lol. this was the same for me. My mom and older brother would watch it together after i had to go to bed. I would be laying in bed and would hear the theme song and wanted to go down and watch it with them so badly!
It was a massive success. We all loved it back then. Granted, as it often happens with series, it clearly went on for too long to keep up interest and good quality. Plus, actors run the risk of being stuck in their characters, and not move on with their careers. Snow's theme is a masterpiece, and still rocks today. it simply became synonymous with mystery, spooky, aliens, conspiracy, etc. The intro, both sonically and visually, pays homage to the old TV shows like - obviously - The Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond, etc., especially the '80s version of TTZ. TRUST NO ONE! For real, not a joke.
The X-Files was magical. I was in the 4th grade when season 1 first debuted. I remember talking with one of my classmates every week about last nights episode and what could be next. We both loved that show and were so excited and could not wait to talk about it the next day.
Interesting fact : the pilot episode of the Lone Gunman was a plot to uncover a conspiracy to hijack an airliner and fly it into the World Trade Center. The episode aired in March 2001, six months before the 9/11 attacks. The truth is out there.
Thanks Minty. Great episode. As a 90's kid as well, I remember this as being one of the quintessential "have to be home at a certain time to watch" shows. Heck, I bet you remember having every day of the weeks day and time mapped out for all of your favorite shows like the rest of us 90's kids did! Keep up the great work, and thanks again mate. Your true fans really appreciate you.❤👊
A Minty video on The X-Files? But, Minty, it's not even Christmas yet! I've rewatched this show many times over, and it's still one of my all-time favorites. Pretty much every single sci-fi or horror show that's come out in the last 30 years has been influenced by The X-Files. Still one of the best written, directed, and acted shows ever. Thanks to this video, I think that I'll have to have another rewatch before the end of the year. Thank you for all of the fantastic content, Minty!
X files was my favorite show in the 90s, along with Beyond Belief and Outer Limits. There was something magic about the 90s when the world was still mostly analog and so many things unknown.
I was absolutely addicted to watching the X-Files! I also used to love watching the night stalker when I was younger. And it was good that he made a cameo on the show that was inspired, in some part, by his show.👏🏼
We love you Minty, please keep creating, for real , there is not another channel that makes the nostalgic this entertaining, I love your collection and interests, seriously, I look forward to your content, somehow it’s always something I want to know more about!
He makes so many videos where you say to yourself 'I love that movie' or 'I remember that show.' So many nostalgic pieces that he brings so much fun to. He puts in the effort and digs out out great facts, not just the ones that everyone knows. What I like most is how much respect he shows for things.
I mean he missed talking about Vince Gilligan directing a bunch of the episodes and missed talking about a whole lot of information really I get that it was just some 10 countdown thing, but yeah. As a true fan of the show, it just left me feeling meh 🤷♀️
Used to love watching this in the UK during the 90s. It was in a great Thursday night slot (i think) that also used to also have The Outer Limits, red dwarf, quantum leap..
I loved X-Files. The show also taught me a few things about the limits of TV shows and what happens when they want to continue forever (spoilers: diminishing returns). Rewatching the first two seasons reminded me of how powerful the show was in its early days.
So, so true. Always retire as a winner. I also watched the first 2 seasons again a few months ago, and could not help keeping on watching, unlike current series which bore me to death after 5 minutes ;)
Best show ever. I'm afraid I already knew all that sruff, but then I'm a complete X-Files obsessive. I managed to meet David, Gillian and Chris Carter. I thanked Chris for the show and told him how much it meant to me. It isn't true that David and Gillian didn't like each other. They were working together so much, (14 hour days, 6 days a week,) that they would get on each other's nerves. They became very good friends later on. I have seen them together and their regard for each other is obvious - plus that famous chemistry is still there! 👍👽
I can believe it got tense. I knew a couple that were married and ran a business together. They hired a high level manager for a big chunk of the work when their relationship started to suffer. Glad you got to thank Chris, you spoke for a lot of us.
My favorite episode is Bad Blood from season 5. The same story told from Mulder and Scully’s point of view. Luke Wilson as the town sheriff and The Great Hambino Patrick Renna as Ronnie the vampire pizza delivery guy. It’s a weird horror/comedy mash up, always reminded me of Tales From The Crypt.
Probably my favorite guest star episode lol. I liked how when Moulder was telling the story, Luke Wilson's cop character would have buck teeth and act a bit like a doofus, but when Skully was the story teller, the cop looked and acted normal (maybe even a bit of a charmer? 😅). Wonderfully written, directed, and acted.
One of my all-time favorite shows ever I’m actually re-watching it now I was like I need to rewatch at least one more time & another great video good sir thank you
My all-time favorite show! The theme is even my notification sound. I've watched every episode since the pilot, saw both movies at midnight opening day, went as Scully for Halloween twice, have the entire series on DVD before streaming was a thing, and if I ever have another son his name will be Fox. 😂 This show holds so many memories of watching it with my dad each Sunday. But I completely agree that after Mulder left, the magic wasn't there.
I loved the X-Files as a kid, I remember the demon episode where he try’s to have a “normal” child but always ends up with a demon spawn then scares the mother nearly to death so she has a miscarriage until he meets another woman who is a demon as well only he doesn’t know it and she doesn’t play his games she knows them and just wants a child of her own. What always amazed me was how calm Moulder and Scully where when they finally figured out the plot of the show and it’s just everyday life for them.
Not sure if I am the biggest fan of the X-files Ever! Couple of things to add. 1. Sometime in the mid 90s there was a local radio station that was offering prizes if you put an X in your window and they saw it. 2. There was one episode of Home Improvement that had Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson play the characters and they referred to Tim Allen as ABC Mulder. An excellent and whitty play on the Fox name but Home Improvement was on ABC. 3. Jillian Anderson in real life is a believer of possible alien life. She actually narrated several shows about the universe and possible intelligent life. However, David Duchovny is a skeptic non-believer! 4. David had an eye injury from a baseball as a kid and had some issues with his iris. In order to look normal for closeups and filming he would wear a contact lense. You can sometimes see it when the light hits it right. 5. Occasionally I still put a masking tape X in my window. Crazy? Maybe, but I still believe...LOL.😮 I was beside myself when they did the reboot of the X-files. I miss the show so much!! I hope they re-boot it one more time for good measure.
Hi Minty, so happy to see you back in my recommendations again. I loved the X-files for its weird atmosphere and the two main characters. Not as crazy as Twin Peaks, but still highly entertaining.
Fun fact about The Lone Gunmen, the pilot episode had a government agency planning to hijack an airliner and fly it into the World Trade Center and then blame anti-American terrorists. It aired in March of 2001. Conspiracy at its finest. I was in high school when The X-Files premiered and we all watched on Friday nights. I remember working on a project for one of my glasses and my partner and I would be on the phone though the whole episode talking about what was happening and then talk about the project during the commercial breaks. lol. Duchovny forcing production to move to LA in season 7 was a terrible idea. It changed the whole tone of the show and it just went downhill from there.
It was a show with some amazing first few seasons, and to me it wasn't the same when they quit filming in Vancouver. Episodes like Gender Bender (1994) just had everything going for it with, with Mulder and Scully in those weird, rainy Canadian locales along with Mark Snow's eerie music. It was never quite the same when they changed locations.
Yep, I noticed that difference (though couldn't put my finger on it). It also made sense why they started having a lot of the stories set in the southern US regions, where they had actual desert and dry/arid areas for filming locations.
I loved the rainy cloudy mood of the early shows but it didn't always work. The one that makes me laugh to this day was Humbug it was the one with all the side show people and was set in Gibsonton Florida. I live about 10 miles form there and it looked nothing like the area let alone Florida. Best part was the ocean they showed had rock we don't have rocks here.
How many recall the one episode where there were no monsters, paranormal, or aliens---"The Amazing Maleeni". Two magicians conspire to frame an old adversary, and obtain the means to electronically embezzle funds. The entire episode is one, great, misdirection.
Great timing putting this video out Minty! I’ve been rewatching X-Files on Netflix and I’m halfway through season 5.It’s still my all time favorite series!
Oh, TXF, how I love you. I find it funny how Home was considered to be too far, while it is one of my favourites in season 4. I remember being 14 at the time in aired in my country and that my friends and I would often quote it or put on the Mrs. Peacock voice for fun for months.
I was a young kid when X-Files was running in the 90s's, I watched it with my dad every week. This show was definitely on another level for its time and really brings back fond memories from my youth now when I see the re-runs. Great video Minty!! Keep up the good work!
I remember reading that Mark Snow was asked, are there lyrics to the theme. And he was like, oh, sure! "The X Files is a show………. With music by Mark Snow……."
Good call on this selection Minty! The creepy guy who could slide under the cracks of doors and whatnot creeped me out years after watching his two episodes. This show had a strong parallel to Stephen King's film adaptions, in that, effects were secondary it was all about setting the stage with good story & overall tense vibes.
Do you mean Eugene Victor Tooms? The guy who would emerge from hibernation every 30 years, eat 5 peoples' livers, tear up newspapers to make a sort of paper machet cocoon to climb into & hibernate again? Those episodes stood out so much to me that almost 3 decades later I've never forgotten his name.
The X-Files... A show so incredible not even being broadcast in the TV death slot of Friday night could kill it. My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I would go out on Fridays but thanks to the magic of the VCR we would end our evenings watching the show... mostly.
I have fond memories of Watching The X-Files in high school and college. D.P.O, HOME, ICE, BAD BLOOD, and X-Cops were my favorites. The Lone Gunmen were cool.😮
One of the all time greatest TV shows. I loved the X-Files back when it was new, and still love watching the episodes over again. I was well into the alien storyline, but some of my favorites were monster of the week episodes. As twisted as it was, Home is a classic. Jose Chung’s From Outer Space, Bad Blood, Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose, Humbug. All great episodes.
One of the weirdest things about the show is that they used the same actors to play MULTIPLE minor roles. A guy would be a doctor with speaking lines in one episode and a military member with speaking lines in another and they just thought no one would notice. Like, "Oh, throw some glasses on and use your normal voice." casting.
Also, there were two video games based on the show. The PC/Mac/Playstation game "The X-Files Game" and the PlayStation 2 game "The X-Files: Resist or Serve". Both of which contain voice acting from the main actors Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. Though in the first game you are playing as a character named Craig Willmore, who is assigned by Assistant Director Walter Skinner to investigate the disappearance of agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The second game you get to play as either Dana Scully or Fox Mulder.
I didn't watch a lot of network television when I was in my twenties. But I heard critics talking about how good the X-Files were so I started watching and was hooked.
I always liked monster of the week episodes the best as well. Some of my Favorites were: The Field where I Died, Drive, The Post Modern Prometheus, Jose Chungs' from Outer Space, Darkness Falls and The Unnatural.
I absolutely love this series! I even enjoyed the movies. I remember my mom & sister watching it back in the 90's & I actually asked them if it was real or a TV show 😂🤣 From then on I was hooked! I love conspiracy theories & this show was perfect!
I was a complete X-phile back in the day but must admit I dropped off around the time when the relationship between Mulder and Scully became more than platonic. It was one of the best aspects of the show in the early days. Still, didn't stop me from going to a convention as Scully! Great times.
One of the best shows ever made. I watched every episode I could and if I missed one cuz of work my mom would record then on vhs so I could get caught up. And Millennium was also great. I still think it was Lance Hendrickson's best role.
I loved the X-Files growing up it was my favorite show. And there was actually 2 xfile movies the x files that came out in 1998 and the xfiles I want to believe In 2008. There were even x file video games I owned both. I miss the show alot. Thanks Mark for doing this episode.
I was scared when I saw the intro of the series as a kid, but I like one episode namely the one in which the weather in a certain town reflected a sensitive soul's feelings and emotions.
Amazing series, i watched it as a teenager when it first aired. Obviously the best episodes were the stand alones (clyde bruckman's final repose, the tooms episodes, the human combustion one etc). By the way Minty YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE to make a video about Twin Peaks,my all time favourite tv show.
The inbred family one with the Mom (basically just her upper half) living in the floorboards was the creepiest thing I might have ever seen! Laughing because I typed this before I watched when he got to this part, glad to know I am not the only one creeped out by it.
WATCHING IT AS A YOUNGSTER?! Thanks for making me feel old! I was in my early 20's. I had the same experience, though, as a youngster with Kolchak: The Night Stalker. I'm glad to hear my theory being confirmed behind it being part of the inspiration. My other theory is thst The Flintstones were inspired by The Honeymooners. Has that ever been confirmed? Great work, as always
That would be a ‘platonic’ relationship named for the Ancient Greek philosopher, Plato… not a ‘plutonic’ relationship, presumably for the relationship between Mickey Mouse and his dog.
X-Files & subsequently Millennium (Chris Carter’s Impeccable show that aired alongside X-Files from 1996-99 starring Lance Henriksen) were both perfection. Millennium was abruptly canceled after Season 3 but thankfully got a series finale focused episode in a later season of X-Files. Now, if we could only get Millennium on streaming & a Blu-ray box set!

Adventures of Brisco County Jr. at 8, X Files at 9, then Millennium at 10...Friday night was set for this homebody back then.
My first video to watch today and it is nostalgia to the max, ahhh I miss the 90’s!! Thanks for the video Minty!!
Every week my family would order a pizza, turn down the lights, sit on the floor with blankets, and turn on the newest episode of X-Filled. Loved it!
X files was on after my bedtime when i was little and my mom always watched it, I remember hearing the theme song through the door and it used to creep me out bad lol
lol. this was the same for me.
Same! I was nine years old when the series started and 18 when it ended.
God those first few seasons were just plain awesome. It stumbled a bit toward the end but it will always be a genre-defining classic.
I thought I was watching real life when it was on
Interesting fact : the pilot episode of the Lone Gunman was a plot to uncover a conspiracy to hijack an airliner and fly it into the World Trade Center.
Your true fans really appreciate you.❤👊
The pilot of this series is a freaking masterpiece.
Pilot? Nah. It’s a good start but they didn’t have it quite right. S2-S4 was where it hit its stride.
Thank you for all of the fantastic content, Minty!
its funny how supernatural even mentions xfiles in their script
"THE MINTY IS OUT THERE!"
I believe he's in...the downunder!
DUNN DUNNN DUNNNN
I'll believe it when I see it!😂
The Minty Abides
Gotta love RUclips. It'll let you comment on a comment, but not let you comment originally!
Love ❤️ ya Minty!
Dumb comment for likes.
X files was my favorite show in the 90s, along with Beyond Belief and Outer Limits. There was something magic about the 90s when the world was still mostly analog and so many things unknown.
Man I loved this show back in the day. When people actually watched TV at the end of the day.
Yeah, with Minty you feel like you are getting value for money- what it’s free 😂
We love minty!
I mean he missed talking about Vince Gilligan directing a bunch of the episodes and missed talking about a whole lot of information really I get that it was just some 10 countdown thing, but yeah. As a true fan of the show, it just left me feeling meh 🤷♀️
@@kateapple1 we aren’t gonna take kindly to bad mouthing Minty
Awesome recap of one of my favourite TV series! Very well done. I live in Vancouver and can vouch that our moody weather was perfect for the show.
X-Files and Millennium are some of my favourite series of the 90s
Another banger Minty. Glad to see you’re still at it! I’ve learned tons from your videos. Cheers and thanks from Canada!
Wowzers !!...one of my all time favorite shows gets Mintyfied !!
Gotta love it !!
THANKS !!!!
Unforgettable tv series! Interesting stories, great characters, music, suspense, mystery - full package! First seven seasons are a true pleasure!
First eight seasons*
Great video. The X Files is without a doubt one of my favorite shows growing up and even attended an X Files Con which was a blast.
Thank you! Thank you for covering this fantastic series! From a lifelong X-files addict. 😍🤩😎
I was lucky to work on prosthetics & dummies for a couple of X-Files episodes around 1998. Really fun show!
How cool! 👍
It is excellent!
YES it is hilarious and so goofy! Especially the autopsy scenes!
One of the worst ones lol
One of my all-time favorite shows ever I’m actually re-watching it now I was like I need to rewatch at least one more time & another great video good sir thank you
This show and Supernatural are two shows with the monster of the week vibe nailed down. Love x files and Supernatural.
Me too. Huge amount of actors in The X-Files were also in Supernatural.
Excellent content and great narrative.
I used to religiously videotape it when it originally aired. I love this show! I'm now rewatching and loving every minute
This show is what i grew up on. Thank you Spooky molder.
I went back to it and binged it a couple of years ago. It holds up extremely well!
Which episode and season is that one??? I wanna watch it now lol
S6E7 Terms of endearment with none other than Bruce Campbell.
Sweet!!! Thanks man !👍
Not sure if I am the biggest fan of the X-files Ever!
Crazy? Maybe, but I still believe...LOL.😮
I was beside myself when they did the reboot of the X-files. I miss the show so much!! I hope they re-boot it one more time for good measure.
Minty is here! Good to see ya buddy!
That was great and I'm sharing this with my 36 yo daughter who has loved X Files for years.
Thank you ❤
Another great video, thank you so much, Minty!❤
Yes and that one episode was scary and my favorite. I even got the goose bumps with the Jonny Mathis song
I miss good TV like this. It’s so rare now.
My favorite show, Im rewatching right now.
You have great taste! 👍👽
Best show on in the 90s. So ahead of its time.
Best show ever.
I remember reading that Gillian was a believer and David was the sceptic, the opposite to their characters
I loved this series! Thanks for covering it Minty 😊
@@darthgorbag yup, that'd be him.
What was that episode with the monsters who blended in with the trees? 19:26. I vaguely remember the episode but can't remember the name.
Detour, season five
@@Thewood35 Thank you so much.
I grew up on X-Files, it was real television.
I always NEEDED to watch on Fridays...
I always look forward to your videos. You present them them with such a sense of fun, you always brighten my day...
D.P.O was a very memorable episode. Bad Blood was my favourite and I really loved Killswitch too, which was the episode just before it.
I've noticed that in other movies as well ...
Star Trek did this constantly
Your right man, growing up watching this show was amazing.
Thr field where I died is one of the best episodes, just something about that episode!
@@thepluggy1 agreed
@@kahvozeinsfang6953 Grotesque is another one of my favourites, so dark
The first 5 seasons were amazing. After that, it went down.
I absolutely loved the X-Files, I have all the seasons on DVD and both movies, even the less than spectacular second one
Best channel on RUclips!
My question is, why doesn't this channel have at least a million subscribers by now 🤦♂️❓️.
Ironic thing is this show was ahead of its time because we now know this show does portray what does go on in our own US Government!
Oh yes! I remember Millennium , was really good too 👍🏻
It came on Friday in the 90s and I would not leave the house on Friday Night until I watched my X-Files it was that important to me!
I loved the X-Files growing up it was my favorite show. And there was actually 2 xfile movies the x files that came out in 1998 and the xfiles I want to believe In 2008. There were even x file video games I owned both. I miss the show alot. Thanks Mark for doing this episode.
"Home" is probably the best episode.
I was scared when I saw the intro of the series as a kid, but I like one episode namely the one in which the weather in a certain town reflected a sensitive soul's feelings and emotions.
I think that's the Valentines day episode. With the cute blonde from SNL. Can't remember her name.
Thank you for mentioning the Night Stalker show from the 70s. I grew up loving this show.
It's not obvious that the best episodes were the stand alones - that's just your opinion. I disagree.
@@mcjs8640 Don't be an asshole
The Twin Peaks episode is already out there. I watched it just before watching this one.
Same here. I was 23 in 1994... how time flies. The X Files remains my favourite the show ever.
Exactly. I have two seasons on DVD but it needs streaming ❤❤❤❤❤
