As a British guy i only know his work on prisoner but watching a recent subscribed channel called prisoner connections hes done so many roles and its funny seeing how many prisoner actors hes worked with previously and after prisoner. Superb interview and so captivating to listen to. Many thanks.
@@TalkingPrisoner When Val Lehman(Top Dog Queen Bea Smith) left Prisoner Cell Block H the show wasn't the same without our Bea. What actually happened to Bea. I'm curious I know that on the order of Joan "The Freak" Ferguson(Maggie Kirkpatrick) Bea was apparently transferred to where exactly. Was it back to Barnhurst or to Blackmoor prison. I don't know but I read it in the episode description of Bea Smith's last scene she was transferred somewhere but don't know where. Our Queen Bea Smith didn't die like it was described. Do you know anything about Val's final scene on Prisoner where Joan "The Freak" Ferguson had Bea transferred to another prison or killed off I just needed to what happened to our Queen Bea after the transfer to another prison elsewhere.
I'm glad Gerard spoke about Jim losing his family. I thought Jim got over losing his wife and kids far too quickly. He returned to work as if it didn't happen. He's right, it was hardly mentioned again.
Met Gerard at a Prisoner event in Birmingham, he seemed like such a nice guy, very down to earth and even managed to fit back into his original officer uniform and did a photo op for the fans. I hear he's not in the best of health right now so wishing him all the best and for a speedy recovery.
Really enjoyed this interview with Gerard.great performance as Jim fletcher.shame he never stayed longer and became governor.well done again Ken and Matt.
Thank you for reading out my question guys. Great interview with the delectable Gerald, who I had the privilege of meeting back in Birmingham alongside Val & Fiona in 2009. Such a generous & giving guy. He wore his original uniform. Top bloke.
Great Australian actor - I have purchased the Matlock Police DVDs from Crawford, really good to see Gerard in that show good childhood memories.. I really like his acting and stage presence he had in prisoner. Thanks for the interview. I have been catching up on these and really good to see Gerard looking and doing well enjoying his life.
Just rewatched this interview with Gerard. Wonderful to hear his recollections of Prisoner, beginning of his career and what he is doing now. Beautiful memories of Sheila Florance. Thanks guys.
Currently on episode 227, so coming to the end of Jims time, wish he stayed longer. Lovely to see Gerard 40 years on, I was wondering what he was upto now and hearing his stories of his time on Prisoner.
@Talking Prisoner Oh yeah, it was a great run. I'm actually watching the series now. I'm up to about episode 263. So Jim Fletcher has only just left Wentworth. It's a shame because he had some great storylines in the 240s and 250s - he stood up to Douglas, turned into James Bond during the Sandy Edwards riot and he had a "bunny boiler" storyline with Janet. I think other characters have run their course by now, but there were more things to do with Jim.
Episodes 247-249 were the first three episodes aired in Melbourne in 1982. According to the Melbourne newspaper The Age, episode 247 was filmed in August 1981.
Never watched this when you posted it about 2 years ago due to health issues of which I'm still fighting. I really enjoyed this brilliant interview with Gerard Maguire, I hope you will do many more interviews with the original customers/officers of Wentworth Detention Center in 2024, my favourite interviews you've done so far are Val Lehman, Maggie Kirkpatrick, Glenda Linscott and Jane Clifton.
Respectfully, I would not have recognised him AT ALL BUT Then he speaks!!!! That voice is exactly the same Iconic! Seems to be a lovely human Fletch the letch (who wasn’t even a letch lol) is such an important part of Prisoner Great character
Yes. His storyline when lovely Edith was put in prison. It turned out shed lost her best friend. Because of her age. Jim was gentle and caring. It was incredible acting from all the cast. The scipt was beautifully written. And emotionally played.
Thanks for doing and uploading - really fascinating and that two hours flew by!! Whenever I’m in Melbourne, I’ve always taken flowers to Sheila’s grave and toasted her with a miniature. Hope the great interviews keep coming!
Another brilliant episode. These are fantastic. Looking forward to more. Love the dynamic of having Ken and Matt. It's wonderful in this episode to hear Kens stories from behind the camera and the actors stories Infront, but even more so of relationships and friendships behind the scenes. Truly brilliant guys and thank you
Just watched Jim Fletcher's second episode (episode 41) again, and yes, that was a close shave with the delivery van almost running over his head that Gerard spoke about! The unfortunate thing is that this real-life death defying stunt was only partially caught in the bottom right corner of the screen.
I've only just come across these talking Prisoner videos. I was thinking how does Gerard think the character Jim Fletcher would have found Joan Ferguson.
What a nice guy. I always liked his character but, obviously, actors play characters very differently to themselves- as I've found from all these interviews (and working in the industry for 35 years) - that you like the characters then find the actors are twats in real life. But Gerard is one where the character is as nice as the real guy. 👏🎭
A good early Talking Prisoner interview. While Gerard looks well, I wouldn't have recognised him as Jim Fletcher these days. But like Fletch, Gerard does seem to have a soft spot for the ladies (in a healthy way) based on his story on how he got into acting! So I'm now wondering if it was Fletcher who used to fancy some of the Prisoner inmates and eye up the gorgeous receptionist Julie, or Gerard himself?? 😉
Fletch wasn't a letch though, so I never understood that nickname. Gerard is right. He was homophobic and that's not to be shrugged off although I don't think his motivations were malevolent even in that, he genuinely thought (wrongly) that lesbians were taking the wrong path in life.
It seemed like they needed sth to rhyme with Fletch. I think he was given that name before sleeping with the ex prisoner he conned to get reward money.
Shame the writing for his character was awful Im just on like ep 120 now and have to keep reminding myself that his entire family was murdered only a matter of days ago. Sooooo bad the writing in that show SOMETIMES. Its good mainly tho
As a British guy i only know his work on prisoner but watching a recent subscribed channel called prisoner connections hes done so many roles and its funny seeing how many prisoner actors hes worked with previously and after prisoner. Superb interview and so captivating to listen to. Many thanks.
Really enjoyed this interview with Gerard - I’m not surprised he’s doing voice-over work now. What soothing tones he has!
Thank you.

"Ahhh Mr Fletcher, you naughty boyyy!" hahahahaa brilliant!! this was so good, what a lovely bloke, who seems ageless! xx
It was a very funny story
That was hilarious.

Great interview with Gerard.
Good insight into the workings of Prisoner.
Respectful of his fellow actors. Great quality.
Thanks Craig.
Fantastic interview. Prisoner is such a classic show and Gerard was great.
Being the first male officer on the show it was interesting to see how it would work, I loved Gerard on Prisoner, did you enjoy that era ?

Thanks Peter, What do you think of the other episodes so far ?
Brian Thau also directed T Bag the kids' show from the UK from the early 80s
Such a gentleman, really enjoyed this one and eager to see who else you guys have lined up.
We have many more cast and crew lined up.

i love this
We are happy to hear that.
Pity there hasn't been an interview with Nigel Bradshaw ...
Never say Never 😀
@@TalkingPrisoner sounds hopeful ... and any plans to catch up with Amanda Muggleton ?
Fletch the Letch is what the girls and lady prisoners called Deputy Governor Jim Fletcher.
He still has his sexy smile.
His voice sounds completely different

Is Leigh Spence Fiona's brother?
Fletch the Letch!
jim was a hottie in prisoner
''wool classer'' when Sheep are jailed, tortured for their wool before they`re murdered.
It seemed a bit awkward when Ray Meagher was mentioned. ''They gave him a whole bloody show after that''. Perhaps some jealousy there?
Shame the writing for his character was awful
