All to often you hear stories of funny stuff and bad DMs. This though, is the story of a DM that did everything right. This is an NPC that is the essence of what a great NPC should be. They are not perfect, fetish fuel or even the DMs idea. They are a spur of the moment thing that lasts whole game sessions. And sticks with the players for years. These are the kind of things that become house cannon. In all settings of your games. And this is why D&D is a game loved by millions.

I have yet to see a RPG story where that didn't end up horribly. The Tale of Old Man Henderson, for all the focus put on the revenge of the player on the Game Master... A throwaway comment in the narration by Henderson's player basically revealed that the Game Master he clobbered through Henderson was of this sort. One of the things that got Waffle House Millionaire's previous characters killed was disagreeing with the GM's NPC which was described as "Fetish Fuel Character" and "Dual Twin Katana Weilder".

    Oohgie the honorary Dwarf items
    Belt of dwarven kind
Your Strength score increases by 2, to a maximum of 20.
You have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to interact with dwarves.
In addition, while attuned to the belt, you have a 50 percent chance each day at dawn of growing a full beard if you're capable of growing one, or a visibly thicker beard if you already have one.
If you aren't a dwarf, you gain the following additional benefits while wearing the belt:
You have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage.
You have darkvision out to a range of 60 feet.
You can speak, read, and write Dwarvish.
    Dwarven forging hammer
When using this hammer to create a weapon, armor, tool, or anything else with metalwork, a forge is not required.
When using this hammer in battle, it deals 2d6 bludgeoning damage and 1d10 fire damage. Hammer is two handed.
Proficiency with a warhammer allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
    Boots of firewalking
These low-cut shoes of polished red leather feature golden eyelets and stitching in a fiery pattern.
They grant the wearer fire resistance 10 and allow the wearer to walk atop lava and magma as if subject to the water walk spell
    Gauntlets of the Weaponmaster
These gauntlets come in a variety of forms. Some are mostly leather with small steel plates, and are suited for fine swordplay. Others are fully articulated plate favored by knights in full plate. On command, the wearer of the gauntlet can store a single weapon he is holding in the gauntlets. When he does so, a graven image of the weapon appears on the gauntlet's plates. The wearer can store up to 10 weapons in the gauntlets in this manner. Retrieving a weapon requires the wearer to touch the image of the weapon he wants. Doing so is a swift action. When a weapon is retrieved, it appears in the hands of the wearer and any weapons the wearer had in his hands is stored in the gauntlets. If there is no room in the gauntlet for the weapons the wearer is holding, those weapons are dropped. The gauntlets can only store weapons; other items cannot be placed in the gauntlet.

    *Reincarnate* spell!

    • @TheAbruptdeath
      @TheAbruptdeath 6 лет назад +19

As useful and incredibly accurate as this comment is. That would lead this story to the ending of: "We resurrected him, and he continued along his journey to become a dwarf. Something that may or may not ever actually happen."
Resurrection's a weird one. Because in the moment, it feels better than losing a friend. The fear of losing something you love has been nullified, and nothing has to change. But in the long run, something special may have been lost, because it never had the opportunity to occur. I don't hate resurrection magic, not at all, but having every answer to every question turns D&D into a glorified session of call and response, rather than an epic tale of hard-fought victories, bitter defeats, and overcoming a number of hardships with a group of friends.

    • @AnthonyAgresta
      @AnthonyAgresta 6 лет назад +17

(Don't read the rest of my comment until you get to the end of the video, SERIOUSLY )

(current time: 23:09 i admit the feels-train has slammed into station HARD and i'm teary eyed (good rp is fucking awesome and the Narrator's delivery plays on those heart strings HARD, damn fine job sir) and then "That Guy" has a heart that grew 3 sizes that day, with a pocket full of Deamons "I need a favor, and I need it now."
    THIS IS DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

The DM improvising on the fly
DM tries to annoy the player to abandon the guy and not derail campaign
party develops emotional connection to NPC (Tip of the hatx10 to the DM)
and WAAAY later in the campaign a player termed a "That Guy" (who i suspect may have gone through some rough stuff in life) Asks another player they'd had an IRL falling out with to save an NPC the group had decided to abandon.

It was more so a joke about how I haven't cried in years since I'm much more emotionally stable now than I was when I was a kid, but thank you, regardless. To be clear, I now typically use more complex lines of reasoning to dictate my emotional responses, where I once was misguided by emotional platitudes. I don't regret this.

I shall ask my DM to include this special little ray of sunshine into our campaign. Oohgie is worthy of everything. He is a true paladin, blacksmith, and friend. May he exist forever more in eternal bliss, happily clanging away at his magic anvil. This is a great story to fall asleep to at night. Long reign Oohgie, the crafty-smith of the forge, and honorary dwarf.

I have been playing D&D for over a decade. I have played so many different games, with so many different DM's, and so many different characters. I have seen groups come and go. I have had characters that I connected with deeply, and characters I couldn't wait to be rid of.
This grandest of ogres made me cry. I am a grown man, a navy veteran, a father, and hardened by poverty.
I'm crying. And I'm not ashamed to admit it.

    Ooghie's masterpiece
    "Ooghie's Embrace"
This chest armor made of scraps of metal forged by big, loving and clumsy hands offers inferior defense, can be equiped by any class and is uglier than misery itself made for a beloved friend of Ooghie the Crafty-smith of legends part of a set crafted by Ooghie long ago, has two passive habilities, grants a 50% attack bonus against deities and the effect decreases after each blow remaining in 10% during the rest of the encounter, the second passive hability is called "Ooghie's wish" this hability activates when the health reaches 0, when this happens the armor breaks and all remaining durability is coverted in to health multiplied by 1.5 times it's single use and the armor breaks beyond repair after use.

Had to wipe a lot of tears away...
