It was DELICIOUS knowing she was denied that part of it.
I don't think June will have a happy ending but I'm still wishing the end of last season implies Nick ans June get more time together. I ship them so bad
The very best part of your recap, and the reason that I stopped watching the show during season three: "90% of the show is close-ups of June's face." 😄 Elizabeth Moss probably demanded that in her contract, but, jeez, it nakes the series unwatchable! So, thank you for catching me up on the show!
@photonenplayer They didn't execute her in the book either. The ending was left up to interpretation when she got in that van. In the movie that came out in the 90's, she had somewhat of a happy ending because people on the outskirts of society, not controlled by Gilead, helped her and she lived there, pregnant, in a trailer with them. This series takes it further because they have the ability to do much more with more seasons, and instead of just giving her an ending they kept going with the story. The end of season 1 when her and the other handmaids are punished for disobeying, but not killed, is realistic in my opinion; they all disobeyed and it would be stupid for Gilead to kill them off when their whole purpose is control. It's not just "plot armor". Sure, there are instances where June was a lot luckier than most in terms of surviving, but she definitely paid the price for it in other ways and was tortured etc etc. The Waterfords didn't kill her because they needed her alive. Serena wanted the baby more than anything, and killing her would endanger her and Fred's place in society.

Great recap - thanks @Man Of Recaps. The show got really silly after series 1, then with June going back to the US - it's like they couldn't let the lame trope of the crazy deranged woman-on-a-mission-woman go.
I'm not gonna lie, I liked Emily's arc more than June's. I get that they tried to stay loyal to the source material for season one (season one is essentially the book), but once they moved beyond the source material, I wanted Emily to have much, much more screen time. I would have liked this show better if they hadn't been afraid to significantly change the focus of the narrative to other characters, and their struggles to survive, escape, and cope with the horrors that were put upon them. They could have done this while continuing to keep the resistance story going. Instead, we just got more and more plot armor for June, who if she were anyone else would have been dead long before season four. Now, on the eve of season five, it's just a cat and mouse thriller between June and Serena. On top of all that, there's fresh source material recently published by Margaret Attwood that carries the story forward, rather than focusing on just one protagonist. Homeland comes to mind with what I'm talking about. The Nick Brody arc was relatively short in relation to the rest of the series. I remember thinking the show wouldn't survive without Damien Louis. But, the mid to later season were the strongest of the series.
Yes! The series would be so interesting if it maintained the vibe Atwood set of people just vanishing, giving up on resisting or getting moved away as soon as they revealed anything interesting, to maintain the feeling that the eyes were always there and every tiny bit of info was a miracle! Swapping between main characters to focus on their struggles and specific dehumanisation would have been fascinating, especially seeing old names on paperwork or season arcs being referenced as “incidents” to new characters.
I'm pretty sure it was Fred who arranged the meeting between Hannah and June in season two. At this point Nick was still just a driver, not yet a commander
Just finished watching season 5, I really liked it, I like where the show is going, and I will definitly be there for season 6. June still got a massive plot armor, tho, and I hope the show will not become one of these show who should have ended way before, you heve to know when and how to end a story.

You are the best at this. I so appreciate you!
Thanks! You're the real MVP.
I ended up only watching the recaps instead of watching the actual show lol
That was an awesome recap! Save me hours of my life because I really do love the show but I don’t have time.
Ever since I saw your peaky blinders video I love your content👍
That's also how I found your channel 👍
I was gonna watch this show, but it bummed me out to much after a couple of episodes. Thx for the recap!
You're really good at this. Thank you!
Doing god's work, Man of Recaps.
I'm pretty sure it was Fred who arranged the meeting between Hannah and June in season two. At this point Nick was still just a driver, not yet a commander
Thank you for this. Did not want to watch all that from start to finish lol
Just finished watching season 5, I really liked it, I like where the show is going, and I will definitly be there for season 6. June still got a massive plot armor, tho, and I hope the show will not become one of these show who should have ended way before, you heve to know when and how to end a story.
Thank you for this recap. 🙏
What a good recap!
