major props to you for a) keeping in touch with them and b) not simply bailing when they had some troubles. Not a lot of people would do that. Most would just say "you bought it it's yours leave me alone".....
In Europe, if your Ferrari, Mclaren, Lamborghini, whatever has a service out of the Dealer, it looses alot of value....people runwaway from those cars!
Simon Baumann yes, but that’s something only car enthusiasts know about, for most snobby Ferrari owners, they want everything to be done at the dealership.
neitherlink Yeah they want to sit on the couch in their dress with their cat, drink a glass of wine and read the stamps in their Ferrari service manual
Even better for the actual enthusiasts that know their stuff regarding cars! Thank god there are a lot of rich people in Europe that know nothing about cars!
Wanted to put a a JDM grill on my Sti, went to the dealership and they wanted to charge me $300+ dollars to do it. I ended up doing it with my friend for free and only had to buy him an Empanada lmfaoo. Don't go to dealerships unless whatever it is falls under warranty
We just bought our first Ferrari California 11/18/21. It had 8,560 miles. We enjoyed it very much! I like to Turn up the musics and put the top down! We had our first oil change and battery change last week! It costed us $2,800! We only lived once so mine as well enjoy it!
great advice, my frst is a 430 coupe and it seems to run great , my only issue is that when cold its seems to vibrate a bit. i think the motor mounts are fine. it has 15k miles. thoughts?
I’ve owned a 2007 f430 the past 18 months and I have to say it’s been completely problem free. I’ve done one oil change. Put about 4000 miles on her. Totally over exaggerated about the maintains. Biggest thing is to make sure you charge the car when you don’t drive it for a few days because you don’t want the battery to go dead
Buying a car because it’s easy to work on is an interesting one. But I can see your point especially having owned a 911 turbo which is a complete pain to work on because the packaging is so tight
You *can* work on a Ferrari on your own, you just need to do more research before diving in. Most of the common issues and services have been written about in great detail on the various Ferrari forums, especially for older Ferraris like the 360. If the guy who bought your Ferrari had done even a little research, he would have known how to check the oil level correctly. The other thing to consider is the impact that DIY work will have on a Ferrari's resale value. It will affect it negatively in most cases, so be prepared to either keep the Ferrari for a very long time or accept that you'll take a hit when you sell it.
If you can work on a Corvette you can work on a Ferrari. It's just another car. The only difference is the availability of parts. The guy who bought your car sounds like he doesn't know shit. he shouldn't work on a Honda Civic let alone a Ferrari.
David Sounds like your jealous you can't afford to buy a Ferrari. I can work on them but I choose to pay my friends to help them out finacially. If I was broke like you I would have to work on my own cars. Very sad.
i think if i paid a lot of money for a car that needs higher amount of care, i would just take it to dealer. i don't think i would care about giving more money or being ripped off. one guy does something bad and it is just ample amounts of headache. i don't know how often people have difficulties with dealerships but i always take my cars to dealer because i just could not find a mechanic that i can trust with the car that i drive at highway speeds.
I work on all my Ferraris completely by myself and I've never had to change the oil - even a classic like a 355 - haven't a single problem for many years of use - I've even had my F40 for almost 30 years now - got one when it first came out and not a single thing had to be fixed... maybe its because they are Hot Wheels... that might have something to do with it...
Is it true that the mid engine cars are generally a bigger pain in the ass when it comes to ownership and maintenance? All other things being equal, is it better to buy a front engine Ferrari, or do they come with their own quirks given that they’re usually a V12?
I had a question u can just show up to buy a Ferrari from a person private party seller?would anything be reported of this transaction no right?just like a normal person selling a car or w.e ?I mean it's his car he can sell it to anyone right... and also can the seller put like a way less amount that he sold it for so u dont have to pay more in the dmv? Thanks
That's funny that you talk about the oil. I'm not sure about the 360, but the California's owner's manual has the exact instructions in it for checking and adding oil. You should always read the manual first.
LoL, those german brands are not friggin exotics (unless we talk about high end models, aka M8 / R8 / CLS / etc), they can handle lot more abuses than a supercar made specifically to race and surely you can learn to fix them yourself
I had this problem when I bought my 2007 Civic automatic... I had not driven automatic in so long I could not figure out how to start the thing... I think it was something to with parking it in gear or somenonsense
This lesson can be applied to all cars. Dealerships will charge you more than double and most likely a technician or pretend mechanic will be the one performing the service.
Hi Rob, Are you still selling the 488? I thought that car would be gone in an instant. Is the demand not as high anymore or is your price on the higher side cause you're not in a rush to sell it?
Why are their so many assine, doucebag comments in these forums. The guy is trying to help people out for God's sake. I appreciate the effort he's putting in and value the content. Except for Trump, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.
This channel use to be so much better I dunno wether it was the Gotham dream car back drop or the previous content but damn I don't even get excited when I see a upload anymore
Fish wire in a wheel bearing? it's an axle... Rob I'm starting to question your knowledge in these cars... It's a car not a plane and yes you can service it yourself if you know how. It would be longer then a normal car because there is a lot more involved like 10 drain screws for the engine oil that in a normal car has 1. A dude from L.V. did an oil change with his mechanic to a Bugatti Veyron by themselves you can look to have an idea what's involved it this. This is not a plane it's a car you don't need to be a scientist to change the oils and filters lol
In the hypothetical situation that everything goes as planned and I'm making about 130k salary, would I be in a safe spot to think about purchasing a vehicle the 458?
Rob could you please do a video on the Aston Martin DB9 lol there is a 6-speed manual DB9 near me and I really want to buy it but I want an honest opinion about them
Ferrari ownership for me has been a learning experience. I'm a figure it out the hard way kinda guy. If you want to see the car follow my channel thanks again Rob for the car.
Hi Rob, love your channel. Thinking about moving from my 90 348TB to a 360 Modena F1. Should I give up my gated potential vintage classic for a mass produced more modern F1 car?
I'm ready to buy my first 360 and I do have access to a Ferrari mechanic and I am a mechanic but not a Ferrari mechanic, so I know my limitations maybe! If you have a F360 or 430 thats need, timing belts, seals, gaskets , or exhaust work I'm interested. I have more ambition than money so I need the write car. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love your video's Bob, keep them coming.
"Taking care" of someone is $200 for a little hydraulic oil? I'd hate to see what they would charge that poor guy if he didn't have a friend of the dealer in his corner...
To be fair, they probably did some diagnostics on the pump, trying to see if there was a crack or something somewhere that was the cause of the low fluid level. He most likely got charged for an hour of labour (at ferrari dealer prices) and the cost of the fluid. Him getting taken care of was them not insisting that the pump was bad and he needed a new one. Not saying it's great, but it's nothing more than should be expected as the cost of entry to exotic maintenance at the dealer.
If the reservoir was just a little low, I'd bet money they just filled it, charged him a king's ransom, and sent him on his way... It sounds like he had to go back later for the actual diagnostic work and to have it bled. The weird part is that hydraulic systems that are power in both directions are self-bleeding... so, who knows?
Well let me ask you this Rob is it really bad idea to get a Ferrari? because you are telling us all the downfalls of owning a Ferrari. Are you even happy with your car?
Biggest cap ever well maybe i dont have a ferrai but i do owned an huracan evo and a 720 i do all the work on them not problem is mechanical just like any other car you just need to inform yourself about wyd that is all. I think ferrari is the same
You ust gave me 5 reasons why i will never buy a ferrari, i like to buy cars that have minimal difficult issues. i bought a porche when i was young and not as informed but learned from it.
I love Rob because he says "WHEN" you buy your first Ferrari. He believes in us all.

Word of mouth is extremely powerful in the sports car business.
In Europe, if your Ferrari, Mclaren, Lamborghini, whatever has a service out of the Dealer, it looses alot of value....people runwaway from those cars!
I would rather say: If the car has been serviced by an independent expert garage, that specializes on that specific model, it's safer than the dealer.
Simon Baumann yes, but that’s something only car enthusiasts know about, for most snobby Ferrari owners, they want everything to be done at the dealership.
