See this is why we should be embracing all the new additions to our communities! If we have open minds and open hearts when welcoming people from different parts of the world we can start building a future from many different perspectives.
I'm amazed by the sheer number of inventions and patents created by immigrant inventors. It's like they have an extra dose of innovation in their genes! We definitely need more people like that to drive progress.
The beauty of innovation is its color-blind, borderless and agnostic. Life-changing ideas can come to anyone at anytime. Thanks for shining on light on these stories, James. Let's continue to celebrate the stories and motivations behind this endless well of opportunity. Because stories matter.
I love this perspective!! Too much of our immigration conversation focuses on those entering illegally and NOT on the impact that these different and diverse voices and perspectives have on our country. These voices add resiliency, creativity, and so much more to our American fabric.
Innovation is not just about having an idea; it is about having the determination to pursue it even in the face of overwhelming obstacles. As demonstrated by the story of Katalin Karikó, innovation is about persisting through setbacks, constantly searching for ways to overcome them, and being willing to take risks. The power of innovation is not just in the discovery of new ideas, but in the ability of innovators to persevere and see their ideas through to fruition.
I can see how people who come from places where access to energy is limited would want to work in that field and be so dedicated to driving that stuff forward.
It wasn't until business school that I realized the significance of cross-cultural teams. Cultivating diversity and prosperity in our society relies on warmly welcoming and supporting talented individuals from all corners of the world. By enhancing opportunities for immigrants to make meaningful contributions and propel innovation within the US, we can forge a more inclusive and prosperous nation.
This is an amazing story of innovation and determination. Catalin Kurico's contribution to the mRNA vaccines is truly revolutionary, and it's incredible to see how one person's determination and ingenuity can change the world. I'm excited to see what other breakthroughs the biotech industry will achieve in the coming years.
The vaccines and therapeutics we have today are a result of immigrants and Americans working together. Let's continue welcoming and celebrating the world's innovators.
I've never thought about the fact that you might have an amazing, world-changing idea but aren't able to explore it because of the ideologies of the country you're in. It's kinda crazy
The story of Catalin Kurico and her journey from Hungary to America is truly inspiring. It's a reminder that innovation knows no boundaries and that determination can lead to groundbreaking discoveries.
Your TED talk is an inspiration! I felt that you shed light on a major topic, especially at a time when immigration is sometimes surrounded by a bad connotation. My relatives were also immigrants a few decades ago, and I see the elements of determination and hard work present in the stories mentioned in your TEDx talk.
The important role that immigrants have played in American innovation and entrepreneurship throughout history is not spoken about nearly enough! From peddlers and shopkeepers to high-skilled professionals, immigrants have contributed to the US's economic success in countless ways
The call for better pathways for talented individuals to stay and contribute to the United States is vital. We should strive to create an inclusive environment that attracts and retains innovators from around the world, ensuring our country remains at the forefront of scientific progress.
Thank you James for bringing to light what makes humans and the world expand through knowledge! We claim ownership of the land where we are born and try to protect it with force. Pure grit and determination is required to gain ground and when you look at the results it shouldn't have to be so hard.
the importance of immigration policy in promoting American innovation and entrepreneurship is a big one. We need policies that encourage the immigration of highly skilled individuals and make it easier for foreign-born entrepreneurs to start and grow businesses in the US.
The connection between immigration and increased patent filings is compelling. The infusion of fresh perspectives, expertise, and cultural diversity seems to be a catalyst for greater creativity and productivity in the field of innovation.
Innovation thrives on unexpected encounters. Immigrants bring diverse perspectives and experiences that fuel creativity, so it's not a surprise that their innovations stand out.
welcoming and embracing talented individuals from around the world is crucial. By providing better pathways for them to contribute and innovate within the United States, we can foster a more diverse and successful society.
The data on the contributions of immigrants to innovation is truly fascinating. It demonstrates the valuable role of cross-cultural experiences and the potential for collaboration in driving groundbreaking advancements.
I never realized the extent to which immigrants have shaped America's entrepreneurial landscape. It's eye-opening to see the statistics and understand the significant impact they have had on innovation.
Diversity, in all its forms including immigration, is powerful. Diversity is a Fact. Equity is a Choice. Inclusion is an Action. Belonging is an Outcome.
These success stories are the result of opening up to different ideas. Immigration brings different backgrounds into society and these are crucial for progress. Unfortunately getting a Visa at this time is almost impossible and I recommend all students that contact me from abroad to move to Europe or move between European countries.
I loved the reference to Hamilton! It's true, immigrants really do get the job done when it comes to innovation. We should celebrate their contributions and create an environment where they can thrive.
Hearing about the decline in student visas and the strict visa policies is very concerning. We should be making it easier for talented international students to study and contribute here, not harder.
There's no doubting that immigrants bring a bunch of skills and perspectives along with all the different experiences they've had, so it makes a lot of sense that they'd be innovating in this way.
This is really interesting James, I honestly always thought that immigrants worked so hard professionally because of the pressure that gets put on them by their parents in order to earn respect in a country that so often falls short of respecting anyone who is different.
Was very cool to hear about the way immigrants are impacting our health care system... anything that can improve patient outcomes and the way care is delivered is worth taking note of.
Who would have thought that the teddy bear of Catalin Kurico's baby would play a role in her escape from behind the iron curtain? Talk about resourcefulness and determination
We can't ignore the decline in student visas and restrictive policies. We risk losing talented innovators to other countries because of how difficult those processes are
This is amazing James thank you for illuminating all the different ways immigrants contribute to our society. Normally people only want to focus on the cultural benefits of diversity but there are so many more.
Wow, this presentation really highlighted the incredible journeys of these innovators. It's like a real-life adventure story with science and determination!
How can we create better pathways for talented young immigrants? Let's explore ways to attract and retain their brilliance instead of continuing down the road of divisiveness we seem to have turned onto.
Yes James this is such an important view to be sharing. I don't think nearly enough people understand the ethic immigrant bring with them around work and innovation.
I think we are going to see a shift in immigration where there is a lot more education abroad to be taken directly back to their homelands. I know that's what I'd do! Perspective broadening education experience and honing and perfecting it all with my people.
This is a beautiful talk but I am also flabbergasted that we are still having to remind people just how much diversity makes us richer in all areas of life, you think we would have caught on long ago!
This is such an amazing talk but sadly it's not the people who are watching that need to be convinced of our immigrants merit. The ones who make it hard for us will never see it, they don't want their minds to be changed.
If only people could look past their ignorance and all the differences and learn to collaborate there'd be no limit to what we could all achieve together 💪🏽💪🏽
I think people hear the word 'immigrant' and automatically picture people of ethnic minorities or whatever and they forget that literally everyone in America that's not a native American is descended from an immigrant. It's such a weird term that only creates division.
Interesting topic, but perhaps not the most politically neutral example (reference to the vaccine and big pharma). America was founded and built by migrants and immigrants, and immigrants have certainly been responsible for great innovation. However, if the innovator was not an immigrant, then their ancestors were in almost all cases. I, myself, am an immigrant and naturalized American citizen. I also have friends that are immigrants from countries like China that came to study here, and they now live here permanently as loyal American citizens. They have integrated very well into American culture and community, and have contributed greatly to American innovation. However, there are others whose loyalties lie with their native countries, and some of these countries are enemies of America. So it’s not unreasonable to impose stricter standards on the immigration process here. Ideally, America will continue to have immigrants, but drug dealers and terrorists, and anyone else who means harm to America should be kept out.
If only it was easy to understand why anyone resorts to a life of a crime - remember that it's quite often when people fall on hard times that they do. So how about America figures out a way to fund public health care and then maybe we would be sorting out the cause instead of the symptom. Immigrant or not, you don't know what someone is truly capable of until they have not many choices before.
Ok an organised migration is beneficial ,but if you were in Spain you will see the dark side of the policies promoting illegal unchecked entrances of thousands of migrants mostly coming from the north of África. And I would say in any country belonged to the corrupted UE.
See this is why we should be embracing all the new additions to our communities! If we have open minds and open hearts when welcoming people from different parts of the world we can start building a future from many different perspectives.
Absolutey Enes! Thanks for your feedback.

Amen to that Hossier-Daddy.
