Streets of rage 4 is one of the best goddamn games I played in the last few years. The music was of the chain and the dlc basically adds infinite replayability. I wish all future beat em ups throw in some kind of randomized proceduraly generated side modes
Yea man. I've been a long time fan of the franchise and I thought this game was gonna be terrible. Well, I was wrong. I still got it day 1 and was pleasantly surprised. It's not only a good streets of Rage game but it's a great game in general. I honestly technically think it's the best game on the franchise, they did a really good job. Music, graphical options, challenging gameplay with a more modernized combat system and all well keeping that classic streets of Rage look and feel. I still play it from time to time. It's a gem. One remake (or reboot) I didn't really like was Double Dragon 4 that released a few years ago. They dropped the ball on that one hardcore. It felt like a poorly done fan made game and I kinda thought this game was gonna turn out the same way. I really didn't like the art style of the new Streets of Rage when I first seen it but it did grow on me. I still prefer the classic graphics setting though.
"IT'S TIME TO TALK ABOUT GAMES, WITH RYAN AND MI-"... This episode was good, but bring back the actual theme song man. That theme song really pumps me up, I even sing it at work.
I love the banter at the beginning lol! You could make a whole podcast of just that and call it Talk About Names and I would still listen. I do miss the traditional opening with the teaser and theme song though. Either way keep up the great work.
I was watching the "other guys" podcast previous to this and was like "why do they keep introducing themselves?"... LOL Man, you guys are owning it. A LOT more charisma and a better flow.
Okay I DO enjoy the the "Later in this episode" opener being cut out because I find those very redundant since I'm about to watch the whole video anyway (this goes for all the screenwave podcasts) and I'd prefer to have all the context for whatever bit or joke it is but cutting out the theme song is CRIMINAL! I found it incredibly corny at first but it's an earworm I sing it in my head all the time BRING BACK THE THEME PLZ KEEP OUT THE "later in this episode"!!
That is because if they start cursing from the beginning of the video, it gets demonetized outright if I'm not mistaken. That is also why it is censored in the preview but after the preview you get the full curses without censorship.
I just want to say this is a great show, The content is beyond phenomenal and it's just something to look forward to every week, thank you to both of you for doing this fist 👊🔥🔥
atlest they are passionate about what they are talking about, i really wanna see mike become more than just "the guy that pretty much created AVGN" because i like hearing his thoughts on things without a time restraint like james lol
Love this show! Have you guys considered wearing headphones so you can tell if you're loud enough? I notice that Mike tends to lean back and relax but that makes him very quiet in comparison to Ryan. Just a thought!
Thank you Mike for putting me on Steel Assault. I had no idea that game existed and I was in awe when I saw gameplay. Heavy Treasure Games/Technosoft vibes which I absolutely love
When Mike and Ryan were on Cinemassacre, a lot of people disliked the videos where Mike & Ryan would feature. Now here, its deemed better even though the format is the same. Strange...
If Mike doesn't want to verbally say the names every episode, one idea is to just edit in a text overlay on the side of the screen with your names and the names of any guests appearing at the start of each episode. This way you can get right into the discussion, but the names are also there on screen at the start of each episode for any new fan who is seeing an episode for the first time (you can also do things like include an email or website address next to the names which might help people direct traffic to their channel for special guests, towards your new projects, sponsors etc.).
Holy shit, I had no idea Ryan knew of and was actually working with Programancer. That's fucking awesome. I pestered him a bunch when he started showing stuff from Simon Quest (which wasn't called "the transylvanian adventure" yet, and it probably is now because of legal reasons, and yet people probably still don't get that "Quest" is Simon's last name...) and saw him develop a lot of that, always checking for new videos he'd put up on Twitter. That guy is pretty good. He definitely deserves the exposure.
Thanks to this episode I finally moved streets of rage 4 from my gamepass play later to actually downloading it i had the first 3 on Genesis but was holding out because I didn’t want to be disappointed time to give it a try!
In the Archie TMNT comics April was trained by Splinter in later issues. It's not canon to the 87 series but it was originally based off the 87 series.
Streets of Rage 2 is my favorite Sega game as well. 3 is 2nd. The remake is the most fun of them all and 4 is such an amazing sequel. The juggling, music, specials mechanics, enemies, dlc, etc etc. It's so damn good. Btw cobra kai is one of my favorite beatemups. Also fun as hell and a great soundtrack. Another favorite beatemup I highly recommend is river city girls.
Help Mike!! Im stuck on Stage 9 on Mania + in SOR4. I can't seem to get by the Goros before the elevator. It's soooo cheap with no room to move and they got those unblockable fists of fury attacks. Any PRO tips? I use Cherry.
Great question by Mike on computing speeds and improvements over time, and it’s important we all understand. Ryan does a great 2 second off topic layman explanation, but there are still reasons for optimism based on stacking and integration and architecture type vs the pessimism of slightly slowing die shrinks. Even the die shrinks are still fairly strong as we approach 1-2nm. Short term integration, chipset stacking and die shrinks will continue but power savings and efficiency are shown beautifully in the Apple M series , a very big leap. But ultimately quantum computing, like the holy grail of nuclear fusion that’s “always a few decades away”, could blow our current technologies out of the water.
I rented that on the 64 after I ate pizza in a food court and a few decent restaurants and the games were really good for me too much for Golden years now but the real problem was the shit on my face asking if you can call the cops and say something about the late 80's
IKR ?? People got 0.5 second attention spans so even that short of song is too long. Crazy how little time and attention people have, that they already had to throw it out
There are a lot of cool but not very popular beat'em ups on Steam, for example, The TakeOver, Fight'N Rage or Mother Russia Bleeds. So if you want to make a beat'em up there is a lot of competition and you need to commit to that very hard. Also, If you need a great new block puzzle then you really should play Baba Is You.
I would also defend these smaller, snacky games. Not every game needs to be a hundred hours. I think it is a bit of a shame to not have some replay-specific features like hidden levels or alternate characters, but at the same time sometimes you just want to play a forty minute game.
I totally feel the cpu race slowing down. I am still pretty comfy with a 2013 i7. Sure it's capping the gpu a bit but i still run the gross majority of modern stuff at 60fps+ at very high settings. Imagine trying to run 2008 games with a cpu/rig from 2000.
*Mike : Just skip to Commander Keen 4* (the one Ryan mentions being included with the Gravis Pad is this one). And, no, it was never on Amiga. It was exclusively on DOS. There is a modern port called Commander Genius, but I recommend just playing the DOS game via DOSBox. Steam has the 1st 5 for cheap.
Mike needs to stop talking over Ryan constantly Like he’s Alex Jones It makes for bad tv On the streets of rage part It was like just let him talk ffs Wait your turn
Steel Assault is the definition of a train wreck. The graphics are a confusing mess, the not fully realized gameplay mechanics do NOT mesh with the awful level design and the difficulty curve is exceptionally sloppy. It's a complete mess.
Weren't these guys the man that games such a rippoff of insert game here, why play that when you could play the original but now their trying to sell homages lol bloodstained rippoff

This show really is where the soul of cinemassacre lives
This channel is only 6 months old though, it must be an old soul✌️

the actual good podcasts
These two have so much more chemistry. And its only 2 people.
Ryan is such a pro. Very nice to watch a pro conversationalist
"IT'S TIME TO TALK ABOUT GAMES, WITH RYAN AND MI-"... This episode was good, but bring back the actual theme song man. That theme song really pumps me up, I even sing it at work.
Ditto. Please include that theme song. I like it so much, I play it on max volume to annoy my wife every week.
Pumps me up too. I picture Ryan and Mike singing it. Could be their voices, right? 😆
Same, being back the song and make it longer !!!
You mean, the Full House theme song? Lol
Aww

As long as Mike says “I’m MF mike” I don’t need any more information.
In Ryan We Trust
These games may be short but it is one aspect which makes the game fun for me.
You guys got something good going on here with this!

Thank you Mike for putting me on Steel Assault. I had no idea that game existed and I was in awe when I saw gameplay. Heavy Treasure Games/Technosoft vibes which I absolutely love
If it weren't for Doom Eternal, SoR 4 would have easily been GotY 2020.
When Mike and Ryan were on Cinemassacre, a lot of people disliked the videos where Mike & Ryan would feature. Now here, its deemed better even though the format is the same. Strange...
