  • Victims’ families get their final say in court prior to the sentencing of the Parkland school shooter. The statements follow a nearly three-month trial, after which a jury of seven men and five women could not unanimously agree on the death penalty for the convicted killer, resulting in a life sentence.

the judge did just what he asked of her. she made it where he can not profit from his crime in the media, she also ruled that his defense fees come out of his commissary. He will not ever see a pack of ramen noodles. She also barred any crazed fans of his out there from being able to put money on his books or write him. she couldn’t hand the death penalty herself but she did everything she could to make his sentence worse . Irrelevant, as the legal factors that determine whether somebody is sentenced to death are many and vary greatly from State to State, Judge to Judge, Jury to Jury. While on trial for Rape, Brian Nichols (black) overpowered a guard and murdered the Judge presiding over his case, the court reporter, and a Sherrif before escaping. Despite the system's best efforts he managed to dodge a death sentence and the jury gave him LWOP. Death Sentences are not weighed against one another to determine if the punishment fits the crime.

There’s such tragedy that one person’s miserable existence no matter how it came to be, has ripped from so many people’s lives the light and love the victims created in THEIR lives. There is no way in my mind how, given that undeniable fact, the jurors could say their collective loss of light didn’t outweigh the void of any of what is right in this world in NC. If ever there was an utterly overwhelming and plainly obvious unbalance it absolutely was this. The jurors who disagreed with the death penalty for him were NOT basing it on the FACTS presented, or NC himself. They obviously were using their “moment” to show that they were so virtuous that they could never vote for death. Why do I think that? Because this was a case where one and one makes two and the jury said, one and one makes five. By their own statements in the verdict documents, to anyone listening, the outcome follows to recommend death. But it DIDN’T ADD UP. They felt their moral compass outweighed the needs of the forever suffering survivors and victims families. And they took a page from that coward NC’s playbook, and they made a self-righteous self-serving decision and re-victimized those families.

I do not know what faith you are, but no faith I know of would want a believer to wish death on someone, no matter who it is so you can take out "In God we trust" you hypocrite. I am not supporting nor condemning what he did but I am tired of self-righteous people like you.

@@garrettgrimes9656 First of all I didn’t wish death on him, so you need to learn how to read. I have a right to my opinion & so do you. In God I do trust & justice will be prevailed. If he accepts Jesus, repents and turns his life around God will forgive him, but we all reap what we sow. FYI, the real hypocrite is in your mirror.

@Eddvel They are expressing themselves and you will find a therapist would say it is a perfectly natural and expected to have a level of anger and they have the right to express it towards the murderer of their daughter after four and a half years. Hence the reason they have the right to by the legal system.
Please note the parents have created a foundation to create change. That is how they use their experience to try to change the world for the better.

I have to disconnect from my emotions completely not to spend days angry with that jury for sparing that guy's life. Our present reality for the last 2 years is being concerned with the criminal, the victimizer ,the murderer and what's good for them. Not only did they cheapen the value of those 17 people that were killed, by letting the perpetrator live, they spit in the faces of the families who suffered the loss of their loved one who is guilty of absolutely nothing but going to school. Furthermore, anyone that's convicted of killing any less than this guy did now has a legal precedent that will be the basis of an appeal and maybe a commuting of sentence on what ought to be a capital punishment crime. The defense team discussed me with the way they attempted to blame shift and flip things around. They were so pathetic by pretending that they were victims. I'm glad I wasn't in that courtroom.

Sadly he won’t be put in gen pop, so honestly I don’t know where the families get that he will “suffer” ! Defense made it clear he won’t for his “safety”! So to the victims..I know it’s painful and unjust but you have to come to terms that even in jail THERE WILL NOT BE ANY JUSTICE! Unless judge orders gen pop.

My prayers go also to the ones that got injured I can just imagine the pain they had to endured at such a young age. Life is so unfair but i hope all of you feel in your hearts that you are loved for so many people all around the world although we don’t know you. God bless you all. God blessed the judge n the lawyers that stood up for justice n let the lord blessed the defense lawyers. I admire them they had the guts to defend someone who committed such a horrible n senseless crime. God bless everyone expressing their feelings since cases like this affect all of us. Thank u
