Thank you for posting this. So I've been looping for so long though have found myself frustrated with the design of many. The basic Ditto rocks so much in terms of ease of use and playback, but it's limited especially for recording purposes. I've tried other dittos including the "stereo" (which I wasn't a big fan of) as well as the 4X which, after having to send it in for repair to reseat the memory card has been great for my drum machine syncing though is overkill for other things. I also have the older RC-3 which is okay though it doesn't have instant looping (for glitch sounds) - it's also not truly true stereo and while it has drum beats isn't MIDI capable so you can't really program the BPM which was a major letdown. I bought the RC-5 as soon as it came out hoping it'd take the good of the RC3 but with the MIDI though because so much of the volue and other function are in interface form instead of with knobs I've been resistant to use it. Watching this I'm going to give it another try - thank you for all you folks do at Anderton's. When I make my first trip to the UK you WILL be my first stop. :)
It’s worth noting that if you often don’t have shoes on when you play guitar, the stud type buttons on loopers are really uncomfortable. RC-1 and RC-5 best for the bare foot posse. 😂

Hands down he’s a tasty player. No bullshit just thrilling licks and beautiful tone. I only started watching Anderson’s once Chappers buggered off. His demeanour and freeze dried widdle diddle was very off putting. The RC-1 was introduced as a bare bones looper in 2014, and got the 1 because there was an RC-2 and RC-3. The RC-3 has only 10 drum loops but if you press Rhythm on/off and hold you get a) and b) versions of a few of the rhythms. You can’t compare the RC-1 with the 2 or 3 as it’s so simple!
The RC-3 didn't quite need replacement IMHO. Except for maybe the 32-bit recording the new one does. Also, it isn't the difference between 1080p and 4K, but if the final loop is all you use in your DAW for a song, yes you'll notice the difference in quality a lot. I'd say about double the quality is a stretch though. In terms of the frequency range, all your phrases will STILL be fighting for their own space in your loops. No such thing as 'more space' for them actually. Hi everyone! I have an issue with RC-5 & Rc-505. When using the loopers as midi clock slave devices, synced to Maschine software, there are glitches / artefacts all over the place. BOSS recommends to turn Tempo Sync off for each track to avoid those issues, but this led to another issue (tracks start / skip bars / stop randomly). SO that was not a solution. I have contacted BOSS about this, they said they tested it with Ableton and it works fine, but in general their loopers dont like to be slaved. However, no matter how i put the MIDI settings on the looper, nothing helps. Is this also the case with RC-500?
Nice vid fellows. However, all this controlled play in the studio is fine and good, but it completely overlooks the challenges of taking one of these out on a gig, especially at a quiet solo gig, where customers are just a couple of feet away and can hear even the click of your stomp pedals. The challenges of setting the gain on the percussion, starting, stopping the loop, keeping the flow, limiting the number of repeats, going into an unloopable bridge or “B” part (which most real songs actually contain!!!!), are not found in these controlled demo’s. In fact, the opportunity for error in a live gig is so great, you might want to leave your looper at home, even if it has this miraculous 64-bit processing. It can still mess you up bad in a live show.
Can't see why this is more expensive than the RC-30, when it only has one pedal! For bass, with my looper, I use the TC Electronic Sub n Up, which is polyphonic. Always check 2nd hand for loopers, as a lot of people give up trying to use them, not the easiest thing to master.
Guys, you could do all that on the old RC3. Computer storage/recall, backing tracks, drums were ace on the RC3 (with a huge library online). The only selling point I can see is that the sound quality is better.. it needed to be. I will reserve judgment until I have heard a proper multi-track jam..
I Wonder. Not having used the rc3 was the quality bad? Boss is a great company. If this is really a step up in sound quality and does usb, drum tempo auto follows the loop tempo etc then guess I'll get it. Watching many looper videos to decide.
i don't know whether my eyes is playing tricks on me, but it looks like Captain Lee is a bit frail & a little bit thinner....i suppose something is wrong with my eyes. Anyway hoping the Captain & everyone else are in great shape & staying safe. As always, Pete's playing are always awesome.
Adjusting the volume knobs on Rc3 is so much easier than faffing Rc5 menus. Hate that every new preset defaults to 100% max volume on both rhythm and loop? Drum options better though.
Wouldn't it have made more sense to compare the differences with the pedal it directly replaces - the RC3? The RC3 also has 99 memory slots, loads of storage time, downloadable etc?

I would not say this pedal will replace my ditto plus looper. It will rather be a very good combination with my two ditto plusses to be able to make layered synth improvisations or compositions with my several guitar synth pedals.
Dont make my mistake buying this looper and running it through my katana 50 mk2. Because it doesn't have an effects loop, whatever gain and distortion you use effects the loop sound aswell. You can only really use it with the katana 50 set on the clean channel!
It is important to note that this isn't really just a Katana issue, it will be a issue that pops up for anyone that uses a given amp's built in effects/gain instead of pedals. Even those with very expensive multi-channel tube amplifiers will potentially encounter this problem if they rely on their amp's gain sounds as opposed to keeping the amp clean and using pedals.
Nice introduction of the Boss RC-5 with this video, however, it did very little to explain how to actually use the equipment's features and functions. A step-by-step video would be great. The official Boss video also offers very limited hands on instructions on this equipment.
Oh shit. Did he just hit the switch NOT on the one? I have just bought a RC5, and have no looping experience. In all my saved "how-to" videos, everyone stresses to stomp on the one. I guess it probably matters for the groove, but after that, all bets are off. Can't wait to try it out. Oh, and did they say you can control drums, and other stuff via midi?
Why choose it over the RC-1? Pete did you come up with that video name after I asked you that on Instagram!? lol I want one now. RC-1 coming to an eBay near you!

The RC-1 is 16 bit at 44.1 kHz. RC-5 is 32 bit at 44.1 kHz. Although Pete said 90-something in the video...? Going from 16 bit to 32 bit you deal with 10^5 more possible numbers and double the signal to noise. Going from 32 to 64 bit, you need to deal with an additional 10^10 numbers. I think at that point you need a lot more power (processing and electrical) as it's even the limit of professional DAWs.
@@davedavem I'm not arguing that doubling the bit-width is a huge difference - I'm just surprised they didn't go farther while they were at it and throw a 64-bit ARM chip at it or such.
@@MicahTischler yeah that's cool, I guess my point was exactly that - you'd need something like an ARM chip. And the sonic benefit isn't all that much. CD quality is enough for music.
The original rc-2 always was and remains my fav. Especially if you like making jam tracks on the fly and has a ton of drum beats with tap tempo button then counts you in as soon as you press the pedal. It's lasted 8 years and still going strong.
Can the drums/loop be sent to a separate PA channel like the Digitech Trio? That's a showstopper for me if it doesn't because the TRIO does that. And can you record an intro, verse chorus and switch between them on the fly like the TRIO?

I Wonder. Not having used the rc3 was the quality bad? Boss is a great company. If this is really a step up in sound quality and does usb, drum tempo auto follows the loop tempo etc then guess I'll get it. Watching many looper videos to decide.
@@elementgypsy not at all, rc3 also very good, I don't see all the quality difference
You can load new drumkits/patterns onto the RC-3?!
Funny thing is i bought the RC-5 yesterday as well as the guitar on the wall
i don't know whether my eyes is playing tricks on me, but it looks like Captain Lee is a bit frail & a little bit thinner....i suppose something is wrong with my eyes. Anyway hoping the Captain & everyone else are in great shape & staying safe. As always, Pete's playing are always awesome.
Just let Pete and John Mayer play together when he comes there
The last tune sounded like it's a sitcom theme song. Now what's the show? Gotta know!
Adjusting the volume knobs on Rc3 is so much easier than faffing Rc5 menus. Hate that every new preset defaults to 100% max volume on both rhythm and loop?
Drum options better though.
8:24 Pete - and if the drums are on...
Drums - 🥁 💥
Lee - Woah!
The rc 3 drum beat supposedly follows the loop tempo automatically. I assume this does as well.
RC10 does not.
Wouldn't it have made more sense to compare the differences with the pedal it directly replaces - the RC3? The RC3 also has 99 memory slots, loads of storage time, downloadable etc?
Be aware the RC5 isn’t really a replacement for RC3. I bought RC5 expecting to sell my RC3. The RC5 has no Aux-in. But what really upset me is that there is only one dial for ALL functions. There is no way to simply turn up and down drum/backing music. It’s geared for MIDI. So just make sure the functionality is what you want/need otherwise you might get frustrated like I did and return it. I’m just keeping my RC3 instead. For just basic looper pedal requirements the RC3 is more immediate and flexible. Who wants to have to find a volume control within a menu to set your backing drums/music while trying to play your guitar!? I just don’t get that.🤷♂️
@@djt6546 yep, good points.
@@djt6546 very true.. I have been in a shop and the owner suggested the rc3 instead rc5....
@@fozterfossworth8276 spot on man, thanks
Nice, quick review. Love the intro/outros. Thanks fellas!
Intro was awesome
That is one awesome guitar!
Fender Brit Daniel Signature... Pete's new favourite guitar! 😉 tinyurl.com/y2axukj7
Still trying to get to grips with my RC3. Simple is best for my needs..👍🇦🇺
The one reason to NOT buy a Katana 50, what were they thinking?
It is important to note that this isn't really just a Katana issue, it will be a issue that pops up for anyone that uses a given amp's built in effects/gain instead of pedals. Even those with very expensive multi-channel tube amplifiers will potentially encounter this problem if they rely on their amp's gain sounds as opposed to keeping the amp clean and using pedals.
Nice introduction of the Boss RC-5 with this video, however, it did very little to explain how to actually use the equipment's features and functions. A step-by-step video would be great. The official Boss video also offers very limited hands on instructions on this equipment.
I hope this means I can get a sweet deal on a used RC 3 now
I love that Tele!
Just waiting for the black version. ;-)
Damn I want to have Pete's looping skills! But first I need a looper pedal. 🤣
Nice
I see 2 inputs. Can you put like a bass and a guitar at the same time? Not necessarily record at the same time. But make loops with both.
If you have a multi-layered loop, but want to delete lets say the 2nd loop or 3rd or so forth, can you do it without deleting the other loops?
Perfect Demo Guys 👍👍🎶🎶🎸
Why choose it over the RC-1? Pete did you come up with that video name after I asked you that on Instagram!? lol
I want one now. RC-1 coming to an eBay near you!
OK, you like loopers, no need to get RC about it!!
We see what you did there... 😉
What happens when you pull the power to the RC-5? Does the guitar signal still run through?
Can I input guitar to A keyboard to B ???
i’m wondering the same thing
Pete is a genius
Can someone pleeease make tabs for those chords in the intro? That would be super awesome....
Does RC-5 have a dedicated stop button that only requires one press?
Awesome guys. Have the rc1, but will defo upgrade to the rc5 or maybe 10? Lol
hey guys: does the RC-5 have a quantization function to stitch imperfections in start-stop?
Just got one for £149 on Amazon - sorry guys 🤘
After watching Pete. Got to get one.
I note Pete kept asking what’s the difference with the RC-3...tbh that’s all I wanted to know as well ie should I upgrade my old boss looper for a new one.

@@djt6546 thanks. Was going to watch more reviews to get a better idea of the functions they missed. Rc3 seems to be better for straight guitar playing.
Wait ... they just moved to 32-bit? This leaves me curious - what was the bitwidth of the old one and why didn't they go 64-bit on this one?
@@MicahTischler price and performance the answer, more bits you need to process - more expensive and fast chip you need
@@MicahTischler yeah that's cool, I guess my point was exactly that - you'd need something like an ARM chip. And the sonic benefit isn't all that much. CD quality is enough for music.
Can the RC5 drums be heard once the loop is transferred to the pc?
RUclips getting cocky now giving 2 unskipable 15 second ads before the video.
The original rc-2 always was and remains my fav. Especially if you like making jam tracks on the fly and has a ton of drum beats with tap tempo button then counts you in as soon as you press the pedal. It's lasted 8 years and still going strong.
Arsey 1 or Arsey 5?
i notice some guitar cables won't start the looper at reasonable volume . Is there a difference in cables . which do I need.
Can I use it with my percussions, please?
Can the drums/loop be sent to a separate PA channel like the Digitech Trio? That's a showstopper for me if it doesn't because the TRIO does that. And can you record an intro, verse chorus and switch between them on the fly like the TRIO?
11': good thing to see that even lovely mr pete can record too many layers in a loop so the groove is gone, happens to me all the time!
I just bought a used RC 1 a month ago. Damnit
Review the inspired by gibson new epiphone es 335 pleas!
