He beat me to it as well but it was out 2 days before I watched it. In the comics Ben Grimm/The Thing married Alicia Masters. I enjoyed both the movies but not the 2015 one.
Chiklis was the perfect Thing. And honestly Julian McMahon would be a good Dr Doom if they did him right. And of course the 90s Marvel Action Hour kept me in front of the TV every Saturday.
I absolutely LOVE this movie. I saw it in the theater, I loved Stan Lee's cameo as Willie Lumpkin. I am NOT guilty of loving this movie, I am a huge fan of the comics. The tone and the characters were perfect. (except for Doom, he wasn't arch enough for me, but still fun)
Fun fact: Yes, it was licensing issues that Johnny Storm couldn’t be used in The New Fantastic Four animated series because Irwin Allen, the creator of Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and producer of The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno, was trying to make a film based on the character and had the rights despite proposed film ultimately never being made.
When I was a kid, there were two reasons i began to read, 1 was batman and superman, the other was the fantastic 4 and spider man. Two powerhouses from 2 different companies. Forever changing the world for me ❤😂
I loved this movie so much that I added it to my MCU collection in 2005. The "Silver Surfer" variation will never be in my home, though... But I proudly have "GREEN LANTERN", because RYAN REYNOLDS!
My husband is a big Green Lantern fan and I agree with him when he says he doesn't understand why there was so much hate for the movie. The CG costume is a little grating at times and I didn't like the ice eyes, but I think it was solid for the time. It just came up against X-Men First Class, Thor and Captain America that year. Those are some big shadows to stand in.
When I was a kid I loved that robot! Remember Star Wars had just come out and he was like R2 and C3PO combined. So a LOT of us wanted to see that robot.
The scene where Johnny gets Ben with the shaving cream was something that I thought was very in line with how Johnny and Ben are in a lot of the comics.
13:29 when I saw Minty had done this movie I was just waiting for the moment when he had to say Ioan Gruffudd 😆 And it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be… still wrong, but not as bad 😆 (Yo-ann Griff-ith)
Agreed. Especially on BATMAN 89. BATMAN RETURNS was also nice and dark. Then came the 3rd one.... Jaime Demeter was able to re edit a darker cut of , "' BATMAN F0REVER'". Never go campy with Batman. Stay dark ! ruclips.net/video/L4HczEQaVCc/видео.htmlsi=fuMCm417Pf3kQte2
It was a great 🎦. I admit i didnt enjoy it much when i 1st saw it but after finding 😍 with the fantastic 4 i gained appreciation 4 this 🎦. The cast was loveable the script was fun.
Actually Batman Begins at the time was just a decent success. Fantastic Four's box office was actually super close to Batman Begins, with Batman Begins only beating it by $40 million, and yet Fantastic Four had $50 million less on the budget of the film. Despite how some people view this movie now, it was actually a massive success at the time, especially after releasing it so close after Batman Begins. The 4th of July week definitely helped out both movies.

(The first two Bat's with Keaton were nice and DARK) Dont go campy with the Batman ! Stay dark ! ruclips.net/video/L4HczEQaVCc/видео.htmlsi=fuMCm417Pf3kQte2
Your comments about the Thing suit reminded me that there was a storyline in the comics where Ben returned to human form and had to wear a Thing suit designed by Reed.
I'm glad they dropped the Wolverine bit. Not only were the FX very obvious, I don't recall any canon where Reed could mimic other people. Am I wrong? Oh, and FYI - The Thing *did* have a blind girlfriend back in the day (late 70s). I agree that I'm not sure the movied needed that...
Fantastic 4 exists it that perfect middle ground between the superhero films that take themselves so seriously that they're difficult to enjoy and the ones that are just jokes for the sake of jokes and forget they're supposed to be about superheroics.
I did some extra work on the TV show FOREVER in a scene at Bethesda fountain in Central Park, NYC Ioan Grufford wore blue elastic medical gloves. I was so hoping and praying that he would pull them off his hands by pulling on the fingertips and stretching them off. But alas, he did none of that. He pulled them off at the wrist like a normal person. It would’ve been a really moment funny for us F4 fans. 😂
I enjoyed this movie. I liked the casting (Julian McMahon had been a great villain on Charmed), and I thought that they told a fine origin story (so; much like Spider-Man, we don't need another one with any new FF movies). It was a popcorn movie, but so what. It was fun, I have enjoyed rewatching it, and at the end of the day, that is what matters most with comic book stories, that they are enjoyed. Every movie doesn't have to be freaking serious. Turn on your willful suspension of disbelief and enjoy the comic book film for a bit. As a PS, I picked up a bootleg copy of the Corman FF movie at Dragon Con back in the aughts, so it is out there to find in the world.
Fun Fact: The original Human Torch (created in 1939 by writer/artist Carl Burgos) was an android. Marvel owned the rights to the name, so they Lee made up a completely different character who looked exactly the same, with the same power set. Hello Johnny Storm.
cant believe this movie is THAT old already.. im curently replaying the GOW trilogy and im still at the first that also came out 2005 and that game is old old..and F4 came out the same year 😂
The complaints I heard were mainly that it didn't stick within the source material. Like Doom was introduced to early. It should have been a different villain. Personally I loved it.
Minty, have you watched the doco 'doomed' it's about the 90s film and #filmthreat very own Chris Gore was lucky enough to be on set. Also Fan4stick was good if you look at it like a DC elseworlds style of film. Also do a review of the second film, it's so fricken cool with Fishburne as surver
In 2019, after Disney successfully acquired Fox, the film rights of Fantastic Four were reverted to Marvel Studios, with plans to integrate the characters, along with The X-Men and Deadpool, into Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jon Watts was originally attached to direct, but later stepped down from directing the film after expressing his desire to take a "break" from superhero films. Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 2, 2025, as the first film of Phase Six of the MCU.
It didn’t fail the campy vibe that comics and animated series had. People forget that the fantastic 4 wasn’t a super serious comic like x-men or dead pool. The movies are a live action comic book.
Unfortunately Marvels "First Family" has never gotten the love that I deserved, I hope that this new film will be good and more faithful to comics that it's based on
Torch wasn't included in the first animated show because they were afraid kids would light themselves on fire. And you left out the radio show, which was great. The writer thinks he created it because he wrote it and the artist thought he created it because he drew it. The actors weren't the problem, the story was. That and the Thing costume. Needed a ledge of a brow.
Fantastic four is one of my favorite and I'm glad that I'm not the only person who likes it and I haven't seen the remake and I didn't want to see it the commercials I seen made me think I wouldn't like it
What I don't like about all the Live Action Fantastic 4 movies, is how they mixed Dr. Doom into everything and then they did a poor job with him, when the only thing that all Dooms have in common is how much they hate Reed Richards, and his comic book origins was way different than in all the live action adaptations, and like for the love of god give the man his conquered country, its literally the thing that makes Doom so menacing, that he can get away with a lot of stuff due to in some cases having diplomatic immunity, as he is the ruler of Latveria and he is pretty smart about what he does, but in turn the live action movies just make him out to be a buffoon that can't hold a candle to Reed Richards.
I've seen the Corman production. It has more heart, and a more true to comics feel. I don't feel a need to watch the 2005 film or its sequel ever again.
He would have been right….i mean the costume is kinda not that great but think back to the CGI of 2005….Star Wars Episode 3….practical was the right call
This wasn't so bad. The cast look great and had some fun moments like the bridge sequence. Chris Evans, Micheal Chicklis, and Julian McMahon were great.
I never felt like Alba looked quite right. Don't get me wrong, she's hot and even as a straight woman I was looking forward to enjoying a piece of that eye candy. Dark Angel, am I right? lol. I think the makeup/hair dept made bad decisions for her. Like her whole head is the same honey color, there's no dimension to her look. Those lips deserve some kind of color, even if nudes were in back then. Gime some pink at the very least. She's too pretty to be done wrong like that.
The Fantastic Four movie (2005) is underrated movie from early 2000’s comic book movies of the past. The film wasn’t as good as X-men or Spider-Man movies but I still enjoyed the film.
I do own The Fantastic Four Movie: The Extended Version as well as The Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer: The Power Cosmic Edition. (Which is a 2-Disc Set.) I enjoy watching both of them and I’m a big fan of The Fantastic Four.
I miss that show he had on ABC where he played the immortal medical examiner. Every time he died he woke up in the bay. It was a good crime drama with a dash of Highlander on top. It came out about the same time Castle was winding down.
Was he a STRONG man? *grows a large chin in front of Sue* Jokes aside it would be nice to see his Reed Richards pop up again in the MCU. Perhaps in this year's Deadpool 3.
I didn't think it was that bad of a movie when it came out and I think we all can agree it's better than the 2015 movie, now that movie was absolute hot garbage 🗑️
I never understood the hate for this movie. The first time I watched it, it was part way through on HBO. I came in at the part right after the accident in space. Ben's waking up & you're seeing from his point of view, so, of course, you assume he's turned into The Thing. And Johnny's there acting concerned but is actually pulling one over on Ben and the audience because he's still normal (for the time being anyway) I was immediately hooked😅
I love both movies of this version Fantastic Four. Both movies are much better than allot of the Mcu movies and the Dceu movies today. The remake later was beyond horriable and not to mention the crappy recent Mcu version. Also the guy who played Doctor Doom was brilliant. The movie is no no way a B movie. They had 2 great movies which is a hard thing to do. I wish they continued with this cast.
While I did enjoy this and the sequel, aside from a lot of the camp, Dr. Doom was what sours it for me. It wasn't needed to change Doom so drastically from his source materiel. Also, he suffers from the Stallone Dredd syndrome of a character that has no face being helmetless for the majority of the film.
I love the first Fantastic Four 2005 movie I saw it when it first came out as a kid loved it then and still really like it today some people don't like the casting I do personally I think they work for what there going for here I like the extended version also has alot of great scenes that were cut for pacing reasons put back in I like silver surfer to but it falls apart in the 3rd act
@@seanmacy8419 but they weren't treated as as Mervel movies at that point. They were just superhero movies. Also the X-Men movies were just a vehicle for Wolverine until he got his first stand alone movie. they only became "Marvel" movies when IronMan was released.
@@martyburgess341 Honestly whenever I approach these movies I'm not thinking too deeply about the specifics of what film studio they're coming from or whether they've been produced by Marvel Studios or not. If it's based off of and adapting a Marvel Comics property, then it's Marvel, even if it's a filmmaker's own interpertative adaptation of that property. So I kind of have to agree with Deadpool when he told Fred Savage in the PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 that he's "still Marvel". Besides there's always going to be some older portrayals of these Marvel properties that some fans might still like more over the ones Marvel Studios gives us, and the Fantastic Four could end up being one of them for what little we know so far about their upcoming MCU debut.
would say that the film is portrayed as worse than it actually is. it was a nice little film. Because it wasn't a gigantic hit and nobody counts the film as one of the best films, today's opinion is that it was a bad film, which is simply not true. Compared to today's Marvel films, which are 10 times as expensive, the film is many times better, I would say^^
I think it is so wild when you see how many potential actors were considered for the various roles, and most of them, who went on to play other characters in the Marvel universe
The Human Torch was replaced with a robot because the producers of the cartoon were afraid that kids would try to copy The Human Torch and set themselves on fire.
actually, that was false the real reason was because the rights to the human torch weren't available because at the time, they were planning a human torch pilot that never got made.
Weirdly I can imagine such a thing happening.. When the first Superman film was released there was concern that some kids might think they can fly and jump from heights too. That's why in that film he mostly flies upwards from the ground. He doesn't jump off skyscrapers and the rest, in case impressionable kids were tempted to do the same.
I remember going to the UK premiere at Leicester Square, and I was surprised just how much I enjoyed the film. I recall that during the pre-show talk the director stated that this was a family super hero movie, as the FF are known as the 'First Family' of superheroes. I thought that the cast were great, especially Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans, as they really captured the antagonistic, practical joking, relationship between Ben and Johnny. Oh, and Minty, the Thing's girlfriend Alicia Masters was blind in the comics, fist appearing in FF #8 way back in 1962. In fact, writer Dan Slott had them finally get married during his excellent run of the comic.
I remember loving this movie when it came out and watching it several times. I haven't seen it for a while, so I don't know how it would hold up these days. But I could definitely watch it soon and find out. :)
I honestly think the movie needed MORE superheroics. At least 1 more scene of them trying to be a team & stop a disaster or a crime. There's a chunk of the film where there's no action. Also, Alicia Masters was The Thing's girlfriend in the comics.
The Things girlfriend in the comic is blind... So that part of the movie is spot on... I really enjoyed this movie
You beat me to it. Touche'
Yeah me too
And Alicia is her name. She was in the comics and the cartoons.
and white, so it's not such a spot on movie.
He beat me to it as well but it was out 2 days before I watched it. In the comics Ben Grimm/The Thing married Alicia Masters. I enjoyed both the movies but not the 2015 one.
Is it Citizen Kane? No. Is it better and more fun than the later reboot? Hell yes.
Things blind girlfriend was straight out of the comic books.
Chiklis was the perfect Thing. And honestly Julian McMahon would be a good Dr Doom if they did him right. And of course the 90s Marvel Action Hour kept me in front of the TV every Saturday.

I LOVE BOTH OF THESE MOVIES!!!!! I will die on this hill
The scene where Johnny gets Ben with the shaving cream was something that I thought was very in line with how Johnny and Ben are in a lot of the comics.
Alicia Masters has great continuity in the comics
Julian McMahon played Cole/ Belthazor a Demon on the original Charmed TV series. So of course he would be good at playing a villain.

Ironic Hugh Jackman was mentioned considered in a deleted scene, Reed morphed his face to look like Wolverine
Michael Chiklis also came up with the voice of the Thing and did it without any help.
I enjoy the 2 films, definitely not Godfather level, but it's entertaining, which is more than a lot of movies.
Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2002 is still my favorite comic book movie followed by Batman 1989 and then Dark Man 1990.

This and Rise of the Silver Surfer were and still are fantastic.
The Thing's girlfriend being blind is ripped straight out of the comics.
@ 13:16 this Thing photo looks trippy. Did the Thing crack open is left wrist in this movie? I didn't think his rocky form had cracks in it
Your comments about the Thing suit reminded me that there was a storyline in the comics where Ben returned to human form and had to wear a Thing suit designed by Reed.

I wasn’t expecting this lol
A pleasant surprise
I read somewhere that Michael Chiklis actually insisted on a practical costume rather than CGI as he felt the effects would look terrible.
Good on him and I also like that he was a fan of the character too. He gave his A game with the part.
Yeah I agree he was good for that role and the practical effect looked much better.
He would have been right….i mean the costume is kinda not that great but think back to the CGI of 2005….Star Wars Episode 3….practical was the right call
Great actor . Loved him in the Shield .
Micheal Chiklis has kinda dissapeared.

And Snowpiercer
I liked it, it's definitely the best Fantastic 4 movie made so far.
The bar is really low.
Ioan Gruffudd is brilliant as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic. 😀👍
I like him > Krasinski Reed!
I really loved this movie & it's sequal. And in my opinion iv yet to see anything better in the way of a soft/hard reboot.
I just watched that movie a few hours ago lol
Totally underated and I don't think the world was ready for Marvel Super Heros yet.
By the time this had come out, we’d already seen the release of Blade, Spider-Man, and the X-Men.
This movie is underrated
Agreed
would say that the film is portrayed as worse than it actually is.
it was a nice little film. Because it wasn't a gigantic hit and nobody counts the film as one of the best films, today's opinion is that it was a bad film, which is simply not true.
Compared to today's Marvel films, which are 10 times as expensive, the film is many times better, I would say^^
I agree with you
Movie was awful. The disrespect dr doom got isn't good
And 👉💩
Minty, I'm not going away... We need to see Hercules and Xena.... 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I think it is so wild when you see how many potential actors were considered for the various roles, and most of them, who went on to play other characters in the Marvel universe
I love this movie and I love all this behind the scenes facts too
The Human Torch was replaced with a robot because the producers of the cartoon were afraid that kids would try to copy The Human Torch and set themselves on fire.
actually, that was false the real reason was because the rights to the human torch weren't available because at the time, they were planning a human torch pilot that never got made.
There was FF a comic back in the 80's Written/Art by JOhn Byrne tackling the kid emulating Human Torch theme.a very poignant tale.
I kind of enjoyed this movie.
This was the only i didnt see at the movies Rise of the Silver Surfer was the one i watched
I remember loving this movie when it came out and watching it several times. I haven't seen it for a while, so I don't know how it would hold up these days. But I could definitely watch it soon and find out. :)
I never saw the newer fantastic 4..couldn't picture it without Jessica alba and captain America
Mmmmmmmmmmmm Alba 😋
I honestly think the movie needed MORE superheroics. At least 1 more scene of them trying to be a team & stop a disaster or a crime. There's a chunk of the film where there's no action.
Also, Alicia Masters was The Thing's girlfriend in the comics.
Same year as batman begins 🤯🤯🤯 unreal man
