Hi Dan, this video popped up on my playlist and even though I remember watching it years ago I watched it again. It was cool to see how far you’ve come and how much more comfortable you are in front of the camera. Good job
Haha yes it's come a long ways for sure
Thank you for the video. I enjoy your humility and openness. Currently shopping for a Scuderia and your videos certainly help!
Thanks Dan. Any things in your opinion to look out for? I know maintenance history is key. Anything else?
That's great advice. Where would I obtain a PPI? There's a Ferrari service center 5 minutes from my home.
It makes me happy when I find channels from Austin !! I really like your channel and videos man
Thank you! Austin has a great car scene surprisingly.
@@normalguysupercar Yes I’ve noticed. I see multiple super cars every week. Lots of wealthy people moving into town!
Also agree with you about traveling. Gotta see the world.
Hey guy
I really enjoy your videos!
Thanks for taking time posting them
You're welcome
Great work as always! keep it up!
Thank you, bro. I'm 30's and thinking to get the same Ferrari model like you & I found you here. I agreed with you that some people will gonna ask very private questions. I'll always be prepared for that lol.
This answered a lot of questions I had myself especially the insurance aspect. Thank you very much for the informative video. Subscribed.
You're welcome!
Really honest and down to earth dude. Thanks! Starting subscribe ;)
Thanks!
Great video - I appreciate your candor. Thank you!
I really like your channel, keep the good work!!!
Thanks
watching your vids. great so far
This is awesome. Thank you for the transparency! It's funny I am a huge super car guy and I'm in love with software too. Currently in a coding bootcamp and learning on the side. Also agree 200% with the vacation bit. You live the life I dream of haha. Thanks for the motivation!!
I got my all questions answers, thanks man.
I appreciate your honesty and grace in answering rude questions. Personally, I wouldn't be able to respond to those questions the same way.
As someone who grew up around Ferrari. I must say you give a very honest opinion, and you do it with class.
PS. Pays to be a geek baby!!!!!!
Dan, great video even in 2021. As a new owner of a 2007 F430 with 6,000 miles I appreciate your videos. It's my dream and first Ferrari, after raising 2 kids and getting them thru college. People ask me how I can afford one...I tell them 1) live within your means, 2) save, and 3) invest. You can have some nice stuff now, or (save and) a lot of really nice stuff later - your choice.
I'd love to follow your footsteps with the 458, although I have an irrational love for the 430.
Keep the videos coming!
Yes exactly! You have to sacrifice now for a better tomorrow
Great honest video! Great work and great channel
Thanks!
USAA ...Is the best !! I also just went through USAA for a new 2016 Ford 5.0 G.T.
Thanks USAA , they have been great to me & my Family ....! Great video , love The F430 .. !
2017 Austin car's & coffee should be good this year.... Take care....
great candid Ferrari videos Dan...thanks Kevin Pauza
Good for you Bruh, living the best life with your family...And sharing your story on you tube.. You're a very sincere person among wolves. SHINE ON, SHINE ON!! I appreciate people such as yourself..
Thank you!
Ah, it has a horse.....It's an Italian Mustang! LMAO. Great clip, love your F430! \m/
I actually work for a dealership with multiple franchises, and have been in the industry for 24 years. I have thought long and hard about something Italian just because of the values seem to hold, especially the jump I've noticed with manual Ferraris and Lambos have taken lately. I'm betting the values will start jumping on the autos as well. I ordered my Z06 on 9/11/14, and received it on 02/27/15. I have considered ordering the new ZR1 coming because I can order way back of invoice, but I have always appreciated the craftsmanship of Ferrari and Lambo.
How about the clutch life on your 430? I know it depends on how you drive the auto, but what is the typical life cycle?
Thanks for the sincere info. Like to get one soon. Hopefully I will be in Houston by then.
Cool answers, THANKS DAN
You bet
you are the first the answers straight to the point rather BS'ING like others. Thank you....
Great video! We met at Cars and Coffee in Austin and I'm just now getting around to watching your videos. I thought it was cool that you're a software engineer, since I'm going into a similar field lol!
CTO Salary in Austin TX is 195K and 272K
I totally agree with you about enjoying the zero-to-fast experience over the high-speed experience. I've had several high end and supercars. I've never been a speed demon, but I love having the high horsepower and torque - if for nothing else than to just say I have it.
The insight into insurance cost is eye opening. Awesome info on that.
It's not crazy expensive, but it's certainly not cheap.
Love this video
Great down to Earth video. For years I could have own a Ferrari but for some reason I am still reluctant. Not a financial issue but mostly a visibility, lack of privacy issue for me. I love cars and buy them for my enjoyment. Owing a Ferrari makes you very susceptible to all sorts of “social variables” around you, from people filming or taking pictures of you/your car, approaching you, etc. Perhaps one day…great video!
It's worth it
Wow, the insurance is actually waaaay more affordable than I figured it would be! Great vid!
Indeed it's not terrible.
Nice video thanks for the transparency. I have been considering a 360 or 430 for the last year. Any regrets purchasing it? You got yours at a good price they will likely go up by 15 to 20 percent in the next few years like the 360 did recently.
This guy is a true enthusiast
Thanks! :)
Nice Video. Watching from Germany : ). Thank you
Awesome! I need to go to Germany someday
@@normalguysupercar Sure : ) Do you think that the price for a F430 like you have, will go down in the future? I cant imagine. What do you think? I hope u understand my bad school english :D
Great video. It brings hope for a regular guy like me who wiuld like to own Ferrari in the near future. I am in California and the numbers are close to yours.
Glad to hear and if you can afford it, I say go for it. Do it while you can.
Hi Daniel, thank you very much for this great video. I particularly like what you said about travelling and I could not agree more with you. I also like your intellectual approach to owning your Ferrari and that is why I would like to ask you a question: I have been seriously contemplating buying either a F430 Spider or a 911 991 GTS Convertible. I am 50 years old, so no greenhorn anymore, and I am not at all interested in driving as fast as possible with as much noise as possible, nor will I use the car on a race track. I am not planning to use neither car as a daily driver. Rather cruising around when the weather is nice, and every once in a while accelerating fast from the traffic lights. Gas mileage, insurance, maintenance do not matter to me. What's so fascinating about these 2 cars is that they combine elegance with incredible power. The 991 GTS is said to be an almost perfect car and it is certainly very beautiful. But it does not have the charisma of the Ferrari, which is a legend, and also a very beautiful car though in a different way than the Porsche. Which one of those two would you prefer and why? Thank you! Best regards from Stefan, Berlin, Germany.
Hi Daniel, thanks a lot for your prompt response and great advice. I guess driving both will be the best way to find out which one I like best! :)
I fully agree with you. For now, i.e. before the test drive, I am leaning toward the F430. For the simple reason that the 991s are quite a common car here in Germany...
Nice video as I’m looking for one but what have you found the annual running cost is eg maintaining the car is , like what’s the service interval / typical cost
What have u found tends to need attention running 6000 miles a year or what are the things u don’t like about it ?
Ever had a Porsche ? How would you rate the 430 vs the Porsche experience?
Hope u are still enjoying the car
Great video! The financials were very insightful, especially the point about financing vs paying cash. I was surprised the insurance was so low for the Ferrari, the 6 month premiums on my C63s AMG are about 30% more :/
I'm curious... With a 6k annual mileage restriction, do you have another vehicle, do you drive the Mini, or do you just not have to do much driving / work from home? When I lived in Texas (NE Houston area), everything was so spread out, I put a lot more than 6k miles on cars annually. New subscriber. Thanks for the transparent answers and openness. You're dispelling some Ferrari owner myths. :)
refreshing vid... ty... honest guy.. regular joe that likes fine cars. . car same price as some high end trucks in Canada.. ☺
What after market modifications were on it and what options do you believe are actually worth looking for on a used F430? For the record planning on buying a spider in 3 or 4 years but doing my research now before I really start looking at specific models.
Subscribed because QuintonTV recommended your channel... or despite the fact that he recommends it... heheeee. I'll check it out.
Good video Dan, didn't realize Meg was a social worker.
Yup
hey Daniel
Keep the good work up man i like your video's and additude
i hope i can buy a F430 within a few years
i am now 22 years old but i hope i can start looking for one in the next 3 years
and hope i can get it insurd things here in Belgium work a bit els
but if my business continues to run as now it is a posible dream
greets from Belgium
And your video's are ;)
The similarities between your life and mine are uncanny. I'm a software designer and have built my life on building businesses around technology. My current business is a tech startup. Anyway, I'm a new subscriber and really appreciate a fellow RUclipsr with a channel like yours!
Daniel Hurlbert - maybe so, but I don't consider it obsessed. Let's call it "passionate" :)
***** - while "obsessed" may be a more appropriate term, I like to positive prime my interpretations to make me seem a little more normal :)
hello daniel,
did you ever consider abn after market back up camera and a dashcam with a rearview cam as well? thanks
lucky your in USA , in Canada loan is 7% anyday .... but this is deff my future buy thanks for being honest .Honesty is very expensive gift thanks for sharing with cheap people that was the line once I read by warren buffet ! good stuff
You're welcome and Buffet is awesome. Lots of wisdom to glean.
Liked and subscribed.
Thank you
Agree,,,, it’s not about how fast you can but rather how fast you get there from 0... I enjoy taking twisty turn and brutally accelerating my M6 to a 100mph....
Indeed
Looking back, this car was a great deal man.
Very nice sir, honest opinion. question? what would you recommend in terms of value and maintenance cost Lambo Gillardo vs Ferrari 430?
Since I've never owned the lambo I can't really say much from experience, but it sounds like both are good buys. But of course I'd say get the Ferrari because, well, Ferrari. Lol!
I put down 40% on my car, purchased new. I managed a deal which took care of most of the first year's depreciation. The other 60% I financed via my home equity line at 2.99%. Doing it this way allowed me to deduct the interest from my taxes. As a home equity loan is treated as a mortgage by the IRS. It was almost like borrowing money for free. As you mentioned, I was making well over 5% on my investments.
Nice
great video...very interesting...
Thanks
Well said, sir. All of it.
Thanks!
I live in rural Virginia, and sometimes get these questions driving a BMW 6 Series lol.
Nice vid. I'd preface each conversation with " I'd prefer not to talk about what I paid for the car or what
I do for a living".
Just have that on a T-shirt. LOL.
Nice video
Pls talk about maintenance costs.. awesome video.
Also, I have a RS7 and I live in Austin too, would love to cross paths with ur ferrari! :)
Hey Daniel, thanks for the very helpful videos....Im looking at a F430 Spider, but Im a tall guy (6'5") and I was wondering if the fit would be comfortable for a guy my size?....Any advice would be appreciated...Thanks....
I am 6' 6" and had no issues in a F430 coupe not sure if the spider top is lower or not.
WHO DO YOU HAVE FOR INSURANCE?!?! Like WHATTTTT!!!! that’s crazy good
I love that you bought a devalued Ferrari and actually use it
I bought it to drive! :)
Good info. More questions- how long does the F1 clutch last before needing replacement and how much? Porsche clutches can last over 90k+ miles, and not expecting same longevity, but curious what it is. Also, is it more than just a point a to point a car?.. can you drive it and park it at shopping center, restaurants, etc without worrying about it?
Daniel Hurlbert thx for the info. I talk to some folks at car meets and they mostly say they can't park their Ferrari really anywhere. I think that's a shame, cause I wouldn't want to just take the car to car meets or drive the car out and then have to drive it right home. Good to hear you are enjoying it fully.
Daniel Hurlbert perhaps. Nuther question- I have been driving manual forever. How much do you think folks will miss the manual using an F1 tranny? The Ferrari manuals cost like $20k more than the F1.
Daniel Hurlbert The newer cars with manual actually blip the throttle for you when downshifting, so no need to rev match anymore, but good to know you don't miss it.
Daniel Hurlbert yep...the new Porsches have that feature as well as holding the car still when you're on a steep hill so that you don't have to put the parking brake on to start off or ride the clutch. I'm sure other automakers have this now too.
Shop around for clutch pricing. I have one for sale on Fchat, Ferrari OEM F430 clutch for 2,100.
Good morning Daniel, I want to ask your opinion I found a 2017 California T it has a special handling package on it. Priced at 190,000 mileage 4000 miles. Is that a fair price?????
Ernie
That seems a bit high but without knowing details I can't say.
great summary. how about maintenance?
Check my other videos, I talk about the maintenance a lot!
Thanks for sharing your numbers. Mine are pretty much the same.
Yeah it's not much until you get 6 figures of subs
2:49 Shell and Chevron are the 2 best gasolines, but you definitely pay extra for them. (in my city, anywhere from $0.20 all the way up to $0.90 more per gallon)
Sounds about the same here.
thank you for the down to earth q&a. one question i didnt hear asked, is what is the average cost of actually using this car? making a driver out of it. ( gas, oil service etc. )@@normalguysupercar
When the car requires top quality fuel that's the price you pay. I can't run any fuel below 93 octane, and will only buy gas from Shell or Chevron to minimize the risk of getting shitty fuel.
@@pothead503 I live in an emissions region, so the best I can get from a normal gas station is 91. And, there is a difference in performance between Shell/Chevron and Arco/QT, especially if you happen to drive a direct injection motor.
I have a 20v blacktop 4age with individual throttle bodies. Compression is 12:1 from the factory. Redline is between 8200 and 8400 depending on the ecu connected to it. It sounds glorious, but it's by no means capable of high hp gains without serious modifications and lots of money.
My dream car right there.
Mine too
@@normalguysupercar
Someday. :)
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
@@MuffDiver71 thanks! And to you and your family as well!
Did you consider collector insurance from a company like Heacock or Hagerty?
No but I probably should look into that.
the real question is what is like getting this thing inspected and registered? what about reapplying license plates? have you ever done a drive-test in the ferrari at the DMV? or in texas's case. DPS?
what about getting window tints or new sound systems? I understand that DOT has rules but this is TDOT rules. Does your agent or mechanic change their attitude when they do the check?
Do you ever do any of the work yourself or you just drop this thing off at the dealer for service or any modding?
Go look through my videos. I do all the work on my car. I have yet to take it to a dealership. Getting inspected/registered is just like any other car.
Software. Similar to IT work? 650 was IT for about 20 years and he has a fleet of motorcycles. And speedbug also is in the IT field and has some nice bikes and a sick C7 vette also a trans am. Both these guys are RUclipsrs. So when you mention computers it's no suprise you can save up and get nice things like this. Hard work pays off.
For sure there's money to be made in software. The downside is it takes a shitload of work and some REALLY long hours... But eventually you get to where you can breathe a little and pursue other bullshit... Like this! :)
I'm planning on possibly financing one hopefully in a few years . was it an auto loan or a personal loan? I hope you don't mind answering.
It's an auto loan.
Thank you that was very helpful.
man do i wish ferrari prices were that low right now. been having ferrari scud fever lately.
lol, most common questions for real !!!
Daniel Hurlbert hahaha, ok!! just subscribed, will watch over for that video
The average Chief Technology Officer salary in Austin, TX is $233,139 as of October 31, 2018, but the range typically falls between $195,497 and $272,714.
Yup
Great vid!
Obtainable. With hard work, passion, and how bad you want it.... everything is obtainable. That's what I tell everyone who asks the same questions.
I'm in Sales & Operations for a large european company. Just acquired my new 981 Porsche Cayman S. Absolutely in love. I am like you.... my girl and I live what what we need, are frugal in some ways, and spend our hard earned money on what we love most. me = cars / her = dogs / us = vacations. We have a nice home just comfortable enough for us, live in a nice town, eat well, and all the bills are paid.
Watched one of your vids, and i had to check out some more. Great content! on a side note, what programming language do you code the most with? and any tips on starting a software company?
Do you have a work beater to just Drive to work or run errands in?
Yes. A 2006 subaru forester.
If I had that car I don't think I'd be able to go on vacation... dream car 😂
Daniel Hurlbert I don't blame you at all 😂
your insurance is crazy cheap.$25k down and $1,200 for car payment and insurance is pretty awesome. Apples to oranges, but here in NYC, people pay more than that just on a lease payment for an S Class, and they're a dime a dozen here.
Yeah insurance in Texas is pretty cheap.
try paying $3000.00 a month for a 800sf walkup in the UWS, that's what my niece pays
Hi dan, my friend just purchased an f430. I’m sort of a gear head so I have been elected by him to help him with maintenance. He has me upgrading the stereo system. I’ll keep u posted how that comes along. Maybe I could help with yours too
I already have an aftermarket stereo in it. But thanks for the offer. :)
Normal Guy Supercar thanks for the response. Did you do the stereo yourself?? I’m curious on what you did to it
No it was already aftermarket when I bought it.
great vid:) I'm thinking about putting a deposit down for a 911 gt3.... play with it for 6 months..put a 1k miles and pass it to the next owner before I lose my shirt over it. good luck with your car. :)
xy z You must be a loyal Porsche owner then who has poured some serious dough into your local dealership. Otherwise, you don't just put a deposit down and get a 991.2 GT3. Very limited allocations to repeat customers. And Porsche is cracking down on flippers. My hat's off to you if you do it. Get the manual!!
You just validated my point. 2 new Porsches from the same dealership is a respectable chunk of change, especially if it's a smaller market. You have to consider the demographic of the city. L.A. and Miami, 2 911's purchased wouldn't get you one. But in my smaller city, with limited wealth, maybe.
It’s crazy how timeless Ferrari’s are. I need help, f430 or 360 Modena all I care is about the drive experience. Mainly, what type of gated manual shifter I heard the f430 is “electronic shifter?” I don’t know what that mean. No paddle shifter or automatic. Just a traditional gated manual shifter.
Indeed
What company do you insure through? Any recommendations? USA?
Thanks for the quick response... I also live in Austin. I own a software company. Looking to pull the trigger on a F430 Spider by end of year...
For sure. I think I saw you rolling through Zilker park on Friday. I sent you a friend request. I'll connect with you there.
Why didn't you get a manual f430?
Is there a big difference in DIY maintenance on the F430 vs 548?
I suspect the 458 is even less maintenance but I can't confirm since I don't own one.
@@normalguysupercar I live in Austin as well and currently own an Audi R8. I'm seriously thinking about selling the R8 and purchasing the 458 or 430. I'll keep in touch. Thanks for the quick response!
Cool. I think you'll be happy either way.
do 430s have a targa top ya can take off
No, only a spider.
Daniel, sorry I'm late to the party on this video. I see your loan is until 2022 and you indicated 6K miles per year on your insurance. Are you actually going to drive it that much? And are you planning on keeping it until 2022 or beyond? If not, don't you risk being upside down if you are going to put that many miles on a Ferarri with such a long term note? Especially once you hit 40K, the kiss of death on an exotic from a value perspective.
Daniel Hurlbert Good luck with that! After a couple years, you'll be eyeing those 458's.....that's what us car guys do 😉
DH, we share the same philosophy...travel and see the world...
Hi Dan thats funny how people dont know what car it is from looking at the prancing horse badge. In regards to the fuel we have 98 Octane in Australia. Do you not have that in the US ? Also I googled CTOs salary in Texas and thought you might be interested to know that a similar role in Australia pays roughly 50%++ more money. Also wages in Australia are generally higher here than the rest of the US or Europe. So might be something to consider if your interested in relocating. However the cost of everything here is also much higher including cars. The cheapest Ferrari 430 I could find here is $150K compared to yours around $100K in the US
+Alfa Won if I was ever going to move to another country, Australia is probably the only one on the list. However at this point I'm pretty happy here in the good ole US of A. 😎🇺🇲
Actually I am trying to relocate to the US myself ! to be with my relatives in SFO they have a collection of Ferraris, Porsches, Maseratis and Mercs etc
+Alfa Won nice! Well if you ever make it over to Texas, ping me. 😎
Yes I will ! cheers - same if you come to Australia
I don't see how it is funny honestly, not everyone knows what cars are what no matter the visible emblem.
It is in part why those brands have started to add wording to their cars to increase visibility to what the car brand actually is. Versus just sticking a random obscure emblem on it.
(I know a ton about cars so I would know what it is based more on the body than the emblems myself, but there are people who would also just see it as just another car. )
still only 400 more per year than my g37x, new jersey insurance is so great... also its a subjective thing but if you have a 6 figure car AND can afford to not have to sleep inside said car your rich. fyi he makes around 200,000$ a year, sorry but your rich lol(especially in texas, living in the shadow of NYC is crazy how little you get for your money here). one more thing 5:35 big tv's have gotten extremely cheap lately, you should prob look into that, i saw a 50 something inch 4k smart tv for 400$ the other day in walmart.
fair point, just brought it up because you made it sound like big tv's will break the bank. everything adds up tho and we all have different priorities :)
I love my El Camino, but, also love my S-CLASS..
I like the diversity.
Your insurance price is incredibly low, on my Bmw i8 in New York I pay $5,200 a year, I was considering f430, the average rate was around 9k
Ruslan Musaev don't forget the age factor
You're over paying
It costs the same amount to insure your Ferrari in Texas as it does my Hyundai Accent in Boston.
Aside from people's perception of you changing, I don't understand the offense people take with "how much do you earn" questions. The only person you are helping by not disclosing your salary is your employer because you take the ability to negotiate out of the hands of employees since there is a knowledge discrepancy. Probably different for a C-level individual, although executive salaries for publicly traded companies would also be public knowledge.
I didn't mean to call you out as much as it sounded like there, I'm just saying in general it's an annoying part of the general US mentality that I try to overcome with my friends because I want them to have as much ammo as possible when negotiating new offers. For anyone who is interested in more real numbers, H1B is also public although this site is difficult to navigate because they don't consolidate similar job titles (even if it is one letter off): h1bdata.info/
Daniel, you ever have any issues with people messing with the car while it’s parked places? I finally moved out of my 911 turbo into an 07 F430 spider. Car is in the process of shipped. Won’t lie, nervous about the moments when I won’t have eyes on it.
Not yet... *Crosses fingers!* Buuut, I will say that Austin is pretty chill, and talking to friends that have lived or do live in Cali, they said how they totally have had people do shit or say shit to them frequently. So I would say it completely depends on where you live. Austin seems to be a Supercar friendly city at this point.
I’m actually up in Fort Worth...and you’re right, Austin is a great city! I fly and sell corporate jets for a living so I’m out here in Monterey California for a trip, back tomorrow. Thanks for responding by the way. I’m hoping the interaction I see will be good, rather than bad lol.
Awesome. I'll be in monterey next week for car week! I haven't heard much about how Dallas is with the car scene but I haven't heard anything negative so that's good.
I’m bummed we’re going to miss it! I’d love to see the Pebble Beach car show. Are you shipping your 430 out here? Also...please tell me you’ve booked rooms, already lol? We’re at the Hilton Garden and it’s over 300 a night. We were lucky to even get that.
We rented a Jaguar F-Type and are staying in an AirBnB house. Should be a fun time!
What about matenice costs?
insurance is cheap in TX I pay $1200/year for my 13 F150, $1000/year for my 12 WRX
Holy cow! That's pretty high.
Ha! I got the same chair from HF
Woot!
Is that a Pinarello in the background?
