I really love this podcast, I've been marathoning the old Mike and Ryan episodes, I look forward to this show every week! Thanks for helping me get through the work day
Keep in mind that gaming was relatively new in the 70s and 80s. It's been 50+ years since the first home console. Naturally these days there would be millions of games to choose from, making it harder to find one that multiple parties enjoy equally. That said, most AAA games are widely known and talked about whether it's something good or bad.
We used to make up games like just throwing rocks at a specific tree or a knot in the tree and see who could hit it first. Playing catch, or kicking a ball around playing "soccer golf".
Sonic and Knuckles is it's own entirely original set of levels, though. It's more of an expansion of Sonic 3's assets than a true sequel like, say, Super Mario World. You didn't need anything but a Genesis to play it.
Cutscenes were cool when they were novel and rare. Now every single game wants to be the worst movie playing in the theater and anything but a challenging, memorable experience.
My parents had a huge yard with three family members houses on one block. We literally had our own part of "the woods" on the property and around the neighborhood everywhere. Shout out to Jersey. I had a perfect balance between playing video games and also playing in the woods. Now I just listen to people talk about it on RUclips.
I love tower defense and RTS games, I used to play a flash tower defense called gems or something where you get different shapes for towers, I used to love it
Hey Mike and Ryan. Great content. Love your dynamics. Mike, you should avoid to get to near to the mic. The audio sounds distorted here and there. Never speak directly into the mic capsule (cause of popping sounds). All the best... greetings from Germany!
In Denmark, You can get a 1000mb internet connection for under 40$. I live in a very small Village in the country, and have fiber internet and Pay 38$ for 1000mb
I love Satisfactory. I have like 200 hours into the game and man does it have some interesting ways to change the game as it goes on. The downside is the game is incredibly intimidating like how trains just take so damn long to setup or how nuclear power just takes like 4 times the power of fuel to make power so it's a balancing act, it's even worse if you want to get rid of nuclear waste. The game still doesn't have an end yet. All we know right now it what we send up the space elevator is going towards "project assembly" which many assume is some form of dyson sphere considering Fixit is supposed to be multi-planetary and there is incentive to do such. The same idea was used to make the game "Dyson Sphere Project" which is just Factorio without the combat but completely built around making a dyson sphere. Heard it was also built with a really small team and has been in the works for a while. But that game does have a technical end game goal.
Mike, where I live 15/2 mbps DSL is our only option locally. Otherwise it's satellite. Day 0 patches mean I play a game a weekend after it comes out at the earliest.
Streaming games works pretty well in Europe where gigabit internet is fairly inexpensive and common. I get a 1gb connection for around 40 dollars a month.
you know what it is? EVERYONE complained about cable tv and it being so expensive or you didn’t watch it. now there’s streaming services for everything gland we now complain about how we miss the old stuff. which is cable. and it’s still around 😂
@Mike Matei Mike, can you please name at least one streaming-exclusive series that you do like? I really want to know, so that we know that you do like something on any of them. There’s ALWAYS something good.
Last comment, I know Mike likes paddle games as much as I do, and may be as crazy as me when it comes to obscure gaming crap, have you played the Atari Breakout remake on PS1? You can use a Jog-Con controller, the Namco racing controller with a small paddle like wheel in the middle. It works with 3 games, 2 racing games and Breakout. I recommend it for the fun game modes and weird factor that you and I seem to share a liking for. Sadly, the controller does not work for the PS1 Pong remake.
The genre for Satisfactory would be "logistics" or "logistical". Factorio is technically the one to bring it into popularity. In fact Satisfactory was originally planned to be a true 3D variant of Factorio but they shifted in development as they found things like the factory defense gameplay to be less enjoyable in 3D and was far harder to balance so they just scrapped ut
I moved to Indiana a year ago and my wife and I just bought a house on a state road about 6 miles away from a major city and fuck me, we literally don't have any internet providers, lol 😆 have decent 4g on my phone but any of these online things, yea let's just say I'm glad I have a massive bluray collection, haha great podcast BTW
You guys misted a point against Stadia. It’s not available in most of the third world. They had a plan of releasing exclusive games through Stadia. Google basically said f you to everyone where their own service wasn’t available
At the same time. I think James wouldn't keep up with Mike about video games now. Mike could eventually be a guest in the other podcast but I feel like James would feel out of place after 3 games.
If you hate cut scenes don't ever play Yakuza Like a Dragon. I played the first 2 hours and it was literally 1hr59 of me spamming the a button to skip the cut scenes. All I heard was how great the game was and it was a glorified talking sim.
Purchase JRPG Complains it has too much story... Well done smart guy, why do you wanna skip all the cutscenes anyway? Are you an ADHD riddled 8 year old?
another pitfall of early access: promises made but none delivered. then they start adding textures and a bunch of details on an unfinished core and it seems in some cases like they don't give a shit as long as ppl keep buying it. They get lots of sales, but they don't hire anyone. They take shitty decisions, etc. Funpimps being a prime example. Who the fuck sells an alpha in dev to a third party to make it available on console? That's the dumbest shit ever. And they keep adding shit but not what they were talking about 9 years ago. none of that is there. No NPCs, no factions, no real quests just fetch bullshit. they keep changing how this and that works but never finish the rest. 7 days to die should be held to reimburse everyone who asks. They fuckin suck ass as a studio and i don't care that they are a small team at this point cause with the millions of sales, they should have gotten their heads out of their asses by now
Currently I have Netflix, HBO Max, Paramount Plus, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus. I don't have the NBC one atm. And I'd rather watch Pluto TV than any of them. And it's free.
We need an entire episode dedicated to just Kaboom, your history with it, your strategies, how to get good at, etc. 💣
So glad to have you back in long-form vids like this again Mike. 💕
I really love this podcast, I've been marathoning the old Mike and Ryan episodes, I look forward to this show every week! Thanks for helping me get through the work day
I missed Mike's cynical, but usually dead accurate commentary on everything. Ryan is also a criminally underrated member of the Cinemassacre crew too.
They got sacked because their content got much hate
@@Kummituslinna Ryan is litteraly the co-founder and president of Screenwave. He can't be sacked lol
Glad to be here, love the stuff you are all putting out. Keep it up!
Best way to end my day! I just clocked out from work and came home to this! :)
49:32 Third episode and Mike is already doing ape sounds 😂 keep these coming
Best new podcast of 2021. Both are really fun to listen to.
Mike is a natural on a podcast. Unlike 3 other guys I know.
?
@@NoChillCC the garbage cinemassacre one.
When I was a kid the majority of my time was spent in the woods or fishing and then video games.
Hearing Mike ranting somehow makes me feel less old (we're the same age). Love this show guys!

The world needs more Mike Matei ranting and talking shit about things. The man knows.
We used to make up games like just throwing rocks at a specific tree or a knot in the tree and see who could hit it first. Playing catch, or kicking a ball around playing "soccer golf".
Reminds me of a game me and my friends used to play called football tennis 😂.
"You had the cartridge, you had the game. Nothing was going to add to it." Sonic and Knuckles?
Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II, Hyper Street Fighter II, etc lol
There's always one guy. REEEE
Sonic and Knuckles is it's own entirely original set of levels, though. It's more of an expansion of Sonic 3's assets than a true sequel like, say, Super Mario World. You didn't need anything but a Genesis to play it.
That's kind of the exception though 😑. It was a new concept and I can't think of any other example even remotely similar during that era.
Great to see both of you in long form! Loving the new content Ryan and Mike!
He's saying kids now don't have an attention span, but he couldn't sit through the intro scene of FFX
@Randominator Yeah, donation money is probably a good incentive
I don’t think he cares much for cutscenes, at least that’s what he said in this video
Cutscenes were cool when they were novel and rare. Now every single game wants to be the worst movie playing in the theater and anything but a challenging, memorable experience.
Bro Mike and Ryan are the bomb !! So glad these two are doing a collab again . Welcome back 👊
Mike talked about Zelda in the beginning of the episode before Ryan and forgot 😂

Mike not trying is 100x funnier than Justin trying his absolute best.
In regards to what?
Back in the day, the only game I had on my phone was 8bit Snake.
That is probably begin 2000s I think. Which was when i was 13+

hi, I'm Cody age 37 from California. Love the game spotlights & extreme game knowledge !
I was always playing in the woods in the 80's.
Physical copies and non internet dependence is number 1 for me.
Major league baseball. Simpsons. ...
Ive always liked talk about games. Keep the show going!!

bleeping the f bombs? If Mike can't swear.... his power level is under 9000
Anything with Mike I love! I feel like he played a bigger part in avgn then we think. It's not the same without him
Nowadays I get mad if I have to watch one ad on RUclips or wherever, so I don't miss TV with like 20 minutes of ads per hour.
In Denmark, You can get a 1000mb internet connection for under 40$. I live in a very small Village in the country, and have fiber internet and Pay 38$ for 1000mb

In Michigan temporarily. Internet is sub 3mbps 95% of the time. Can’t wait for my Starlink.
Great stuff guys.
I like the intro song, remind me of 90s sitcoms
No mention of Bloons Tower Defense? That franchise got me into the genre way back in 2007 or '08.
Since Mike mentioned Valheim, there's a free 1st person VR mod with motion controls for it.
Mike “Grandma’s Boy” Matei 🤣😂
@Mike Matei

"Mike: I have not played Minecraft." Me: But Mike didn't you do a review of Minecraft, with inspecor gadget, years ago?
I build brown bricks in minecrap
This is so much better than the other podcast its not even funny

Kid in the Woods ; the game. A ver of Rampage.
Mike would hate to go to somebody and say " hey this is cool but it sucks you gotta start over" lol
My internet speed is 11mbps so yeah my internet sucks haha
This seems like a universal certainty with 80s, 90s kids...we all played in the woods. Even the most random and nonsensical of shit lol
Hell Warders is worth a look for a 3rd person TD game. Great vid fellas.

I miss zapping channels on my old TV
Has mike played "art of war" on DOS?
I think Mike hasn't dipped into DOS gaming enough.
Dude so true about the woods lol used to always play in the woods with my friends and now yeah if you see someone in the woods..run lol
why the mice stand in front of ryan's face
Great to see Mike back!!
All I heard about Stadia is it not working and lagging etc. but maybe it does actually work.
LGIO: **sniff** this is not right. i don't smell carnage.
I can’t get games downloaded off steam to run 4K 1080 on a hp pavilion

I feel bad for the editor who had to bleep all the swearing that would have been so time consuming
Why does the laptop change?
I gotta say that theme song is really catchy
I wish Kyle Justin made the theme song
You guys should improve youre cartridge logo so it reads a little better.
Love the podcas, but you guys need a new theme song/intro.
The theme song is like a fast version of the Full House theme, vocally.
Just a little.
Lol I thought the same thing, the vocal melody is pretty similar just quicker and pop punky
It does sound like the Full House theme, it's in the same key and the voice even sounds similar
Everywhere you look...
The whole intro oozes “corny 90s sitcom.” Wonder if that was intentional.
I love SATISFACTORY, it's a great game for people who like engineering and efficiency
