I love that the movie “Smile” took the concept of a creepy smile and actually made a good movie out of it. The filmmakers’ instincts here weren’t wrong- weird and uncanny smile is scary in the right circumstances.

I agree, and the fact it gave it an R-rated tone to fit in well with the brutal psychological horror setting unlike Truth or Dare. Hell, I think Smile did an amazing job to give us the audience the view of the protag’s paranoid mind when facing the smiling entity, even have it surprise us at unexpected moments. It gets to the point that we don’t feel “safe” once we’re looking the protag’s eyes.
My sister hated Smile.
The stretchy smile face is basically everyone doing their impression of willem Defoe from Spider-Man.

What’s so dumb was if the guy picked truth and the blonde girl picked truth, the demon would’ve been forced to pick dare and they could’ve dared the demon to go away or something.

I actually like the ending, because it contradicts Olivia’s personality perfectly. Olivia was someone who devoted her time to caring for others and being an overall good samaritan, as seen by how much she volunteers for non-profit organizations and confidently say she’d rather save the population of Mexico over her friends. So the fact she put the whole world in danger at the end shows how much the game, where she had to hurt people and be hurt, had taken a toll on her. The ending is superbly dark, and I love it.
Could she have done for a friend worth dooming the world?

Markie was one of the worst characters I'd ever seen in a movie. She literally spent the entire thing complaining and was just a terrible friend in general. She forced her best friend to go on a vacation with her instead of letting her do something she legitimately wanted to do. She got mad at Olivia for getting a dare (that she didn't even pick) to sleep with her boyfriend. Why should she even care? It was revealed earlier that she was a constant cheater, so the fact that she was mad at Olivia made her a hypocritical idiot. I just wanted to slap her every time she was on screen. I was annoyed that she was one of the few people that lived. Even with the dead father plot line, she was too terrible of a character for any sympathy.

Pretty interesting arc Brad went through even if it ended tragically. I actually was very worried about his father disowning him, something all of us in the community fear deeply as it has happened before. But the dad came to terms with it making it all the more sad that he had to scare him and force the other officer to kill him. It's actually a pretty clever and heavy tie in to this movie's concept.
Tbh that one was my least favorite part of the movie, the way they treat his parts in the movie just feels like there was no actual plot in it. What should have been a tense truth or dare for his charactor coming out was just pushed offscreen, and the way he dies feels like they just needed a reason to get him off the movie for the love triangle

Okay, I actually got to say the pool table fall was the coolest kill. It might not have been as gory or sensational like others but it just hits closer to reality and I think everyone felt this impact on the other pool table edge. Every other kill was "Meh" or "Okay cool" or "hehehehe" but this one was just "uuuuuuuuuh fuuuuuuuck ouchie!"
Imagine being dared to bravely walk on a roof drinking Vodka and win only to get shot minutes later

The characters and story were so strong that the hokey cult movie climax felt a little dopey and took me completely out of the whole thing.
Another good example of a horror film where characters clearly felt greif instead of just acting like nothing happened is The Witch.

It was weird to see Olivia's true humanity come out after saying she would save the many over the few, when it came down to it she couldn't do it.

I still don’t get how Penelope couldn’t just walk back and forth hanging onto the thing the whole time until she finished the vodka, since she was never told she had to make it the whole way around the roof, just walk on it. The title wasn't a giant red flag to you? Though, to cut you some slack, I suppose there are movies with dumb names that are actually pretty decent.
The ending is stupid too. Since the demon can be asked truth or dare, as evidenced by then ending, and the game is 2 truths and a dare, simply have 2 people choose truth and the thrid refuse to even play. The demon posses them, and then you dare the demon, since it goes to the demon. Then simply dare it to go back to hell.

I was thinking that but I don't think it would work. the order is Demon, Olivia, Maggie. The next possible combos are
1. Olivia (truth), maggie (forced dare cuz the demon picked truth already), demon (truth cuz unless forced, will always pick truth to avoid being dared to stop.)
2. Olivia (dare), Maggie (truth or dare, doesn't matter), demon (truth), Olivia( if maggie picked truth, she would be forced to dare, and if dare was picked she can pick truth and force maggie to do a dare.)
I thought about them doing this but there isn't a way for them to win unless they can trick the demon to technically lie, or reveal the truth that will help them to survive this game. Other than that, they can just kill themselves and end the game there since if they're both dead, the game will probably end.

She did fail the dare. Her dare was to specifically kill Olivia, not Penelope. Since Penelope got in the way to protect Olivia, that resulted in Olivia being alive which was the opposite of what Giselle’s dare was so therefore she failed and unfortunately paid the price.

@@adamhogan5442 If the demon dares you to kill a specific person and no one else, that literally means that you can’t kill anyone else but that specific person. Therefore, you don’t need it to tell you to not kill anyone else because they were being specific. Even if she could aim the gun at Olivia again to reattempt she was pinned down by the guys and there was no real way for her to break free so the demon possessed her and made her kill herself.

A question always bugged me about the ending. They could've simply written it to where, the demon chose dare, and they dare it to destroy itself. Or it chooses truth, and they force it to confess how to truly stop it. Like, seriously. They legit start a demonic apocalypse with that dumb fucming ending.

I mean it could say "finish the game" but it has to be done in a specific way that it didn't say. It technically told the truth, you had to finish the game.

What I would have done was to let Markie die since she failed the dare. bring the demon in the game, it will go truth (like it did in the movie), you go truth, then the demon is forced to have a dare. Dare the Demon to end the game and never come back no matter what situation. If it doesn't, the Demon loses and you win. If it agrees, you will win cause the game has ended.
