I hear a lot of people say that he showed no emotion. Let's say he started crying during some of the victims impact statements then I'm sure that they would perceive him as pathetic or feeling sorry for himself. Do you expect him to stand up and adress the court and say I'm ashamed of my self and my actions and I understand your hate towards me and you have every right to hate. Even if he did that he would have been perceived negatively because in a case as horrific and big as this you can't win as a defendant. If you cry your pathetic and feeling sorry for your self if you apologize and say your sorry it will be perceived as fake or disingenuous. So him not showing emotion other than when this angel of a humanbeing spoke is very understandable. It has nothing to do with being cold without emotion.

Her grief, as the girlfriend of a victim, is a very different type of grief, than what those parents are experiencing. It is one thing to lose a friend or boyfriend, it is an entirely different kind of heartache to bury your child. It's not that she's doing anything right or wrong, or that she's figured out something the other family members have not, she simply is not faced with the extreme grief of losing a child in such a violent way. I'm not trying to minimize her pain at all, but it is simply a fact that different losses hurt at different magnitudes, and the magnitude of her loss simply doesn't compare to that of losing a child, or even the loss of a sibling or of a parent. It's not any less valid, it's just different, and it makes it a bit easier to cope with

I recognized this young lady was so special, as was the connection She & Joaquin had. When I viewed the video of her face painting him for a school event. They hadn’t even gone out yet. But Oh my the way he looked at her! She said at the time, that was it. There was no other. And he told her later, he knew she was the one.
And seeing her give this incredible statement. Just shows what can happen, when someone has been loved and treasured. Compared to someone who hasn’t (the shooter).
I only hope, that Joaquin’s parents, can one day find a way to move on from this tragedy. Being a Mom myself, I understand & empathize with their anger & pain.

Victoria, from this statement, all your previous statements, watching your journey through the documentary and watching you create a memorial garden at the high school; I am in awe of you.... It is the human form to feel angry, and seek revenge, thats normal for humans, and ok (everyone has the right to be angry and say what they need to say) But to rise above and use tragedy and transform it into even more love is an incredible gift. I know this statement will be the one that he thinks about at night. I know people may be upset for the kindness you showed; but that is okay. As you said, Joaquin is love AND SO ARE YOU. Grief is the final act of love, I wish you peace and happiness and that you receive some of the light you pour into others.... Beautiful, beautiful girl. Beautiful boy. I hope every memory of Joaquin sings melodies of peace and comfort to your soul, eternally.

Because she is right he is not a monster or a creature , but a humanbeing who happened to have committed a series of very horrific crimes and must face up to the consequences of his actions life without parole is the right sentence in this case.

Life can be a weak sentence in a case like this because he doesn't deserve it. It doesn't reduce the crime rate by always keeping them alive because if they know the worst they can get for shooting at a bunch of innocent kids is a life sentence some of them will think they can just keep doing it. In some case living homeless is a worse sentence then that this is why I think he got off to easy.

It's still baffling. We all need to see people, give them a kind word, and say hello, and not bully or use people for our own insecure pump-up.
