Like you can tell he drinks because he's actually a good guy who's just been so fucked up by his family's cult rituals since he was a kid, and didn't want that cycle to continue with his younger brother and his nephews now that he's old enough to know better and do something about it. Also, I just dig Adam Brody as an actor. He was so despicable and horrible in Jennifer's Body that I appreciate his range.
@@efteron5342 well the video said alex wasn't completely aware who killed his brother then he saw his wife beating his mom with the box. Maybe he just put 2 and 2 together and blindy accused grace for killing his brother too that's why he turned.

One one ever mentions it, but thanks to all the bodies in the sable pit there is pretty solid evidence to show that the family was insane and any deaths that could be pinned on Grace can be excused as self defense. (Child of a lawyer; As the only survivor of the family you know she's going to be investigated.)
yeah but keep in mind that none of the actual family survived. the only bodies left would be the ones in the stable from the maids, etc. and grace could simply say that the Le Domas' fled after burning the house down and that she's covered in blood from witnessing the murders. The stolen car conversation would actually be great evidence for this because it shows she wanted to leave. there's also the fact that if she has the demon guy's blessing the cops may just turn the other way.
There’s also the call she had with the car company where she said she was in danger. And they authorities can get the footage from act two and three from the company the cameras came from. So yeah, Grace has tons of evidence on her side

@12:02 Daniel actually helped her not just by giving her a head start but he called out to his whole family and each of them got there. Meaning Daniel cleared the house for her (even if only temporarily) so grace should be grateful imo.
Korean Cowboy42 No. He was conflicted about what he had to do for his family and having to kill people. He feels responsible for the first death and didn't want to be involved in the second one.
one of my favorite moments of the movie is when Alex asks Grace if she’s ready and she answers “oh, fuck no.” right before the title card comes up. I absolutely adore that the movie intentionally emphasizes that the events of the movie are going to happen, quite literally regardless of whether Grace is ready or not.
There was another where she has to force herself through a broken gate and one of the prongs forms a gash in her back at she gets through the gap in the gate.
I don't know about the plot armor bit, tbh. She didn't get away unscathed at all. Got torn to shreds both mentally and physically, had believable fights and rightfully lost most of them. The only instance of "plot armor" I can really think of would be her not getting shot by sissy and even that is set up way in advance with that chick getting coked to high hell.
IMO the curse didn’t trigger because, to Le Bail, it was a draw. It was only after Helene still tried to kill Grace that she broke the rules and doomed the Le Domases to death by explosion.
I think I heard somewhere that the reason why they didn't died as soon as the sun rise was because it was a tie, but the family died because the old tried to kill Grace
@@Nameless82284 I’ve heard that theory too, and honestly it makes a lot of sense. The family caught Grace, but Grace survived to dawn, so no one really won the game. Hell, we even see Le Bel tipping his hat to her when the entire estate burns to the ground, acknowledging her victory and letting her know she’s free to go. Even the Devil respected her resolve
Lets be honest, when theres 40+ games in that demon box, you wouldnt expect her to get the cursed card that dooms her life. Like, thats a 1/Nth number of games.
He tried to give her a chance to go before all of it but she chose to start the game and once it started she had to follow through because otherwise the entire family would be doomed as seen in the end because they lost.
The Devil : 'Every time one of you marries, you'll have to play a game that may or may not be deadly to everyone.' The family members : 'Fine. We won't marry. We'll just find lovers and live happily ever after, without all that marriage stuff.' The Devil : 'Wait. That's illegal.'
Yeah but how hard would it be for them to just not get married and just date for their whole lives, i mean they could WEAR wedding rings without being officially married and it would all be fine
she wanted to get married and knew nothing about his family. if he told her about his family she might have actually decided to not get married but alex is/was a dumbass.
The movie (or behind the scenes stuff?) says that Grace yearned to get married because she grew up in the foster system and wanted to be part of his family. And if I recall, he was all for just being boyfriend/girlfriend forever, but he knew she'd leave if he didn't marry her (again, she dreamed of having a family more than anything). So not wanting to lose her combined with him wanting to make her happy and thinking the curse is probably bullshit, he tied the knot and that's how we end up with the movie.

Here's a theory the family would have survived if dawn had been reached and Grace was still alive, so long as they tried to capture and sacrifice her. LeBail only started to kill them after Aunt Helene cheated at the game, and only killed Alex after Grace rejected him (which kept him within the Dumas family), not to mention the fact that LeBail was obviously pleased with Grace, despite the fact he lost a sacrifice.
i’ve heard a lot of people say that the reason they exploded was because the aunt didn’t accept that she won and was still going to kill her. they wanted to cheat and kill her even after she had beat them, i’m not sure if this is accurate but it seems sorta logical
That what I sort of think cause I find it hard to believe the curse waits for a minute then suddenly decided to blow up the moment Grace is threatened. Not to mention Alex then survived for another minute and only died when Grace took of her wedding ring and said she wanted a divorce. I think they blew up for not accepting they lost, not for losing itself. But good movies are often able to create endings with multiple interpretations.
@@rosalynpurrfect2439 yes i agree with this. like the pause was way too long before they exploded, like why didnt it happen before. and it seems like they could have made it if they accepted defeat.
i hate to break the news to you, but she was actually wearing heels during the wedding and then alex makes her change shoes once the game starts to get too real 😔 james just didn’t show it in the video
She made a deal after because now she has no home. So instead she made a cult where they took the blood of innocent children. If failed le domas doesn’t kill her he gives them another chance.
Might be one of my favorite final girls ever cause she never hesitated and did everything she could to survive. It's not like other movies where I got so frustrated from them making stupid ass choices
The only stupid bit was watching the brother die, he was obviously chocking on his own blood, I wanted to at least turn him to his side or do something to TRY and help.
Part of what makes us root for her is how much we can relate to everything she's feeling. Tonight was supposed to be dedicated to Grace & Alex boinking each other into oblivion. Instead she has her dress torn to utter shreds, gets shot, stabbed, cut, tranquilized, assaulted, knocked out, covered in decaying bodies, and tied to a table as her in-laws attempt to sacrifice her to Satan. Grace is 30% confused, 30% horrified, and 40% ABSOLUTELY PISSED. And honestly, that anger & frustration feels so much more real than typical final girls who just find strength & bravery to fend off a literal monster.
what if there was an illegitimate child out there somewhere just living their life? waking up in the morning and getting ready for the day and then exploding out of nowhere
My guess would be because they were illegitimate, the parents never married so therefore the terms of the ritual were never met, so they're not recognized as true family. Plus they weren't getting any of the benefits in terms of family wealth/connection.
That's not going to happen, the reason why the family didn't die when the sun came up was because it was a tie, the reason why they died was because they broke the rules
@@saraaaah215 it was a tie because they found grace but didn’t complete the ritual in time. The game had two parts they won the first part and she won the second part. Therefore they were supposed to end the game and she was to be a Le domas, but since aunt Helene still tried to kill grace after dawn she triggered the curse to take its effect
Noticed something cool about the names of the characters who married into the family, Grace, Charity, and Fitch. Grace can be synonymous to elegant, which fits her status as a bride. Charity is implied to have had a difficult life before marrying into the family, therefore, she may have been considered a 'charity case'. Charity and Grace are also somewhat similar, often having religious connotations. Fitch seems like the odd one out name wise, so I looked it up. Turns out the word fitch is an antiquated term for a polecat, a ferret like animal native to Europe. In turn, the word ferret can be used as a verb, meaning to search for something.
@@finleytucker4731 Le Bail's an anagram of Belial. The thing I wonder about is if the first initials were intentional: Alex Becky Charity Daniel Emilie Fitch Grace Helene
@@gabrieltraylor8888 It is most likely that at the early stage of the script that the characters does not have a name like "person D gives a headstart to person G". but then again I'm not a scriptwriter so who knows
I had NO IDEA that Aunt Helene was in The Cube! The makeup job in Ready or Not is impeccable. Also, I have a theory. I think Le Bail chooses people he believes will challenge the family to play Hide and Seek. If you're given any other game, or essentially allowed to enter the family, it's because the Le Bail don't give a fuck about you, and doesn't care if you end up dying with the family one day. But if he gives you Hide and Seek, it's like "here's a chance to bring these assholes down or go down trying"
That makes a lot of sense, especially if you consider Le Bail's head movements at the very end of the movie when he appears since it looks like he's nodding, implying something like, "Good job Grace."
Throughout this movie, Samara cemented herself as a modern scream queen for me. She made some wicked sounds in this thing. Just fucking awesome performance throughout, really.

The possibility of her drawing the card is high since alexs siblings are all married and they didnt draw the bad card. Thus the alexs generation needs a sacrifice. His dads bride didnt die, but his aunts groom died. So it means a generation WOULD have a bad card.
@@FredrikSkievan I saw it mentioned in another comment section that it's possible it's not truly upto chance if you'll draw the Hide and Seek/Death card. It's drawn whenever a sacrifice is desired so like the chances aren't the typical ones for drawing a card it's when the devil feels you should pay your dues
@@ross8093 That's true. Essentially, the deal with the Devil is that the Devil will decide when they have to dance to his tune for a sacrifice. If you look at Judeo-Christianity and European folklore, this is a common theme. Even when people think they can outsmart him, he finds a way to screw them over along the lines of the deal they made using things the human party didn't think of. So, no, the card isn't random at all. I agree that it's drawn whenever the Devil wants entertainment by demanding a sacrifice from the family.
My theory is you only draw the bad card when the two people to be married truly love each other. Le Bail's not gonna put up with that (maybe because it could lead to redemption). That is why Helene had to sacrifice her one true love(?) and why the rest of the family has mediocre marriages. In doing so Le Bail makes a mockery of marriage and love.

I like how at the end when the Le Bail (The devil himself? A high ranking demon?) nods at her after everyone is dead, like he's congratulating her on a game well played. It takes a real bad ass bitch to get approval from Satan.
@@tsuyuasui7297 Nah, he's a demon who tempted the founder with the box, a thing demons usually do in cinematic, and other entertainment, mythology (the fiddle playing game, Pinhead's lament configuration, gambling in cuphead, the list goes on). It's why mobile games employ loot boxes, to exploit people who are prone to addictions (I myself included, I've finally deleted all games of that caliber.)
Le Bail rearranged is Belial. That's another name for the Devil. Plus one of the family members yells about worshipping satan during the sacrifice scene. Technically, Grace won the game and thus won the deal she was forced into unknowingly. So she's allowed to leave.

So yeah, Grace has tons of evidence on her side

she wanted to get married and knew nothing about his family. if he told her about his family she might have actually decided to not get married but alex is/was a dumbass.
Grace is 30% confused, 30% horrified, and 40% ABSOLUTELY PISSED.

what if there was an illegitimate child out there somewhere just living their life? waking up in the morning and getting ready for the day and then exploding out of nowhere

That's how spontaneous movie was born

@@Nameless82284 how?

@@FredrikSkievan I saw it mentioned in another comment section that it's possible it's not truly upto chance if you'll draw the Hide and Seek/Death card. @@ross8093 That's true. Essentially, the deal with the Devil is that the Devil will decide when they have to dance to his tune for a sacrifice. If you look at Judeo-Christianity and European folklore, this is a common theme. That is why Helene had to sacrifice her one true love(?) and why the rest of the family has mediocre marriages. In doing so Le Bail makes a mockery of marriage and love.
Grace is literally the best final girl of 2019.
Mmkay
Agreed
Yes!!!
Just saw it. She really was the best final girl of 2019.
I agree
"Brown haired niece, you continue to exist"
Yea
My favorite line
This is my FAVORITE movie EVER.
Idc what ppl say, I just love it way too much; it's fun, thrilling, just the right amount of gory, and super interesting!
I'll die on the hill that it's one of the best movies in the whole genre.

This movie sus
I hadn't seen this movie yet, and I was actually starting to watch this video, but before the story summation started, this looked like a film that was very much in my wheelhouse. I don't quite know why, but hearing your recommendation told me I needed to watch this ASAP, so I closed the tab and immediately rented it for streaming. I just got done watching it, and Ready Or Not might be my favorite film I've seen this year. I even rewatched the break of dawn scene, and then came back to this video to watch that again. Thank you for having impeccable taste as always, James.
Glad you watched it and enjoyed it so much!
As soon as the video showed clips of it i got a You're Next vibe (in the best way) and the more he went on to explain the more hyped i am to watch the full movie. Im not someone who cares about spoilers so im still gonna rent the movie. Same was the case with You're Next. Hadnt even heard of it before i saw the kill count on it and its one of my favorite movies.
@@DeadMeat I love you
Yeah, there is no way I'm watching this movie and the Kill Count at the same time. I prefer watching James (Dead Meat) while he explaining the ways people get killed. It's better then actually watching the whole movie, and more funny if it's a horror movie too.
Yeah, James' got good taste - In movies, music and the ladies. Haha. Keep it up James, cool moves, proud of ya.
That feral scream is straight up a badass losing their last bit of sanity
I like how at the end when the Le Bail (The devil himself? A high ranking demon?) nods at her after everyone is dead, like he's congratulating her on a game well played.
It takes a real bad ass bitch to get approval from Satan.
that was the devil? i thought that was there ancestor
@@tsuyuasui7297
Nah, he's a demon who tempted the founder with the box, a thing demons usually do in cinematic, and other entertainment, mythology (the fiddle playing game, Pinhead's lament configuration, gambling in cuphead, the list goes on). It's usually to discourage "immoral" acts, especially gambling, since that can cause addictions. It's why mobile games employ loot boxes, to exploit people who are prone to addictions (I myself included, I've finally deleted all games of that caliber.)
He was a demon named Belial
Le Bail rearranged is Belial. That's another name for the Devil. Plus one of the family members yells about worshipping satan during the sacrifice scene. Technically, Grace won the game and thus won the deal she was forced into unknowingly. So she's allowed to leave.
speak of the devil, i have made ur like count 666
Poor alex he lost his older brother and got a divorce early...oh and he died
His family tired to kill her and that's what he get though heck! He even tried to kill his wife and help his family to do!😡😡😡 but still I feel sorry for him..
