I feel like Ma is such a realistic villain. Driven by trauma she begins to enact her revenge. She doesn’t do anything that doesn’t make sense, she keeps her daughter home in fear of her suffering the same trauma she did at her age. And she just wants to have a normal high school experience so she gets it in with the teenagers at the local high school pretending to be one of them. This movie made me cry and it wasn’t undeserved it was so tragic seeing sue-Ann fall down a dark path due to past trauma inflicted upon her at to young an age.

Honestly, it's what makes her so UN realistic to me - I was intensely bullied during my school years in many of the ways that Ma does in this movie (blackmail, psychical bullying, coercion, mental bullying, sexual assault) and I can't imagine ever wanting to do that to someone else. Fun Fact: Octavia Spencer only said yes to being in this movie on the condition that her villain would be given a sympathetic backstory and at some level they gave her one which doesn't condone her actions but helps you understand them. yeah, I'd be the killer for a debut role, but not if I were already really famous like Octavia. horror movies reflect your morals, and I don't want to be seen like that
Can’t believe that Luke Evans who had been Gaston in the live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast” two years prior portrayed some kid’s father in this movie.
Trailers: Reveals the kill count for the movie. James: _Oh... More to add to the kill count I see..._ Edit: Wow... I didn’t honestly think this comment would get this many likes. Thank you all who did so!
The most unrealistic part of this movie was that the police officer both didn’t force himself inside Ma’s home and didn’t immediately pull out his gun when he heard screaming.
Wannabe Aussie Bruh, why must you be racist and... cops-ist I guess? Really though, I hope your comment was supposed to be a joke (it’s hard to decipher sarcasm with written text).
Wannabe Aussie You’re both wrong. The most unrealistic part is that the cop didn’t also shoot Jeanie, only for crowds on Twitter to say she shouldn’t have been living with a psycho, and should’ve reported her mother earlier.
I’m late but i realized some foreshadowing earlier in this movie. When the main character and wheel chair girl meet wheel chair girl says you’re a life saver, and maggie says you too. Seems like a normal embarrassing moment but at the end of the movie both of them save eachothers lives. I thought it was pretty cool :)
@@TonyCross2255 no...ma is like hello neighbor since ur not allowed in the house, she holds tons of secrets, and she keeps a gate that requires a key(keycard)🤔
Ma is the most realistic movie I've ever seen simply because of course there's nothing else for teenagers in rural Ohio to do other than beg strangers for booze
If it ain't funny to you, then it just ain't funny to you. That's not a hard concept to comprehend. But the way those two bickered, and the way the older woman said "You beeitch" so hard was HILARIOUS to me. Life is short, take the sticks out ya ass. 😘
I just realized that Andy doesn’t have a family now. His dad was killed by Ma from bleeding out and Ma also ran over Mercedes, who was Andy’s Dads girlfriend, so unless he has a grandmother or grandfather he can live with, he doesn’t have a family now.
2:40: That guy was also the Dean of the main character’s school in the last season of the Disney channel sitcom ANT Farm. What’s more, Andy is played by the kid who played Farkle, Minkus’ son in the Boy Meets World sequel, Girl Meets World, which was also on Disney Channel, and Octavia Spencer was a one-off villain in Wizards of Waverly Place. And with Luke Evans as Gaston, that’s at least four Disney connections in this film.
@@notkingali1798 Like... Barely. Yeah its toxic to ingest and makes toxic fumes but it doesn't cause deep tissue damage. It might leave an annoying rash and if it were really bad it could cause minor led poisoning, but it would certainly heal without much trouble. @@OldSwampo What would be worse is if his body would've been covered fully in paint so he'd suffocate but only his face was painted so yeah. Nothing bad.
this movie made me cry.. not because it was scary, mostly because it was sad. she was bullied all throughout high school, probably already had mental illness. they made it worse. she struggled and no body cared to help her. they just left her in the dark. she died alone, in that house. in a fire.
There is an alternate ending that revealed that Sue Ann actually survived the fire. Andy even said that they declared her dead even though they never found her body. But I guess alternate endings don't count for the kill count, do they?
@@crimberlies so ma got a letter from that kids dad in high school that said "hey you come into the closet after school" and then when she did what seemed like the whole school was there and like every boy in the entire school RAPED her, so yes very tragic and most of the people she killed deserved it.
He’s underused in every movie sadly due to his sexuality. You can’t have a gay leading action hero, you can’t have a gay sex scene, but he can still do roles where’s he’s a sleazy womanizer father. It sucks because he’s a really good actor
4:15 I love how James says that Randy's dad is the type of guy who eat 5 dozen eggs each morning, because the actor is the same actor who plays Gaston in the live action Beauty and the beast, and "Each morning I used to eat 5 dozen eggs" is one of the lyrics from his song. Nice refrence
Very weird to see the guy who played Farkle in Girl Meets World making out with an adult who just so happens to be a serial killer. Childhood *ruined.*
In my high school we actually had a dude like ma (obviously except the killing). He would buy beer for kids Juuls and even bought a kid a fuckin crossbow. This actually happened, the guy was super weird but I felt bad for him cause so many kids would take advantage of him.
Seems like she just wanted to be a cool kid she never was, hosting parties and acting all cool with other high-scoolers. And then they rebuffed her and that started her breakdown.
This movie is amazing It can disturb and scare you without many kills and tells a story of a broken begrudged woman who still is seething in rage after high school
This movie takes a while to build up the disturbing factors while being semi-realistic at the same time. Then suddenly it goes batshit insane but with very few kills. I love it.
I think MA was a good movie it showed how’d she slowly goes insane throughout the movie (Ik she was already insane with the pictures and the daughter) but she hadn’t started thinking of killing till she found who the number belonged to then she started to think and think till she finally snapped also I liked how MA showed the character as a on off switch it shows how nice people can be crazy on the inside
I think she’s hella dead, unless it’s a Freddy/Jason situation. I think what octavia Spencer meant was that she wasn’t one of the good guys who died in the first hour. Wouldn’t mind a sequel for this. It’d be nice to have a serial killer in a movie be a woman using brute force and brains rather than magic for once.
11:57 I smiled so widely and teared up a little when I saw the hat she was wearing. My mom, who passed away from cancer 2 years ago, had that exact same hat, and Ma looked so much like her in that shot.
