I just realised Addy was compassionate with the tethered kids because she knew they were one of her own but when she was face to face with Red, she felt no remorse because she wasn't of her own. The fight scene between the two showed how both of them went back to their original manners, Red who was actually Addy had a more graceful stance and Addy who was actually Red went into an animalistic frenzy.

Technically all of the tethered that are holding hands count as kills because if they are holding hands then that means they have already killed their double
Jason The Critic yeah but the doubles bodies were not seen. And I think in this series you either have to see the kill, or a confirmed dead body. Cuz the “kill” technically wasn’t in the movie if the bodies aren’t there
@@26qxor43 actually, various times in the saw kill count there are some deaths without showing the bodies or death, like rigg, or the guy who was denied healthcare (Harold Abbot)
Just noticed that the ending twist was foreshadowed very early in the movie by the fact that Red was the only tethered that knew how to speak, and the fact that kid ''Addie'' didn't speak a word after those 15 minutes she got lost, cuz she didn't know how to speak in the first place
I like the fact that Addy was actually the tethered version as the fact that she became a good person and started a family shows that the tethered are just people but with a tortured, horrific life. That's why I find it so sad when the tethered children die, as even though they are evil killers, they were young and didnt deserve to die.
Just was thinking about it. You know how when adie came back from the beach, and she didn't speak for a while, and acted very different, and this was blamed on ptsd. This was probably because the tether adie didn't know how to do these things and act normal when she first came to the real world.
Don't know if anyone has brought much attention to the scene. But I love the moment where Addy is lying on the couch, and the camera shows us a decorative/fake spider on the table beside a much smaller, yet real spider crawling past it. If I'm not mistaken, it seemed like another nice Easter Egg/hint comparing the tethered to their counterparts that live above ground.
I just realized, after watching Us so many times and watching this video. The same way the family was lined up in the drive way, is the same way the family stickers were lined up on the back window of the car at the beginning when Addie and the rest of the family arrived at they summer home. That's one coincidence down from the jump
@@Cookieznothere Uh yea. When I first watched the movie I didn't pay much attention to the stickers. It was only after I rewatched the movie back to back 3 times is when I really studied that sticker. I didn't care or think much of it at first. I just thought it was a cute sticker. And I didn't think they would have the family lined up the same way in the drive way. So it's a cute creative way of doing it. Not everything will be caught the first time you see something. That's why I kept rewatching it. I like looking for more clues and mysteries.
Conspiracy theroy: the "pretend tethered james" actually killed the real james, which mean all the kill counts and videos after this were made by the tethered james.
There’s 3 viewers on dead meat 1. People who come for the kills 2. People who come for James 3. People who come for the movie without watching it for some reason I come for all of the reasons
I wrote a college essay about 2 years ago now about how horror movies create fear in the audience (to this day, it’s probably my best essay I’ve ever written). I actually used the scene at 12:56 as an example in one of the sections of the essay due to how well it’s done. The safety of the home being turned on its head so quickly as we, the audience, can only watch in silence from the outside as each family member gets killed is unbelievably well done. It’s one of my favorite horror scenes of all time.
idk if she ‘just’ proved herself as a good actress lol, she won tons of recognition and an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her heartbreaking and far more compelling and complex role in 12 Years A Slave years ago
Question: are Umbrae and Pluto’s genetics are technically half tethered and half non-tethered (because “Red” is really Adelaide)? And if so, does that mean Zora and Jason are the same way? I’m not sure why I’ve never thought about that before, but it would make sense I think.
i feel like “tethered” isn’t a genetic thing, the whole point is that the “tethered” can become almost completely normal people if they’re just taken out of that horrific situation, as seen w addy. it’s more of an environment issue that created the tethered, not a dna thing.
There is no "half tethered." Addie is a Tethered above ground who does a dance routine that makes Red the non-Tethered dance underground. If these Tethered were different biologically then Red should be the one who "leads" the mirroring they do, it wouldn't be something Addie can just usurp from her just because she lives above ground.
James as someone who likes to go back and watch your older videos, it still blows me away how far you've come and how much better your performances are in the later kill counts. You used to talk really fast and almost too focused on just the numbers. I have a blast watching your content and seeing you grow each week. Thanks for being consistent entertainment for me and others. Out of control that you've never missed a week since you've started. Unbelieve!

Oxiclea N Well, sort of, mate. A kid wandering off for fifteen minutes wouldn’t be expected to shatter the balance of the world like that. Kids wander off a lot. So even if not for Addy’s father doing so, someone else’s kid could’ve.
I love how we have two mcu actors as the main parents in this movie Gabe: winston duke: m'baku Abby: lupita nyong'o: nakia Both characters in the black panther movies
Im NoT LiKe OtHeR gIrLs you missed the point. you’re supposed to be conflicted on who you root for. if you for sure root for one person you missed one of the points of the movie
Neither versions of Red/Addy are villains. The basic concept from what I can glean from the movie is, what would you do to have a better life? Social mores and keeping up with the Joneses are the true villain in this movie.
For all the people saying that "we were rooting for the wrong person all along," I don't actually think that's true. The Tethered are creepy and murderous, yes, but they also had been living an existence that is as horrific as it is unjust. I think the fact that we as the audience were "tricked" into rooting for a tethered character was to make the point that it was actually kinda justice to have the og tethered Red win out in the end. What she did to the original Addie when they were young was fucked up and horrific, but Red was essentially a slave escaping at the expense of her (unwitting) master. I think the movie wants us to think hard about exactly how "wrong" an ending it actually is (as well as implying the point that The Tethered, if brought above-ground and raised in actual humane conditions, might really be every bit as "normal" and adjusted as us).
@@GM-fw3wm Lol why is that the part of my comment you're fixating on? Whatever you want to call the metaphorical dynamic between those two (master&slave, person&shadow, human&tethered, etc.) my main point is by the end of the movie, you realize that the character you assumed to be the normal main character was actually an oppressed "underground" person who won out against the privileged "aboveground" person. And conversely, the evil being was actually the "normal" person, originally. Which makes it, in a twisted way, a weirdly good ending. There are a lot of layers to the climax of the movie is all I'm saying.
I agree, I also believe that the movie is also trying to tell us that what perception matters and that the only reason we rooted for the tethered red was because we thought she was the original
I love how James has a themed background for every kill count he does. And how at the end before he does the kill count he sometimes does a little "skit" or whatever. Like how he did one here.
@@corruption.5390 I’m pretty sure you’re parents weren’t offended, it’s just a funny scene in the movie. And if they can’t seem to understand that, then Idk how they became police officers.
Wait, after giving some thoughts. We weren’t actually rooting for the wrong character, since Addie tethered version is the one her husband is in loved with and the one who raised the child. She’s still the same woman to her family.
i guess so? but i think what most of the comments mean is that we were rooting for the wrong person as in we were rooting for the bad guy, because we were fed the narrative that red and the tethered family are the bad guys, when in reality addy is the “evil one”
that depends on if you view the tethered as inherently evil or that the circumstances made them killers, cause Addy was still a good mother and wife and for all we saw a good person but she did strangle Red but as a child desperate to get to a better life
no not really, the fact she was just able to '' move'' on from leaving red behind in that hell hole means she shows little remorse for abandoning an innocent while she went on, she even progressively reverts back to her tethered self towards the end , she's not the same woman to the rest of the Wilsons , since red prolly told Jason what her mom did and he saw how his mom killed nix with a little too much compassion , sure she adapted to a loving and nurturing mom but if she really had such a good character development from her past, why not show any remorse for red or at least try saving her, instead she was more worried of red taking her rightfully owned life back.
longgone yeah i know, i listened to igor like 30 times and no other tyler songs since it came out and i listened to WOLF and Flower Boy the other day and it felt so refreshing
Fun fact: the Bible verse “Jeremiah 11:11” that the guy on the boardwalk had states that god will bring a disaster upon humans that they cannot escape.
Was so sad when I found out about Red and Adie. Red was the original Adie, and she was supposed to have that life. The whole movie, I loved Adie so much. Seeing the end, I was hoping Adie would die. Poor Red.
日本の猫Japanese cat Wanting to kill your kidnapper is one thing. But deciding to kill everyone else because of what scientists did is something else. Sure, maybe she had to offer everyone else a chance at reality to be able to get revenge, but still, she seemed to basically focused on revenge too much. Just saying. Cheers.
5:35 I love this scene because I feel like the shadows are another representation of the tethered. The shadows are tethered to them and have to follow their every move. Of course they’re not sentient. But I really like this little detail! (I might be completely wrong however and I’m just looking too deep into this 😰) Another detail- Addy refers to the tethered as “shadows” of other people!
ALSO if you guys havent noticed, The reason Red can speak is because she used to be in the non shadowed place, she is also the only teathered able to speak. And that is why as a child she didnt speak since they can only make weird noises. she basically had to teach herself how to speak and such
@@rylonharmon542 Apt phrasing, considering that a shadow is made up of three parts. The object standing in the way of light creates the umbra while the less blocked light that gets around the object creates a hazy, less defined shadow called the penumbra. The meeting point of these two creates a tertiary shadow called the antumbra. The penumbra and the antumbra are still polluted by light and are thus less defined which leaves the umbra the darkest part of the shadow in the center. Quite literally pitch black to its core.
I love how James' doppleganger is exactly how I'd imagine him to look after a few days of minimal sleep and no grooming. One of the better post-count skits 😂
I love this film so much. The simplicity of the Tethered's goal is urban legend-like, the twist is genius, the themes are never shoved in your face, the score is phenomenal, the rabbits are a mystery... So much of the greatness of this film comes from piecing it together, and I love every second of it.
the theme of this movie is so beautifully dark. there’s two sides to every person, and we are constantly fighting our evil side trying to keep ourselves together as a pristine perfect person
@@chuul1417 uh... the social criticism is not something I'd picture as subplot... And this psychological and simplist metaphor to someones dubious nature is obviously not the main theme.

Even though Red's backstory is tragic with her losing her original life, I can't help but be glad that Addie managed to survive and reunite with her family.
Jesus Shuttlesworth But it wasn’t with evil intent. She just wanted comfort, freedom and the chance to be an actual human being. Plus she was a kid when she made the choice, so we can’t really expect her to have thought out the consequences of her actions. We see this through the tethered attack, as she had to face Red’s revolt and put her family in danger. It’s fair to judge Adelaide from a distance, but put in her shoes, I doubt we wouldn’t do the same thing, something that is reflected upon in the end, as despite what she did all those years ago, she had suffered just as much and deserved a life the same
Is it really her family though? If addie got switched back as a child, these relationships with her family aren’t truly hers, but Red’s since Red is the one above ground living life. Although that makes me question how the tethering of a double works, if Red was in control since she was the land dwellers , or if Addie was mirroring Red’s actions as the other doubles.
Jsjwjja Gaming if you’re saying the comment is stolen your dumb, you act like people can’t THINK the same thing , cause god forbid I think that lupita nyong’os acting in this is so scary the voice she does it just so unsettling. get over your self Jesus .
I’m honestly shocked how we never got a scene of one of the family taking the suit of their dead tethered self and using it to trick the other tethers or the other way around
@@allisonmiller3669 yeah but like, it’s such an iconic trope/concept and for good reason, cus it’s cool as hell. Logic be damned, it’d been super cool to see
In theory that could work, but the family’s tethereds have little differences in their appearances that could give them away, like Gabe’s beard being shorter than Abraham or Adelaide’s hair being styled differently than Red’s. Maybe the kids could’ve gotten away with it though
Here’s an interesting theory: she shows compassion to her kids not because they look like her own kids but because they ARE her own kids. She is a tethered after all
Incorrect, she is the tethered one but she exchanged herself at a young age not when she gave birth to both kids, what i think is that the boy that had scars in his face is the real one also and was exchanged. He looks at his “mom” at the end like he knows and she knows they are both none of the real ones. it’s all very confusing
@@erossecrets I think it's because when he walked in on her murdering the theter twin, she was breathing in animal like fashion, as he saw from the other ones

@@elilovesjesus9169 see that's clever, even better if they were direct sequels. I hate how hollywood thinks we're too dumb that we need a franchise to be numbered. I was disappointed that the sequel to "Now you see me" wasn't called "Now you don't".... total missed opportunity.
Angela J Plot twist: Peele is in telepathic connection with aliens trapped underground who are trying to call for help. They influence him whenever he’s naming a movie to put a message together.
One thing I actually liked in this movie were the kids. Typically kids always do dumb shit and irritate me because they don't act like humans, but all the kids in this one were believable and well acted. Like young Addy/Red didn't seem like a typical dumb kid wandering off... she seemed like an irritated kid, tired of her parents shit and sick of doing what they want and just wanted some alone time and to find something more fun to do. Her father seemed to bulldoze her birthday and the mother just kept complaining so her leaving was understandable. Jason and Zora were pretty good and believable as well, especially the bickering and fighting... and I liked that they actually stepped up to help and fight back instead of cowering and getting in the way, but they also showed that it affected them both. When the shock and adrenaline wore off they both showed signs of trauma from what happened. All in all, it's very rare that I actually enjoy kids in a movie look forward to seeing more of them but Us delivered and I'm gonna rewatch a few more times for sure!
you know what would have been terrifying in the film? a post credit scene where it's dead bodies all holding hands, with rabbit carcasses all over the floor. disgusting but would've been cool.

Jason The Critic yeah but the doubles bodies were not seen. And I think in this series you either have to see the kill, or a confirmed dead body. Cuz the “kill” technically wasn’t in the movie if the bodies aren’t there

I like the fact that Addy was actually the tethered version as the fact that she became a good person and started a family shows that the tethered are just people but with a tortured, horrific life. That's why I find it so sad when the tethered children die, as even though they are evil killers, they were young and didnt deserve to die.

Question: are Umbrae and Pluto’s genetics are technically half tethered and half non-tethered (because “Red” is really Adelaide)? And if so, does that mean Zora and Jason are the same way? I’m not sure why I’ve never thought about that before, but it would make sense I think.
Yeah that's right
You’re exactly right!
i feel like “tethered” isn’t a genetic thing, the whole point is that the “tethered” can become almost completely normal people if they’re just taken out of that horrific situation, as seen w addy. it’s more of an environment issue that created the tethered, not a dna thing.
@@susansirrs2328 yeah. the whole point is that the movie looks at nature vs nurture and says nurture. im pretty sure its about classism

I’m just rooting for the dad
Colby Gardiner same😂😂😂
For all the people saying that "we were rooting for the wrong person all along," I don't actually think that's true.
It’s not rlly a slave/master dynamic at all
where the fuck did you pull out a slave/master narrative from?
As matpat put it, the point is that we couldn't tell the difference
I thought the Adeline /Red scene was one of the strongest parts. I loved “how it must’ve been to grow up with a sky..”

Wait, after giving some thoughts. We weren’t actually rooting for the wrong character, since Addie tethered version is the one her husband is in loved with and the one who raised the child. She’s still the same woman to her family.
i guess so? but i think what most of the comments mean is that we were rooting for the wrong person as in we were rooting for the bad guy, because we were fed the narrative that red and the tethered family are the bad guys, when in reality addy is the “evil one”
that depends on if you view the tethered as inherently evil or that the circumstances made them killers, cause Addy was still a good mother and wife and for all we saw a good person but she did strangle Red but as a child desperate to get to a better life
tethered being animalistic could be environment too and Red saying they have no soul doesn't come from a source of no bias
no not really, the fact she was just able to '' move'' on from leaving red behind in that hell hole means she shows little remorse for abandoning an innocent while she went on, she even progressively reverts back to her tethered self towards the end , she's not the same woman to the rest of the Wilsons , since red prolly told Jason what her mom did and he saw how his mom killed nix with a little too much compassion , sure she adapted to a loving and nurturing mom but if she really had such a good character development from her past, why not show any remorse for red or at least try saving her, instead she was more worried of red taking her rightfully owned life back.
But she have no soul. And she could became evil anytime

@@rylonharmon542 Apt phrasing, considering that a shadow is made up of three parts. Jesus Shuttlesworth if you think about it, It’s Addies family and not Reds
Jesus Shuttlesworth you think she’s evil but she just wanted to have a life too
Jesus Shuttlesworth But it wasn’t with evil intent. She just wanted comfort, freedom and the chance to be an actual human being. Plus she was a kid when she made the choice, so we can’t really expect her to have thought out the consequences of her actions. We see this through the tethered attack, as she had to face Red’s revolt and put her family in danger. It’s fair to judge Adelaide from a distance, but put in her shoes, I doubt we wouldn’t do the same thing, something that is reflected upon in the end, as despite what she did all those years ago, she had suffered just as much and deserved a life the same
Elisabeth Schmerzler the tethered are said not to have souls
Is it really her family though? If addie got switched back as a child, these relationships with her family aren’t truly hers, but Red’s since Red is the one above ground living life. Although that makes me question how the tethering of a double works, if Red was in control since she was the land dwellers , or if Addie was mirroring Red’s actions as the other doubles.

James' tethered is named counter
Canon.

Question: Are we going to see Counter later in your videos?
@@DeadMeat can't wait to see the thanos of the Dead Meat Cinematic universe
Sucks at counting, is ok when people count their own kills and doesn't care about demonetisation so he will post as much gore as he wants
I like how Jason and Pluto show how all people and their shadows are connected because kids are really good at making friends

this would be a great costume idea for some twins
KILLERbutter45// omg yeah
I’m a twin and thanks for the idea
@@andersmith1484 dont forget the golden sccizors
Or a good idea for quintuplets two of them could be the normal while the other two can be the doppelganger
Hm you’re right, thanks for the idea.
you know what would have been terrifying in the film?
a post credit scene where it's dead bodies all holding hands, with rabbit carcasses all over the floor.
disgusting but would've been cool.
That would've been awesome but it also could denie a sequel
Agreed, that would have been such a cool and chilling visual.
If it did it probably would have given me nightmares but apart from that I would not be scared
And it would be a nice touch nice creativity man
xalonics your so right
Pluto remains me favourite character in this movie. I love the way he runs around on all fours, and I love how heavily fire is involved with his character. His death is also the coolest in my opinion
James is the only person on RUclips who I don’t mind putting a ton of ads on the videos because I know how much time these videos take up and I love him.
James, keep up the incredible work.
@Gaming XStanley lol true
"Ophelia, call the police.."
_"Sure, playing F**k the Police by NWA"_
😂😂
DoggoDoesThings J I laughed my ass off when Ophelia said that.
a familiy frendly doggo,good boi
Lol my name is Ophelia so I cringed at that part
Still pissed off that Lupita wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar for Adelaide/Red
The oscars very rarely if ever take horror movies into consideration
ShaRutherford199 for real her acting was very impressive and it felt like it went unnoticed
Her and Bill Hader were screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewed by the academy.
D
I thought Elizabeth moss needed one for this movie with her crying to laughing acting it was so so good
As long as there are kills to count, we will always need you, James. Your content helped me survive every lockdown since 2020.
I mean technically every tethered holding hands counts as an off-screen kill
Moifi kea a But do think he has the sanity for that?
Hinka I think we can all agree with you on that
Oh wow that really is true XD
Wait does every one linked together mean that they killed there other self
Me yes, as soon as they kill their original self they go to link the chain
I honestly would watch a horror movie with James as the main character or an antagonist
In a crypt tv short James plays a character, I think it’s one of the looksee episodes
@@alexb8433 He plays a bandit in Looksee season 2
FireFoxx 379 Raymond. That was his name
I found it but it would be cool to see a full feature film.
Agree!!!
Two things are true:
1) every Kill Count cutaway is a treat.
2) this movie needs a sequel.
@Daniel Lugo True
Matthew Breen not true
@Daniel Lugo I'd prefer a prequel. There's not really anyway way to expand on this story (going forward) unless you focus on another family.
I think this movie is just fine on its own. I also want to see what other movies Jordan Peele makes than just continuing the story of us.
a sequel might ruin it tbh
