Also sacrificing enemies Or damsels onto kali’s altar can get you a cup. If you fill the cup with blood it gives you one health each time it fills. In number 2, you can blow up turkeys, or kill them with fire to turn them into health. That’s not even everything. I’m slightly annoyed that his only complaint about the game was actually I invalid.

Excellent excellent excellent podcast. Easily my favorite right now. It's oddly hard to find gaming-related shows where the hosts are actually passionate about the video games they enjoy, and I've wanted a show like this for YEARS. Please keep 'em coming and never ever ever ever ever ever ever eVER EVER EVER EVER stop
NES Open was a really good game imo. 3 courses but it is tough but oddly satisfying once you get good at it. I remember having pretty competitive matches in NES Open WAY back in the day with my friends. We all love Golf in real life, took that shit seriously lol
He really does tho, he's on his Glowup while Mike is turning into a Chunky legend, out here with the side profile looking like a God damn pelican 😂 God love him
I wonder if Ryan has auto sprint (which is on by default) and isn't slowing down while moving towards enemies. Spelunky HD has it set up so that you hold a trigger to sprint, which you can also set for Spelunky 2 in the controls. Also, with auto sprint on, you can use the trigger to slow you down. The whip really isn't that bad once you get a better feel for the handling and game mechanics imo.
i feel u dude. ive been trying to give the avgn podcast a chance but the biggest issue i have with it is how they structure it and keeping everything on topic and when any one trys to talk about something "off topic" justin redirects them and says he has a whole episode on that. they didnt need to do a whole weed episode when neither of them even smoke. it was really hard to listen to.
Mike i cant wait for you to dive deeper into the PS1 catalog. You’ll love games like Rayman and Oddworld. I feel like you would get a kick out of the OG Resident Evil trilogy too.
I recommend Crypt of Necromancer Hyrule version (I forgot the whole title). You guys most likely have played it. Deathrun TV is a steam rogue like that’s under development but it has a demo out and I recommend that one also. It’s a twin stick shooter but fast paced.
The theme song is the corniest thing I've heard in a minute lmao Jesus. I'm here for it tho...its so cringe that it comes back around to hilarious and great. I can't tell if it's trying to be ironic or not and that's the beauty in it hahahaha ...btw some constructive criticism, or there lack of I suppose, just a useful comment from me is that the show is getting better every week. The latest about the Orc game and the space elevator one was fucking great 👌
I notice its in the same set as the Cinemassacre podcast; is this a part of the CM umbrella or is it a whole separate thing Mike and Ryan are doing on their own? Either way, it's amazing to see you both again.
Hope to see Mike try out either Spelunky 1 or 2 on his steam sometime, honestly my favorite rogue like game along with Shiren the wanderer and Enter the Gungeon.
Ryan it sounds like you hardly played the game XD. There are MULTIPLE ways I can think of off the top of my head that regaining health: 1. Turning in Damsels. 2. Roasting Turkeys. 3. Killing Quillback. 4. Sacrifing to Kali and getting some Royal Jelly 5. Obtaining Royal Jelly from a present. 6. Obtaining Royal Jelly from killing the Queen Bee 7. Obtaining Royal Jelly from visiting Madame Tusk's Palace. 8. Sacrificing to Kali and getting the Kapala cup that when you grab blood gives you as much health as blood obtained. 9. Going to the Eggplant world and eating Yama's Eggplant Flesh for 10 HP each effectively giving you a max of 99 health everytime. 10. Submerging Olmec in the lava and obtaining the Ankh Literally just thought of 10 different ways right off the bat of obtaining health Ryan. Hope you and Mike could Coop the game and give it another chance.
I’m glad this series is back, but damn Ryan did not do Spelunky justice It’s my most highly recommended platformer. I feel like you only scratched the surface. That being said, you’re looking healthy, dog.
Killing turkeys by burning them gives you a heart, also sacrificing multiple people on an altar gives you a cup called a capalla with it, every couple people you kill gives you a heart by collecting their blood
Just got into your podcasts and am enjoying them a lot, speaking of Indy, any chance of playing and reviewing Infernal Machine via the N64 at some point? Been streaming it recently and so far have enjoyed the hell out of it. Hell, bring me on and I'll talk about it hahaha
Regarding console scarcity, I specifically remember the PS2 being in such high demand when it came out that it was difficult to get one for a little while, and the Wii was even worse. Worked retail during the Wii lifetime, there were so many months of getting yelled at because "we didn't make enough Wii's" lol
Regarding roguelikes and terminology. The term "roguelike" refers to games that are similar to the game Rogue (1980). This includes games like Nethack (1987), Angband (1990), Adom (1994) and DoomRL (2002). All of these are turn-based games. Games like Spelunky (2008) borrow the exploratory and procedurally generated components from these games but are not turn-based. Therefore Spelunky and similar games were originally called "rogueliTe" to indicate their pick-up and play nature. Steam seems to call both types of games roguelike, using prefixes such as "traditional roguelike" and "action roguelike" to indicate the style of gameplay.
Have you play Spelunker Party on the Switch or Spelunker World for the PS4? Spelunker Party is so fun! I beat it last year with other 2 friends. Spelunker PS4 World is online only, sadly.
Enter the gungeon is an awesome game been playing for about 6 months and still haven't passed the game. Keeps me coming back for more to get that little bit better
Im really digging this podcast. When i found this podcast a month ago i binge watched/listened all the ones posted to that point. While i enjoy playing dedicated hand held systems i also prefer to play GB,GBC,GBA on a TV with Super Game Boy and other devices including rasberry pi 3. Im with Mike on battery poweree game devices that rely on battery power its kinda annoying not beimg able to play it right away all the time.
Pretty sure the Wii and DS lite sold out in the UK and were stupidly hard to get for over a year, the limited edition DS's always sold out straight away too, I even remember shops having to import USA DS games.
I played a bunch of Spelunky 1 but only got as far as the ice world. The mothership and worm bonus levels were super tough. The controls felt excellent though, and the game rewarded skill and patience. At a point I just had my fill. I'm picky about "Roguelites" but I do have some faves in the genre, such as Monolith (twin-stick shooter), the Hammerwatch games (top-down dungeon crawlers), and of course Rogue Legacy 1 and 2 (Metroidvania-esque). Same here. Can’t stand it when a game is made for handheld only. Like the Ocarina of Time 3D remake being exclusive to the 3DS. Or A Link Between Worlds. Just can’t get into it on such a small device.
It's fun to watch Mike's live reaction as he's playing a horrible game. For instance, the relief when he finally defeats the Indiana Jones boss and then the exasperation when the ceiling fire kills him. 32:16
Not sure what you're talking about when you say you can't play the switch because it isn't charged. As soon as you plug it in or put it on the dock, it should work no problem. I play exclusively in handheld mode and the battery gets down to 1% so I plug it in and I can play immediately. It charges as you play.
So if your Switch battery is very very dead from sitting in storage or what have you it needs to get an initial charge before it boots to the OS. It might be mitigated in newer revisions, but it’s always been a frustration for us when we don’t get on the console all that often.

The Flash master system game is okay, pretty good for it's time, but the best Flash game is on Game Boy Advance in the Justice League Heroes line, and the PS2 era Heroes title itself is okay, it's DCs version of ultimate alliance but with way less characters, but they're all better developed and feel more different so I actually preferred it. For modern day 3D, you can make a damn fine Flash sim in Saints Row 4, the matrix aliens one, there's tons of clothing options to design a suit and it has great speed running and jumping off buildings and such. There was a flash fan game based on the new show but I think it never got past a demo video.
I worked my ass off to beat that Indiana Jones game as a kid Felt awesome to make it through the booby traps at the end especially. Loved it back then but damn it was infuriating.
Spelunky 1 and 2 are two of my all time favorite games. I need to stay away from the Switch version of Spelunky 2 because it would consume all of my free time.
