I always thought not using Slade in action was a wasted opportunity. Good film though. Him and Blaze side by side only for Slade to just toss Blaze his side arm for the final shot. Make the scene feel more like an old western flick. Given Sam Elliott's film history.

I grew up a huge Ghost Rider fan and was obsessed with collecting his every comic book appearance. I even got the entire run of the The Champions, a team to which GR belonged. The Ghost Rider comic was cancelled my junior year in high school, but because I had one of the coolest college professors ever, she allowed me to write my senior thesis as a 6-issue script entitled "Return of the Ghost Rider". So when the movie came out, my friends were eager to hear my feedback. I told them, "It may not have been MY Ghost Rider. But I could believe it was Ghost Rider."

I am aware. I think I make the connection for a couple of reasons. First, Johnny Blaze has had to escape from Hell a couple of times in the comics. Also, Nic Cage plays characters in both who have names that are derivations of John - Johnny Blaze in GR, John Milton in DA. Lastly, the vibe of Drive Angry, with its similar road-centric, supernatural western feel, just feels in line with the GR movies to me.

Great video Minty, but your description of the film is mistaken. Ghost Rider is an Angel of Justice pulled down to hell and tortured to insanity by the devil. Blackheart is after the contract of San maganza. And he becomes a merging of Blackheart and the souls of the contract thus making him vulnerable to Ghost Rider’s penance stair. Also there is nothing strange about the Punisher staring Thomas Jane and John Travolta. It actually the best movie version of the character.

So when he was about 4 years old and had been hyper focused on all things Ghost Rider for about a year, this movie came out. Still remember hearing him freak out in the other room, running in because I thought something was wrong and one of those Geico commercials were on TV. Hey Minty, there's actually another connection to the movie "Easy Rider" that you neglected to mention
Johnny's motorcycle prior to it's transformation into the Hell Bike, was modeled after Peter Fonda's motorcycle, Captain America in Easy Rider
Which lead to the line by Peter Fonda's line of "Nice Bike" being something of an inside joke

Visually the GR scenes are amazing. Seeing the bike slowly come out from the pool on fire is badass. The plot is paper thin but by now Marvel were not willing to take chances like with Blade and make it an R rated movie which would have likely suited it better. 10 years ago we were all hoping and praying for Marvel to get the rights back, but with the current lackluster output the Cage GR movies might turn out to be the better ones lol.

Good video, Minty! My niece and I like the Ghost Rider movies a lot. The religious tie ins are interesting. Nicolas Cage is great. I like the jailbreak transformation scene the best. Kind of reminds you like the Hulk in that scene. I would have nightmares forever if I seen that. Lol. I am glad you explained the Cowboy Ghostrider. I did not understand it when I first saw this movie. It explains a lot. Like passing the torch so to speak. Amazing action movie. Ghost Rider keeps showing up from time to time in movies too. He had a cameo in an animated Hulk cartoon series one time. Take care.

The hate was mostly directed at the second film. I was a Personal Assistant to Mr. Elba during production, and as soon as his casting was announced he started receiving many write-ups talking about how he was completely miscast & was not a good enough actor for the movie. 😞

I remember my first time watching this.
Me and my cousin got dropped off for the movie. I remember being kind of disappointed because of how short the battles were, and feeling like they didn’t show enough “Ghost Rider” …
My cousin thought it was one of the coolest movies ever. Lol. We were 7 years in age difference.
But, the whole ride home was basically me hating it and him loving it.
    Time passes way to quickly.
