I have been trying diligently to get into this show... and I really have no issue with Ryan at all. But I can't help but compare this to James and Mike... and while this IS good, it just isn't the same. Maybe one day...
Nah. I don’t get why you people like James, he never added anything worth while to those videos, it was all Mike l anyway! And guess what, all the AVGN videos you liked, Mike wrote those!
I really thought Ryan would mention the In The Groove series while talking about dancing games- he did mention andamiro- but it was to mention pump it up which is fair cuz pump it up is fun- he coulda talked about the litigation between Konami and Roxor/Andamiro- also In The Groove 2 allowed you to play custom songs and charts via usb flash drive if the cabinet had what's called r21 on it (revision 21)
It's funny, I thought that Shredder's Revenge could have used more moves per character. I got spoiled by Fight N' Rage which truly does have a huge amount of moves per character. I feel like the commands in Shredder's Revenge are simple enough. You are never really asked to do more than hit 2 buttons at the same time or double tap a direction on the dpad and hit a button for a dash attack. Putting it all together in the heat of the moment on Gnarly can get a little intimidating but I never felt like it was too much, though I respect Mike's opinion. You're doing maybe 2x or 3x as much as you were doing in Hyperstone Heist, which as Ryan pointed out was the most mechanically complex of all the previous turtle games. But you are still doing less than in some other beat em ups, like Fight N' Rage and Streets of Rage 4. I feel like the only way to really play is on Gnarly. Tribute are aware of the taunt spam and they are trying to find a way to address it. I would love more characters and some kind of endless mode to be played for high scores. That, along with a taunt nerf, would go a long way toward making an already great game stellar. Great episode, guys.
one of the best podcasts around, very entertaining. just one thing: it just occured to me that the camera angle switches quite alot...maybe a tad too often :)
Rescue Palooza is soooooo much better than Shredder's Revenge. I love the old school graphics, the fact that they included every possible character and they even included funny extra nods to old school things like a Bayou Billy stage. There is nothing missing, everything you want - plus extra. And it's free.
I'm going to put this idea out there. A modern remaster of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Radical Rescue. The game would have upgraded graphics, new moves, etc. The biggest addition would be an entirely new area of the game. When you beat the game where it originally ended, you could access a completely new area: the Technodrome. The Technodrome area would be like an entirely new game, like Symphony of the Night's inverted castle. Unlike the linear progression of Radical Rescue, the new Technodrome map would be open-ended, like the SOTN's inverted castle. The goal would be to destroy the Technodrome's four power generators, but you could destroy them in any order.
Around 15:32 This was sort of covered in the best Nina turtles cartoon. From the.. 2006 season I think? The triceratons invade earth and the turtles are some of the only ones who can fight back. Not exactly rock warriors, but close.
Rescue Palooza spoiled Mike rotten. I haven’t played a ton of beat ‘em ups, but 7 playable characters seems a lot to me. I will say though that Rescue Palooza took a lot of oomph out of Tempestra for this game. It was already a perfect boss right there
One thing that would be tough about having a bunch of rhythm games too close together is that it can mess you up because you hear another game’s music. It can work with ones like Jubeat that have a headphone jack.
The big rhythm game here in Taiwan is some big circle thing. Not much IIDX anymore.. I only know one machine nearby. The arcades always have a Taiko game, but the big circle touchscreen thing is the big one. People wear special gloves and go nuts on that thing. There was a big cube thing by Konami for a while... Sorry I don't know the names. I don't play them much. Oh, you mentioned Jew Beat, that's the cube thing. It's a game about beating Jews. I forgot the name somehow.
Brother you had me at gundam wing and mec warrior. Much love and respect to the whole crew. Hey inventing a new convention is solid gold. It would not be easy, but success would be worth it.
Mike is like there's several characters but there should be more, then begins to list 20 characters no one ever heard of lol, let us play as some of the popular villains eventually like how the same devs did with Streets Of Rage 4, like Slash & Bebop/Rocksteady, Toka/Razor, Tatsu etc - they hit the nail on the head with the roster with popular & recognizable good tmnt characters 10/10 ❤
Thanks for talking about taiko. Crazy that I literally just ordered that hori controller yesterday. Was at Round1 playing some Sound Voltex, so thanks for mentioning that, also!
They need to make a new mode or setting on shredder’s revenge removing the taunt refilling the ninja meter which would prevent the special move spamming. Also the game isn’t as deep as SOR4 in terms of gameplay. The game is fun and very enjoyable. I want a survival mode as well to add to the replayability.
Fun fact both of these games are on game pass So I didn't feel like I paid anything to play them even though I have a subscription, kind of that Netflix mentality I guess but I enjoyed them both
Man I fucking love rhythm games, don't play them a lot these days anymore but I used to be a PC Stepmania fiend. The taiko game is really only fun with the drum controller, hard agree. Should have grabbed that bundle when I could.
Dlc? I don't want nor need dlc, I want more games like this, newer ones, pixel art with beautiful sprites like final vendetta. Don't ask for dlc. When devs do a great work give us what we want and the industry starts to go the right way you ask for dlc? Crazy world...
I bought Taiko No Tatsujin because i don't like regular rhythm games, but because of the novelty of motion control i put 30 hours already. The motion control is not hard, my moto is the control isn't hard, i'm just bad at it. so after 30+ hours of air drumming.... i still can't do the harder difficulty hard songs. but i bought every dlc (like a whale) but they are so good. while TMNT is a nostalgic game made today, i feel like i can't appreciate all the hard work that was put into it. so i dropped it. Until the cowabanga collection will come out. I think if they could've release the older ones first it would've been more cathartic. and i feel like i'll be coming back to Taiko more because of the challenge. p.s Taiko is so addicting that every song that is shown in the video i can hear the song.
@@mikematei Mike! If you want more Turtles I recommend checking out the TMNT 2007 video game based off the 4th movie. The game isn't bad for a movie game. It's similar to prince of Persia with fun platforming, so-so combat. It grows on you. I think you'd like the TMNT 2007 GBA game better though. This is a belt scrolling beat em up with RPG elements from what I remember, similar to SR.
DDR alone could have been a whole convention out here in Los Angeles in the 90’s and the convention idea would still work but it would have to be on the west coast and you would need to piggyback it on something else.
Mike Matei is the Yoda of retro video games. He left the 'Massacre at just the right time.
Nice Episode, as always. I like that Ryan talks about such nerdy stuff, and Mike is open for it.
Man, Shredder Revenge would have been such a fun James and Mike Mondays episode. Still cool hearing Mike's opinions
It could happen! They finally came back to beat Contra 1 and Toe Jam & Earl for 2 players!
No time to let’s play tmnt!

In this episode, Mike discovers that different people come to his stream at different times and that his listeners aren't one hive mind.
That's why Mike will always remain an obnoxious person. Thinks every one of his viewer is hanging on to every second of his 12 hour streams.
@@dm6905 living up to his reputation as M.F. Mike lol
lol to be fair most people seem to just talk about cum 90 percent of the time lol
Taiko is fun. Shredders revenge is fun. Can’t wait for mike Matei to do mighty goose or donut dodo for next podcast
I think he played donut dodo already. Not sure it was a podcast though, just a playthrough.
@@thisisnotachannel a stream but I’ll bet he’ll bring it up on the next podcast.
I love this thumbnail!
I figured you came up with it
Reo-Don, Rafu-Don, Maiki-Don and Don-Don!
Thumbnail is solid.
I called it, Teenage Mutant Ninja Taikos.
Solid podcasting with Mike and Ryan: -Hey, check out this pic on my phone.
-Wow, that’s crazy

Can't wait to see Ryan's Rhythm Room :)
When is Mike going to play Shredder's Revenge 2?
Did Ryan ever play The Penguin on AVGN? He would make a very good Penguin.
He is handsome 🐧
Are those drumsticks made of that hard 80s wood?
This is the episode I've been waiting for! Love this channel ❤️

I enjoying Ryan brain talk is so good.
I love Mike. He goes way back in AVGN
Loved the rhythm game coverage! Would be great to see a detailed video on various rhythm games...so many I know nothing about.
Agreed. Most of them I don’t know much so would be really great for Ryan to do a deeper dive eventually into all the ones he named.
One thing that would be tough about having a bunch of rhythm games too close together is that it can mess you up because you hear another game’s music. It can work with ones like Jubeat that have a headphone jack.

MIKE & RYAN! Lovely episode as usual, thanks for sharing your thoughts, much love- see you soon!
Taiko no Cowabunga! or should we say...
Teenage Mutant Ninja Taikos.

Now I want to hear Ryan talk about Rez.
To my knowledge Don and Ka are based on the sounds that are hit with the taiko drums which is why they are shown as they are in the gameplay.
Also can't wait for the next Taiko game coming in September

You can just avoid the taunt refill by not doing it. I hope dlc comes with other stuff like survival and new characters
I am pretty sure arcade mode the spamming is a little less of an issue

Ryan, your idea for a Gundam rhythm game sounds fun

It's a shame that this podcast didn't last. If Mike and Ryan replaced Justin and Kieran on the Cinemassacre podcast I think it would've been solid

I would like to see final vendetta at some point
I wanna play that - heard good things about that one.
Think the whole thing would be turtles but the kawaii drums are nice
I enjoyed both game the turtles games are excellent rock on Ryan and mike.
A musical mech? ... So would that be a gaming version of Carnage In C-Minor then? LOL

If only April and Splinter fought as much in the original cartoon.

Which character, beyond Casey Jones, would you want them to release for Shredder’s Revenge?
Mondo Gecko. I liked his skateboard as a kid.
Shredder, would be fun DLC side story for the foot clan against the turtles and team.
I was like "oh man DDR is old, it must be like mid 2000's or something" but it's 1998 and oh god I feel old. How is that game 24 years old 😑
A lot of the new moves are direct frame by frame homages to fighting game moves there are several youtube videos on the subject.

Does everyone from Philadelphia have a Don Vito?
