeans, but also individuals from the middle east, central Asia, and even east Asia, have genetic markers passed down from Neanderthal ancestors.
I had a keen interest in Anthropology in college and minored in it back in the 90's. I had asked my professor in class about the possibility of interbreeding causing the Neanderthals extinction. He laughed and said that "none of the traits appear to have carried over to Homo sapiens." This is of course before we cracked the human genome. I wonder if he even remembers that moment?

Given the history of imperialism and colonialism in this timeline, I think yours is (sadly) the most logical scenario. The one aspect that you neglected to mention is that hybrid creatures that have parents of two different species (like mules) are often sterile. But the conclusion would be the same - bred out of existence. That said, you should read Robert Sawyer's "Neanderthal Parallax" triliogy (if you haven't already). Jean Auel also had some interesting ideas that she presented in her novel series.
Actually, Neanderthals were pretty smart! Scientists just thought they were stupid because they happened to find one with a differently shaped head, and it looked crooked and dumb. Later, they found another Neanderthal, that had good bone structure, and wasn't crooked like the first one they found. Neanderthal is a name to offend people by basically saying they're dumb, but that's only a thing because the scientists got some things mixed up. They simply made a mistake. I'm not trying to offend anyone or something like that, I'm just pointing this out.
I think that has a lot to do with the education in Africa. For example, I never learned what months, years, days, weeks were or how to spell at all. That can have an incredible effect on intelligence.

All people of non-African descent are related to the neanderthals by between 2 and 6%. Also, southeast Asians and Native Americans are also related to the Denisovans by about 2%. Both groups most likely interbred as traits associated with them are found in modern Humans in certain areas where those ancient people would have found each other.
There is a third species related to Humans and Neaderthals. Humans did FUCK the Neaderthals into nonexistence just like what the Spanish did with the Indians!
Hispanics would have a combination of Neanderthal traits, from the Spanish, and Denisovan traits from the native Americans who migrated from eastern Asia into the new world.
Minor correction... Everyone in Eurasia has small amounts of Denisovan DNA, Europeans have the lowest estimated Denisovan influence just at about 0.2% - 0.1%... East Asians and Native Americans have a bit more than Europeans, then South Asians and Southeast Asians have a bit more than East Asians but Papuans and Australian Aboriginals have the most Denisovan inlfluence at about 5% - 6%.
Well, sort of... According to a book by Leonard Mlodinow, the proper Homo Sapiens died out, so we refer to modern humans as the subspecies and the others as the species. It's sorta like calling an elephant a mammoth but in scientific names
Hippos_Rock that's right, glad to see people who get that; I been getting weird looks for years when I say "homo sapiens sapiens" and people kept asking me why I repeated the word sapiens lol. There were other forms of Homo sapien, indeed Neanderthals are often referred to as Homo sapiens neanderthalensis and I also hear mention in some sources of Homo sapiens idaltu and Homo sapiens rhodesiensis, although other sources do refer to them as not part of the Sapiens.
TheDeadFolk If I remember correctly there is a saga talking about that, The reason they explain in the saga is that the natives just were not having any of it, they would constantly raid the one village they had set up. The Viking were constantly moving more in land down the saint lawrence, with evidence sudgesting they made it quite far with nuts they were eating and bringing back which grew nearly exclusively along the river. However they were never able to communicate or set up trade with the natives so it just became too hard and very unsafe so yes it wasnt worth it, not becasue there wasn't resources just they couldnt use them safely or productively. The saga does state they tried again but it ended the same except the natives this time didnt even let them get past their main ship port. But this is a saga and they should always be taken with a grain of salt TL;DR Natives wouldnt let them set up shop for very long, and refused to communicate or trade with them so they decided to just leave

Neteadrathals are actually stronger physically. Estimated similar intellect they would live like humans. More meat needed higher caloric intake. They would basically be a violent warrior Hunter gatherer society contending with modern man. It is believed they had less capacity for imagination thus more likely would absorb innovations of nearby tribes. The lack of population comparably from innovations such as agriculture would lead to a smaller population size pushing them further north. They would basically survive like the Sami. The lack of megafauna would lead to more raids on homo sapien settlements. They would most likely get shorter and be living in a state of near constant starvation. It's kind of like asking what if direwolves survived the death of megafauna.
Skeletons don't tell anyone how much muscle a person had, or how smart someone was. Evolutionists always pretend to be the ultimate FBI agent... their speculations are facts in their own minds.

Eric Claeyborn There are clearly defined areas where muscle and ligament attach to bones. We can also do xray scans of brain cavities to see the shape and size of brains. We can also estimate intelligence and the strength of senses based on the size and shape of parts of the brain, since just about everything has the same basic layout. ie the brain stem is always in the back and under the brain connected to the spinal column, the frontal lobe is always in the front and towards the top of the brain, etc.

I wonder what would happen if someone discovered some surprisingly well-preserved neanderthal tissue, and in it some surprisingly well-preserved neanderthal cells and dna, and went and impregnated themselves with some neanderthal clone babies until one finally came out without either dying immediately or already being dead. If they raised it as their own would people accept it? Would it be able to learn a modern human language and fit into society? Would it have, as a technically separate species, the same rights as humans?
Anthropologists did find enough preserved soft tissue from the toe of a Neanderthal that the genome was sequenced and compared to modern humans. that's why it is known that Neanderthals and Home-sapiens-sapiens interbred and a certain percentage of eastern Europeans and Mongolians can have more than 2% Neanderthal DNA.

Then in a real low voice as he's leaving I'd be like "Yeah, you'd better run."
And the Neanderthal would very likely have said that in a higher-pitched voice (and perhaps a hint of Kermit), despite his/her on avarage heavier build, due to the Neanderthal larynx being higher up than that of Sapiens.
I wouldn't mind living next door to Neanderthals or other prehistoric ancestors. Our prehistoric ancestors always interest me and I always enjoy hearing about our prehistoric ancestors.
The Conquistador, I agree. About 70% of all people of European and Middle Eastern descent have some Neanderthal genes in them. The Neanderthals died out partially due to intermarriages with "modern humans."
I kinda wish you went deeper into the ethnic composition of these. The majority of European peoples today, notable exceptions are the Basques, Chechens, Hungarians, and Finns, are descended from the Indo-Europeans, a group that had originated from the Pontic-Caspian Steppe. If in the end, the Neanderthals are replaced by Persians or Egyptians, keep in mind, the Indo-Europeans still exist. Very likely, these Indo-Europeans would still spread out and settle Europe, which in our timeline, was around 2000 BCE. The only people who would have a chance of being gone would be the Basques, as they came to Europe before the Indo-Europeans.
@Provocateur I dont entirely think all homo sapiens from Africa were what we would consider sub Saharan today. If that was the case then only a few genetic Europeans today would have pale skin. Remember, this stuff is from thousands of years ago. We really dont know what they looked like.
@calaragazza WRONG. middle eastern populations describe some of the highest concentrations of neanderthal genes, which flows into northern african, central asian, and Indian genetics, as well as europeans.
Trenton Cheuvront There's no proof that they were any less intelligent, if anything there's proof they were as advanced as the cro-magnon in terms of technology like bows and art etc. not to mention their larger brain.
Imagine the Dwarves and their civilization as they are portrayed in Tolkien's books and you'd probably have a pretty realistic answer to this question.
Yeah. If, like the video says, civilization begins on the very edge of Neanderthal "territory" it is entirely plausible that they, as much as humans, laid the foundations of some of the earliest great civilizations which would have been an effective barrier against conquest by homo-sapiens, and unknowingly protected the more peripheral Neanderthal societies.
they probably thought the risk was too great and decided sticking to the fun and wild life of being a nomad. that and their idea exchange flow was very limited. I can see it now, Neanderlonia.
I've always wondered, are there other planets out there that have multiple intelligent species living alongside each other, like in Lord of the Rings style? If so, is multi-species society more common, or are are we in the majority?

Would Scandinavian people have more Neanderthal DNA in their DNA code? Because Neanderthals were pushed north in to that region and thus would have died out last there.
Nah. If you were them would go decide to run towards the cold place where the sun is hidden half the year or go to the warm place? Pretty obvious which one I'd choose.
PVEntertainment meh. We like to complain a lot. We probably went to the cold areas first just so we could moan about it before moving to the warm areas so we could get sunburnt... And then complain about that.
I'm glad you raised this point, because the video assumed that homo sapiens would change the way they did in the real timeline, but Neanderthals would stay exactly the same. Why assume that? Being on the same contingent, ideas would have been exchanged. An interesting alternate history would explore what their real biological differences would have influenced. From what I remember, Neanderthals had larger eyes and visual cortexes but were less verbal. They made art but might not have talked. How would such a culture have springboarded off of homo sapiens?
Wavium While you're correct under most circumstances, in this case you're wrong. Brain size correlates with intelligence in human and hominid species, and the skull cavities of Neanderthal suggest a greater intelligence... though it is only conjecture. As Rs Rt said above, the temporal and parietal lobes were particularly massive, and the ratio between this area and the rest of the brain is almost always used to measure hypothetical intelligence in many extinct species, not just hominids.
i think they preferred the less labor some and wild life of being nomads for a reason that and they tended to be even more isolated from each other group than our subspecies had it, so a lot less technological ideas and innovations spread around. i think homo sapiens sapiens won out not because of higher IQ but more due to circumstance.
What if humans aren't the only society on earth and aren't the only superintelligent animals, what if there's other non human societies and non human superintelligent animals to coexist alongside humans? Sorry, but the different modern human races do not meet the criteria to be considered separate species, or even subspecies.
Athaleyah Baht-Yisrael
I'm pretty sure your definition of 'scientific fact' is slightly... well, it's completely wrong.

The only reason you think your healthcare is superior is because you're comparing it to the US. If you compare it with most of europe, it's not really a big difference. You're not advanced, the US is just behind

"Homo"
"Don't even."
that was just so funny for me 😂
I’ll go out on a limb and say that if “Neanderthals didn’t go extinct” they’d still be alive today.
I'm offended that you think I'd be offended by this.
Black racists also use it to insult whites, which is pretty funny.
I think that has a lot to do with the education in Africa. For example, I never learned what months, years, days, weeks were or how to spell at all. That can have an incredible effect on intelligence.
Depression If à black person is from sub-Saharan Africa and are 100% sub-Saharan african they do not contain Neanderthal genes
Depression And I’m confused, could you explain the relevancy of « iq » to me? The smartest people I’ve ever met, the people who were top of my classes (set 1’s I’m British) were always POC. When I was in young I lived in a predominantly white area but the kids in the top sets were always coloured.
These renderings of neanderthals look like people I've seen walking around.

Native American still exist. In fact there are more pure natives in S. America since Spain enslaved them instead of wiped them out.
Hispanics would have a combination of Neanderthal traits, from the Spanish, and Denisovan traits from the native Americans who migrated from eastern Asia into the new world.
That might be the reason for caucasions. But what would middle easterns be?
Minor correction... Everyone in Eurasia has small amounts of Denisovan DNA, Europeans have the lowest estimated Denisovan influence just at about 0.2% - 0.1%... East Asians and Native Americans have a bit more than Europeans, then South Asians and Southeast Asians have a bit more than East Asians but Papuans and Australian Aboriginals have the most Denisovan inlfluence at about 5% - 6%.
Then I would finally be able to relate to someone.

Hippos_Rock If we are a subspecies we're are still Homo Sapiens

Hippos_Rock that's right, glad to see people who get that; I been getting weird looks for years when I say "homo sapiens sapiens" and people kept asking me why I repeated the word sapiens lol. There were other forms of Homo sapien, indeed Neanderthals are often referred to as Homo sapiens neanderthalensis and I also hear mention in some sources of Homo sapiens idaltu and Homo sapiens rhodesiensis, although other sources do refer to them as not part of the Sapiens.
What if the vikings never left America?
DerDiktatorischeWeltherrscherYagami the Canadians would be a bit more invasive
DerDiktatorischeWeltherrscherYagami You mean what if the Vikings were never wiped out by the Asians after crossing the bering strait
Vikings had settlements on the East-Coast, but there wasn't much, so they left on their own.
But this is a saga and they should always be taken with a grain of salt
TL;DR
Natives wouldnt let them set up shop for very long, and refused to communicate or trade with them so they decided to just leave

Joseph Russo maybe like glaswegians .
How can you say they the Neanderthals living in Europe had less imagination than Homo sapiens migrating north from Africa Did not
the Neanderthal 's actually have somewhat larger brains than Homo Sapiens there intellegence musthave beenpretty much the same how do we no they were more violent arhhaic as well as modern Homo Sapiens as we all know were and still are a pretty violent bunch
Joseph Russo I beg to differ. I believe they might of been very docile and gentle. There is some research that indicates it.

If the government didnt keep it a secret, he or she would become a celebrity and would probably have like 10 kids lol.
If a Neanderthal wearing modern clothes walked past you in the street you wouldn't look at him twice.
Unless he looked at me first and gave be the awkward eye.
Then I'd be like "'sup, you gotta problem?".
Then he'd be like "I ain't got da problem. Youse da guy wearing homo-sapiens-sapiens colors in the wrong part'a town, whatcho doing here bitch."
Then I'd be like "On my way to f*** your boyfriend, punk."
Then he'd be like "See, whatcho gone do that for? Now I gonna hafta kick your silly ass."
Then I'd be like "Bring it, bitch."
Then his smartphone would ring and he'd be like "Shit! Youse's lucky dis time motherf*****. I gotsta give a TEDx on quantum entanglement in ten. I'd best never catch you 'round these part again or it's on. Catch me?"
Neanderthals were humans... Not just homo sapiens immigrants. Neanderthals are now modern Europeans.
Humans ? They are both human
The Conquistador In the same vein that wolves and dogs are both canines
Gavin Armstrong that doesn’t make any sense, moving on.
The Conquistador, I agree. About 70% of all people of European and Middle Eastern descent have some Neanderthal genes in them. The Neanderthals died out partially due to intermarriages with "modern humans."
The Conquistador it does though. Dogs and wolves are both in the canine family and Neanderthals and humans are in the great ape family
Gavin Armstrong, and they are both human. Dogs, wolves, and coyotes are all dogs, but different subspecies and species.

@Ernest Hemingway true. but even subsaharan african populations display a 2-7% admixture rate of an as yet to be described separate hominid species.
@calaragazza WRONG. middle eastern populations describe some of the highest concentrations of neanderthal genes, which flows into northern african, central asian, and Indian genetics, as well as europeans.

This video answers absolutely zero questions, yet it is somehow beautiful, I can't tell exactly why.
Who's to say Neanderthals couldn't make a civilization to rival the empires in the middle east?

Actually the most recent Neanderthal site ever found was in Portugal.
RRW Okay then. That was unexpected.
Nah. If you were them would go decide to run towards the cold place where the sun is hidden half the year or go to the warm place? Pretty obvious which one I'd choose.
Gowan James Ditchburn Well I'd think that Homo Sapiens would have flooded warmer areas.
PVEntertainment meh. We like to complain a lot. We probably went to the cold areas first just so we could moan about it before moving to the warm areas so we could get sunburnt... And then complain about that.
Who's to say the neanderthals would not have developed agriculture and civilization? They were (probably) highly intelligent and industrious.
Yup they had bigger brains than modern humans.
Specifically, the temporal-parietal area (the problem solving area) of their brains were huge.
As Rs Rt said above, the temporal and parietal lobes were particularly massive, and the ratio between this area and the rest of the brain is almost always used to measure hypothetical intelligence in many extinct species, not just hominids.
i think they preferred the less labor some and wild life of being nomads for a reason
that and they tended to be even more isolated from each other group than our subspecies had it, so a lot less technological ideas and innovations spread around. i think homo sapiens sapiens won out not because of higher IQ but more due to circumstance.
Take a look a Russian heavy weight boxing champion Nikolai Valuev , 7 feet tall , and surely Neanderthal bred ??????

Okay, this "neandertals" pronunciation is NOT good for me. I'm sure some really smart person told other smart people that neanderthals is 'actually' pronounced neandertals because of some conglomeration verb/consonant population in the word; so there! And everyone else just nodded, said 'that makes sense' and proper English pronunciation went out the window. Well, I'm not buying it. That "h" is there for a reason, damn it, and it's not to be ignored. Cue "h" bunny boiling behavior.
Please do some research before posting rubbish. Neanderthal means "the Neander valley" in German (that's where some were found). In German, Thal, meaning valley, is pronounced "Tal". Your bleating about "proper English pronunciation" makes no sense in the context of how to pronounce a German word. I'm going to cut you some slack because I'm guessing you are American, and we all know they struggle with anything that comes from "out of state" (that was the best guess a waitress had when confronted with my rather English accent, back in the 1980s in Provo, Utah).

I was wondering exactly this and I found the perfect video 👌
Homo sapiens: wassup neanderthal!
Neanderthal: don’t say the N word! It’s OUR word we claimed it OK?
A few points the ancient Egyptians were Caucasoid ,the Persians were Caucasoid so on and so forth
Nope. African/Black.
Imperātor Caesar Dīvī Fīlius Augustus You can't be serious...their own portraits and statues depict a coloured people...they were black. ALL DIFFERENT SHADES...but black, nonetheless..
Hawk Bat Not really ...genetically..modern Egyptians are a mixture of European DNA and a "touch" of the original people. Actually, this is not as uncommon as you might think. Many cultures and people have been "whited-out". Look at Cuba and COUNTLESS other peoples a cross the world...sadly, it is an actual strategy to white-wash history.
The original Egyptians were Mongoloids like Asians and Native Americans. That's why Egyptian culture has many similarities with ancient China and the Mesoamerican cultures of America. The original Aryans were also Mongoloid. The R Haplogroup which is the genetic marker associated with Aryan people is directly related to Mongoloid markers like Haplogroup Q, N, and O.
+Rayve Napsu Wrong, Egypt was African/Negroid/Black until the 17 century when Arabs started to invade. They make distinct comparisons of their Black skin compared to Arab skin in their hieroglyphs.
I liked the Spyro reference
Hey, maybe I'm remembering wrong. Didn't Ozzy do a series of tests to find out out "what makes him special that he hasn't died yet" and they determined that he had Neanderthal DNA
Nobody:
This guy: B R E D O U T O F
E X I S T A N C E
“The Neanderthal and the humans don’t mate”
Sam o nella: “and I took that personally”
they are not fully extinct we have percentage of their DNA about 1-4%
@Jammy joe I once saw a black supremacist claiming that black are homosapian and white are trenyanertal ( I know I wrote it wrong) that made me so angry so no not everyone knows
I just read: "What if NETHERLANDS go extinct" idk why but im still laughing.
We (the Dutch) are still alive ;)
