Hey! Here's a funny thought, just something to mention: Isn't it kinda Sick that Bloody Horror like this counts as Comedy nowadays? The Perception of the People, of the Viewers, is changing - anyone but me noticed?
Not necessarily. He tried to warn Grace because pulling out that card, he might lose her. But not marrying her, he's afraid he would lose her either. And I love how much he loved Grace but in the end, his desire to keep her ultimately became selfishness that he'd rather sacrifice her if she wouldnt stay. I just applaud how they were able to somewhat tell that sometimes our human nature could bring the devil inside of us.
Can we just appreciate the fact that in the end, her white wedding dress is black? Like funeral or grieving clothes? She went from being happily married to “grieving” her new family in 6-7 hours
Alex was a selfish rich kid who despite desperately wanting to separate himself from his family he never had the strength to. And I totally agree with the fact that if he really thought he could save grace he would have NEVER taken her there in the first place. This movie just shows how strong and hard it is for some people to abandon family pressure and indoctrination.
Well, he would've died if he hadn't took her there, because according to the movie lore, it's a must for new family members to play the game, otherwise they'd both die.
Despite being born rich, Alex was dealt a bad hand in life. With his family and their satanic cult, his options were pretty limited. Dying Alone: 50/50 Ending Up Like His Family: 99/100 Marrying: 85/100 (he is rich) Marrying Someone After Telling Them About the Satanic Cult: 1/100 Marrying Someone _Decent_ After Telling Them About the Satanic Cult: 1/1000000 Marrying Someone Decent If He _Doesn't_ Tell Them About the Satanic Cult: 85/100 His Bride Draws the Hide & Seek Card: 1/5+
I think he was caught in an impossible situation. He wants to get away from his family, but he can't. If he told everyone he tried to date that he was part of a satanic cult, the smart ones would leave and the ones who would agree to it would be exactly the kind of people in his family he wanted to escape from. Once he & Grace were married, he had at least a 3/4 chance that she'd get a normal game, and then he'd have at least 10+ years (however long until one of those kids can marry) to tell her about the bullet she dodged while they get far away from his family. Alternatively, they could just date forever.
@@resnardlapiz3250 He could have dated her forever and she would have never needed to be part of the family in the first place. What's not clicking... He just couldn't distance himself from the family because he's a coward, he wants the best of both worlds and that's why he returned. If he wasn't so selfish he wouldn't have needed to play the game to begin with.
I think that Grace only escaping because she got lucky a bunch of times was actually really realistic and well written. It crushed the trope of “female protag suddenly becomes hardcore fighting machine when in a dire situation”. Grace was a completely normal person with no survival abilities outside of natural instincts, thus she makes a lot of dumb decisions & mainly gets lucky to survive. Not only did it make her character more relatable but felt really fresh for a thriller.
Yes true. I really thought the film would make her some kind kung fu ninja mma fighter who would hunt the family instead. But this way it felt more relatable to a situation how a normal person would behave. Making dumb decisions and somehow getting lucky.
To her credit, she legit tries to escape every time. Most victims in other horror movies just sticks around despite having the chance to escape for no reason.
@@isaacgray2909 most horror movie characters are either obnoxiously dumb or unbelievably competent. Grace falls in the middle, more to the competent side though.
Actually, there were instances where Grace could have just beaten the game after Alex's initial attempt to save her. After she realized the game was lethal, all she had to do was hide. The family ends up finding her multiple times precisely because she tries to escape to a place outside of the property. One particularly great hiding spot that we get to see in the movie itself is the area where they dump all the bodies. It is an area with no security cameras, is dark, has multiple humanoid figures to hide herself amongst, and is an area that they really wouldn't look for her at. Only issue with that spot was that she only went in there after she was found by the little brat who shot her hand and the door was smashed by her falling through. (honestly, I'm surprised how incompetent these people were that they didn't search down there). Had she climbed down there on her own, the family would probably have failed to find her and lost the game. Even if people came to dump the maids' bodies, they'd just throw them down, not actively search the area. If she's lying down underneath the piles of corpses, she'd been basically undetectable.
" they won't beat the curse if I kill myself first" Easy win Edit: some people say that it would be a stalemate or draw or whatever but i win because i get everything i want: they wont beat the curse and i get to leave this mortal coil.
He didn't turn on her because she killed family members. He turned on her because he realized that after everything that had happened even if she survived she wouldn't have continued their relationship. So being the selfish douche he was like if I can't have you...
Exactly! This guy gets it. Also, he didn't go about it business as usual because he secretly believed the curse was real, he did it because the chances of her drawing Hide and Seek were very small. Imagine a game of Russian Roulette, but there's 100 chambers.
@@LnPPersonified I wouldn't believe that it's a small chance, because of how the grandmother's husband picked up that card, and there was at least, from what I remembered mentioned, 4-6 other games.
but wouldn't he have died anyway? If she survives everyone in the family dies right? so why even try to get married in the first place if you know that either you or your fiance will die?
The reason why Grace just cant stay hidden all night long is because she probably doesnt even believe that her husbands family will die in the morning and she believes that she has to get out or else her husbands crazy family would kill her
Years later, but yes. At that point she had already discovered that the family is a grouping of serial killers, teaching the kids to follow in their footsteps. For her to remain hidden would require buying into the curse, and ignore the much more real possibility that even if they all saw the sun rise, the family wouldn't kill her for knowing too much before riding off to the sunset amongst themselves.
Yeah I mean this is possible, but when I was watching the movie I remember thinking "just hold out until morning, once the sun comes up and everyone is still alive they will see the curse is fake." Of course the curse ended up being real, and it's definitely a possibility that even if it wasn't real, they would kill grace out of vengeance
How I will use the shotgun find the person that has the loaded pistol use the gun butt knock her unconscious pick up the gun in if it alerts the family I will shoot them of if I run out of ammo I will pick up one of the weapons and then kill the rest
Grandma_Warrior Nah cause they kill 3 other people on accident and explain that they 1.have to do a ritual (can’t be dead) 2. has to do the ritual on the bride
True wis All of those times were based on position, time and luck. If she made one wrong move in those moments, she would be either captured, and slaughtered. Or just killed anyway. And if the family was more prepared, like they rigged the card draw, if they were more skilled with their weapons, rigged the house full of traps and all, she would be butchered anyway.
this movie is so satisfying, the main character winning and surviving like how an actual person would react. She doesnt spend the entire movie crying and trying to reason with them, instead she buckles up and fights back. Reminds me of the movie "you're next" where she knew how to fight and survive.
one thing that bothered me, the only family member grace intentionally killed was the mom. she didn’t kill daniel, his wife charity was the one who shot him, alex just assumed it was grace since he didn’t see it
I think there _is_ a viable solution for Grace to survive, actually. Given the large amounts of furniture, she could purposefully set up the rooms such that they only have one opening etc. She can anticipate the enemies coming by making them enter from a single chokepoint. And if she hears a lot of them coming about she can always pull the sofa from the door and sneak out another way, relocate to another part of the mansion etc. That's provided she somehow manages to get the map early on, though. So it's really tough.
or: don't make it into a game even god could cancle like: Quiz, she is tied up and needs to answer questions, but once she is tied they'll just start the ritual
An even easier solution: Don't get married, stay in domesticated girlfriend-boyfriend bliss. The curse only activates when you get married, if they never formally got married, the curse wouldn't have activated.
as it's said in the movie, grace wouldn't stay with him if they hadn't gotten married. it was her dream to have a real family of her own, and to her, that could only be achieved by marrying into a family.
@@sonabuvelle7493 that's fair, but she can't have a family if she dies or his entire immediate family dies ---- including him. If he cared he wouldn't have married her, and if that would be a deal breaker for her (not getting married), then they shouldn't have been together
Advice for your cat: Cats usually like pets, but when your cat lays on their belly, they doesn’t mean they want belly pets. I mean in some situations maybe they would, but cats usually don’t like people touching their belly. The reason why they roll on their belly’s in frount of you is to show that they trust you, because cats find the belly as their most vulnerable spot. Maybe this will help with you cat problems.
I'm a bit late, but another thing to be careful of is over stimulation. Some cats can get angry and bite/scratch you if they get too much stimulation from petting, primarily on the back. If you still _really_ want to pet the cat, do it on it's head. Additionally, not all cats get angry from over stimulation, and a lot also don't show it until you realize it's claws are in your arm.
Okay so, hear me out: divorce. I think the couple seconds of her saying “Alex, I want a divorce” right before he dies is what spares her from Mr. Le Bail. Here’s why: When Alex is explaining how his newly-married family members died by *not* playing the game, he includes their new spouses among the deaths. So for Grace to *actually* win, it wasn’t about staying alive until sunrise. She’d doom herself too. It was about separating herself from the family and legally ending the marriage. Le Bail saw that the marriage was over and she found the loophole, which is why he appears and gives her that “damn girl” nod.
Hannah Avila wow... who cares about after party’s just run the papers and do it the be like peace! Actually Alex won’t be in the deal anymore cause it’s for the family and he change his name so ysah
you know what i like the most about this movie is that the protag isn't invincible. spoilers below she gets shot through the hand, nearly sliced open by the fence, and stabbed in the shoulder by the end. she is clearly traumatized by the end and at one point is just like a cornered animal with a knife before the family started exploding
I mean that’s the same thing either every horror movie protagonist to be fair Laurie strode got her arm sliced and was traumatised for I think it was 40 years? A lot of horror movie protagonists actually die but it’s usually in a sequel and I do agree with you to some extent since Ripley didn’t get injured once in alien and tbh she didn’t actually seem too phased by the whole thing
@@redhead_bebs That's because she is the main character of the movie, if this was a real life situation she wouldn't really survive, specially if the family well planned for this.
@Deborah Tunis Maybe. Depends on how theological we want to be. In older Christian tradition, sex is in and of itself an act of marriage. As in, if you do the do you are married no ifs ands or buts. I'm pretty sure Le Bail is based on the Christian Satan as that character is understood in pop culture, so if they never had sex that would possibly work.
he tells her in the movie that he married her because if he didn't, or told her the truth, she would have left him. He would rather risk her dying than leaving him.
@Amadeus _03 just snatch yourself some food, water, a bunch of pillows to sit on, and wait I don't know about you but I'd rather sit on a roof for 6 hours without my phone, than getting sacrificed to a demon
Grace was always going to survive though. Her name literally means mercy from God, so the good of God was basically engrained on her side, which is the only thing that can basically beat the devil, which is what the family made a deal with. I explained that shit but I hope some people understood what I'm poking at.
Wasn't that before she knew it was life or death? I believe she left the elevator because she got tired of waiting and wandered out to be found and end the game. And later somebody died in the elevator, ruining it as a hiding place.
Brittany Reacts true but I wasn’t saying that it should’ve happened anyone in there right mind would leave but no one ever did check there so theoretically she could’ve stayed there the whole time and won be they didn’t do that because the movie would’ve been terrible and wouldn’t sell
hwangyunie would she though? She was going to hide in the shaft elevator to get away from the family she might’ve just ran away to another hiding spot and if she did call the family over grace could’ve easily made the elevator go down and they might not of found her
@@Drklra well i mean theres 5 other possibilities of where that elevator ends up. if they know shes there they can coordinate themselves, therefor trapping her on either floor she stops on
Can we just acknowledge how weird it wouldve been if Alex never went back to his family and they lost a future game of hide and seek..? Cause whether or not he married grace, he’s still a part of the family. So, if somehow he convinced Grace not to get married and they just remained dating and he never went home, she wouldnt be a part of the family, but he’s still blood related. So just imagine Grace and Alex laying in bed, sleeping, then at sunrise, she wakes up covered in blood because her boyfriend inexplicably spontaneously exploded. And who would explain it to her...? the whole fam would be dead...! It’d be the weirdest shít... but *that’s* the movie *I want* .
@@SoRa-re1yd then the wifes/husbands of the family that married in wouldnt have died. and also grace would have died if she didnt refuse alex in the end.
Her husband only switched sides after he realised she was going to leave him regardless considering the shit-show he led her into. So if she'd just kept his hope alive long enough to wipe out his family or survive the night, she could have used him and survived.
She should have changed clothes too. They're expecting her in a white dress and might think shes someone else and its easier for her to run and get away.
nah, that wouldn’t work because they shot the two maids dead bc they thought it was her. So if anything, she would be in more danger than with the white dress
I just thought of something Let’s say she didn’t know she was going to be killed and sacrificed while playing the game and wasn’t told about it during the game. Wouldn’t it then be smarter for the family to not have weapons and simply try to find her? The weapons only serve a purpose if she knows she’s going to be sacrificed. The family could find her and say something along the lines of come with us so we can finish the game or tradition, they take her to the sacrifice room and then incapacitate her and then sacrifice her, the weapons are more of a detriment to there hunting then a help.
Well they DID cheat (by attempting to use the security cameras). I agree that logically, they would rig the game and use deception to basically win by default. However, in the context of the film, they are playing a game. Their family legacy is built upon the concept of beating the odds. I.e. did you draw the wrong card? It's based on chance, luck, and skill (the latter of which they clearly lack). Grace had a string of horrible bad luck, but she got herself out of trouble using her wit. The family was very superstitious and tried following the (implied) rules of Hide and Seek, in fear of the consequences.
I mean in that case why even play the game at all, just drug her, tie her up and do the sacrificey thing. They're rich eccentric assholes. This is the kind of shit rl rich eccentric assholes do. That's why the real way to beat these guys is with guillotines.
@@theGhostSteward Idk I don’t think they had to participate. Just notify the family when they see her and ensure she doesn’t escape. As the butler and maids never try to kill grace and only try to help the family find her (aside from when the Butler swung a knife at her in self defense) Also I think there’s a risk of the maids and butler going to the police about the neighborhood of homicidal satanists.
I have a solution. They never get married. They could have kids, they could have a civil union. If he thought the curse was real, never get officially married. Edit: To add to this. This would go for the whole family. None of them ever get married. They'd cheat the devil by getting the wealth without ever having to play the game and they'd keep getting heirs
They address this in the movie. Alex never wanted to get married, and blames Grace for the whole situation because she was pressuring the situation so he did it. (even though he could have just told her a reason why he didn't believe in marriage) I believe eloping was not an option because past family tried it before and they were the ones that died. Civil union in the best option for them but Alex never took the time to give Grace a reason not to want marriage.
@@LaCrownedGamer yeah but my solution goes to the whole family. To never get married. They'd be able to cheat the devil. They family gets to be rich and prosperous and it'd continue the grow they'd just never get married
@@raien6092 i don't think so because a baby can't play hide and seek and they never mentioned any kids playing the game. Even so sadly you might just have to sacrifice a kid once every like 40 years
@@jayceewilliams5250 that would be the best solution, in the movie it wasn't stated what would happen if people never got married so it would be path of unknown, I'd say try it :). The only thing I can see happening is either the devil coming back to revamp his deal or just taking away the family fortune with each new generation of non-married couples, both of which are way better than death.
This is an important point. The family was inept, because rich. That was the whole point, I think: they had gone soft and the game is how Le Bail gets out of the contract after a few generations
@@jwhite-1471 I mean, I've never hunted but I now what's a trigger and how I don't have to push it with the crossbow pointing at someone. Even more, literally never point a crossbow at someone at least you want to kill him or something
I feel like some of these solutions could’ve incorporated Daniel. He was clearly willing to help her, that should’ve been taken into consideration. I think in the end he was more loyal to Grace than Alex was. (Also, they had way more chemistry)
I thought about that but she tries several times throughout the film to convince Daniel to help her, and he kinda sorta does and also doesn't, only making a hard choice right at the end. I couldn't think if a clean way to incorporate Daniel because he was too unpredictable until the last moments of the film.
@@FilmHerald she could have worked with the fact that they need her alive to do the ritual, either threatening to kill herself or destroying the thingy that they use for the ritual
One strategy I thought of was never officially marrying her, just keep her as a fiance, so they never must play the game. And if the want children, they could just have children and give them the last name of the domas. But Alex would have to prepare, but if he figured this out, it wouldn't danger either his family, or fiance. Or just nuke em. That normally works
Solution: set fire to the house. This does depend on Grace getting hold of at least some matches or a lighter, or getting to the kitchen. That old house sure does seem to have a lot of old drapes and carpets and super-burnable bookcases and booze, and no sprinklers or fire extinguishers in sight. She starts the fire and lets it spread. First of all, its the best kind of distraction for her. Plus if the family is inept at hunting her down, they're going to be equally inept at fighting a fire. They (or their neighbors) will have to end up calling the fire department, which will bring the police as well and tie up the estate with potential witnesses to their crimes for hours. All that will give Grace plenty of time to sneak away or to openly come out and talk to the police and firefighters. I do think it's unlikely that most people would think of this off the bat, but as the scenario played out the victim got more desperate it might. And I do think it's a workable solution.
I do remember the house catching fire towards the end. No one noticed, so they kept hunting grace. It didn’t play a role until they failed and the curse killed them and accelerated the fire. So in order for it to work, Grace would have to start the fire intentionally and have a planned escape route so she doesn’t burn in the fire too
This wouldn’t work because it depends on Alex telling her the family wants to kill her. Why would she set fire to a house to win a game of hide and seek when she doesn’t even have to win it or know the people playing are trying to kill her.
She needs some sort of mask for the fire, or the smoke will kill her. If she could take a clean piece of cloth out of her wedding dress, put it under the water and burn the house she could however succeed in your plan
Alex did not turn on Grace when he saw that she killed his mom. Alex told his own mom that he would kill her if they harmed Grace. He turned on Grace when he realized that she wouldn't be with him after what she went through because of him and his family.
One thing I really liked about this film is that, to me, it really does all seem to be about playing the game. What I mean is, at the end of the film when the family realises they've lost, they don't immediately die- it's only after the Aunt tries to kill her anyway that they start blowing up like water balloons full of mince meat. I genuinely feel like the deal they made is entirely hinged upon respecting the game itself, and not on who wins or loses- like Alex said, she didn't have to win to be a part of the family. I think the same goes for the rest of them- they didn't have to win to fulfil their end of the deal, they just had to play the game.
This. I initially thought the twist was they were unnecessary killing supposed-to-be members of the family and they could have just went along their merry way in the beginning if they realised no one really has to win or lose and play just for the sake of the game.
the reason the le domas’ play this game at all is because of a deal with the devil. so how you beat it is very simple just have the power of god and anime on your side. AAAAHHHHHH
Shadow Marco Uh, the curse was the result of a deal with the devil. That’s how the whole problem started. Their ancestor got greedy, and they suffered as a result.

@@SpecialSpeedy he also explains the reason why he never told het about hide and seek but you should watch the movie for that, although its spoiled already
Alex could've prepared a place safe enough for grace to hid in. He should've prepared the worst case scenario which is drawing the one bad card. The rule is to not be found till sunrise, she just needs to win the game.
Alex doesn’t really want Grace to survive, deep down he loves his family and believes in the curse and that means he wants Grace to die, even if he may have convinced himself otherwise.
itsanna07 Not really that he loves his family, but he does believe in the curse and it would mean he’d die too. He’d also lose his part of the inheritance were he to help Grace and lose in the process.
13 seekers with 6.25 hours to find her amounts to 81.25 man hours. It would be as if someone hid a dummy and gave you two full work weeks to find it. Do you really think she could go unnoticed, even in a building that large, for over 6 hours while over a dozen people look for her?
I think Alex is a good guy, yes he brought grace to the house, which is dumb, but there are more horror movie characters with fewer braincells than Alex. When his wife kill his mom in front of him, he probably just had a rush of anger or didn't want any more of his family getting killed. Him begging for mercy is probably just him being afraid of death. No one wants to explode.
i don't think that's what she wanted. it's mentioned in the movie that she wanted to be part of a real family so she probably wanted to have an official marriage.
So... Were going to ignore the fact that we can distract? There's 77 rooms, set a few on fire, the firetrucks, ambulance and police would all show up. It's hard to sacrifice someone in front of the police officers
I think if I were her, I'd just be scared the cops would be corrupt too and in on it. So often in movies/series, they call for help only for the help to arrive and be discovered to be working with the villains they're trying to escape from in the first place (example: I Spit On Your Grave; the police officer she finds ends up raping her too and bringing her back to her original captors). These people are super rich, it's not too far a stretch to think they'd be in it too. At the point where she talks to the trip help guy in the car, I thought that was gonna be a twist where he was gonna turn out to be in on it too
In the movie, they say people who elope suddenly die in their wedding night. Alex clearly believes that to be part of the curse. So eloping wouldn't be an option. But just telling her and not getting married would. If the Le Domas family would just stop getting married they would avoid the curse all together and keep their wealth, as being part of the family is clearly defined by getting married and so being together and having children without getting married would then create a new family.
@@ziwuri nah I don't think the curse would pass onto her since she want there when the family actually made the forbidden deal. Didn't the curse end when the family popped like water balloons?
@@Miraculousdragoneyes i agree, the curse would not pass to her, but she should get an actual legal inheritance of the family fortune. Assuming Alex doesn't have a will because most people his age don't, everything would go to his wife, who never actually killed him, so the slayer rule shouldn't apply. If I remember correctly, Alex was the last one to die, so everything should go to him. (Of course this would be assuming the police believe her story XD)
I think there is the fact that she sort of tried to survive. When we see her she's not waiting to be saved. And if I was at this situation I'm very lazy. Very soon I'd be like: "Please just kill me I'm too tired." But when we look at her she uses every moment to make it harder. Kinda like her mindset was OK IF YOU GONNA KILL ME YOU HAVE TO EARN IT.
If I was in this situation I’d probably try to distract them than make an escape. The house seems to have a lot of candles in it so I’d set fire to a wing of the house, maybe even setting multiple fires so that it burns quicker and causes more commotion. I think it’s fair to assume that a lot of the family would be distracted or panicked by the fire burning their house to the ground so while the majority is in or near that wing of the building find a window that you can reasonably climb through and break it with some furniture (sorry if the glass is said to be reinforced or something but I don’t think they said so explicitly). Hide out somewhere in the woods until dawn, if I found that dead body pit, as mentally scarring as it might be, I might try to hide out there as it doesn’t seem like anyone was checking it and most family members seemed just a bit too sqimish to go in or look super closely. Not a foolproof plan by any means but I think it would give you a decent shot of survival.
Fenris ChainedCaseySloop OMG that’s right. It’s a rustic ancient ass mansion; of course it has candles everywhere. JUST SET FIRE TO THE BITCH AND DIP OUT A WINDOW
Quick question - what if we came at this from another angle: attract as many people as possible to the area and use it to get out? The house is on a large forested estate, and from what I gather the house uses a lot of wood in its structure/furniture - what if you used the cooking oils and matches from the kitchen and started a massive fire? That would attract the fire, ambulance and police units and you'd have enough distraction to get out?
I think the issue still remains. Everyone is out to get her and she will be caught. The fire will restrict the amount of the property she can hide in making it easier for her to be caught. I like the idea though
Danny Phantom Maybe the police and fire department will get there in time. Sure, the house seems pretty far away from any other buildings but if Grace could just get a weapon, run, and hide for long enough she could just wait it out, it’s not that hard to sneak up on someone and beat them with a gun, especially since they don’t expect it. Plus, the fire could also distract the family since they probably don’t want their house burning down.
itsanna07 it’s a good idea and I wouldn’t have thought of it. It works but also relies on luck. In the movie she was caught with the whole house so she has less of a chance now and could even die in the fire. In all fairness, the family would be even less coordinated in a fire and some members might even up and leave because they think the curse is fake so it has ups and downs. It could work but isn’t full proof. Good idea though
it could work i’m not disagreeing, however the house starts to burn at the end but the family is relentless and WILL NOT give up. they’re still trying to sacrifice her even when their house is burning and they’re all in danger. even the kids remain in the house to see the ritual through. fire is the least of their concerns
Imagine if the game was monopoly and if she got into debt or however you lose at monopoly (I lost my playing rights a long time ago after I tried to choke someone with a house or something) and she would die although I don't know what would happen if another family member lost...
Since all the other games are non-lethal, the family would just have to beat her in monopoly and they keep their wealth and status. It was only Hide and Seek that "Mr. Le Bail" demands a sacrifice.
Isn’t the reason he betrayed her was because she would leave him after this? “If I can’t have her, no one can” scenario? He did say that he’d kill his own mom.
“You won’t be with me after this, will you” were his words before he betrayed her. Nothing about his mother. And the fact his FAMILY killed his brother, the only family he cared about. He didn’t tell about his family’s “traditions” because she would leave. He married her because if he didn’t she would leave.
I love watching these because I have BAD anxiety and these lowkey help me keep me anxiety under control. it gives me control over situations that probably won't even happen. If that makes any sense. You might get it if you have anxiety
I was thinking the same thing actually. Even when this guy said that there wasn’t a way to beat the game, I realized that there still was at least one way, even if it all depended on luck and chance.
The giant rat that makes all of the rules. wow thank you very much for taking my diagnosis from my therapist, ripping it up, throwing it out the window and replacing it with your professional diagnosis of a person based on a single paragraph. 🥰 I appreciate it
Omg, I feel the same way. My therapist actually recommend finding things that can help me gain control over stupid never-going-to-happen situations and it has really helped lessen my anxiety. Although, I am constantly preparing to see zombies or whatever when I go out so that's a small downside lol.
I honestly believe that the only reason Alex decided to betray Grace and side with his family towards the end was because he believed she would leave him after that night. Earlier in the film we see Grace tell Alexs' mother that Alex was perfectly happy living in sin but he married her because she insisted on becoming a family due to her past with foster care. Later Alex tells Grace that he married her because she would have left if he didn't ( again as she was driven by her desire for a family) . He didn't tell her about the murder because he didn't want to scare her away. When he finally decided to side with his family it's after she moves away from him, scared, and he says something like" you're going to leave me after this, aren't you". In the end Grace calls him a selfish fuck and I completely agree. Which is why if she lied about staying with him even after the game, he probably would have continued to help her.
I think he wanted to kill her because if she saves her and let his family die he would be alone as she would leave him, but if he let her die he would still have his family
This movie reminds me of a Japanese legend were they groom a girl to be pure and innocent from birth, sheltering her from the outside world, then sacrificing her through a brutal and torturous ritual. The ritual has to happen once during a set about of years or decades, maybe it was once every 100 years, I forgot. But in the legend, the girl actually broke away from the family one night and met a young man her age, thus ruining the pure nature they raised her to be, thus tainting her and the family only find out when they preform the ritual which has served a demon sealing ritual to prevent a curse, similar to the movie. The movie comes across like an Americanized version of the story, but it could be a coincidence that the movie and legend are so similar.
They specifically mention that some of his cousins tried eloping and staying away from them but were found dead shortly after. Doesn’t exactly go against the “Curse is real. I love family more theory.” But felt like it was an important piece of the puzzle.
Fitch can't figure out how to use a crossbow ... even with youtube videos ... And Daniel's an alcoholic. As for Aunt Helene, she's useless, since she has a battle axe ... while only being allowed to incapacitate her prey. No, she can't 'just' chop one of Grace's limbs off, because then she'll bleed to death before the ceremony.
For the first solution, I don’t think Grace would want to cheat. She wants to join the family and wants to show a good expression, as seen in the wedding and before. I think she would want to win properly and feel more determined to play properly.
To be fair they were all nervous so they made more mistakes than they would've have done if they were more prepared, plus one of them was literally high and wasn't in full control of her abilities. Grace was also full of adrenaline, and all of that combined with the fact that at first there was someone helping her, I personally found it pretty believable she survived. I had a lot of fun watching this movie and I love watching these videos, I always look forward to Film Herald videos on the movies I watch 💜
Further weight to your theory: if Grace lives then Alex dies (as he’s a family member the curse applies to him). My take on Alex is he just hoped she didn’t draw that card (odds were very good for this) and then once they payed whatever safe game she did pick they could move on. Sure, the curse would still exist but then Grace would be safe from it, albeit now cursed like him, which is the real issue for me with him. Alex condemns Grace by marrying her no matter what. He’s an ass. I cheered his death. Side note: Favourite death from the film is the housekeeper in the dumb waiter. I know. And Grace trying to save her was a great character moment showing she was kind even when betrayed.
couldnt the family just use a maid as a sacrifice? i mean, they kill some in the movie, and they seem to put up a lot just for one person. they couldve just used a maid, tbh.
Yeah, Alex was never a good guy. He was just kind of a pussy who wanted to weasel his way out of his end of the bargain. He wasn't heroically protecting Grace, he just sat back and hoped for the best, and when that didn't happen he tried to keep her alive in a way that would have benefited _him,_ not her. As soon as things swung against him, he turned on her. Alex was always a tool.
she still wouldve died because by getting married shes a part of the family. the only real way to win is to both survive the night and separate yourself from the family (like grace did, by saying that she wanted a divorce) so you dont explode lol
I think Alex betrayed her because when he sees all the blood and dirt he instantly realized Grace won't be with her after all this... So it's just better to save his family, the only people who cared about him.
I think he was selfish. He'd rather have her at risk of her being sacrificed than risk losing her by telling her the truth and not marrying. He didn't truly care about her and he was brainwashed by his family.

Isn't it kinda Sick that Bloody Horror like this counts as Comedy nowadays? The Perception of the People, of the Viewers, is changing - anyone but me noticed?
Not necessarily. He tried to warn Grace because pulling out that card, he might lose her. But not marrying her, he's afraid he would lose her either. And I love how much he loved Grace but in the end, his desire to keep her ultimately became selfishness that he'd rather sacrifice her if she wouldnt stay. I just applaud how they were able to somewhat tell that sometimes our human nature could bring the devil inside of us.

Dying Alone: 50/50
Ending Up Like His Family: 99/100
Marrying: 85/100 (he is rich)
Marrying Someone After Telling Them About the Satanic Cult: 1/100
Marrying Someone _Decent_ After Telling Them About the Satanic Cult: 1/1000000
Marrying Someone Decent If He _Doesn't_ Tell Them About the Satanic Cult: 85/100
His Bride Draws the Hide & Seek Card: 1/5+

OMG yes!
I guess its like the Friday the 13th game but instead of one versus many, its many versus one. They both have the same premises of surving and hiding.
The most GRACEful way of thinking
I really like this idea of all the other 7k ppl idea in this comment section

@@LnPPersonified I wouldn't believe that it's a small chance, because of how the grandmother's husband picked up that card, and there was at least, from what I remembered mentioned, 4-6 other games.
Could it be a bit of both.
but wouldn't he have died anyway?

There are a fair amount of rooms you could just investigate. Also rooms like bathrooms and closets are amost always only gonna have 1 entrance.

Advice for your cat:
Cats usually like pets, but when your cat lays on their belly, they doesn’t mean they want belly pets. I mean in some situations maybe they would, but cats usually don’t like people touching their belly. The reason why they roll on their belly’s in frount of you is to show that they trust you, because cats find the belly as their most vulnerable spot. Maybe this will help with you cat problems.
also beyond that, cats always give a warning, if you're not getting it, that's because you're either ignoring it or not paying attention enough

Le Bail. Here’s why:
When Alex is explaining how his newly-married family members died by *not* playing the game, he includes their new spouses among the deaths.
I just finished watching the movie and had the same idea as yours. I completely agree.

Let’s say she didn’t know she was going to be killed and sacrificed while playing the game and wasn’t told about it during the game.
Bruh whose side are u on lmao
PewPewPies I’m just pointing out that the family could have easily won this and this is something in the movie which didn’t make sense
RUclipsSaidToCreateAUsername oh wow this is smart but they probably didnt think of this- also ignore that just for the sake of entertainment
That's why the real way to beat these guys is with guillotines.
this movie is the EPITOME of realizing you got the lame brother
Hehe she had the "devil's luck." Maybe the devil wanted the family to break the contract. So he lent grace his luck.

Also, why they had to participate? I probably being helping the bride or going home!
this was f*cking traumatizing
@@theGhostSteward Idk I don’t think they had to participate. Just notify the family when they see her and ensure she doesn’t escape. As the butler and maids never try to kill grace and only try to help the family find her (aside from when the Butler swung a knife at her in self defense)
Also I think there’s a risk of the maids and butler going to the police about the neighborhood of homicidal satanists.
Their kids must do the game I guess

One strategy I thought of was never officially marrying her, just keep her as a fiance, so they never must play the game.
This is a better solution
I do remember the house catching fire towards the end. No one noticed, so they kept hunting grace. It didn’t play a role until they failed and the curse killed them and accelerated the fire. So in order for it to work, Grace would have to start the fire intentionally and have a planned escape route so she doesn’t burn in the fire too
I was thinking find the boiler room/heater and blow that, like The Shining (book).
This. I initially thought the twist was they were unnecessary killing supposed-to-be members of the family and they could have just went along their merry way in the beginning if they realised no one really has to win or lose and play just for the sake of the game.
the reason the le domas’ play this game at all is because of a deal with the devil. so how you beat it is very simple

Alex wouldn’t sacrifice himself to let his wife grace continue to live. He would have exploded if he tried to save grace

Oh my gosh. That’s such a good idea

@@crimsonmaverick8237 Fire spread way quickly then people believe, a wing would become a house in not less in ten minutes.
The Complexed Even better; so once a couple candles are thrown down, there’s already a foolproof diversion to escape the house
Not to mention the fact that old mansions burn really fast.
2 things the devil might protect the house from burning because of the deal and you would die in the fire most likely
Good idea.
I think the issue still remains. Everyone is out to get her and she will be caught. The fire will restrict the amount of the property she can hide in making it easier for her to be caught. I like the idea though
Danny Phantom
Maybe the police and fire department will get there in time.
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Grace wouldn’t have drawn hide and seek... like what if the game was monopoly or something lmao
Isn’t it strange that hide and seek would’ve the only game for the losers to explode into bits?
Imagine if the game was monopoly and if she got into debt or however you lose at monopoly (I lost my playing rights a long time ago after I tried to choke someone with a house or something) and she would die although I don't know what would happen if another family member lost...
Since all the other games are non-lethal, the family would just have to beat her in monopoly and they keep their wealth and status. It was only Hide and Seek that "Mr. Le Bail" demands a sacrifice.
