      @@weekendtourpros I use these irons, the os model---- im 63 and don't have the speed I used to have..
      it took a while to get used to the slight offset. ,i hit normally and try not to compensate my grip or swing to it. what is your experience in that issue? thx

    • @weekendtourpros
      @weekendtourpros  6 месяцев назад +1

      @keendeesjarlais3636 Hi Keen! Where I test and hit a lot of clubs, I can honestly say I’ve got to a point now where I don’t consciously change anything about my swing as I go from a super game improvement club to even testing a blade. I’m sure that over the course of a few swings my body may make some subconscious minor adjustments but I couldn’t honestly tell you that I’ve ever noticed it! So my advice would be to swing your swing and let the club do the work! 👍🏼

Not sure if it helps at all, but in my latest video reviewing the Mizuno JPX923 Hot Metal irons, if you skip to 10:23 in that video you’ll see a comparison of all the irons I’ve tested lately and that might offer some quick comparison for you! Luke, excellent video--thank you for the presentation. I recently ordered a set of these in 6-G wedge. Just to let you know, those white stripes in the grooves are apparently a feature of all Callaway irons, as my ages-old X-18s have them, too. My guess: they're a visible way of letting you know you need to clean your grooves. Cheers.

      My Paul! Thank you for watching, for commenting and your kind words - I’m still new to this so trying to learn with every video so really appreciate the feedback!
      That’s great to know about the white stripes in the Callaway grooves! I remember the X18s as a friend had them but I guess you don’t look close enough at the club to spot the white groove line! I really like your theory about why they are there… that would make sense! What it does tell me is that such a subtle thing could be helpful to golfers for a variety of reasons - as I found it really easy to align the club ‘square’ or perpendicular to my target line because of it! Thanks again, Luke!

    Have had the ST Max for the past year. Really enjoy the clubs, but have had an issue with the adhesive for the decorative plastic in the cavity failing and sending the piece flying. Granted I’m swinging them in 15° F winter temperatures. Still disappointing with a iron in this price range

      Hi Nic! Thanks for watching the video and for your comment! That’s really frustrating to hear! Have you contacted the place you got the irons from? I once had an issue with the glue on the face insert on an Odyssey putter (owned by Callaway) causing it to come loose and Callaway were incredible in their customer service. Replaced it with a brand new putter through the shop I bought it from… My experience was in the UK, assuming based on the temps you’re based elsewhere but it’s definitely worth a try! Thanks Luke!

    I tested these at Portsmouth recently. Also tested the Titleist T200 and Srixson ZX5 all in the 7 iron. The Calloway flew 180y compared to the other two around 160y. It has a bit of a buffer / trampoline effect compared with the T22 which I liked best. Incredibly forgiving and long irons though, possibly too little feel for me.

    How did the GI irons actually hold the greens?

    • @weekendtourpros
      @weekendtourpros  Год назад +2

      Hi Ted! Thanks for watching the video and for the great question and sorry I’ve only just seen it! I think I’ve seen varying results from different irons… some of the really long GI irons i think you’d end up clubbing down due to the “longer” distances whilst others that have tried to maintain loft (relative to todays irons) have managed to increase launch, peak heights and maintain enough spin to hold greens, in my opinion. In the latter camp the G425 irons I hit last year and even the new Stealth HD performed strong in those categories! Hope that helps! Thanks for watching! Luke

    Hi Luke, Do you just test with the 7 iron, I’m fairly consistent with that club but be interested to see the variances with a 3 or 4 iron which are harder to hit?

    • @weekendtourpros
      @weekendtourpros  2 года назад +2

      Hi Tony! Thanks for watching and for the comment! Sadly most manufacturers only provide a 7i to the fitting centres as that seems to be the standard approach to fitting irons… so unfortunately that’s all I can get my hands on for now!
      I know that the more well known RUclipsrs get sent 2/3 of the irons to give that range from a harder to hit iron (such as a 4-5 iron like you say) through to the 9 iron or PW.
      Hopefully one day I’ll be able to get to this level of testing but for now I’m just grateful to Portsmouth Golf Centre for letting me use their fitting bay and the equipment the manufacturers give them to test with!
      All the best Tony and thanks again for watching!

      I doubt the 4 and 3 irons are usable with these. 6 iron down to A-wedge would be good.

    • @weekendtourpros
      @weekendtourpros  2 года назад +1

      @@tomb9658 Hi TomB! Thanks for the comment and for watching the video! Yeah I do tend to agree, however this is more to do with the spin as the launch, peak heights and land angles were really good! Another option is for lower handicap players to make a combo set where they use the 4-5 iron from this set for extra forgiveness etc and then the rest of the irons and wedge from another…

    @sadoldgit313 Год назад +2

    Of course they’re long! 41 degree PW? Thats a 9 iron. 36.5 degree 9 iron? Thats an 8! This really should be false advertising but all the companies seem to get away with it! Hellfire, their AW is 46degrees!

    • @weekendtourpros
      @weekendtourpros  Год назад +1

      Hi Sad Oldgit! Thanks for watching the video and for your comment! I don’t disagree and do talk about this in my other reviews of Super Game Improvement irons - namely that whether you’re using traditional lofts on blades or strong lofts on these types of irons, the most important thing is how you gap your bag. Traditional lofts often mean you need an additional long iron or hybrid/fairway and these irons often mean you need another wedge (I don’t remember gap wedges being a thing until these strong lofted irons came out, right?)
      However what I would say is that loft isn’t everything… from what I understand these chunky super game improvement clubs are deliberately made with low CG and to pull the weight low and back which ensures peak heights and descent angles stay closer to traditional lofts, despite being stronger lofts! For the less skilled golfer this can only be a good thing in my mind as it helps more people to hit ‘good’ shots and enjoy the game. Provided they understand the gapping issue it creates!
      Do you agree? Thanks again for watching and commenting! Luke

    • @weekendtourpros
      @weekendtourpros  Год назад +1

      @@tedmartinpadres Hi Ted! Thanks for watching and the comment! It probably doesn’t help that I generally hit the ball quite low but I do get your point! I tend to think that peak height, descent angle and spin are more important factors as more often than not I want to carry hazards/obstacles and then stop on the green but I also get your point that low launch is a problem too. Thanks for watching and for your comment! All the best, Luke

      @@weekendtourpros I too hit a low ball which is why I was at Roger Dunn today trying out the Callaway Rogue ST Max irons. • @weekendtourpros
      @weekendtourpros  Год назад +1

      @@tedmartinpadres love it Ted! You’ll see I’ve hit a lot of GI irons on my channel from last years models. In my experience I’m often getting performance that slightly exceeds my current Titleist T200 in terms of peak height and land/descent angle and spins are often very similar. Personally it’s made me think I’m giving up something by playing an iron I like over the optimal performance for me. I used a hire set of T300s today on holiday and (without any launch monitor data to back it up) I was again impressed with how easy they were to hit and performance seemed very similar to my own clubs. Best of luck in your search! Would be keen to hear what you decide on! Thanks, Luke
