I wish I’d watched this TED talk earlier, I feel like I’ve heard the same message hundreds of times but this really resonated with me. I’ve always been a naturally anxious person, but feeling gratitude is a great thing to do on a daily basis, it’s basically a practice to keep yourself grounded.
He’s s good speaker and even better story teller. I have noticed and admired people throughout my life that just go for it with no fear. Have confidence in your ability to solve problems. He loved his daughter as much as I do mine. Good talk.
I live this way and I have overcome things that most humans could not survive, and over a span of 15 years, I have had 4 separate Doctors tell me so. Gratefulness as well as graciousness are life savers. I didn't realize it but I'm a person who will not give up nor give in because it makes no sense for me to do so. My sister once called me a "scrapper" but that's not the case. It's more of a moving forward. I love the quote from the Patsy Cline story (Sweet Dreams) "Somebody's gotta be happy, it might as well be me..." That gave me a strange sort of courage because it reminded me that happiness is a God given right and so that also includes me. So all of the abuses that I had suffered needed and answer and it was not to quit, but to thrive. The credit goes to the creator who's love showers all humans if they would just look up...and be grateful.
What an INSPIRATIONAL story! I have allowed fear, worry, angst to control my life. Now, at age 59, I'm doing my best to face it so I can live the life of my dreams! Good/great things are happening! Want to stay strong! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Top speech. It really does takes seconds to change your mind/life. And if you really do move with purpose you can pretty much achieve anything. And if you fail you fail, learn, get up and go do. Fear? What's that? I remember months ago when we were in lockdown, sick, losing loved ones, losing incomes, losing businesses and houses...and now I have to be scared of life throwing anything else at me?🤣 I promised myself if I get through that, I'll never take anything for granted, work harder and smarter never to be in any sh!tty position again.
It is December 23, 2019!!!! TODAY, I woke up with no fear. Thank you Universe. And yes I am watching this in 2019 in response to a comment from the past. So those of you who ever said that time travel from the future into the past would never be possible is obviously living a life filled with fear, as I just proved that untrue.
It's the allegory of Jesus on the cross. He is the metaphor for spiritual and intellectual enlightenment. And where does enlightenment die? Between two thieves that steal you away from living in the now. Those two thieves are regret for the past and fear of the future. Depression and anxiety. There is only the eternal right now.
Perhaps not free from fear but free from the fear of fear. I think there is value in fear. It can be useful and there are reasons we have the ability to feel fear. Fear is not necessarily the enemy but your relationship to it can make fear into an enemy.
"free from fear" doesnt mean fearless, but that other thing you've phrased... if he meant fearless he would have said fearless. Anyhow, it seems you get the overall point.
YES. I remember reading a study of the top reasons for people with GAD and panic attack disorder having panic attacks... the top reason was fear of having a panic attack!!
Exactly. Anxiety always involves things that are going to happen at some time other than now. If you can completely stop yourself from thinking about a time other than now, you will be unable to feel fear, and you will experience eternity in a moment.
The most important thing to remember, is that do not question whether your child would be the child you envisioned and hoped to have but rather, .. I wish you a life with minimal hardship my child! I wish you to find happiness, what ever that is to YOU! I am grateful to have this opportunity of having you with..Joy as.. millions and millions simply can’t for.. a variety of reasons.
I love the storytelling to open the discussion really funny yet insightful. I have always been scared of alot of things but recently I have been less fearful and more grateful and confident.
What a great perspective towards fear. Beautifully explained. Abundance and gratitude play really important role in eliminating the fear. Thanks a ton Sir.
Robert, Your talk changed my life, listening while trying to sleep, my head spinning and afraid of the morning. But like you said, it could be the worst day of my life or it could be the best. I decided to make it the best, and so it was. That was yesterday, and today can be even better. Thank you! 2020/11/23
There’s a stoic practice of confronting your fears directly that has helped me be able to access this kind of message. Wishing it away, trying to overcome it, wanting to be fearless all worked against me but writing down my biggest fears and looking at the practical things I could do to prevent or overcome the worst outcomes gave me my life back. Had I not done this then the sudden death of my SO last year would have destroyed me.

The movie “Invictus” directed by Clint Eastwood starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as the Captain of the South African rugby team is a great movie. That is where I first heard the poem this man recited. The movie tells a beautiful story about Mandela and his struggles and overcoming fear and being able to forgive and not give up and not losing hope.

All Fear is a concept about the future. Think about it, even if you are facing a bear in the woods, your fear is that you'll be killed.
Eliminate outcome, eliminate fear!
It being about the future isn't what makes it, however.
