Ranking of Kings was an anime series that finished in Winter 2021/22 and it was a masterpiece. From the simplicity of the animation to the amazing character work seen in Bojji, Daida and Queen Hiling, this is a show that stands out among anime in the last few years.

The way my heart melted for bojji within the first 5 mins of the show. I never rooted for or loved a character harder in my life than I do bojji.
Queen Hilling was indeed my favourite subversion. It's a shame the ending seemed rushed and the Miranjo storyline ended in a way that left me unsatisfied -at least execution wise
Technically ranking of kings anime is far from over but yeah miranjo is sorta the issues with the series

Me and the kids loved this anime to bits and finished it in a week. A rare flawless gem of storytelling
I found the story to be putrid
This show immediately ranked up into my 5 favorite anime of all time, it was AMAZING
Edit: by the way! The artbook of Ousama Ranking is astounding! It includes many interviews and small sketches of the characters, I really recommend buying it, it would help the studio out as well!

started this show on a whim, finished in 2-3 days. the show is a masterpiece in storytelling. soundtrack, characters, mystery, lore. great fight scenes as well, with an inspirational main character. the story isnt new or complicated. but its delivery is amazing.
I had a lot of fun watching this show. You can tell they put a lot of work into making Kings Rankings look amazing.
Theme songs are great, and the story and animation are amazing!

I agree with many of the others here. Really strong, captivating start but really withered off in the second half.

I watched it from episode 1 as it was released. Its a wonderful story about overcoming disability or shortcomings and learning perseverance. It has a storybook continence with the depth of a philosophy book.

I just finished it and I regret nothing. It was such a delightful series and the intrigue just kept getting better with each episode. I really liked Hiling but my favorite character was Bebin, I wish we knew more about his backstory because he's the one that surprised me the most. The only thing I didn't like was what happened to Miranjo in the end because i thought it lacked nuance and was pushing one of the good messages of the show way too far. It was the first and only time in the entire show that I thought "ok, that's kind of stupid" and was waiting for a plot twist to change it somehow.
Amazing anime. I was unwilling to watch it because of the animation, but I was wrong this is an adorable classic anime in the making! 😊
Dorshe and Kage were the real MVPs of this show

Bojji is my favorite anime character ever
Second half ruined it unfortunately.
I loved this anime for its emotional intelligence and focus on the most important aspect of life, understanding and love.
I’ve seen people complain that Miranjo wasn’t punished, I believe these people do not care about the main premise of the show (understanding and love)
The entire reason Miranjo was like that was because of extreme suffering and trauma, she didn't get off easy, she’s essentially “done her time”, the right thing happened which was love, understanding and ultimately forgiveness, that's what she needed, not punishment to satisfy the ignorant desires of others.
Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses... An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. This anime has emotional intelligence and I'm sorry to say it like this but I think most who had an issue with the forgiveness of Miranjo lack emotional intelligence and have an immature view on justice and punishment, they believe the issue is in the writing, they believe it's shallow, when truly it's deep and the issue lays in their perspective, they mistake the shallowness they perceive as being in the writing when truly it’s in their own understanding or rather misunderstanding.
The troubles of the world need healing, issues require solving, through unity, not separation and denial. Many deceive themselves thinking punishment will somehow lead to healing but their true intention of wanting to see punishment dished out is simply to satisfy their own selfish desires, and they are not emotionally mature enough to even recognise this, they truly believe they are doing the right thing but it's not about doing the right thing or helping the world, it’s about their own selfish desires.
The way Miranjo was dealt with was the correct way and anyone who thinks otherwise, with all due respect, lacks maturity, understanding and self awareness, I hope they grow, most of the worlds issues are added to by peoples hatred being stronger than their empathy, compassion and desire to understand and truly come to a solution.

I can't help but feel that my love for the show was lessened by the way they concluded the Miranjo sub-plot in episode 22. I am, of course, referring to the kid proposing marriage to her. Not only is she a lot older than him, but she also very clearly had feelings for his father. I found it to be in very bad taste. And no, it doesn't matter how old she is physically. The kid is only 12. Honestly, I am surprised that more people don't find it questionable.

Its set in medieval times so it sort of makes sense miranjo has always been in her childish state too its not like she had time to mature and grow up. I think fhe worst part was that there's literally no connection between them it felt super rushed and weird for her to say yes. Hopefully in a season 2 they'll dive into it a bit deeper it could definitely be fixed
I’ve seen/read shows like game of thrones, Berserk, and AOT. So this is pretty tame in comparison lol. So that sub plot didn’t affect my love of the show personally 🤷🏾♂️.
@@ahhhhyes dude she was at best in her late twenties when she died which would make her mentaly 40 while he is 13 and i must remind you that's at best. Shit like that didn't happen in medieval times at least not with an older woman and a toddler's prince. All this time i thought he was like 8.
I felt like they took a route of a more old history take on marriage. Where you marry out of duty, not necessarily out of always pure love. The duty is that Kaiga wanted to forgive and redeem her, and cease the cycle of chaos and revenge in return. So Miranjo can be a healthy member of society that can can provide insights based on her horrible past. Keep in mind it is through experiencing, that allows people to get stronger and teach others to prevent these atrocities from happening again.
Keep in mind that I don't necessarily believe they are completely in love, nor do I have strong feelings about it. I just had this perspective when I saw it.
The series’ second half is very underwhelming. The writers rush through backstories as fast as they possibly could, leave plot-points unexplained and go for lazy ways to progress the overall narrative.
One of the story’s final conflicts -a significant part of the cast being at the brink of death- was butchered so easily when they had Bosse come out and save them out of nowhere, only to try to kill Bojji, his son and the one he had just saved, right afterwards.
Kage leaving Bojji in the show’s final 10 minutes needed its own 3 episode arc, but instead it was merely used to create an extra feeling of loss which was quickly to be resolved by the end of the episode anyway.
It had the potential to be a masterpiece, it got messy, and ultimately it was saved by its production values/care from being a 6/10 series.

The manga is still on going since the first season covered part 1 of the manga, so most issues you might have will probably be answered.

This show is great overall, but I consider it a mixed bag. No one seems to really critique how the momentum of the show gets halted numerous times for the sake of a sappy/ lame scene that goes on for too long.
Seeing Boji tear up at _every single thing happens ever_ loses its impact eventually.

Gonna be honest I only made it to episode 14 or 15 before stopping. Once I came to the realization that no one dies in this show all of the tension left. Sure other shows like Avatar don't have any of the main characters die but the stakes in it are done better and take a while to resolve or show the viewer that everything is alright; but in this show it's like the next scene or episode. Then there's the whole forgiveness thing in this show that I have a problem with and in many other media's. Now I'm not opposed to forgiveness but that is something that needs to be earned and even if someone is forgiven that doesn't mean they shouldn't be punished. I mean you have Queen Hilling heal all of these monsters that were trying to kill her just because Bojji was sad so what why would you think healing these creatures is a good idea they tried to kill you not to mention they torn up her body guard(name escapes me). Sure they were under a spell but did any of the characters know at before she healed them and if they did what if they were still under that spell. Then some of the character motivations mainly Domas just kinda confused me I didn't know what he wanted at all maybe I would get it if I finished it but I was just becoming more bored and frustrated the longer it went on not to mention that so many parts just drag on. To be honest the show just started to become predictable as every character to betrayed Bojji or was mean to him turned out to be a good guy and wanting to help him or a character to be wounded badly but would be fine in the next episode. I mean was was even the point of Domas cutting off his hand if he just gets a metal one to replace it a couple episodes later. You also have Bojji and Kage crying in like every episode that it just kinda didn't mean to much to me anymore and started to be a little annoying or cringe. Not sure what Bosse wanted in the entire show maybe it explained at the end I just couldn't be bothered to finish the series which is a shame as I was enjoying the first half but again I didn't feel any tension as I knew everyone was going to make it to the end and most ended up just being misunderstood which I would of been fine with if it wasn't every single character.

The animation is great, the character designs are fantastic. The ending was trash. He really wants to marry the much older woman who groomed him, juiced his dad n forced him to drink it? Wtf xD

Charactera eapecially boji are annoying and one dimensional (or again just flip floppy for no reason). Kage or whatever is not a character, just the mouth and ears the writer ahould have given boji, thats all he does .

I would not use the word masterpiece. While it starts off extremely strong and while the second half has its moments, too many things are executed mediocrely at best when it comes to the writing or pacing. It’s unfortunate, but animation and cuteness can only carry a show so far. At a certain point, the Miranjos become too glaring to ignore. This channel’s new scripts just feel more surface level.

I personally feel that after the first few episodes the show became worse and worse. The first 2-4 episodes were awesome and by the end I could barely finish it.

Same, the start had a yell of a hook, but after that, every arc felt so trite and unfulfilling. They didn't have to EARN anything, Boji literally had a meme time skip training montage arc that we didn't get to see from his perspective, no one was actually evil, the start just portrayed them in their literal worst angle, then when it was convenient we get to see them in their real light.

The first half was acceptable for me but then the story turns out to be a hindi movie of a bad taste...bojji is the most powerful out of nowhere ,nobody dies,no one is evil and the best part the love story between daida and miranjo .i barely managed to finish it .
I agree. The first half was good, but the second half of the story drops the ball imo. Wack backstories, flimsy character motivations, and everyone being conveniently forgiven at the end for no obvious reason.
Bojji was always strong/powerful since he's a giant, but his father's selfish actions caused him to lose most of his giantness at birth but still was strong.
It really wasn't and I don't understand how people can have such incredibly low standards. The plot and character developments absolutely made no sense at all. There was no suspense at all during fights, because Boji was OP and everyone was always instant revived. The only nice thing was the occasional very wholesome scenes, but otherwise complete trash.
