Minty, as a kid, my friend convinced me to see die hard in the 80s. my first reaction to him was "you mean the guy from moonlighting? are you nuts?" he promised me that it was a great movie and he wanted to see it again. as i watched it for the first time, i was BLOWN AWAY. there was "david addison" being such a bad ass and being so funny, it took half the film for me to finally shed the moonlighting motif and accept willis as the action hero of the 80s.

At first, when you mentioned the alternative title names in different countries, I thought maybe the hungarian one is in the list too, and that was the first on your list. :D
As a hungarian, I see the connection between "die hard" and "give your life expensive".
We have a really colorfull language , and have a lot of synonyms for the same thing. The exact translate would be "Halj nehezen" , which sounds really wierd in hungarian.
But " Drágán add az életed " sounds much more better. It means the same , if you have to fight for your life , if someone would like to kill you or someone would like to took your life away , you have to give it at a high cost. (expensive)
    I hope that I could help. :)

The main reason Bruce Willis was not on the poster was because when the trailer came out and Bruce was on screen, the audience laughed and some even said they were booing. 20th Century Fox took him off the poster until the movie came out and it was a big hit, then Fox put him back on the poster.

The book was written entirely from the perspective of Joe Leland. Not that it was written by Leland, but every single page, every paragraph, every line, was with Leland. So you only knew what he knew. You found things out as he found them out.
And I thought this worked great. Especially how it worked with him getting most of his information over the radio, from the police or from some CB enthusiast who had managed to hack into their channel and offer support for him.
Also in the book, when Leland tapes the gun behind his back, Gruber knows about it instantly, catching Leland off guard. They have their little shootout, Gruber gets his hand stuck in Lelands daughters watch (the watch that the creepy cocaine addict bought her), and he actually pulled her over the edge, killing both of them. Quite a nasty ending, really dark. And it worked.

So Bruce Willis is playing a character from a book that Clint Eastwood purchased the film-making rights to that was a sequel to another book which was adapted into a movie with Frank Sinatra playing the original John McClane character.. okay, got it.

    • @scottknode898
      @scottknode898 5 лет назад +5

Clint Eastwood did purchase the rights to the novel Nothing Lasts Forever which Die Hard is based from. Eastwood had planned to star in the film adaptation early in 1980s. Bruce Willis took the role after Robert De Niro has turned down the role in 1987 during pre production. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Don Johnson, and John Travolta were all considered for John McClane. Ironically 4 of those actors went to star in The Expendables series with Bruce Willis.

Actually Minty, in Japan the no shoes thing is more cultural. Whenever you are invited in someone's apartment over there, you must take off your shoes. So maybe that's why they put more emphasis on McClaine not wearing shoes.

I am old enough to have seen Die Hard in the theater on its opening weekend. It was the day after I lost something, I won't say what, but the girl involved with me losing said thing worked at the theater, and that's something that nobody knows about Die Hard, but me. And, anybody reading this comment. Wow, that was awkward, never mind that. Merry Christmas everybody. Merry Christmas Minty!

I saw this before the Hollywood premier at a sneak preview in Phoenix, AZ. Bruce and the director were in the back of the theater which we didn't know until we saw it on the news the next day. My best friend was interviewed for the local news and gave it a great review. I remember telling my friends "just go see it" for the next 2 weeks at work.

Fun fact: The reason why it is such a big deal in Japan for the "no shoes" thing is because in their culture, showing anyone the bottom of your feet (shoes or not) was like saying to someone "you are lower than dirt." Or putting a middle finger in their face. Oh well lol.

I remember the first time I saw an ad for the film, my exact reaction was "Bruce Willis in an action movie?" It of course, turned out very well for Bruce. Would really be interesting to see if the same would have happened for Richard!

"Je huid duur verkopen" is a Dutch expression - which literally means "sell your skin expensive". It means you'll (probably) lose, but it will come at a very high price (to your opponent) - say Pyrrhic victory high. BTW, here it was released as "Die hard", so I can't imagine the expression originated in Holland.

Goldstar Minty moment lol Also great sign off dude., you're right ... well.... this time four years ago hehe..... up, up, up. And the reason your vids work so well and have that great energy is because you you love making
also noticed how your background mvie artifacts n stuff grows n grows......
I been watching your vids for near three years now. They're really fkn good dude!
And hey, at start of 2020 I moved into that Ambassodor Place in Franga and moved out 30 days later, swear to god I thought I saw you across other side of Nepean walking away from the mall. Couldnt tell but it was the sunnys that made me sure sure.
Was gonna yell out but.... yeah..... was in Frankston....... some dude running around yelling out "Minty, Minty" woulda probably seen men in white coats chasing me round lol
Living in North Melb now and been on a "Minty Marathon" last .... well...... month? lol
You do a honesly good job dude. Editing, music (Minty Music gets stuck in my head at weirdest times round melb, one time it was on the gravatron in luna park. going round and round an for some reason I couldnt get Mintys theme song outta me head...... it helped me keep my shit together and not start crying and lose my shit lolols
Plus ayou always choose the best 10 things to list, sometimes I click on a vid and go "okay, minty will cover this thing and this thing and this thing about this movie" and you list ten things about the movie I never heard before in other places, that's the addictive hook to ya vids I reckon.... Minty Theme song and Mintys 10 things.... lol
You had me LOL'ing for real heaps of times but sometimes it gets to serious giggles.
BTW...... when youi say "Seeya" at the end and ..... dive towards the floor..... where are you going? Is there a trap door down there? Stairs to the wine cellar? Whats down there Minty! I must know!! lolol
Noticed you have a video store? Blockbuster Franga?? How much for a membership card? lol
Actually, not a bad idea.... Minty Membership Cards..... annual fee? Get a showbag with sunnies, the best of mintydvd, a bloopers reel, and a pack of mintys....
Taking a wild guess here dude..... i think were bout the same age..... did you buy chance alway buy a pack of minties at the canteen in high school or something dude? hehe... Melbourne nick name like Minty is usually cause you were the guy at school who always had a pack of minties and where ever you went, people would get a free minty hehe..... lucky duck, cool nick name
my last names Noble.... I copped "Noballs" all through out high school.......wasn't to bad...... hated it when the girls would call me "noballs" though.... I'd just try turn it into a cricket refrence lol
okay, this now ends my novel that is called "Mintys 10 things"..... yeah, might rethink that title hey lolol
you're a legend dude, don't ever stop making these vids, sometimes i think "oh no! I think mintys running outta movies!".... but it aint ever gonna happen..... Minty Marathon goes on. lol
peac eout brother! Melbourne represent! Ya make us proud!!
Ever thought about doing new release 10 things? like the new matrix and stuff, strike while the irons hot na ll.... I know you have of course had this thought, just puttin it out there..... your view count kicks ass dude. You got a couple million hits, my videos have been out 5-6 years. highest view count is like 5000 lol
fkn sucks having a video out for 6-7 years and it's got like 24 views........ feels like failing fingerprinting class in kindergarden...... "L" the forehead lol
man, i'm knackered now.... i never typed this many words ever in my life lol....
