I've just got a looper and I'm convinced every guitar player should own one now, because if nothing else it's an excellent way of demonstrating how bad a player you are. That's a good thing, because it forces you to be spot-on with your timing. I think I've become sloppy with timing - too focused on doing the flashy stuff rather than the basics. Really enjoying it.
Exactly! We got an RC300, and I feel as though it's yet another instrument to learn. It took me so many trial and error attempts to figure out what this video instructed within 60sec.
@Andrew Ramirez Nice to hear cause I (and I thought I was okay to almost good player) just bought a looper and am totally depressed over my incompetence.
I'm crying right how "fluffy" my rythm is :'(
Semantic Samuel Great honesty in that comment. And you’ve convinced me to get my first ever looper pedal, and I’ve being playing for 35 years on and off.
Agreed everyone should have one, such a fantastic teaching tool. I am using mine now for learning how to sing, very fast feedback loops. "I thought that sounded pretty good, I say, lets find out, um, no, not exactly, good but not great, try again, repeat!".
0:00 Shape of You - Ed Sheeran
1:57 I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
3:45 Slow Dancing in a Burning Room - John Mayer
5:22 Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
6:28 Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
7:55 Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree - KT Tunstall
9:14 Magic - Coldplay
Thanks! Folks, please vote this up so it floats up. For most of the tune titles, I couldn't quite make out what Paul was saying. I guess Paul assumes we all know all these, but I was only familiar with three (and one of them I didn't know the name of anyway!)
thanks
MVP
I absolutely freaking love it when you cover Mayer. One of your best videos yet. Thank you for the constant insight and motivation.
Great content again Paul! I will definitely loop some of these. The clean background when you're speaking makes it look very professional. Keep on going!
:) Thanks

Paul Davids I loved slow dancing in a burning room, any chance you would collaborate with samurai guitarist?? He lives in Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦 he’s awesome and so are you
Beard on point like always! Great video Paul
Took me at least 18 years of dedication and hard work to be able to grow a beard like that!
Now this is a life goal and let me tell you that it was definitely worth it :D
Great Content as always
If only you had that discipline with your guitar...
(Sarcasm)
Paul Davids I just love the results you showed in 18 years(you stayed honest :D). I really wanna have beard like you with my own touch.
Thank pal , you give me motivation not only for beard but more for guitar.

Every time I watch a video by Paul It makes me wanna pick my guitar and learn something new. Thanks man you've inspired me keep up the good work.
The one thing that's annoying about looping is the time it takes most people to get their loops sections going, they way you achieve it quickly every 4 bars is awesome and adds to the progression of the song. Well done
Paul, your ability and talent are nothing short of amazing.
I agree.
Amazing how he manages to fit right in every aspect of the guitar. I mean, how versatile and talented is this guy?
just jaw dropping talent this guy is just a joy to watch
Man.. that loop of 'Slow Dancing..' came at the most perfect time in my life.
Loving the song to bits and changing my entire guitar perspective from long roots in extreme metal to wanting to play the style he used in that song.
PLUS getting really damned interested in looping.
Totally agree that song is amazing and beautiful I wanna learn to play it so badly
@@whitneywilson6347 Look up Jamie Harrison's version, he made tab for it. Video title is "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room (Live in LA) - John Mayer - by Jamie Harrison (Lesson In Description)"
His other tracks are beautiful too, Little Wing especially.
Paul - I have just started quite possibly the hardest part of my life: Starting my first teaching job in a High School as a Maths Teacher.
This month (September), I have barely picked up my guitar or had time to watch any of your videos, until finally today.
Hearing you play I'm Yours brought a tear to my eyes because of how much I've missed music since starting this new job and you made me feel so reconnected to my music. I was feeling those Fleetwood Mac vibes with those amazing harmonies that you used for that song ~
Thank you.
I would find other employment, good luck!
best channel ,the most relaxing, always brings smile to my face :)
That was the best Magic cover I've ever seen, flawless😍
Man love your videos! You're definitely one of the best musician and producer out there. Don't stop and keep jammin'
deserately need to sleep, but am just binge watching these videos. GREAT WORK!
Sean Sutton same
Legend has it Sean is still watching this video.
PLEASE DO A PART 2!!!!! THIS WAS AWESOME!!!
Please part 2 🎸🤘
Agreed
The coldplay one was absolutely nuts!
I bought a loop pedal a few years ago and honestly I believe it's massively improved both my lead and rhythm playing. I love your videos Paul, keep up the amazing content! x
I love every single factor in this video, you make looping so easy. Great stuff Paul
Magic loop is professional!
great stuff you have here Paul.
Miss the mother of all loop songs... Dosed, by RHCP
Henrique Bonfim was about to suggest it :)
nice
Yessssssss
Gorgeous song btw
Snow too
You're such an inspiration mate! You've really motivated me to keep on growing musically... cheers!
Everytime you upload a video, I find myself adding it to my favorites!
Amazing content my man! appreciate you sharing your knowledge :)
For me, at least, this was less a "how to" video and more of a "how awesome" video... it might take more time than I've got left on this earth to be able to do any of this. But I'm hugely impressed/envious of your ability to do it!
you did the best "i'm yours" cover ever...
with ONE guitar
awesome B)
Sungha Jung
Without a doubt my favorite new channel. Thank you so much for such great videos!
Not often do I hit that bell after I subscribe, but this was such a smooth and awesome tutorial. Bravo! Thanks for the content! I would love a newer version with an updated list of songs you have worked out!
Maybe you should start adding more bloopers to show you're human like everyone :)
I think he'd have to fake some :D
1994savvas you're wrong! Guitarists like him aren't human! Their Gods! 😂😂
What? Not superhuman you mean? 🤩
1994savvas but y tho
1994savvas maybe try counting in your head 🤯🤪
Double chorus of Dani California would have been cool too. First time around it's just lower power chords, second time a few harmony lines are added and it opens up really nicely. The entire song has bends and harmonies on top of each other but the double chorus sticks out especially imo
Quality content as usual. Always a pleasure to see these videos!
Thank you so much!!
I play guitar since 5 years, but sometimes it's very difficult for me,because I learnt it by myself, so there are a lot of things to improve in
You always helping me out, when I'm in trouble with songs and your ,,Tip of the week" videos are amazing!
Keep up this awesome work and thanks again :)
that's the best bittersweet symphony loop cover I've seen.
I need to get my tempo right. As you said for some songs the little delay is very noticable. Either way I'm glad you played songs I know and love. Nice Video
You're amazing, I could watch you create for hours, thank you
this was fantastic, you are my inspiration for guitar playing!:) that bitter sweet symphony loop was gorgeous
Just bought a boss rc-1 and I thank you for this video! I feel the hours will go by like minutes lol
So cool! I remember a while ago I saw one of Ed Sheeran's studio sessions and it's definitely a great skill to have.
The moment you pull off a successful loop the joy on ur face is unmistakable !!! I can see it here !!
man, I would listen to your rendition of Magic for like an hour straight. So good.
This Video was Fire! you know what? I m gonna learn the song magic right now, althought it is 1 am here in germany😂
everytime i watch you, i feel the immediate urge to practice ;)
Everytime I want to learn something new on guitar you already have a video! STOP BEING SO AWESOME! .. Kidding. Love you. Don't leave.
You're just too good Paul. You always make it look easy. And what you are doing is art.
Going to Patreon right now, what a great platform!
69th like
best looper for price is the ditto x4 . ( my opinion) best about it is the ability to loop once and stop
Super useful and inspiring - I got some really helpful ideas to try. You have a really pleasing way of talking to the camera! I especially like the closing seconds of 'I get it wrong too'! Too often we don't see the hours of practice that is required to get these videos right, but it reminds me that practice makes perfect!
You're such a great player and amazing teacher! Thanks for the great videos!
that guitar is beautiful
Fantastic video! Keep it up!
Man, your guitar technique is excellent. Very clean playing. Nice work...Thank you for posting!
Every video you upload I start thinking more why I didn't pursue guitarplaying further in my youth. Inspiring stuff. Dankje :)
You can use the sound hole on an acoustic to loop other instruments. Shakers, tambourines, chimes, even vocals.
+jdiggitty Not on this guitar, but some do have a microphone in the soundhole indeed.
Awesome video man! What do you use for the shimmer in the coldplay loop? Cheers
Sounds like something in the DAW -- maybe a long multi-tap delay effect?
A lot of reverb pedals do it like Fenders Marine layer reverb and the TC electronic flashback.
This is what music is all about, your skill motivates me to keep practicing
I'm a drummer and a long time subscriber, and every time I watch one of your videos it makes me want to learn guitar!!
Great vid, great beard.
Hey Paul!! Do you listen to Explosions In The Sky or Mogwai? They have some really cool songs that I have tried looping. You should try them yourself, maybe including them in a second part for this video (if you decide to make one of course)
I just bought a looper pedal last week. Thankyou this video has opened my eyes up to all the possibilities
Really AWESOME lesson/ideas/performance! Thanks for the inspiration Paul!!!
Ok. That's it. I'm buying a loop pedal. 🤓
Nothing like saying "kak" :) My favourite word in a related language, Afrikaans.
Excellent video on looping! Thanks for sharing your tips and suggestions, and inspiring all us aspiring loopers with your great performances!
LOVED IT, nice work Paul!!!
I don't watch your video to learn..i watch it because they are awesome
I almost like this intro version of Shape Of You more than Ed's own actual live version 👀😂
Same
I've been playing guitar for 30 years and just got my first looper. I have also been playing drums for over 50 years so the looper was no problem. Had it mastered in about 2 hours. Absolutely love it should have bought one years ago.
Great quality videos, good advices and ideas. As allways nice stuff! Keep doing it please!
Big Black Horse And The Cherry Tree is the best loop pedal song EVER
Where is when I come around by Green Day?! The perfect example!!
Hey bro, u r just simply awesome! I Watched lots of your vids and really enjoyed it. Keep posting!
Thank you Paul :) Love rocking out with you!
Hey Paul, that's an amazing video. I am living in South Africa and have been playing as a solo guitar act for twenty years using backing tracks and six months ago I purchased my first loop station and am totally hooked. I can't say I am a producer or engineer but I'm learning daily. I am looking into buying a Helix and adding a Maton guitar and Strat to my line up. I have also been testing out push2 and have decided as it's so expensive here that I would go for the Novation launchpad pro and use it with ableton, I'm trying to combine the two loopers. I was just not sure that I could do the same as with push or launchpad as I can with my RC 300. Would you offer some advise here. I perform 5 times a week in a five star hotel. As I say this is all new to me so I need to try and get it all working in my favor. Many Thanks for the great video.
You aren't alone in South Africa bud!
Same here. Playing some 23 years and gigging on and off for 15 years as a single act and occasional duo, wen I can get someone to play and rehearse with enough. Been very interested in the loop pedal idea and how difficult it is to do live.
Wallace Nock where did you find a loop pedal in SA, everywhere that I have looked doesn't stock them
I get them from Coastal Music who get them from a distributor of Roland Boss pedals. I have owned three. A RC30 a RC300 and now a Voicelive 3 Extreme
Solid Snek, type in Google: "Loop pedal price comparison South Africa" and you should come away with quite a few options. If you are in Cape Town, check out www.thegearjunkie.co.za for solid 2nd hand gear specials in Salt River. Sometimes they have them available, but they go quickly.
If your acoustic has a microphone pickup inside you can loop vocals by shouting inside you guitar :o]
I've seen that done with microphonic electric guitar pickups, as well.
Man your a true musician, you got the timings right and everything.. Awsome video!
Paul your videos continue to be awesome and inspiring. I'm definitely going to get myself set up to try some of these looper examples and some of my own! Thanks
I just use them to write music. All that wizardy that you do escapes my domains
Hi Paul can you please elaborate a little bit about the mixer connection and the microphone for the vox. I have the same problem. (No xlr on my looper) You said you plugin both mic and guitar to the mixer, pan them both to the left and connect them to the amp. Where is your looper in the chain? Thanks.
+jax502 Ah yes, sorry. The output of the mixer -> looper -> amp.
Paul Davids Thanks for the quick reply!
Can you please tell me the name of that mixture , I want to buy it but don’t know how to search . Thankyou
paul awesome! after a couple of months searching ...find another magician on the guitar...cheers bro
Magnificent! Love your videos Paul
For the new loopers out there, a huge part of looping is knowing when too much is. Don't overdo it
Less is more.
"They just don't make the video's" KAK (💩)
Nice one 😂
I have just subscribed, I have just discovered your channel and I am learning a lot with your videos, thanks a lot!
Awesome videos Paul! Proving very helpful for me in my learning of this awesome instrument! Thank you!
I like the idea of this but how does one perform a song that has multiple chord progression structures? eg the chorus chords are completely different to the verses? Does the looper cater for these 'sections'??
if you get a looping pedal that has two banks - like the ditto xl - then you can have 2 different sections.
There are limits on what you can do with looping and it is a skill of its own, mostly though it comes down to how much you want to spend on a loop pedal and what features you want or need.
If I just knew cord shapes and techniques that you use, I could go so far with my own music. That's definitely what's holding me back.... BUT NOT FOR LONG!!!
Jack Narloch I think music theory is what is holding you up :)
Do you mean not knowing music theory? Knowing music theory really can't hold you back unless you get paralyzed by how much you can learn. It's really a way to understand why things sound good, it can only help.
+Isaac Weston actually it can hold you back
+Isaac Weston actually it can hold you back
Jose Bocanegra it helped me a lot actually, there are tons of informations in the internet. It lets me construct some chords in different shapes and ways, lets do solos easily, lets create good sounding music.
great video bro! really well put together
Paul Davids you're one of the all time greats and Magic was stunning
where are the names of the songs?????
me: oh look a video
*shape of you starts playing*
me: nope
+C T02 Did you watch the rest? I promise you, you won't be disappointed 😎😉
C T02 shape of you is an awesome song. Stop being so fucking boring
A
Paul Davids ok the rest is better i just cant stand shape of you (your voice is very nice btw)
Felipe Santos im sorry i hurt your feelings it's okay to cry but dont take it so personal next time. bye for now
Dude you are AMAZING!!Your humor almost put me on the floor. Yeeesss thumbs up
4 years later and Paul Davids is still in style...some guys get all the luck! Awesome videos
Paul, there's a guy in the background mimicking you.
Any Ed Sheeran song really lol
That's cause he performs them all solo with a loop pedal during his shows ;)
Hes the reason I bought one myself, he does some great stuff with it!
Howie Felterpuss if you like him, watch some Damien Rice concerts. That dude is awesome with a looper.
The best song he does with the loop is either YNMIDNY or Bloodstream
Trey anastasio is truly the master of the looper in building a whole soundscape with just a guitar. He leads a band with it called phish. Having said that, ed sheeran rocks it in his own way and I wouldn't even compare them. they're both great.
Nice vid bro! Just got my first loop pedal after wanting one for years! You've given me lots of great ideas! Thanks!!!! 😎🎸
I'm not a fan of most of those songs and still throughly enjoyed that video, great stuff and very well put together, really liking your channel.
Fuck me looks like I'm gonna spend money again. Only now have I realized I need a looping station
Marnix van Gorkum what did you get
Connor Mcgregor?
Lol
Love your videos! Keep up the great work.
I love how do you explain how to use efficiently a loop pedal, thank you so much !
keep your enthusiasm like tha,t you rock ;)
