It's absolutely terrifying that they had to make Kurt such an unlikable character so people didn't want to be like him. They had to make him unlikable so people didn't decide to become mass murderers.
The more people we bring into this world, the more people fall into isolation and obscurity. As social animals, everyone wants to be loved and appreciated, but there's just so much competition now. It doesn't shock me that some people who aren't altogether mentally with it resort to drastic measures just to be noticed by a seemingly loveless and uncaring world. This notion isn't helped by how eager anonymous people are to egg them on, just because they can.
Jessie Adams was truly played to perfection. During the scene where Kurt literally shot his dad she turns around the camera to show her reaction, and even when she killed him (understandably and deservedly, he definitely needed to die), she puts her face next to his for content. Truly an influencer if I've ever seen one
@@lolicongang.4974 Definitely, she should've been charged with murder. I think she wouldn't if she had just hit him with the car, but the iphone part is just, yeah yiiiikes. Also I really hated the sound effect they used for the hitting part haha it sounded so weird

@@deathkorpswatchmaster2414 no one is doubting that you can find gore videos on the Internet. I've seen pletty of them. But the moment a video/livestream an active shooter is uploaded people will immidiately see the dangers and try to stop it. The new Zeeland shooting was a big event.

No, it’s pretty awful. The plot is flat-out unbelievable and the writing is not only plain bad but cringy. It’s not misunderstood- the lesson meant to be learned from it is good, everything else is laughably bad. If the point was to make an absolute shit movie, they succeeded.
First movie about social media I've ever seen that was clearly made by someone who bothered to do their research. I'm impressed with that at the very least.
@@samuelwoodward6567 Disagree, I don’t think unfriended did very well expressing social media. I mean hell, the main character didn’t even know what a troll was
@@samuelwoodward6567 Mmm maybe I suppose. I’ll give it there were SOME realistic points. Like then talking about Val behind her back and then changing up when she joined fair enough. But it missed so many things this film didn’t. Not knowing what trolls were, not knowing how to copy and paste with shortcuts, not knowing how a ‘glitch’ works, not knowing to close a tab before deleting it, trusting some random sketchy website and treating it as gospel, dirty times in a joinable group chat? Ehhh..
The part where Kurt asks Jessie how she grew her audience and she just responds with: “I’m... funny” is so important. People say “anyone can get famous nowadays” but the truth is most of the time it still goes back to natural charisma and likability - things that can’t be taught during in a single conversation in an Uber or in some random’s RUclips series (even if he *is* murdering people on camera)
Let’s be more honest, it comes down to attractiveness as well as charisma. Not anyone can be famous nowadays because of Social media algorithms for example: Charli D’amelio who copied dances from black tik tokers and got more famous than the originals or multiple other examples of just attractive teens who do and don’t know how to dance. People who aren’t the model definition of attractive have to show off their talents more or relatability. There’s also people who just get famous by being infamous like Kurt. I bet that if Kurt just tried to be a fuck boy on tik tok he would be somewhat famous at the least.
Spree was such a cool movie to watch. After I was done watching I had no idea how I felt about it. Joe Kerry did such a good job in that movie that it didn’t even seem like a movie it seemed as if I was watching a compilation of Kurt’s channel.
@@kevind3974 nope elliot rodgers is the worst comparsion when it comes to clout. He killed people because of his own twisted ideology where he blamed women.
i know it seems like his character is kind of out there but if you take into consideration that we're watching the mental breakdown of someone who has been out of touch with reality for years, his over the top behavior actually makes sense
The worst part is someone could or will actually try to do this sooner or later. There are people really that f*cked up in "trying to get internet fame."
@@Colin_Lawlor_Audio I mean isis is a terrorist group so that’s to be expected. Having a random person stream a murder who normally wouldn’t do that is strange.
The thing that makes this movie scary is that it’s realistic ish like it’s believable that someone would do things like this plus there’s no fantasy behind it no haunted dolls or demons just some random dude killing for fame-
It’s sad to think that if somebody actually did and got away with stuff like this in livestreams then a group of people on the internet would probably call them a “hero.”
i feel like the ending portrays this kind of stuff perfectly, not to villainize reddit or 4chan but they seem to have very large communities idolizing horrible people

honestly, I don’t blame DJ Uno for shooting the cop. She finds a gun, then drinks poisoned water, then she wakes up, probably disoriented as all hell, and sees two people standing in front of the car. Realizing one of them tried to kill her, and her vision probably blurry because she’s just waking up, she probably shot the first one she saw... which was unfortunately the cop and not Kurt.
i feel like they shouldve made it clearer that she didnt die immediately tho, then it just seems like she drank normal water and passed out for 30 seconds
I mean, that’s a really good point that I never thought of, don’t get me wrong, but I think that she shouldn’t even have the gun in her hands or on her person in the first place before she passed out, when I see a gun that isn’t mine I wouldn’t grab it or let alone pose with it without their permission, I think usually a normal person would leave the gun alone rather than tinker with it, there was no reason to grab the gun before she passed out, I also thought her snooping was rather abnormal, but I guess she was trying to find the water bottles, I don’t know, but I still think playing with the gun was rather idiotic. If she didn’t have the gun in her hand when she passed out, I think both her and the officer would possibly be alive, just speculating. But that’s just my opinion and my speculation, I could be right or wrong.
@@Vito_ScaIetta Well you're thinking as a logical person in this scenario. You're not thinking like a less than 25 year old female influencer. Gotta snoop around and see if you can't find anything that can give you some content. Shock value is what gets you them viewers :P
There's a lonelygirl15 referencing username at one point in the movie calling Kurt cute, so whoever was responsible for the chat on the livestreams knew what they were doing. i think his character isnt that unrealistic, hes been made fun of, tried very hard to become famous for 10 years, that kind of stuff can actually make people go crazy, sure the first two kills were kinda unrealistic but Mario being killed because Kurt lost an "opportunity to get famous" is very real for a person of his kind.
I love the fact one of the most realistic parts of the movie is the fact he gets memorialised on 4Chan. That's probably taken straight from Elliot Rodgers ey?

Okay, I agreed with James until I saw your comment, because then I just started thinking to myself "Oh shit, I do know people like that". So yeah. Kurt IS a believable character, and that's the scary part.
@Offkey Dreams WOW. That was definitely a read. After reading your article I did a little more wiki research. Holy crap. Like, holy crap, because THIS is an entirely real threat, because I can totally see people influencing and trying to make a person like Elliot Rodger snap and "go out in a blaze of glory for 'revenge'". I mean, social media and internet anonymity make it that much easier for soulless monsters to disconnect from reality and feel no responsibility for influencing these kinds of killings.
@Arnav Despande Oh yeah, for sure. I mean don't get me wrong, while people are capable of boundless love and kindness, humanity itself is a cruel species regardless of gender. And unfortunately some of us like to pick on the weak and different (especially those who have mental illness [as it is often said, people with mental illness are more likely to be the victim]) and manipulate them into doing these sorts of things just for sake of satisfying the curiosity of "Can I make them do it?". This is why I have the mentality of, "I like individual people, but I hate the human collective"
I kind of feel like the message wasn't directly social media is bad and you should break your phone. Jessie was explicitly punished for breaking her phone and her speech was just for looks as in the end she comes back almost immediately. The film is a critic of social media and how we're all too connected to it, but Jessie's speech wasn't the filmmakers trying to preach to the audience but rather a misguided LA wannabe star preaching in the heat of the moment.

The fact that Joe Keery just looked at the gun when there was no ammo was just funny
I bet that if Kurt just tried to be a fuck boy on tik tok he would be somewhat famous at the least.

honestly, I don’t blame DJ Uno for shooting the cop.
She finds a gun, then drinks poisoned water, then she wakes up, probably disoriented as all hell, and sees two people standing in front of the car. Realizing one of them tried to kill her, and her vision probably blurry because she’s just waking up, she probably shot the first one she saw... which was unfortunately the cop and not Kurt.
i feel like they shouldve made it clearer that she didnt die immediately tho, then it just seems like she drank normal water and passed out for 30 seconds
and she got a headshot ;)
Uno just wanted a kill streak

Yeah; ultimately, it feels like Jessie's speech was just performative. The moment she got an opportunity, she went right back.
