In this Video I explain how to get started with a Boss RC-3 Loop Station. I cover only the very basics. In the following videos I will go more into detail.
When I started using a Loop Station, I found it hard to get some tips and tricks. There were a lot of great videos, but none of them tried to explain things. So I spent a lot of time finding my way to loop music. That's why I decided to share my experiences.
I hope you like the idea.
In my early loop days, I started with a Boss RC-3 Loop Station. In the day, that was the simplest and cheapest Loop Station I could get. So I got one.
Meanwhile there are even simpler ones like the RC-1. But I stick to my pedal.
After I got my RC-3 the frustration was big. I didn’t have the timing and I found out, that I could either play guitar OR hit the pedal , but not both.
So I used it some time just to practice my solo playing. Later on, I began to play complete songs.
That was the time, I felt, that the RC-3 didn’t give me enough options, and I switched to a Boss RC-300. But that’s another story.
To make the start easier for you, I started HowToLoop. I hope, that this Loop Station Tutorial will help you! - Видеоклипы
The clearest most straightforward Boss RC-3 tutorial that I have ever seen. Thanks so much.
The quality of effective instruction is to always assume your listeners understand nothing from the offset. That is, to assume NOTHING. Proceed then at a measured rate, in small, clear increments without distraction. No, you don't even need jokes to endear yourself, your listeners are here voluntarily.
This guy understands this, so few ever will.
Thanks, from a slow learner.
A simple yet brilliant refresher for me as I haven't used my RC3 for three years! Cheers mate!
Nice video. You're clear, straightforward, and concise. My favorite characteristics of a You Tube video!
Simply the best explanation on looping for anyone who is new to looper pedals. Stephan tu es le meilleur.
Merci beaucoup. Dis à tes amis aussi! Salutation d'Allemagne.
Thank you for that very straight forward explanation. Looking forward to checking out some of your other videos.
Because of your tutorials, I bought an RC-300 and I will be returning to your channels in the future. Boss really should compensate you. Thank for sharing your knowledge with us.
You are welcome. Yes it would be nice if BOSS would apreciate, what I do, but I think they haven't even noticed my work...
I have watched some other instructions to use the RC-3, and this is the best. Particularly important was to learn that you must stop recording the loop progression in the first beat of the measure coming AFTER the entire progression is played. Nobody mentioned in the other videos I've seen! Thanks!
+Mario de Vivo Thanks for the kind feedback!
Thank you so much, Stefan. I used an RC-3 at Guitar Center yesterday and immediately saw the "recording > overdubbing > playback" (as you describe the default behavior) as a red flag that would be a "deal-breaker" for me getting an RC-3. I see several others have had this issue. Thank you for your excellent information. You are doing a great job of teaching. It is marvelously simple and direct to the point. And it is also helpful that you confess your own "learning curve" so people have more patience with themselves in learning to use it.
Thanks. Oh yes! The learning curve. I was pretty frustrated, when I started looping. I saw people do it and it looked so simple. I came to the Point, where I was convinced, that I was too stupid for making Loop music. So it's important for me to make clear, that it needs practice.
But it's worth it.
Thanks for the clear and concise explanations and the split screen, which adds another note of clarity. I know I'll have to practice to hit the pedal at the exact right moment; I'll work on that.
Oh yeah! That's the key to loop magic!
Thanks for watching.
WOW best loop tutorial. Well done. cant wait to watch them all
I plan on purchasing a Boss RC1, and I was concerned regarding cable connections, my amplifier has only one input. Ok, now my question is answered. Thank you very much. Also, thanks for info on timing and coordination of when to step on pedal.
You’re so good, you made it so easy to leran how to use this pedal! Thank you very much!
Zit works now. Thank you so much. I was turning the amp on first causing the malfunction. Ur channel is very helpful my friend😎
+Barry Ackerman You are welcome! Keep on looping.
Great simple explanation ! Perfect !!!
Just starting my looping journey, thank you.
I just bought my RC-3 yesterday and am going through your tutorial now. I'll let you know how it comes out!
Yeah! Go for it!
Wow I love that melody!!!
basic, simple , precise . nicely done
Very clear explanation, well paced for newbies like me. Thank you!
Thanks for the kind feedback!
The first tutorial on looping that actually is listenable and I can determine what is the loop and what is being played live over the loop. VERY important for someone just starting out with looping and trying to back himself (or herself) up on rhythm (the loop) and playing lead (live).
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
Perfect lesson series. Thanks you!
Very good tutorial. Thank you for your clear explanation.
Absolutely awesome 💙💙👍
Thanks for taking time to share your knowledge and help others. Peace.
Great series - well done for posting
Enjoyed this, so I subscribed. Thanks
👍👍👍 THANK YOU VERY MUCH 👍👍👍
!VERY HELPFUL!
Same for me: Not that easy to have a precise
timing to start and stop the loop, but extremely
important!
Thank you for this great session 🎉
Very good demo! Cool chords!

Great stuff Stefan. Just subbed. I’ve got a gig tonight and want to play with the loop.
When it comes to looping, this guy's the BOSS!!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for the instructions. You explanation is clear and concise. I received this looper yesterday and spent the better part of today learning about it and then - boom - I found you. Thank you. What was that super smooth song you were playing?
great vid very basic and educational thanks
Nice video. Straight forward and accurate
Great and helpful tutorials. Thanks a lot for your time, man!
Great to hear. I really appreciate it.
Boa aula! Me ajudou a compreender como usar o look. Obrigado!!
Very nice. The RC3 programming default is
Press and record
Press and overdub (record)
Press and playback
Press and overdub.
The pedal can be reprogrammed to be
Press and record
Press and playback
Press and overdub.
Beautiful song! Great videos. Thanks.
You're welcome! Thanks for the kind feedback
Thank you Soooooo much for these tutorials! My first looper ended up being the Boss RC300......Major mental breakdown! The owners manual is not very helpful when you can't watch someone actually DOING it. Awesome, Stefan!
Oh, so true! The manual is correct, but it doesn't show how to loop from a useres perspective.
That's what made me produce these videos. I spend so much time in finding things out, that I like to share with you!
Showing how to use the chord progressions was a great idea! Thank you!
+David Joseph Great if you like it!
Thanks, I was given one about 4 1/2 years ago, but have been afraid to use it!
Thank you I have just bought an RC3, this is very helpful.
Great to hear. Have a lot of fun!
Thank you!! You put together a great tutorial and play beautifully!
Thanks so much!
Fantastic. Well explained!!!
Very clear thanks. Timing is the biggest hurdle for me!
Yeah! I know what you mean. That was the hardest part for me too. But keep on trying. It will get better and better.....
Thanks Stefan, just set mine up tonight, great instructions
Thanks so much!
Great instructional video. thanks! Now I’m off to try it for myself...
Yeah! Thanks. Go for it!
Just discovered your video today. Thank you, it's great!
Keep on looping! Thanks.
Thanks a lot!!
It’s been very useful for me!!
This chord progression made me think of Kylie Minogue’s “Red blooded woman” tune. Great video!
Very easy to follow by..thank you

Thanks a lot.
I like your lesson you're a good teacher
Beautiful tone
Very helpful, Cheers!
this is a Great series and helped me immensely! i especially like how it starts by not assuming i already kno what a loopy station is? i mean, he even shows how to plug the little sucker in:) most loop tutorials i've watched start out with somebody immediately jammin.. and loopin.. and dubbin.. and i never can figure out wassup. so KuDos to Loops Unlimited!
That's exactly what I felt, when I started looping. There are so many videos with great loop music out there. I spent hours figuring out, what those guys are doing. That was my motivation to start the series!
Awesome tutorial
Great stuff. Now I just have to save up so I can get a loop station.
Great video
i like your style, and to be honest i need this bc i don't like reading instructions

Hi guys, I got a question: between the loops there is like a three seconds pause, can I get rid of it to have like a non-stop, continuous loop? Thanks a lot.
Excellent - I am getting one next week
Have fun!
Hi ... I just went to learn how to use the rc -3 loop and never got to it as I was taken up with your little rendition of your demonstration.
The tune haunted me enough to just try and learn it by watching.
Now that I can mimic your hypnotic music, I’m hoping this trance has a name. Would love to know the title of that song and it’s history.
Signed up for your page and hope you have other trancing qualities to come!
Thanks again
Wild Bill
Now in search for the missing loop station
Thanks for the feedback. Great to hear that you got into loop music. The music is my own composition. It has no real name, because it's not a hole song. But the working title was 'rainy days' :-)
best video so far
Thanks a lot!
Great video. Do you have tabs for this solo?
Great job 👍🏽
I loved you in Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia!
