      As strange as it is, I actually kind of like this film. It has all of the charm that a B-movie provides, but just with well-known, licensed characters. I think there is a novelty to it that I haven’t seen in any other film of it’s kind. Not to mention, it really embraces the cheesy fun tone of the comics, that you really don’t find in most superhero movies today.

      There will come a time, when news is too much. When topics to talk about will run out, and Spider-Man media will cease to exist. In the meantime, WB will still be alive and kicking, cancelling their 18th project straight, a new streak. In that moment, space and time will not matter anymore, because news will come out sooner than man can possibly decipher it. And when that happens, the only refuge from it will be... A bunch of dudes stealing equipment in order to shoot for the stars and make their dreams come true. Yeah I need to watch this movie because it sounds like a great love letter to the FF

    The sheer passion from the crew is nothing short of extraordinary (Fantastic, even)! Having the actors doing their research and getting into the franchise they're adapting is one thing, but them having the unrelenting enthusiasm and belief in the value of the source material that were needed to forcefully finish the movie with money out of their own pockets when the producer bailed out is something on a whole other scale. This movie should be remembered as a legendary display of human perseverence, not as the laughingstock that it ended up as due to its deliberately sabotaged production.

      WB Studios has been behind the DC films since Batman 1989, Marvel was the one without a studio until they were bought by Disney

    If the 1994 F4 actually did get released years ago, I would see it either getting a review score of 3 or 3.5 stars. And a rating of 7 out of 10.

    I’ll admit I hadn’t really heard of the story behind the movie, and saw the title assuming about how it’d be a bunch of actors roped into a movie they didn’t want to make, but hearing it now as a story of passionate performers putting their all into a performance they believed would at least have been seen, only for it to be thrown away. It just feels bad man

    Watched a documentary on this, pretty sad for all of the actors to put in their all. Only for them to realize it was for nothing. They had to ignore some blatant red flags, because they were so optimistic in it.

    I was following this movie big time back in the 90's. I was so let down that it was not released. When I got online I was finally able to buy a bootleg copy. And I LOVED it. The movie had so much heart and soul. It was way better than any of the modern FF movies.

    As a kid of the 70s who every week planted myself in front of the TV to see Isis, Captain Marvel, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl and others (with George Reeves' Superman reruns holding our attention thanks fo reruns), I think we'd been blown away by this. So, yeah this should've had better production values as a 90s movie than 70s TV, but in the right frame of mind I think it'd be a fun watch. Especially now knowing how much heart the cast and crew put it and how faithful and appreciative they were to the source material (a rare thing in any decade).

    The kinda fucked up thing about the age difference between Sue and Reed in the movie is that in the original script, she was a fellow student of Reed's. Honestly don't know why they decided to age her back down. I know it's a nod to the Byrne run, but... yeah, could've just not done that.

    • @MrDevius2
      @MrDevius2 2 месяца назад +2

      I was the screenwriter (Craig Nevius). I don't know how you read my First Draft but thank you for recognizing the difference between it and the movie that was eventually shot (re: the age difference between Sue and Reed). It always felt weird to have Sue be that young. That was one of the few times that I felt it was best NOT to be faithful to the original comic book story. But I was not a producer so it was not up to me! Still, the director and cast did a "fantastic" job and I was pleased that the true blue nature of Marvel's first family made it from the comic book to Stan Lee's treatment to my script to the (bootlegged) screen. The unapologetic earnestness with which we made the movie is probably why it took on a life of its own (in spite of the budget and lack of special effects) and why it is now appreciated with thirty years of hindsight! Thanks again for your careful reading (and diligence finding the first draft).😎

    The theme song of the film is actually pretty nice too, especially the light motif piano version of it for the more tender scenes. Has some John Williams’ Superman in its DNA, though, obviously, on a budget.
    (Side Note: I would’ve loved to have seen this movie’s version of The Thing meet Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno’s Hulk. I did a quick edit of the two together, and they look pretty good side-by-side.)

    Between Warner Bros cancelling films they consider cheap enough to ride off. And Marvel releasing projects they can’t afford to cancel because every single one of them costs over $200,000,000. There needs to be a healthy in between, but I don’t know what it is? If it’s too cheap, it’s now proven that conglomerates can & will cancel movies that were staged away from being g complete. But if it’s too expensive, it can’t be changed at all because the project already starts out with the same budget an expensive indie film gets when it’s been constantly delayed. I’m kind of glad the superhero genre had a dry spell during 2023 because I hope it shows studios now that you don’t always need to pump in millions of dollars into every project just because it’s mainstream & associated with one of the biggest franchises of all time.
