Loved this film as a youngster. Really, really enjoyed Van Damme’s early films like Bloodsport, Cyborg, Kickboxer, Universal Soldier, Hard Target, A.W.O.L, Time Cop. Good old 80s/90s cheesy action. Miss those days.
"He can't hear you" as he swings his necklace of ears around. Loved it
It was such an earie movie.
"Im all ears"
dolphs best performance probably
Such an underrated movie. The best part is the diner fight scene when JCVD takes a bite of a sandwich before proceeding to kick everyone in the face!
I just want to eat. Had me dying
Terrible movie , was awesome at the start then went down hill.
@@molasorrosalom4846 the origin on hangry!!
Yup, I love that movie and that scene is the best part.
That is the absolute WORST scene in the film.
This was badass 90's balls to the wall action!
An underrated movie as is a lot of Van Dammes work.
The Amazon Prime Jean-Claude Van Johnson is great. Watch it!
"Regeneration" and "Day of Reckoning" are the only sequels worth giving a damn about
Wud'nt say it was underrated this film was wen VD was massive
I mean…..i luv the guy, but most of his movies are the same concept. Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Lionheart, The Quest, Death warrant; all about a fighter in some sort of competition
@@elrubio687 these films you listed are his best films he has done, apart from the quest as it's shit , but add hard target, double impact, cyborg to the list,, & you have great popcorn movies to watch all summer
Arnold visiting the set wasn't nearly as random as you might think. He has been friends for decades with Ralf Moeller, who played GR76, and can be seen in the stills you used. Also, he has known Van Damme since at least the initial days of filming of Predator, where Van Damme was originally cast to wear the creature suit. Also, both Arnold and Ralf won Mr. Universe titles, so their body building pasts, plus coming from neighboring countries, probably helped bring them together.
This piece of information really ties the whole video together.
Good w3rk Minty. I had the pleasure of working background on Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.
Both Dolph & Jean-Claude seemed to be in the best shape of their lives.
Also starred Scott Atkins and Andrei Arlovski who both were Mixed Martial Arts competitors.
Jean-Claude son Kris also had a role, as while we were waiting to shoot a scene, few extras were speculating who this person was, when Jean-Claude showed up and made small talk with a group of us and his son.
and just like you mentioned about the not knowing how many sequels had been made, i had no clue and it seems that majority of the general public doesn't either and for most part some say if it doesn't contain Dolph & Jean-claude in it, most people won't realize it's part of franchise.
Keep Up the good work.
Reliving my childhood memories through Minty ... he should be charging me $300 / hr and asking me how I felt about my father
Save your money, and just watch all the movies he talks about!
@@davidurbach7882 thats what I do...and relive my childhood :)
I confused this title with the Kurt Russell movie called Soldier. it had a very similar plot
@@Zipzeolocke Kurt Russell also appeared in Stargate which was Roland Emmerich's next movie after this one 😎
Black Corp lol 😂. You damn right!
The memories this movie brings me 👌 Dolph lundgren is one scary ass dude in this, so sadistic, cruel and psychotic played his part perfectly 💯
Calum Mcleod saw the movie as a kid in the cinema, some things only come to us oldies.
ARE WE HAVING FUN YET!!!
@@andyaitken4243 definitely, makes me feel ancient lol
YES!! ESPECIALLY WHEN HE SAID "I'M ALL EARS" THAT GAVE ME CHILLS
"We kick ass and kiss ass."
they werent cyborgs they were reanimated using some sort of serum and they had to be kept cold when not working.
They did have SOME implants, but yes, they were not cyborgs. Re-animated dead conscript soldiers
Man, I forgot how cool this movie was. Thanks, Minty! Another fine job, sir!
“Van Damme in the Hoover Dam. That’s a lotta dam.”
Where can I get some damn bait?
At the damme bait shop.
Damn
@@vanhopecomedy quite frankly i dont give a damn!
Josh Miller save your dam questions until after the video!
Where’s the dam toilet!?
Always loved this movie. One of the best from Lundgren and Van-Damme.
I really liked this movie when I was a kid!
Minty, you should do one on Soldier with Kurt Russel, it's very similar to this one!
This! ☝️😁
Love Soldier!
Agree..and much more enjoyable movie IMO w/ Russell and Pertwee..
I can relate to Soldier having served in Iraq . when you go to boot camp you are torn down and retrained to be a killing machine.
Yup
I have a JCVD day where I just watch his great action movies from the 80's and 90's and this is one of them. Love this movie.
Sounds like a great day.. what ones do you watch? Did you ever see Black Eagle? or No Retreat No Surrender?
@@christianmovienerd6893 Yes I did. I've seen every Van Damme movie up to present day. I re-watch all the classics like Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Double Impact, Cyborg and many more of his filmography.
You and I should be friends
Ditto
Kickboxer , Bloodsport , Universal soldier then A.W.O.L 👍
I'm not sure how he can see the word CAROLOCO when it's clearly CAROLCO!
roguedemon100 it’s funny because I have said it even stranger since I was a kid… Car-loco. I wonder if it’s because when you’re growing up you never hear it said out loud and the logo goes by pretty fast in the movies.. And it’s not an Australian thing. I am from the US 😂
The Mandela Effect at play!
I used to pronounce it as CORALCO when I was a kid. I would somehow switch the A and the O even though I did see it properly as CAROLCO. I never questioned it though.
I kept hearing him say it and it made me look up the name to make sure I'M not saying it incorrectly.
It's pronounced KAR AL KO! Saw an old T2 making of the other day.
this was definitely one of JCVD and Dolphs best movies very underrated and very innovative
I want Dredd 2!!!
Me too pal. Me too
Do you mean Judge Dredd 2?
@@JV-qh7ix Carl Urban's dredd not stallones
Im still hoping they do a tv series aperently karl urban still attached
I hear that
I love this film, watch it every summer. So underrated.. Long live the eighties and early nineties!
Lundgren is actually a really smart guy, he has a high I.q. and holds a degree in physics.
From M.I.T even, but I thought it was chemical engineering.
@@chadfalardeau9162 i think you're right..thanks for that.
@@chadfalardeau9162 Yes, Chemical Engineering. They even take the piss out of it in The Expendables 2 by giving his character Gunner the same trait when he tries to make the bomb lol.
he holds 3 degrees
Too bad he's not smart enough to read scripts considering most his movies are straight to video trash.
Dredd 2012 was great, would have loved to have gotten a sequel. Another good video Minty, thanks for taking me back on a journey through my childhood.
Minty the eye piece was actually inspired by Eddie the cyborg of 'Iron Maiden' Somewhere In Time Album
Another one of my favorites growing up Minty. I loved this movie.
one of my favorite action movies. 2 actors at their prime
I remember from a League of There Own "There's no crying in baseball!".
"You're gonna' loooose!... You're gonna' loooose!...."
And... now _I can't_ remember anything else from that one. =)
"Now you start using your head. That's that lump 3 feet above your ass." 😂😂😂😂 That movie came out around 30 years ago and I'm still using that line.
Albee213 As much as I love Minty, I can’t help thinking he was a bit too dismissive regarding A League of Their Own.
Not to further take a piss on anyone’s cornflakes in this thread either, but the movie was more than just a series of quotes and catchphrases.
It was based on the creation of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and how significantly women’s roles changed during World War II.
If Minty reads this, I hope he’ll consider checking it out, as he might be able to appreciate the historical commentary of the movie now that he’s older.
💚🤗🤗💚
Cracks me up at the end when Minty dives off his chair.
CAROLCO ! not CAROLOCO lol
Hahaha! Yeah, I was laughing all the way through that segment!
Ha, noticed this too. But love the Minty vids👍😁👌 one of my favourite movies too. I forgive you minty
In his defense, I have said “car-loco” ever since I was a kid and can’t shake it 😂
Thank you.. I thought i was the only one going crazy. :)
I know right... Minty, it's pronounced CAROL-CO.
I remember my dad took me out to see this in the theatre when it came out. Man, what I'd give to have my parents out moving around like they used to.
Yes Minty! Just in time for lunch again! I love this film so under rated! Sheer 90s macho cheese! Love it! Im all ears!
👂👂👂👂👂👂👂👂👂👂 😀 👍
Really liked this movie! Ally Walker is so beautiful in this movie
This was one of my fave van dam fims the other two being hard target and time cop
Burt Reynolds? In Universal Soldier?
All I can imagine in my head is is Norm McDonald doing a Saturday Night Live skit as Burt Reynolds doing a Universal Soldier sequel joke.
Thats it, my mind wont let me view anything else.
You mean Turd Ferguson?
Lol
Hey! Ur um I can't, I can't hear you!
5:30, and Aliens with the colonial Marines had that head gear they were wearing.
6:30 if Stallone was around, we should have had The Expendables 18 years earlier
One of my favorite movies growing up. Also good to hear Buffy Saint-Marie's name contribution to the movie. I never knew that. Thanks Minty.
“Where is he?”
“.....around.”
That line still kills me
CA-ROL-CO
Yeah, who's Caroloco?
em-er-ick
Minty has "Caroloco's" in his own segment title, followed by the official Carolco logo in his presentation. Maybe it's an inside joke that we aren't aware of.
The way Minty said it I thought it was a person: Carl Olco
@@Djp2987 EmmeriCH um genau zu sein
Loved this movie as a kid!!! I couldn't get enough of JCVD! Kickboxer was another one I watched till the VHS tape boke lol!!! Keep it up Minty!!!
Love ya Mark.. found you here quiet awhile back and still keep coming back. We here have rewatched almost everything in your Playlist many times. You're one of those people that just seem so laid back and funny. Anyway.. just passing that along if you see this. So you know you do have an effect on people out there in the interwebs lol. And lastly.. yes.. we need a Dredd 2 because the one we do have is pure gold. Peace..
I remember seeing this movie in the theatre ! Thanks for the memories Minty !
Insta-click, van Damme is awesome 😁 I'm pretty sure I've watched all of his movies, bloodsport is my fave!
Van Damme is a bloody legend
Followed by Kickboxer.
I know it's completely different but do cool runnings, it was on tv a few days ago in uk
Damn Minty! Was there a movie video game you didn't play or toy you didn't own as a kid? Because I'm jealous!❤
Dolph Lundgren as a villain was badass. He was indeed MVP in this film by far!!!
Honestly, outside of the gear they wear, I never get the impression that the characters are _cyborgs_. I suppose maybe you if you interpret it in some unconventional manner, but I always assumed that the way they were created had more to do with biology. They're regularly injected with drugs and there's really no hint of them having any sort of mechanical components.
I agree. They are chemically enhanced and are not cyborgs.
@@ShastaHawk Agreed.
Definitely not cyborgs, re-animated dead conscript soldiers.
One of my favourite JVCD flicks. The sequels are AWFUL though.
Ps Futureworld is awesome.
Charles Mocata I totally agree...but I can’t resist...Jean Van Claude Damm...lol
@@Ender7j you beat me to it. Heh
I liked the 2009 one , fight scenes were good.
@FieryReign the Scott Adkins one had some entertaining fights but a god awful story and JCVD and Lundgren were horribly misused.
I saw this movie at the cinemas as a kid in year 8. I don’t remember not seeing van damme not turning on the harvester, but I guess I was sort of surprised seeing the scene when I watched the movie at a later date. I used to have that poster on my wall as a kid, got it from my local video store when they no longer needed it:) good memories.
"you're discharged, sarge" remains one of my all time favorite kill lines
Universal Soldier trailer had a Terminator 2 soundtrack "the canal chase"
A Dolph Lundgren meat patty 😂😂😂 as an Aussie that's hilarious!
Are you kidding? "A League of their Own" is a classic. It just got put in the US archive for historical and cultural significance.
*SB0780 Forgive me for pasting my reply from someone else’s comment, but I’m glad you said this...*
As much as I love Minty, I can’t help thinking he was a bit too dismissive regarding A League of Their Own.

Thanks for another great fantastic video review and to one of the best van damme an dolph lundgren classics, I'm a huge van damme fan, cheers from the uk
I thought it was a little weird that the reanimated soldiers kept running hot and needed to be cooled off.
Yeah I always wondered about that too. The only thing i can think of is the ammount of cybernetic work that was used to revive them must have been left in and anything with computers tends to get hot when working constantly. I'm guessing they didn't put alot of thought into it and just wanted to come up with some kind of weakness for the Unisols
I LOVE JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME MOVIE AND HE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ACTION STARS!
##JCVD
One of my favorite movies of JCVD.
Do more of these Van Damme's classic movies, maybe 10 Things You Didn't Know About Double Impact, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Lionheart, Hard Target etc.. Anyway I like most of your videos, I learned a lot of interesting and some crazy things about movies! Keep up with the good work!
You’re trolling us with these pronunciations right Minty?
Finally i asked you to do this movie more than year ago
Love all the hard work you put into all theses reviews and enjoy them a lot, thanks for all the hard work you do - Nova Scotia
Good video, Minty. A lot of interesting facts for Universal Soldier. Out of curiosity, have you ever thought about doing 10 things you didn’t know about Enter The Ninja (1981)? Just a suggestion. Other than that, awesome videos and keep up the good work.
Can you look at a Dinosaur movie called Baby Secret Of The Lost Legend🦕
“The mincing of Scott” sounds like a movie title if I ever heard one! 😂
Should be about two mates who reenact universal soldier and when they redo the last final scene.. he minces his mate Scott
Still one of the bset Van Damme movies in my opinion, though I still remember my parents letting me watch it when I was way too young for any of the ratings back when it came out on VHS when I was like 6. Still holds up superbly to this day and blows the sequels out of the water easily.
Man i love these types of films , fun action , adrenaline pumping , popcorn chuking , soda guzling good fun .
Now we just need hollywood to reboot it with an all female and transgender cast so we can all see that white man bad all women are heroes! Yay! =)
@@jamesanthony8438 ha , i dont mind the sexy ladies though , but diffrent strokes for diffrent folks .
@@luizenidog5016 I don't mind them, either. Just make sure they _can act_ and aren't pushing some lame-assed, socialist, anti-American agenda and give 'em their own movie to do it with; quit butchering the sh*t out of our classics that we love! =)
The Sandlot
Nice And now DOooooooooooooooooooo
A STREET FIGHTER MOVIE FROM 1994 ...
THERE IS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT ..
ITS STILL ONE OF THE BEST BAD MOVIES EVER
Great job again 👍
"Carol-O-co?"
"Dean Delvin?"
saw part of this vid last night, finished it up tonight while watching the movie on my dvd. love this movie.
Carol-loco?
I'm beginning to think you do this stuff on purpose just to troll us, Minty.
Hey Minty, I was wondering what you thought of 1987 "Real Men" with John Ritter and Jim Belush ?
Another one I saw multiple times in the theater as a kid. I still love this movie.
one of jcvd's best films, its in my top 10 of all time
This is a classic Action Flic.
Nice one, Minty.
This film takes me back to my childhood (my childhood was basically action movies back to back 😂)
This was filmed partially in my home town of Kingman, AZ. I remember getting a behinds the scenes tour while they were filming at the airport. My dad was across the street when they blew up the gas station and he provided some of the actor's trailers, as he owned a local RV dealership at the time. This is the first time I've heard that our golf course was used to film the jungle scenes in 'Vietnam', though...interesting. One of my favorites. Funny...another movie mentioned in this video, A League Of Their Own, was filmed in the town I was born in, Evansville, IN lol
Dolph Lundgren gets such a bad wrap for all of his earlier movies. This one kinda put him back on track a little.
He played an awesome sociopath!!!!!!!!!!!!
His early movies his acting was really bad and robotic, and generally I think the movies didn't give him much to work with. This movie gave him more to work with switching between the robotic Unisol and his character's real personality plus maybe he took some acting lessons.
@@GrimmShadowsII I still flip out to this day when I see him in A View To A Kill.
I think Universal soldier came out before the StarTrek with the borg in it.
Best of Both Worlds was 1990, 2 years before Universal Soldiers
‘Q Who’ May 1989
Anya Jenkins lol. With TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY on Netflix I can binge watch at my leisure since there’s not much good on anymore.
Thanks again for the information on some of my favorite videos I appreciate all the time and hard work
Back then if you wanted to see a action movie you got what you wanted not like today, you might hurt someone's feelings. Great job minty
The blonde was such a babe. Hotter version of Jennifer Aniston.
Algo. Her name is Ally Walker. Yes she is prety.
algo Right on.
She definitely was but not any more. She was also Agent Stahl on Sons of Anarchy and played a psychiatrist on Longmire. She didnt age well.

Awesome! The one Roland Emmerich film worth the celluloid its printed on. I love Universal Soldier!
This was a great movie and one o Van Damme's best!
I had it in original VHS ,I must have seen it hundreds of times!!
Loved this movie when I was 12, and the end fight still pumps me up to this day. I'll watch it from time to time before hitting the gym. When Van Damme injects the syrum and turns the tables on him was epic.
Grabbing him by the vest, and repeatedly punching him in the face.
There was a different ending, more interesting story wise but test screenings had young folks asking for more fighting. So the interesting ending might be on some dvd's or youtube?
@@TiqueO6
What was the original ending?
you would make an excellent universal soldier
Thank you. 😂

Damn i need to buy this movie! Minty I gotta say thanks for the reminder of how badass this flick is!
Where's Blood Sport???
Or kickboxer
They will be coming, minty knows the crack!
Minty Comedic Arts i do have a problem with this video it's to short and we need more Minty!
Universal Soldier still holds up as a good sci fi movie but an awesome action movie. All these years later I still want that body temp regulating watch.

Love you minty keep up the good work and stay healthy wuhan is on the loose

Speaking of Carolco, I think Stargate and Cliffhanger were their lasts hits in the early 90s.
Great video and timing. I just watched this movie over the weekend.
Another Minty fresh video. Something to always look forward to. Chocked full of fresh facts full of that Minty goodness and is great for the whole family. 😂😂😂
"If you all have a problem let me know..." Well, here's my problems. You have fantastic takes on classic movies that I really enjoy! How dare you!!! You are just a fun guy to watch! Shame on you!!! You obviously get a kick out of all the movies you review and your excitement for them is infectious and gets me all pumped up to see them again! How can you live with that?! :-D
