- Today I try out some new Altamont grips on my Smith and Wesson 629. I want to learn to shoot double action better. After this video I know it is going to take a boat load of ammo for me to get better at double action shooting. Please subscribe Thanks for watching.

From a long time revolver competitor and firearms instructor, her is a tip for shooting double action. The higher grip you can get on the back strap of the pistol the mor control and trigger manipulation you will have.
I will try a higher grip next time Thanks for the great comment
I was admiring your collection of lever rifles. I like the looks of the grip on your 629. I like wood but shot with rubber because of my hands. I also shoot several 629 44mag. Don't feel so bad about the Go Pro mount, I put a well place 44 mag through my chrony , oh well! I did get another chrony. Liked the snow covered mountains in the background.
Thanks for the comment. Glad it was just the mount and not the camera Thanks for watching
I’m with you on the 25 yards…that’s my minimum handgun range. I was about to get some of those for my Python, which are too thin for me. Great video!
Thanks Larry. I think you would like them.
Good luck on practice!
Thanks I am going to need it
I've been waiting for a long time for this video. The Altamonts are beauties. Maybe laminated walnut. But the lack of a grip screw is unforgivable. What was the cost of them? I thought I heard you say $40.00! Focus on smooth and steady with your double action practice. Some guys like to "stage" the trigger back until just before let off to maintain their sight picture.
I am having fun trying to learn to shoot double action. They were about 60$. I know it was just an oversight with Altamont. I have bought tons of grips from them always had a new screw. I am sure if I reached out to them they would make it right with me. I do love the wood. Thanks for all the support Dave
Those grips are beautiful Chris. You won't hear any negative comments from me on your double action shooting, I'm embarrassed to say I have never fired a double action revolver. Thanks for the video and sorry about your go pro.
@@russmichael1165 It is fun to try something new. I do like the grips. The Go-Pro is safe thank goodness. The stand is DOA haha Thanks for watching
My Double action revolvers are a Ruger GP100 and a Smith 617. I shoot them both single and double action.
I DO stage the trigger when shooting double action unless I’m shooting plates for speed. Right if wrong, that’s how I do it.
I noticed that you “regrip” after every shot. That “may” suggest that your grip isn’t strong enough if the gun is moving in your hand.
I also might suggest shooting closer to the target Until your accuracy improves then move back incrementally.
@@boydsteenblock1328 I haven't thought of that maybe I will try it
44 mags and go-pro's don't mix!
you are correct and I proved t haha Thanks for watching
