    This is THE bear protection handgun. The Mountain Gun in 45 Colt is another good one.

    I’m watching your video while cleaning my Mt Hunter 44 mag. I live in Sitka Alaska.TONS of brown bear. 2 years ago 14 bear were killed in town by officials, getting in garbage etc. every time we walk or ride bikes I’m packing, just a way of life. It’s never been fun shooting this pistol, so light with bear loads lots of recoil. I have killed 4 Sitka blacktail with it though. A lot of guys including myself have jumped over to 10mm forbear protection. Much easier to shoot, 16 rounds compared to 6. Just the way progress. Thanks for the video

    I have a 6” 629 with factory port on it…awesome gun. Look forward to this series. I enjoy shooting mine in the same manner but need some practice as well. Love .44 Mag, so devastating on target.

      Does the factory port make it extremely loud?? I have never shot a ported handgun. I do love a 44 mag. Thanks for all great support of the channel

      @@chrisevansgunshorsesranchi699 I can’t tell a difference but it does help a little with recoil…it’s similar to my 6” Python in recoil and getting back on target.

    Over the years, I've owned the Blackhawk and the Redhawk. They are pretty good guns, but heavy and a bit clunky. The 629 seems to be just about right. I think for a all-round carry in the mountains, something in 357 like the 686 is perfect.

    • @chrisevansgunshorsesranchi699
      @chrisevansgunshorsesranchi699  5 месяцев назад +1

      The 686 is the perfect training gun for sure. With full house 357 mag loads very effective in just about every situation( except big bears). For me personally the noise of the full house 357 is pretty offensive. I have shot mid level 45 and 44 without ear protection on the mountain not too bad. Wouldn't want to do much shooting that way. Last summer I encountered a badger with a really bad attitude. I mid level 44 did the trick without a headache the rest of the day. Thanks for the great comment

      I'm pretty much deaf anyway ,so I really can't tell the difference. Shoot ability is were I'm at. I no longer live in Alaska, but did for 6 years. Though now, if still there, I'd go with a 10mm.

    I like the .44 mag thru my 29 and 629. Lots of fun also thru a lever action. A good friend has .41 mag revolver and lever. Good video.

    Fun video buddy! I'd say make sure the trigger is in the crease of your finger for DA shooting. Also don't try to "stage" the trigger...just pull smoothly all the way through. Finally, dry fire is your friend, especially for DA shooting! Practice that a lot. Oh, and you're doing a re-grip thing between shots with your shooting hand that can't be helping. Just some thoughts from a guy who's shot revolvers for 40 years:). Take care and enjoy that wheelgun!

      Thanks for the great comment. I noticed the "regrip" when I watched the video. Never know I was doing that. Do you like the Jerry Micheluk grip? He has talked about that in some of his videos. Interesting you talk about the staging of the trigger. I found myself doing that. I need more practice with the DA revolver for sure. I am going to do a video on the S&W 586. I think practicing with the 38 will be a good thing. If you like agriculture content you might like my other channel 10 cow ranch. Horses cows farming and such. Thank you in advance

    I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk. It’s a great gun but have been contemplating buying a 629 Deluxe. My range loads are Titegroup and CFE with a cast bullet. Do you gas check your bullets?
    My hunting loads are either a 240 or a 300 grain XTp over H110.
    You had a nice group in the dirt btw.

    • @chrisevansgunshorsesranchi699
      @chrisevansgunshorsesranchi699  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for pointing out my dirt group Boyd haha. My bullets are not gas checked. If I didn't cast my own I would buy just about any commercial cast bullet that is powder coated. Powder coating is a game changer. All of my bullets in the future will be coated. These bullets I cast a few years ago . I hope you get you a 629 you will love it.

    Finger placement on trigger is off. Try different positions to see what works best for you. I carry an old 629 Mountain gun when out in the woods. 240gr MBC EK hi-tech w/24gr H110 or their 300 gr. Hammer with 18gr. N110 or H110. Going to try 21gr. Of Ramshot enforcer next.

      Holy smokes you are packing some serious loads. The loads I am shooting in the video are 240 gr Keith going about 950 FPS. My biggest concern on the mountain is lions. We see an occasional black bear. My double action shooting needs some work for sure. I think I am going to spend some time shooting a S&W 586 with 38's for practice. Thanks for the great comment

      @@chrisevansgunshorsesranchi699 I don't use these loads for plinking, though I do limited target practice with them. For plinking I use 44 special 240gr EK over 9gr of long shot for 945 fps average

      The flinch doesn’t matter after the bullet leaves the barrel. 😊 I haven’t played with 44 mag since the 80’s but I miss having a 44 revolver and the S&W 69 was calling me.
