I always watch Die Hard 2 during the Christmas season. It's my second favorite in the franchise and like it a lot more than any of other sequels, including the 3rd.
Yeah, I have never understood the admiration for part 3 and hate for part 2. Who cares if it was similar to 1. It was entertaining, thrilling, fun. That's all a movie needs to be. Part 3 lacks the fun part. It's more about racism and the realistic decay of a city. I like a more comic, fun approach to action.
Totally agree with 2 being very underrated. I didn't like 3 as much as others seem to, despite it being a McTiernan flick. 3 seemed to deconstruct McClane too much and ruin the relationship that was being rebuilt with Holly.
Actually, part two is my favourite one. ;-) The story is very well written and I was quite surprised by the plot twists watching the movie for the first time.

I heard they were making a prequel. Maybe that's it. McClane vs Preditor. A young uniformed John McClane pulls over a drunk driver, which turns out to be a Preditor, and has to chase it through the streets of early 80s New York. Sounds like winner.

Wow most people I know, me included, consider With a Vengeance to be 'meh' but yeah DH2 doesn't get talked about much. The problem with "with a Vengeance" I think is that it's so different all the others can more or less be seen as wrong place wrong time while Vengeance the bad guy specifically asks for him it just feels wierd especially considering John's response in DH2 when someone said "You're just in the wrong place at the wrong time" which was "Yeah story of my life."
I'd say still not Christmas movie's, but Christmas is a thing in movies with Christmas in it. This is a carry over from the previous discussion. Huh where were we though, I can't remember? Lol
Ok let's debate this: As to minty's point of the song "let it snow" being in both movies, I just want to point out that is the least Christmassy song of all Christmas songs. It doesn't even have any mention of anything related to Christmas in it if you think about it. It is in fact a winter song more along the lines of frosty the snowman.
I’ve always felt something cozy and comforting watching both die hard and die hard 2 curled up by the fire on Xmas eve with friends while we drink egg nog and watch the mayhem on the home theatre. The second one is sort of like your favourite comfort food I guess.
Diehard 2 is a “kitchen sink” sequel. The originator was extraordinarily successful, so why change the recipe? Just make it BIGGER. Throw in everything but the kitchen sink. I prefer this movie to Die hard with a vengeance
Shane Black does Long Kiss Goodnight. It's not a bad action film. It has a slow 2nd act & the bad guys(rogue CIA guys who want more budget $$$) is a contrived plot. After 09/11/2001, the movie seems even more pointless.

I realize that I’m a bit late to comment. I have just recently learned of your channel and really enjoy it. I enjoyed Die Hard 2, but for the comedic aspect of it. As a professional pilot, there were so many inaccuracies that it was funny and I laughed out loud in the theater. I hope I didn’t ruin the movie for other people. I won’t go over all the inaccuracies but the main ones only. 1. You can’t change an approach. Even if you. Old, the pilots would note discrepancies in altitudes and abandon the approach. 2. There is no convenient “fuel dump’ lever to pull. 3. Jet fuel burns slowly as its kerosene, not gasoline. 4. Planes can’t follow a line of fire to landing. 5. No pilot will stay in a holding pattern and run out of fuel. They’d bug out to their alternate. 6. Why did everyone evacuate down escape slides after landing!?!? That’s always going to lead to injuries. That was absolutely stupid! Just taxi to the gate! One final note... The artwork you provided shows a Boeing 787 which didn’t exist in the 80s. I think the sequel was great! Actually like it better than the original and it is way better than the 3rd one. The cameos and original movie characters that return made the movie familiar and relatable
Love this action blockbuster, great installment in the Die Hard series of films and I find nothing wrong with Die Hard 2, it's a great action movie and the budget of it was 70,000,000 compared to the original which was 28,000,000. All the original Die Hard trilogy was the best.
6:55 Minty's Alpha 5 Moment!!! OMG!!! Memories!!! Die Hard 2 doesn't suffer from being a Die Hard 1 clone, it suffers because the plot twist of the military forces that come to help the good guys only to side with the bad is far too memorable for it to be as easily rewatchable as the first film. The scripting for the first film is also crisper and more entertaining. 16:38 This is just a disturbing reminder of how stupid people have become after Y2K...
DH and DHWAV were at least grounded in reality DH2 makes it seem like there was only one airport within a thousand miles and that the airplanes had no choice but to wait around for their impending death also, what possible reason could there be for McClane calling Al to run a fingerprint scan in LOS ANGELES? Wouldn't NYC (you know, where he actually has the legal authority to run a fingerprint check without having to call in a favor to a friend) have made infinitely more sense?
@@Viking_Luchador in DH2 he is actually part of the LAPD, as he says to the officer that gives him a ticket at the start, but yes I agree with you about the airports, there are plenty of others they would have diverted to if they were "flying on fumes".
@@sacrament182 ah yes, the parallel universe version of Sipowicz. I remember McClane trying to use being a cop to leverage his way out of a ticket. But I can't remember him specifically saying he was LAPD. I don't even know how that would work in real life. Unless of course, after the events of the first movie, John moved to LA to rebuild his marriage, and then moved back to New York after this movie.
Who were these bad voice over actors they got to do the tv version? There is a documentary interviewing these people if ever there was on waiting to be made. "Yes, I came up with the line Mr Falcon after I could not read my lines anymore." LOL
Hi minty love the channel!!! I love die hard 2!!! Remember the scene where McClain kills the guy with the icecicle reminds me of a Christmas story when ralphie shoots his eye out and makes up the story about icecicle and his mom tells him the icecicle have been known to kill people. That had to be an Easter egg. Thank you for all the good videos. Keep up the good work.
No, it's not. I like 2 better than 3, which is trying too hard to be a Die Hard movie, it doesn't feel natural. All that crap about that green explosives and that water tube sequence...
Love your videos! I cannot watch DH2. Worked at an airport for some time and worked around airplanes a lot. There is so much that is wrong (even accounting for cinematic liberties) that it's torture. I go straight from DH to DHWAV.
Pt 3 went in a different direction. It wasn't fast paced at ALL. 3 was more about suspense. More of a thriller or who dunnit. It isn't a 90s movie. Meh
@@your_source_network_media I don't mind any of those things, and can appreciate the (somewhat) more original approach... I just couldn't forgive Bonnie's character for divorcing McClane after being saved TWICE, and Sam Jackson's character (Zeus) was just an antagonistic asshole. Hell, the fact that Jeremy Iron's was Hans Gruber's cousin (or some stupid horseshit) I thought was more preposterous than the entirity of DIE HARD 2.
I always liked all 3, the 3rd one is great as far as a crazy adventure in a darker setting but it definitely hits political notes that are annoying. Samuel L Jackson is great though

Die hard 1 & 2 have always been my favorite. I always watch both when christmas comes around.
There are just 2 things you need to make a successful die hard movie, 1. Villian must have surname Gruber. 2. Black co-star.
Pretty much
DH and DHWAV were at least grounded in reality
DH2 makes it seem like there was only one airport within a thousand miles and that the airplanes had no choice but to wait around for their impending death
also, what possible reason could there be for McClane calling Al to run a fingerprint scan in LOS ANGELES?
@@Viking_Luchador lol, parallel universe Sipowicz, I like it.
I watched the 3rd one on tv one time. He said Yippy Ki yay mellow farmer. Jesus.....
Merry Christmas Minty! And have a happy New year mate!...."yippie ky yay Mr falcon!"
It's a good sequel but what was missing was the claustrophobic atmosphere of John being trapped in a building.
How about a little movie called Robot Jox
Who were these bad voice over actors they got to do the tv version? There is a documentary interviewing these people if ever there was on waiting to be made. "Yes, I came up with the line Mr Falcon after I could not read my lines anymore." LOL
The snowmobile scenes and a couple others were filmed in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan by Kincheloe.
I happen to like Die Hard 2 better than With a Vengeance. Maybe it’s just me.
It is just you
No, it's not. I like 2 better than 3, which is trying too hard to be a Die Hard movie, it doesn't feel natural. All that crap about that green explosives and that water tube sequence...
@@hendeju it's just you!
I miss the trilogy video game. I still have it and the playstation still works, just haven't hooked it up...
@The Jim Reaper™ It was very difficult... but fun to muck around with!
I loved that game, I'm going to but it now. Thanks.... d*ck 😀
2:44 Funny thing, the books "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "58 Minutes" are actually completely unconnected and have two completely different heroes.
Love your videos!
I cannot watch DH2. Worked at an airport for some time and worked around airplanes a lot. There is so much that is wrong (even accounting for cinematic liberties) that it's torture. I go straight from DH to DHWAV.
Since we're on a Christmas theme here, how about the Silent Night, Deadly Night movies? lol
GARBAGE DAY 🔫
Punish!
OMFG I loved the adventures of Ford Fairlane it's hilarious, but there's no way you could make that movie today
No die hard villain will ever be as good as Hans grüber
Another Christmas classisc. New video from Mintey...instant like. Greatness
Robert Patrick's: (AKA T1000), film debut!
Cool. Never knew that.
I heard Cameron cast him because of this. Not 100 percent sure it's true lol.
@@johnmcnamara8741. Cameron cast him, because he said Robert Patrick had a predatory cat like appearance.
I can't believe Ebert gave thumbs up to this one but NOT the original. I love the guy and miss him, but he wasn't always right
Mr. Falcon, that is awesomeness! Happy holidays Minty!
MERRY CHRISTMAS MINTY
HAPPY SAFE NEW YEAR !!!!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR TALENTS WITH US 🤗🤗😁🤗🤗
Actually, I always liked Die Hard 2 and hated Die Hard 3.
I prefer die hard with a vengeance over two
Me too. 3 is kinda crap
Die Hard with a Vengeance is a Classic? Says who?
I love all the Die Hard franchise and yes the first 2 movies are Christmas movie. Just like the first lethal weapon is a Christmas movie too. Great job Minty!
I had the Die Hard 2 videogame.
Loved it.
""""""""""Comedy Classic"""""""""" 5:11
Ford Fairlane is a comedy classic.... where did he get that fact?
cuz it is.
Ford Fairlane is a pretty great movie for that era.
I worked in a video store when Ford Fairlane was released and it just sat on the shelf.
One of my favorite comedies.
@@jamesclukey7488 I worked at one too and that movie was balls out!
'Mr Falcon..' :-) I had not heard that one before. My favourite overdub is when a bridge blows up in Elliot Gould's face in A Bridge Too Far and he looks straight into camera and clearly mouths 'Shit' while the bad overdub in the TV version says 'shoot'. So blatently wrong! Keep up the good work I am enjoying watching all these vids !
Merry Christmas, Minty! Keep up the good work in 2019 :)
That it sucks compared to Die Hard with a Vengeance.
Actually, I prefer Die Hard 2 to the original.
...sometimes
Another great review Minty! Yippee Ky Yay Mister Falcon, indeed! lmao! Anyways, I hope you get around to doing a 10 Things You Didn't Know About on both A Christmas Story & Ernest Saves Christmas. Also, since you mentioned Commando. When the holidays are over, how about a 10 Things You Didn't Know About Commando?
Please do the rest of the die hard movies .... you are doing nice clips ! Also, you I like your calm style, most youtubers are so hyperactive moving clowns
I’ll take DH2 over DH3 all day every day
