The Fantastic Four Movies - Caravan Of Garbage

- Fantastic Four has had a terrible cinematic run. And in this compilation we review every single one of them. Fantastic Four 2005, Rise Of The Silver Surfer from 2007 both directed by Tim Story, Josh Trank's Fan4stic from 2015 and the often forgotten but always in or hearts Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four from 1994. Each certainly brought their own unique ideas to the table and I guess if you put all the elements together there's sort of one good movie I guess? Anyways thanks for watching!

Ben needs a raise. You guys are great but Ben's visual editing gags are pure gold.
I’m so glad he caught Masons #2 joke at the start LOL
Every time I go to comment, the top comment is what I was gonna say, but worded differently lol. I wanted to say Ben's *ACTING* is genuinely really, really good... Like his facial reaction to the special FX thing was legit better than most people in mainstream film could pull off, in that same scenario. The dude's brilliant.
@@thegrandbeef he has his own channel and has quite a few videos up now, FYI... Your probably knew that tho lol. I've _loved_ every *"Ben From CA"* video until the most recent one on Spider-Man 3. It was the only time where (and maybe this is just me), it felt like he was just talking me into a spiral of madness or something? I had no idea what he was on about, or if it was meant to be a joke or not. I only got ½ way thru so I'll try it again soon. Like I said everything else the man's created has been brilliant.
Thanks Ben!!! 👍

When James calls Dr Doom a crash test dummy and Mason responds with a “Mmm mmm, mmm mmm”, that’s a reference to the song Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by the 90’s alternative band The Crash Test Dummies, right?
When he said Its just a dark mountain range laughs.... that's what it is ..I wheezed and I never do that...he made me rewind
You are you a true deep thinker.
The number of times that Mason has name dropped 90s bands, it absolutely has to be. Like in the review for The Mask where he effortlessly rattles off like five 90s Swing Revival bands. Or when he insists James loves Radiohead.
Ppeotr😊hw
Actually it was a reference to a very similar song by a band named Blue Harvest. I believe the song name was “Green Trivia”.
It's so funny to me that Marvel was protective of the rights to The Mole man.
Fun fact: Djimon Hounsou actually HAS played the Black Panther. He voiced him in one of the Black Panther animated series. It also starred Stan Lee, and only had 6 20 min episodes.
But did Stan Lee write the lyrics to the theme song and was the song better than the Defenders of the Earth theme song?
I loved that black panther series
I'd be interested in watching that. Does Black Panther meet with other heros in the show?
One of my favorite shows has always been Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heros and Black Panther is one of my favorite heros now thanks to that show.
Those episodes made me fall in love with the black panther character. It was real well done
I am shocked he didn’t play T’Chakka or anyone else in Wakanda
I actually love the 2005 Fantastic Four. I think Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm was awesome casting. Also, the PS2 game is sick
I totally agree, I think I remember a Gamecube game and it being cool too!
@@imkayjaylea yeah, same game just on a different platform :) was probably on Xbox and PC too

If you watch the Spider-Man No Way Home credits, there is a huge credit thanking Avi Arid. When I saw that, I had the suspicion that he made them put it in himself.
I saw that and got a kick out of it. I took it as sort of a diss. Like “thanksss but now fuck off. “
Man I think the early 2000's fantastic four universe exists I can just imagine them showing up in the MCU and the whole cast is like "Steve?" And Johnny's like "Who's Steve my names Johnny, Johnny Storm."
@@andrewcabral963 The best trope is someone saying their first name, followed by then saying their full name.

The 2005 film is one of my favorite guilty pleasure films.
Same. It was one of my favorite superhero movies growing up despite how bad it is. Plus kid me thought Jessica Alba was really pretty and she was probably one of the reasons why I liked the 2000s Fantastic 4 movies.
@@MikeJr9284 yeah the plot is super rushed and the characters are essentially just cartoons, but damn if it isn't a fun movie.
I won't say it's my *favourite* guilty pleasure movie, but it's up there somewhere (along with the sequal), and I won't say that Jessica Alba isn't part of the reason 😁 There were certainly worse super hero movies in the post Spider-man/X-Men mid 2000s era...
@@Mr.NiceUK yeah at least the movie is fun, unlike many other post 2000 superhero films like elektra, blade:trinity, and catwoman.
Same, I also like the rise of silver surfer
Ngl, I have a soft spot for a lot of the early 2000s superhero movies that get a lot of hate. The two Fantastic Fours, Hulk, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider for example. I'm hoping with all the multiverse stuff recently, they might get some love in the mcu.
Ghost rider had Nicholas Cage, he could make watching paint dry interesting 😁
Daredevil is just a meme at this point. WAKE ME UP INSIDE 🤣
I understand F4 and Hulk but DD is terrible😂
You are joking are you ? Daredevil is one of the worst movies ever made
FF was good fun, DD the DIRECTOR'S CUT is a totally different movie than the valentine's day rom com version released after columbine, Hulk has it's charm but is just too f'n long and Ghostrider HAD good moments - mainly peter fonda, he killed it in that movie as ol' scratch lol
Fantastic Four (2005) is still the best Fantastic Four film to date. I still think the cast was amazing especially Michael Chilkins as Ben Grimm/The Thing
The incredibles
Maybe but Scarlett would have been better as Sue than Jessica Alba
Ioan gruffod is probably the best casting for Reed Richards ever.
@@ohafomob him and John Krasinski I cant see any other actors playing Reed Richards
@@biguy617 I could see that working but I still think Jessica was really good as Sue Storm but the studio treated her very poorly though I think that's why she wasn't as good as she could've been.
Re: Spraying Johnny with fire extinguishers. I remember an episode of one of the Fantastic Four cartoons where I think Doom captured the Fan Four. He utterly defeats Johnny, Reed, and Sue but locking them in glass tubes. Johnny's tube has a sprinkler system that puts him out, Reed is just screwed because he's in a glass tube, and Sue can't go anywhere because she's also easily defeated by a glass tube. I can't remember what he did to Ben, but if it were a thicker glass tube, I wouldn't be surprised.
Your description of the cartoon was hilarious. 😂 Thank you!
For Ben it was the opposite of a glass tube, it was a metal box that would squish him.

The last thing I'd watched Warburton in was Netflix's adaptation of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. I gotta say, he has one of the silkiest voices I'd ever heard.
The man is easily a great voice actor, the voice over he does on that show is just so damn gud.

Stan Lee trying to get into Reed and Sue's wedding is based on the same issue where he and Jack Kirby try to get into their wedding. 😊
Though we have the Skrulls, Black Panther and Agatha Harkness appearing in the MCU BEFORE the team...
It seems the Fantastic Four and X-Men's absence in the MCU is a plot point of sorts. Maybe 199999 and 10005 were always meant to be together but the Doom of the Fantastic Four's timeline (or He Who Remains) messed with it and split the universes at the seams.
I would love nothing more than a Chris Evans cameo as Johny Storm in multiverse of madness if for nothing more than just to confuse Dr Strange
Edit:
Where are my writing credits? 😂
Would love as well.
That would be fucking amazing.
Yeah haha that qould be so funny. Strange could be like hello cap, why are you dressed like that? And Johnny is just being his cocky self like whatever douce bag
Johny: Nice Dracula costume Reed.
Strange: Steve?
Johny: It's Johny! Wait, you're just some guy dressed as Reed if he was a Dracula. Didn't know it was already comic convention season.
I would love to see Chris Evans coming out of the shadows, us thinking he would be captain America, then Reed stretches his arm out and Chris says "Flame on!"
The Silver Surfer doesn't have washboard abs. Nor surfboard abs. He's got "Storyboard Abs"
Funny fact: There was a legit funny deleted scenes for Rise of the Silver Surfer that had Thing and Johnny help round up Sue's wedding and in a montage, there's a moment where a bunch of flowers drop out of either Johnny or Thing's hands and both try to grab them and accidently touch each other's hands, only for a photographer take a picture of them and the photographer leaves, leaving both of them to say "That's bad..." "That's really bad..."

If they're going to have Dr. Doom in a Fantastic Four movie then stop making his origin part of theirs. Have him already established as the ruler of Latveria and also have him played by Mads Mikkelsen
👌Perfect casting.
mads mikkelsen is already in the mcu sadly (villain in the first doctor strange movie)
I still think the optimal way to introduce him in the MCU is to have Latveria rise from the ashes of Sokovia. Have Doom take advantage of the political instability and discarded Ultron tech to build up his dictatorship. Throw in a montage at the start of the movie showing his rise to power, set to a speech that ends something like "We will show the world Latveria will not be pushed around like the Sokovia of old! Soon the world will know and fear the name Victor von Doom!"
@@TheKillerStove already better than the past year of the MCU
It's a shame there isn't some way to hide his face, so people won't be caught up in why Doctor Doom looks like that one guy from Doctor Strange.
Back in 1993 I was writing a few things for Marvel while living in NYC. As a result I was invited to the Marvel Xmas Party for staff & family. They had a guy dressed in The Thing costume wandering around. For all I know the actual actor was in it. Someone mentioned there was going to be a FF movie.
You guys make the kinda podcast that is really inspiring for others who are on the fence about doing one themselves but maybe have little to no experience. Because, this is one that just makes doing a podcast sound super easy. Just a couple bros hanging out having fun talking about cool shit! But, as a listener of many podcasts I've come to believe that the easier it sounds to make the harder it actually was on the creators. So many things factor in that need to click all at once and plus having some banger editors doesn't hurt a bit! This show is fantastic, it's become a weekly event for me!
Thanks Johnny that’s really kind of you to say! Honestly the recording it’s the that difficult because Maso is really easy to bounce off and can make everything funny. There is though more research that goes into these than people might think and the editing is really labor intensive. Appreciate the support mate!
Ironically, the film with the lowest budget and was never intended to be released was most accurate and faithful to the Fantastic Four comics than the 3 other more significantly expensive and higher produced movies made by Fox.
Doomed was really great, and it was honestly crappy how the cast basically handled their own PR for a film was never released.
@jamesrutherford1475past to present tense.
Are you willfully dense or were you just trying to engage in conversation?
As a kid, I really liked Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes (the 2006 animated series)
They only had one 26 episode season, so it'd be a gas to hear your thoughts on it.
My uncle was deployed in the Middle East in the early 2000s and bought a bootleg copy of what he thought was Fantastic 4 (2005) from a street vendor as it was labeled as such. Turns out it was a VHS copy of the 1994 version that was then recorded with a camcorder and burned onto a disk.

I just noticed Stan Lee was reading the Mallrats script on the bus in Captain Marvel, which he would have done in the 90's!
Time to watch these another hundred times because they're in a different format now!
Back in 2010, I thought casting Chris Evans as Captain America was a super weird choice because I’d only seen him in the Fantastic Four movies. Man was I wrong. Also, that guy’s got more range than anyone that buff has any right to be.
It was an understandable reaction to have, I think people forget sometimes he was mostly known for playing good looking douchebags before getting cast as Cap. Hell dude even played one in a parody movie.
Same I felt he was too good looking to be cap but boy did he prove me wrong
Am I the only one that likes the 2005 Fantastic Four movie? I actually like how light hearted it is and who they got to play them
I was too young to understand they were bad at the time. I've not watched it since and I never will because then I'll realise how bad they are lmao
It was actually an okay adaptation of the 4 that stayed pretty faithful to what they were in the comics. I thought the Extended cut helped me enjoy it. :)
It was the only superhero movie I saw as a kid that didn't scare the crap out of me. (Dafoe's Goblin was just to real for my 7-year old brain)
I thought it was a good take especially for the time. Thought it was well cast, the costumes were good and orgin stuff was good. The start was really good IMO just let down a little towards the end.
@@KikBlava there's extended cuts of them?! What are the notable changes?
The movies was fun ish beside the new one and the problem with Doctor Doom origin in the movies is they always try to shoehorn him into the Fantastic Four origin and messing up his full potential

Fant4stic had a few really cool ideas, but the actually story was so bad. It's very clear that FOX only wanted to hang on to their film rights for the characters, which turned out incredibly well for them. Technically, Disney didn't buy the film rights to the Fantastic 4, they just bought FOX.
The latest edition of F4 film suffers from the same trope a lot of Hollywood suffers from now. Soullessness. All these movies are the same. Sounds like Josh Trank actually wanted to make a fun Fantastic 4 film.
Judging by actors like Henry Cavill and his experience with similar production issues...
The fact he wanted to make Doom a dictator in his home country with Doom bots and classic comic twists of "He was a bot all along".
He wanted to add Herbie and the floating car, so clearly he has done some research at the very least. Not to mention he was going to throw a curveball on the idea of Galactus and his herald. Maybe he was trying to give fans a true Galactus after the last film just wanted a cloud...
I also bet you that he was not responsible for the whole "Black" Johnny Storm thing. As much as Michael B Jordan is an amazing actor, it seemed like Josh genuinely wanted Fan4stic to be for the fans. I bet you the producers didn't want a giant city being destroyed because that requires a bigger budget. They wanted DEI practices. They also did not want to film is many locations so they green screened everything and did almost nothing practical. They also probably pushed him to make the film more gritty and dark but cut out a lot of the moments he added to ground it all together.
I genuinely feel bad for Josh because the odds are he didn't do anything terrible behind the scenes.
Glad he is still making movies though. Shouldn't let the producers drag you down.
I 100% want to see the Josh Trank 2.5 hour cut.
One of the most well edited channels I watch. I'm not taking the piss out of ya.
Laurence Fishburne as the voice of the Silver Surfer (also Doug Jones as the body) is the only inspired casting in all four of these films. Whether Marvel Studios can make it "fifth time's the charm" for FF, remains to be seen.

Fantastic 4 (2005) is a guilty pleasure of mine. Hell I even enjoy parts of Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Silver Surfer is generally considered the better of the two. Not by a huge margin though.
I really have to wonder if Ben makes these clips of him suffering on a case-by-case basis, or if he just keeps a stock library of them on hand after knowing how often Mason & James try to hurt him.

Josh Trank makes me sick. He got handed the world and treated people like garbage. Selfish , entitled and spoiled. Who let’s their dogs crap all over a hotel room??? People like A Heard. I will never understand how people who are so talented get nothing but people like Trank take the opportunity and crap on it. Don’t blame the “ system” he got this chance and blew it. I can’t help buy die laughing whenever they do a bad insult and say “got em”
I read an interview with an FX production guy wherein he explains that the giant cloud we see at the end of the second film, was simply To disguise Galactus’s real form. This is borne out when you freeze frame the actual sequence on dvd. When Johhny flies into orbit he sees what appears to be a face, though it’s blindingly obscure. One can also see giant metallic cable-like structures within the cloud, presumably the siphons that will plunge into the planet to suck out the energy. It seems the intent was there to feature Galactus at some point, but it got axed by the studio. The ending of the film seems rushed and at odds with what had happened moments earlier

@@Csaba__ Do you mean the poll? I actually assumed this was old content, I didn't think the boys were back for another week. But that doesn't explain the other ones I've seen in the last couple days.
This all old, recycled content. It says "in this compilation" at the very beginning of the clip. The FF 1994 review is from March of two years ago, for example.
12:32 "But I think this movie wouldn't have necessarily hurt the Marvel brand from coming out. I think it probably wouldn't have been as remembered if there hadn't been this kind of folklore." Is a solid point. Look at the David Hasselhoff Nick Fury movie, or the Matt Salinger Captain America movies, or the Peter Hooten Doctor Strange. They're out there, they exist, they were broadcast. Sure there most certainly weren't plans to use those characters when those films came out. But since they're not considered "lost" or "shelved", there's very little interest in them.
I know this has been talked about before but it's worth repeating. They cast Jessica Alba as Sue Storm. In the comics she's white so they give Jessica blonde hair. Fine, it's not that bad. You cast Jessica Alba, just have the character be latino. Nope. As opposed to casting a white actress they then go insane for the sequel and give her blue contacts which makes her look so odd. I would love to know the decision making process that went into that choice.
1994 FF is cheese but its golden. 2005 & SS are pretty good

Track down a VHS version of the low budget movie Carnasaur has a trailer for this fantastic 4. I had the vhs as a kid and got super hype for this flick and never found it anywhere. Lol
I remember people feeling hopeful after 2005, not because the first one was good but because it was good enough that it felt like the sequels had to be even better. Little were we to know that it would turn out to be the best FF produced with the product just steadily degrading.😣
Fun Fact: Apparently, Sean Astin wanted to direct the 2005 Fantastic Four Movie. Which is interesting, cause he also directed a short film called "Kangeroo Court" that was nominated for an Academy Award.
