What a lot don't know is what Universal was planning at one point for the 2003 re-release. They planned to change all of the 80s songs with rap songs that were popular at the time to try to make it more "hip", however DePalma himself stopped it saying the soundtrack was perfect as it was. However that still didn't prevent Universal from making an entirely new sound mix composing of a bunch of new sound effects (most noticeable with gunshots and such), this remix is the one that's included on all blu-ray releases and the newer 4K release. But thankfully if you go to the audio options and switch to "English 2.0" you'll get the original theatrical sound mix.

In a weird way, I can imagine how Glenn Close would’ve handled the role of Elvira. I feel as if she would’ve given the character more of a crazed and neurotic side, especially during the dinner fight scene. I’m glad they went with Michelle Pfeiffer, though.

A few other interesting tidbits, the whistling from the original movie is actually based off of Tony Accardo, who ran the Chicago Mob after Capone. Accardo was known to beat people to death with a bat but before he would start his attack he would whistle. The beginning of the 1983 version is based off of a real event. While the movie is fictional in the beginning they are part of the Mariel Boatlift (or Cuban Boatlift) which occurred between April and October on 1980. Lastly, the shower scene where the man was cut up with a chainsaw is based off of stories of how some South American drug lords would have people killed.

    • @insertuselessname

That's interesting cause when he said whistle before he attacks it made me think about Batman & Robin tv show from 60s, the Joker played by Cesar Romero used to do the whistle and Jack Nickleson even emitted doing a dedication in the movie Batman to Caesar Romero whistle, if only Caesar was still around to ask if that's were he got idea for the Jokers whistle. The "Here's Johnny" line was itself a pop culture reference, so if they remade The Shining, that would probably be a good line to put there.

Have not checked all comments but one of the most important things and likable things about Tony is his affection for children. We see this at least three times: once at the pool when he establishes easy rapport with the kid when his pal is about to approach the woman; then when he asks Michelle about her wanting kids; and finally, when his refusal to allow the murder of a car with a woman and kid(s) to be bombed which of course leads to his death. I don't know if his liking kids is a fatal flaw but it is central to the character -- do not know if this aspect was present in original.

First time I saw this was in a nightclub in the Philippines (during the day before the place got lively) totally uncut and I was completely sold. My favorite movie for many years after that.

Scarface was the most accurate depiction of cuban refugees ever. Nothing in the film was false or exaggerated.

Awesome Minty. Such a great movie. Thanks for the 10 things list. 😎👍
There's also a PlayStation 2 game I've enjoyed really much. It acts as a sequel to the film, as a "what if" Tony survived revenge plot in the style of Grand Theft Auto.
Anyways, keep up the great work. ✌

When scarface was being made The Cuban people hated the movie they thoughts Scarface depicted Cubans negatively, after the movie came out the Cubans praised tony Montana and became their hero.

This movie is the inspiration and fascination of almost every black teenager in the USA, virtually every famous rapper and gangster has a poster of Tony Montana in their bedroom, one of them even took the name "Scarface" as his stage name.

Thanks for the video and all the facts. Even though Spielberg isn't my favourite director, having him directing a shot of the best scene in the movie is an awesome piece of information. By the way SCARFACE translates literally to Spanish as CICATRIZ CARA, an interpretation is necessary here, which gives us the actual name the movie is known for in Latin America CARA CORTADA not CARA CICATRIZ as the guy calls Tony Montana in the chainsaw scene. Cheers and greetings from Bolivia 🇧🇴🍻

One of the reasons I loved GTA Vice City so much was the Scarface references. Tommy Vercetti kills someone with a chainsaw and the mansion he takes is modeled after Tony Montana's mansion, down to the surveillance tvs in his office.

Another interesting and tragic tidbit: the young lady in the bikini seen at 4:50 had her own segment on one of the early seasons of Unsolved Mysteries. She was an up and coming model/actress from Florida and had a breakdown on the set of Scarface. She vanished shortly after returning home and her case remains unsolved to this day.

Great video and quite a bit of info I never knew about. Good job. Subbed!
PS. regarding the reference to "scarface" in Spanish, I didn't know that translation but I always thought that, when he is being interrogated/interviewed in the first 5-6 minutes, the cop puts his finger on his face and asks him when he got the scar. That's where I honestly thought was the only reference to "Scar face" but it's actually "where did you get the beauty scar tough guy". Thanks for schooling us Scarface fans! 🤜🏽🤛🏽
PSS. When I would walk around town back in the years after this movie and if someone wasn't using the F bohmb, I'd know they never saw this fantastic movie and live a sheltered f-ing life. LOL 🤙🏽 Cockaroaches.
