@@goodvibes1525 I don’t really think so. I like to think RUclips combines the best parts of something such as Instagram, and like a streaming service, such as Netflix or Disney plus.
Kitso Ntuli i don’t have FB but I logged out of Instagram & Snapchat (even though I barely use snap). I just feel like I’ll be tempted to download it again and go back on them
@@christine4613 that's valid but try to remember that social media was made to make you addicted to it, and that you'll be able to use the hrs you spend on social media doing more productive, worthwhile tasks! you can do it, it gets easier w time :)
+Dartist64 Rocks i think it is. Any interface the enables social networks is social media. If youtube is not, you wont be able to comment and reply here.
The best thing to do is to unsubscribe from bs useless channels that don't do anything for you. Then, turn you notifications off. And... The hardest part for me is (because I naturally start scrolling as soon as the a video starts) not reading the comments. Honestly I've really struggled with RUclips comments. I take a lot of things to heart and that is the way I am. I don't watch the news because I don't believe it. So, if you can, stay away from that too. I'm slowly starting to feel better. I wish you all the best in this virtual insanity.
by Quitting social media ( IG, Tictok, etc) you gonna experience 1. less anxiety 2. less sense of comparison 3. more peace of mind 4. more productive days 5. more realness 6. more sense of presence and the list goes on!
@@foaadvideo1233 honestly, if you would just stop using phones and devices for entertainment, it’s just common sense that you could be more productive, effective etc. Imagine what you could do if you didn’t use ur phone. You could learn an amazing skill, sport or instrument or something.
it is quite scary for me to think about this Ted talk because when I first heard him about 4 years ago I thought he wasn't making any sense and I love social media, all my friends and my life are on there. And now I am coming back totally convinced that social media has made me miserable, addicted and always comparing myself to others over the years.
Good thing that you recognize that. I was on the same situation when I decided to quit Instagram. It’s been more than 6 months now and honestly I don’t miss it AT ALL! I feel like I’m finally living my life for myself and have no intention on coming back. It’s also very funny to became this “mysterious person” and have people wondering what your doing with your life
Social Media is ruining our lives ...anxiety, loneliness, comparisons, time consuming, perfectionism...and the list goes on. We spend a lot of time admiring people’s lives instead of investing in our own lives.
"We spend a lot of time admiring people's lives instead of investing in our own lives." That is such a good point and such a good way of putting it! ;)
I quit drinking, smoking pot, and social media at the beginning of 2015. I quit drinking because I didn’t want to get a third DUI and become a felon. I quit smoking pot because I couldn’t afford it any longer. I quit social media because I didn’t have anything going on in my life worth sharing. It took me 5 months to find a job(really it was like the job found me) and just two weeks after starting my first job, I was offered another part time job. The part time job turned into a full time job which came with a promotion. A year later I received another promotion. Now I’m the general manager of the business. If I had continued drinking, I’d be in jail or dead. If I had kept smoking pot, I wouldn’t be working anywhere or breaking my back for under the table pay. If I had continued using social media, I would have been subtly ridiculed for the type of work I was doing and in turn ashamed of my life compared to the lives of my peers. I’m proud of myself and I don’t need anyone from the other side of an app to validate my accomplishments.
I quite social media because I was constantly comparing my life with the fake lives people portray on social media. My depression is gone and my life is private. I have a few close friends that I stay in touch with. I don't need hundreds of fake friends on fakeface.
I respect you and your work Chris, I lookup to you and aspire to becoming as good a human being as you. You have this gift of seeing through differences and finding the true souls of people that I haven't witnessed in anyone else. God bless you.
I'm 15 and I quit social media because I kept comparing myself to others and lowered my self esteem. It made me feel so bad about myself but I'm so much happier now.
Thank you! When I was on social media I really never felt truly happy, but now I can concentrate on what's important. I'm trying to convince my friends to stop but they won't unfortunately. I feel like I'm the only person in my year who doesn't do social media! People ask me what my social media accounts are and I say that I'm not on it. They have a surprised look on their faces. But honestly it is so worth it and it took some time to get used to, but now I'm doing better all around.
Nicolas Shane thank you. I have been able to figure out my passions and what I want to do when I'm older , all because I quit social media. Acting is what I want to do, and I have learnt social media would stop me from getting there . I'm so much more determined now. Much love xxx

u know i quit social media a while ago and this is what ive been doing it's kinda crazy: -when i wake up i dont go on my phone i just get out of bed and start my day -i read 1 book a week -i signed up for an online course -i discovered new cool spots in the neighborhood cuz im bored so i take long walks -im out more -i talk to my neighbors more -my eyes feel different like better -i got back to my old hobbies and interests -i began to reconnect with myself like my needs and my goals in life -seriously reevaluated my life and committed to change for the better - my attention span has increased significantly - i dont have that drained feeling from overstimulation it is wild i realized social media actually makes u antisocial and damages your relationships

I quit Twitter 6 months ago. I can't even describe the amount of productivity I have gained as a result. Sometimes I look back and think: what the hell was I doing? Just unproductively refreshing a timeline and hoping to catch something interesting. That kind of passive purposeless entertainment slowly cripples your mental faculties.
Imo Emah Twitter is very time consuming and can be such a distraction... My take, social media can be used smartly by allocating a spcific time of the day to 'publish' your content.
As a 19 year old who quit social media immediately after graduation I had a ton of anxiety about deleting the apps. I am here to say that it is genuinely the greatest decision I have ever made for myself.
you know what ? I believe almost every person on the internet who say they've quit social media are liars. it's always people with no Profile Pic, a fake name... you all use fake accounts and have a passive usage of your social medias but you are still very much using it.. my two drugs of choice are Twitter and... RUclips. I have a very hard time leaving Twitter but I don't think I'll ever let go of RUclips. So I don't really believe you.
I am a sophomore at college, and I struggle to delete social media bc, i have a fear of missing out smth important in college or in my friends life. Did you face this problem?
So social media- 1. wastes your time 2. fragments your attention- reduces your capacity to focus 3. makes you feel lonely/ isolated 4. makes you insecure and depressed 5. strains your eyes - you forget to blink often 6. makes you sit for a long time 7. makes you forget other productive activities- reading a book, workout
keeps you occupied and involved in trivial issues, reduces your time to learn, reduces your opportunity to increase your knowledge which in turn decreases your power.
The human mind was never designed to keep in touch with, care for, or communicate with hundreds (or even thousands) of people on a personal level, especially on a daily basis. It brings anxiety, jealousy, loneliness, inadequacy, loss of concentration within your own life, etc. My happiest friends have zero social media, and are incredibly successful. Life is so peaceful and meaningful without social media. And tons more productive.
I’m 18 , I had an Instagram meme account with 10.7k followers and growing everyday, had a Twitter meme account with 3500+ and growing everyday , and I just left all that behind and uninstalled everything and ready to get back closer with God and focus more on my studies and future , I’m sick and tired of sitting in front of my pc and phone just sharing memes and playing video games , I want to become a Better person
I’ve been off social media and I’ve lost weight, read more books, and have hung out with friends. I’ve also seen a mental gap btwn those who are on it (they tend to believe conspiracy theories and quick to be angered..). Thank goodness I see this with my own eyes.
@@RustyNickels true , RUclips became worse after it introduced “shorts” , just like every other app which copied Tik tok . But I only use RUclips to watch knowledge content and videos
quit all my social media and im happier with my life because im living it, not recording, sharing, posting about it and checking those of others! No unhealthy comparisons, no simulated social relationships, no wasting time checking information i just don't need to know, just real present moments and the wholeness of a full experience not posted online for the people i went to school with years ago to look at. i think that we could keep ourselves updated by spending more time on news websites instead social media...if i'd check the news instead of look at facebook everytime, i'd probably be more updated then ever ;)
News websites, or talking to people in real life who do. I didn't quit social media, but I did quit checking the news. SO MUCH HAPPIER for it. If something important happens, someone will talk about it in my social or work circle.
Good for you. That is what life is about, just living it. There is so much more important things to do with your time. Quitting social media is so liberating.
I deleted my social media when I was 22. Got closer to God, Started educating myself on different topics, just in general upgraded myself. Highly recommend it.
I've been off of social media for about 4 months now. I barely use my phone - only use to call and watch RUclips videos on spirituality. I walk around now appreciating the beauty in everyday life. It makes me sad to see everyone always staring at their phones. It's even sadder to know that I used to be one of them.
I really agree that these social media can be a real prision. One of many in life that people become slaves of. But I am answering your post because I have a bigger message not only for you but for everybody, but since you mentioned videos on spirituality I felt that I had to write this message. I see you have been searching for God. Well, I met Jesus last year, personally. When I gave my life to Jesus I could breath life in my lungs for the very first time. Indescribable Peace and love in my heart, I was filled with His light, mercy, and joy and received the Holy spirit. I was healed of a phobia and my testimony adds to countless that were saved and freed from a life where suffering became normal. It is not. God’s love is perfect and real and He wants us to have a relationship with Him, full of His supernatural blessings and because of that He reached down to us to pay the debt of sin, which is basically us having turned our backs to Him. So that we may live with Him forever. No matter how many religions may deceive people’s minds with false hopes. Jesus lives and continues today healing people, giving freedom from all kinds of boundage and saving souls. One day someone told me the good news and I though this was too good to be true, until I met Jesus. Here I am today eternally grateful for that. All the best to you!

This video is timeless, 10x more relevant now than it was 7 years ago. As a father of a two primary school going daughters, it terrifies me. In a few decades from now, I'm convinced that we'll look back at the early decades of social media and wonder how we let these companies do pretty much what they wanted with our kids, their brains, self esteem and mental health.
Children are playing video games on the computer instead of playing in the field, socializing with strangers instead of spending time with their family, neighbors, friends. This social media is completely destroying the future generation. It is very important for us to be aware now.
social media just gives me anxiety. I dont know why, it just does. i always get worried that when i post something, people wont like it. i decided to stay of of facebook and stuff like that. I feel so much more relaxed, and carefree. No social media was the best decision i've ever made
Yeah social media makes me feel the same way. I get stressed about keeping a perfect online reputation which is obviously impossible. Also, seeing all the other people reacting to other's post makes me subconsciously jealous.
Chloe Cozzetti Same for me, it makes me feel more stressed. I have a Facebook account, but I barely use it. But people react like I'm some kind of freak when I say I don't like social media.
Chloe Cozzetti and that's the whole point of these segments because ppl has these feelings about it and that you're okay without social media... you lived before right? One thing I done was unfollow ppl I don't like or doesn't inspire me in some way

@Toask This is hilarious to see people actually have this way of thinking 😂 the “privilege class” wasn’t always rich at-least for majority, someone was poor in their family until that person or the next in line decided this isn’t what they were willing to settle for. And hey it’s your fault if you choose to stay broke especially if you live in America it’s a capitalist society 🤷🏾♂️, also they have books on wealth and how to invest or even learn about planes if you wanted too but then again not many people read and if they do it’s not a quality book.
I quit social media because I wanted to be more private with my life - I felt like people that didn't even smile at you were more than happy to know your business - it's weird. It's nice that my life is nobody's business!
I quit instagram. I feel more focused and I hardly look at my phone. I am more present in the actual moment. I also feel more confident. Before when I would feel insecure I would look at my instagram to pretend I was intentionally trying to be alone but now I don't even care. I don't look at my social media in those moments of insecurities anymore and I find myself more confidently free. Working on quittin facebook.
I know exactly how you feel about Instagram. That's why I quit Instagram too. I quit all of them though actually. I feel like social media to me was just a dark place. It made me insecure, depressed, more anxious, more addicted & obsessed with checking my phone... Now I feel good! Life feels amazing without it. I don't check my phone every 5 mins. I feel like I'm not competing with anyone anymore. Plus, social media was triggering my artists block again because I couldn't focus. If you're an artist, you know how awful artist block & writers block can be. It sometimes takes years for you to get out of artists/writers block. I hadn't realized it at the time but it was messing my creative process up!!!! 😣 I feel like I'm living a normal life now. I'm not trying to live up to social media standards anymore. I'm now creating up to 15+ pieces of art everyday now because my focus is on the right track. I'm not focused on Instagram and Snapchat anymore.
Same...my mom is constantly on facebook. Our time together is spent with me talking to a wall while she scrolls. So sad...although it did inspire me to deactivate all my socials.
My parents are the same. They were wary and sceptical of social media for years but in quarantine they spent more time on Facebook and now they’re hooked. I feel especially bad for my mom when I pop in to say goodnight and she’s glued to the phone still. Her sleep quality has gotten worse because of it.
I like the comment by Peta Ramia who has channel talks of minimalism.. She said "Nature has all the patience in the world... When became the time when we humans became disconnected from nature."
actually it is not completely true, you`re not the product, you`re a subject that supplies data and profit to the companies without receiving any payment
I’m quitting social media because it’s so draining. Who cares what I am doing ? Who cares what I am eating ? Who cares what I am wearing? I want to live my life in peace and quiet.
He's absolutely right. Also, when you quit social media, you find out who your real friends are, which is hardly any of them. You are not friends to most of the people on these social networks. You are just another number and another way to relieve boredom.
Another thing: Facebook exists to harvest personal data for advertising purposes. Facebook makes their money from paid adverts. The social network thing is just a means to that end. That's why it's free to the everyday users. The users of Facebook are not the customers, they are the product being sold. Of course, the same is true about Google.
Exactly. I've never been on Facebook or any of these sites. My real friends, whom I can count on one hand, have my phone number and call me if they need to get in contact with me.
SunEagle Cherokee, thank you for your comment. It just goes to show how everyone is different and has different experiences. In every situation in life, there are always exceptions. Your situation was a very extreme one, but it's great that you found a way through it. You say that people don't have time to socialise face to face. Maybe that's because most people are walking around with their eyes glued to their phones? And if you sit in any waiting room (e.g. barbers, doctors, dentist), almost everyone is looking at their phones. Without the smartphones and social media, these would be opportunities to engage with people in person. I would like to ask you this question: if social media didn't exist when your wife died, what would do you think you would have done to try to get through it? And please understand, that's not a rhetorical question intended to try and make myself sound clever. I'm genuinely interested to know what your honest answer is. And please try to resist a knee-jerk response which merely backs up the position you've already established. Please give it some deep thought. I'm interested to know.
I sill say if not one could take the time to physically come see you then I'm still suspicious. It sounds like a very lonely life, like the one I'm living. I was cut off SSI through no fault of my own. When my income ended it seemed so did face to face visits from past friends. SM dose not replace needing to hire a driver but unable to pay, wanting to set face to face and talk with someone, instead of texting to a white screen. To me it just isn't the same as a friend really being there. Yea I'm typing to some one now, but they feel like machines. and in a changing world I find it difficult for a straight male to make friends. We live in a world that seems to forget not all men seeking friends want to have sex with them But I think males usually make that one or two very good reliable straight friend be it at school and perhaps work and they don't really make another one. I once had a straight friend I could call at 3:00 a.m when he wasn't working and ask if he would buy me a soda and drive it to my home. "I can not drive but I had my SSI at the time" and most of the time he wouldn't accept gas money or the money for the soda (It was Pepsi with Lemon which I don't think they make it anymore.) and I just don't know rarely a human being that dose that. But alas when I couldn't pay him at all to go to distant cities for my appointments and such then we sort of fell out of favor after a solid 30 year friend ship.
even as true as those all are, quitting social media made me a more attuned person to reality, no technological impulse creating a false reality for me, every second a notification comes on your phone, you grow hardwired to destruct your nerves
Nykyta Diachyna You could use Google search, RUclips and books to maximize knowledge gain. However, to say RUclips and Instagram (ext) are the same is not true.
I deactivated Facebook when I realized that I was using it for the sole purpose of measuring my self-worth against other people's lives, or more accurately, the impression I got from other people's social lives online. I never even posted status updates because it bothered me when people didn't like them. How embarrassing is that? Actually letting something as transient and fickle as an internet 'like' affect your mood and state of mind. I literally just used to scroll through the news feed and think that the humorous posts were enough to outweigh how shit I felt when I saw people in huge groups socializing while I sat at home alone suffering from anxiety. What sealed it for me was imagining that time suddenly rewound to ~20 years ago during the pre-facebook/social media era. Would I ever know what most of the 300+ 'friends' of mine on Facebook were getting up to in their lives back then? Would I care? Would I go out of my way to find out? The answer to all of these questions was a resounding no. I'd only care about the people I'm closest to, the people I actually interact with outside of social media. Maybe I still would've suffered from anxiety back then. I'm not blaming Facebook on my mental illness. But what social media sites like Facebook do is they severely exacerbate any existing anxiety or self-esteem issues.
as i was reading your comment, i felt, in myself, the embarrasment, but in the same time the relief, of admitting i experienced the same thing (envy, lonelyness, secret want for attention) The bitter and unexpected part was after 4 months after i quit fb, When i asked a friend some info, he said to me "don't You have facebook?" i was instantly thrilled that he noticed that i quit fb, and quickly and radiantly replied "No, since 4 months now! :D", only to get the second part of his answer "all the info is there!!" :))) great, he didn't actually care... :)) And out of 700 fb friends (700 people that i actually met and know), maybe 4 asked me why can't they see my fb page. but they didn't care why, although for me was an opportunity to talk about my feelings with even my closest friends...
I have a friend who was my roommate in university. His name os Keenan. He is extremely friendly, genuine, and always exudes an air of calmness around him. I have never seen him angry or frustrated and throw a tantrum. One day i asked for his Facebook account. He said that he did not have it. Instead, I always saw him carrying a book or staying in bed reading without a care in the world, no smartphone. He only used his laptop for doing his homework. I think he was different from the rest of my university. Their eyes stick to the smartphone, always getting annoyed, feeling unhappy. Social media really ruin our mental health and happiness nowadays

Nah. Facebook just recently hit 2,000,000,000 monthly users, which is the highest it's ever been and it's only growing. And if you don't see the use in social media, you just don't know how to use it right.
Social media almost becomes like a second job. People are so busy deciding what to post, overthinking things, trying to keep up with the next person. That can be overwhelming. Edit: Checking back in on this video 11 months later. Thanks for the likes and relating to my comment! Wishing everyone a prosperous 2020! Merry Christmas!
2 weeks clean, going on 3 from Facebook. I am on Twitter but not as often maybe twice a day. I do use RUclips a lot but mainly watching history docs or learning new things which is so much more productive and educational.
@@bcandidvisuals I'm going to do the same. I am also on Twitter and RUclips. You're right. I am learning a lot from the videos I select. Facebook has become a place for posting boring things. I am not interested in peoples' pets, kids etc. A lot of people seem to think they're missing out by NOT being on Facebook. I check Twitter once or twice a day if that. I will be much more relaxed and in peace without all the fake drama etc.
Second job ?? If you're that interested in social media, make it your ONLY job. There are a ton of people doing that. And yes, it can get overwhelming if you start comparing yourself to others (learnt THIS the hard way).. just express yourself the way you are. People like that better. I had about 120 subscribers on RUclips, (in 3 months) when I was just going after trends and stuff. But then when I started doing what I really liked, I got to 229 subs in around a month and a half.

I just deactivated and uninstalled everything at minute one of this video after scrolling through some of the comments. I'm sick of feeling enslaved to refreshing and sharing memes etc it's just draining and superficial.
I quitted social media in the beginning of May. The first day was amazing. I did get the urge to install all my social media apps back and not doing it was hard. I had to distract myself so i could think less about checking what was going on with my friends and stuff. After one week, I didn't care at all about social media. I decided to deactivate all my accounts (ig, snapchat, twitter; i have deactived my fb acc years ago). It was like I was reborn lol. I had so much time to invest on myself and on people I love. My focus on the things I was doing had improved. I didn't have any distractions. My mind was focused on the tasks I was doing. My productivity got better and I felt happy because I was doing things faster and better. It has been a month without social media and it is life changing. You focus on yourself. Your mental health is better. You can start new hobbies. One of the things I started doing is learning things about different countries, thier history, culture, culinary etc. Also I started exercising a lot because you have so much free time. I feel healthier in general. I have time to cook myself a healthy meal, go out and spend time with family and friends, study ( im a student, 20 yo) improve new skills, and many more things. It honestly feels like you get your life back and you control it. It is definitely the best decision I have ever made. I suggest you do the same. You won't regret it!
Wow that's really amazing 👏 today before 5 hours maybe i quit Facebook which saved around 40 minutes of my life i usually spend around 1 or maybe 2 hours a day which is really not worthy just because in return there is nothing but distraction, stress ... I'm really happy i made this decision and would suggest everyone who's reading this comment should give a try you'll not regret for sure 😉
I will definitely do the same! (Except for RUclips as my learning tool). It really makes you think... Your truest friends will check in on you no matter what.
The fact this is so true in 2024 says a lot!! He was spot on! I’ve noticed I’m happier when I limit social media to almost none. I am way more productive and living in the present. I’ve gotten so much better with lessening social media! The fact that ChatGPT is a thing now is crazy! I wish social media would seriously die down for the majority of population to save the minds of the younger generations. Great talks!
As I write this, I'm 17. And I think social media deactivation might make teenagers hesitate and scared at first. “Will I lose friends? Will I get enough attention?” But to me, it was one of the best decisions in my life. Here’s my story: I quit social media three years ago. I used to be obsessed with likes, thought I was worth less when one of my posts didn’t reach popularity and completely shut off my family and some friends who were right in front of me. I slowly realised that I was addicted. My parents would sometimes snatch my phone away from me due to my obsession with social media and my excessive screen time: all I did was scroll mindlessly through instagram! I then started step back a bit and reflected on my actions. I, for one day, shut my phone off and didn’t look at it once. That’s when I started to realise that I merely took photos to post them, not to conserve its memories. That all my actions related to social media were SUPERFICIAL. I looked at my surroundings and found it ridiculous how people were obsessively glued on their phones instead of socialising with there loved ones (ex: in a restaurant). Or when people would take videos on Snapchat and act happy for the duration of the video and then, their expressions change instantly when the video goes off. I thought it was going to be hard at first. Because I felt a kind of relief when I post or go on social media. But let me tell you: deleting Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and others made me happier, made me live in the moment. I didn’t lose any friends, I even convinced some of my friends to stop social media. Instead, people started to respect me more and I overall enjoy my time with friends even more without having the need to take a picture/video of it for social media.
It’s crazy how I let social media dictate my happiness & self-image. I would constantly delete it because if I’m not posting a picture, or doing something “productive” on these apps, what’s the point? You sit & watch people’s lives all day, comparing yourself and wasting TIME. I’m only 17, but the constant exposure to people’s lives and their “happiness” constantly made me feel lonely, and ultimately, more anxious and depressed. I’ve felt so tired and anxious because I constantly felt like I had an image to uphold or somehow I’m missing out.... when in reality I become more productive, and more peaceful. This generation needs so much help.. everyone has become way more selfish, insecure, and relationship/friendships are way more harder to obtain. People worry so much about the likes & comments rather than forming actual bonds. It’s weird. Thank you for this video. Now with that being said, I’m about to take a peaceful nap & then do some school work. Lol everyone have a great day!

FIrst step is to delete the platforms. All your TRUE friends are able to call you on the phone. Everybody else isn't really thinking about you. FIND A HOBBY YOU ARE INTERESTED IN AND JUST DIVE INTO IT. I dont care what it is... just try to actually participate in it. Youll see how much time you've been wasting on narcissist personalities. TRUST ME. Quit the Social. Focus on your interests and DO them. Youll thank this channel. Youll also end up finding REAL friends when you get into that hobby you love. I started doing Archery. NOW?? All my friends share the same interest........ cause were all into Archery.
I got rid of all my social media in January 2021 and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve been happier and I don’t regret it. There is nothing to gain from social media only time wasted and lost that you will me ever get back…. I’ve spent more time doing tangible things and learning new things.

When I deleted all my socials I got texts and calls from every one of my close friends asking WHY? It felt weird that I had to almost defend my decision to so many people. It just proves how addicted people are to it and how it has changed how we treat each other. Not a fan of how humanity has evolved.

Chik Lit this is interesting. I want to get off FB and social media. BUT people will ask if everything is ok etc and that thought almost sounds so exhausting !!!
Zoe Brown To be honest it's only takes one explanation and then people will leave you alone. I've been off for a full year now and it was the best decision for me. I feel like I live my life better not worrying about having to post shit to feel validated by random people I went to high school with.
I deleted all my social networks accounts. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat aye even fuckin Tinder. And I feel fucking amazing, I don't feel I need to prove anything anymore.

I quit social media for about 4 months now and there's a lot things that I realized: 1) I dont get to compare myself to other people 2) No one really cares about me except the people closest to me 3) I can sleep better 4) I get things done in a day without interruptions 5) Keeps me more connected to my family 6) I'm happier without it
Someone said, "if you're using something for free then may be you are the product." Every social media companies are doing the same. They use users data as their product. They sell it and earn tons of money.
the problem is, even if you quit Facebook etc, its too late. they already have your details. and they always will and theres nothing you can do about it. its sad
I am gonna quit ALL OF MY SOCIAL MEDIAS today. I am so sick of using it. I am so sick of losing concentration and time. I am so sick of the fact that I know I am wasting time but I still can't get off my phone. I hate the feeling of how the first and the last thing I do every day before I sleep and wake up is checking on my instagram, snapchat, WhatsApp... I am controlled by it. I hate the feeling of being powerless. I hate how I am so addicted to it that I check my social media so often I hate how it becomes the only thing I do when I have free time. I hate how it makes me feel anxious without my phone. I hate how I have not been focusing on my studies. i hate how my concentration time and my memory is getting worse. It makes me sad sometimes to see everyone posting nice pics and having a great life. I hate the feeling of how I am losing time and end up being stressed for not finish a day's work. I hate procrastinating. I hate how my mind drifts off when I start studying. I hate how I would start thinking about my social media and stuff when I have actual serious work to do and end up using it every 30 mins. I hate how I feel excluded when I see pics without me on my friend's insta. I hate how I feel depressed and lonely because of Instagram. I hate how frustrated I feel when my friends didn't reply me. I would have none of these problems if social media didn't exist because in real life my frds are all really nice to me. Therefore, I have made up my mind and I am going to quite social media. I will give an update in a month. Social media is making me stupider. I dont want a life like this anymore. I want to start a real life with real time.

Dr. Cal Newport's special is his ability to tell a captivating story and engage with the audience as a human being. Instead of bombarding listeners with numbers and theories, he attaches his lecture with anecdotes and accessible examples. This way, the abstract ideas of productivity and technology seem even more crystal clear. By grounding his arguments in real-life situations, Newport establishes a connection with his audience that stand out even more--a point for which they will remember him. Moreover, his steady voice, along with an upright yet easygoing tone, gives his message the mark of gravitas without feeling overwhelming or unapproachable. This makes his speech all the more potent and relates to people. That is the magic which lies at the root of his effectiveness as a speaker: this balance in self-confidence which people can still get close up to.

Two years ago, I didn't have a phone or any social media, I was more productive in school in doing my daily duties and more focused and smart, but after I used social media I plunged into this whirlpool of distraction and comparisons, feeling like a bottomless well, so a month ago I decided to leave Instagram and any means distract my focus and now I feel great peace and calmness that fills my life

I haven't used social media in about 2 years, and I've felt liberated ever since. I find that it incurs people to follow the herd, rather than thinking critically and coming to one's own conclusions. Plus, I do not have 900 friends in real life, so why does my Facebook have that many. I'm a misanthrope anyway. I'm not missing out😃
I'm pretty sure you guys are aware that when people are discussing social media platforms, they're usually referring to the ones like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. Yes, RUclips is a "social media" platform, but I don't think I have to explain why RUclips is in a different sect of social media.
Of course yt is quite different. You can't use it to stalk people, and people can't use it to stalk you. You can't post 10000000 photos of your dumb holidays (let me tell you frankly, nobody cares). The other social networks are based on the idea that everything that happens in our lives is worth sharing with everyone even if it's not. Can't say the same thing for yt, just think how posting a photo on insta is accessible to everyone and how editing a great video here takes time, practice, and great skills.
I hope you forever stay in the world of no social media use to continually inform us of the way back. I was born in 1997 and fortunately spent years of my childhood phoneless and in field to play. I also felt the surge of changes that came with the use of social media and I must say that having known what it felt like when it's not ubiquitous was quite a factor for me to slowly disengage in its use now. I got to a point when my mind was tired of the overload of information but my hands automatically looks and scrolls up to infinity. If people don't realize this invisible trade that's going on, they might actually lose sooner the greatest gift that we have; to focus and appreciate time as it is. May God bless you Professor.

All of my friends and family seem to think im going through some type of crisis cause i'm 21 and quit facebook and instagram. It's sad that we live in a world where choosing to not have social media accounts is seen as something "crazy".
What? Seriously? "What do you have to hide?" now THAT is crazy!! I cant explain how much happier and at peace I feel with myself since deleting social media. Last week after posting my answer to Jayplop I took the plunge and permanently deleted my instagram. Since then, I've gotten uni work done thats due in weeks, I've taken up my bible reading again and i've landed an interview for a job that could really further my career. If people just let the obsession with being "connected" all the time go, they'd realise how much time we really waste on these apps.
Well whats wrong with "crazy". I am not in social media (except youtube). People say me crazy or more. I say,"Well, if that's your defination of crazy then I am crazy.I am happy to be crazy." I know its a little shameless but it works.
People specially on Facebook don't realize they are actually spending their own life in looking at someone else's life. LIVE YOUR LIFE! You don't have much time left...

You Tube isn't really social media. ..

Yaaah for you! You made a very wise move.

I’ve been off social media and I’ve lost weight, read more books, and have hung out with friends. I’ve also seen a mental gap btwn those who are on it (they tend to believe conspiracy theories and quick to be angered..). Thank goodness I see this with my own eyes.

quit all my social media and im happier with my life because im living it, not recording, sharing, posting about it and checking those of others! No unhealthy comparisons, no simulated social relationships, no wasting time checking information i just don't need to know, just real present moments and the wholeness of a full experience not posted online for the people i went to school with years ago to look at. DO IT!
How do you keep up with current events, news and such?
i think that we could keep ourselves updated by spending more time on news websites instead social media...if i'd check the news instead of look at facebook everytime, i'd probably be more updated then ever ;)
Hi! :), Can you explain how did you quit it?

I've been off of social media for about 4 months now. I barely use my phone - only use to call and watch RUclips videos on spirituality. I walk around now appreciating the beauty in everyday life. It makes me sad to see everyone always staring at their phones. It's even sadder to know that I used to be one of them.
Super Peter very true

Awakened Soul what videos would you recommend for spirituality?
No social media was the best decision i've ever made
Chloe Cozzetti same here bro
Yeah social media makes me feel the same way. I get stressed about keeping a perfect online reputation which is obviously impossible. Also, seeing all the other people reacting to other's post makes me subconsciously jealous.
Chloe Cozzetti
Same for me, it makes me feel more stressed. I have a Facebook account, but I barely use it. But people react like I'm some kind of freak when I say I don't like social media.
That won't resolve your source of problem.

Social media is a complete waste of time. These platforms routinely lead to anxiety, isolation and unhappiness across all ages. Cheers to TED talks!!

Me too !
I'm not focused on Instagram and Snapchat anymore.

honestly....no1. The question to ask is.......who did AND why? Peace and quiet is hard to find in current years.....bcuz, social media BS and whatnot.
I don't consider RUclips a social media therefore I'm keeping it. I learn a lot from it.

You could use Google search, RUclips and books to maximize knowledge gain.
I totally agree with your post and hope you're doing better with anxiety issues.

as i was reading your comment, i felt, in myself, the embarrasment, but in the same time the relief, of admitting i experienced the same thing (envy, lonelyness, secret want for attention)
The bitter and unexpected part was after 4 months after i quit fb, When i asked a friend some info, he said to me "don't You have facebook?" i was instantly thrilled that he noticed that i quit fb, and quickly and radiantly replied "No, since 4 months now! :D", only to get the second part of his answer "all the info is there!!" :))) great, he didn't actually care... :))
And out of 700 fb friends (700 people that i actually met and know), maybe 4 asked me why can't they see my fb page. but they didn't care why, although for me was an opportunity to talk about my feelings with even my closest friends...

Kalma Joebhaar I needed this thank youu
Wish I knew it at your age.. just realized I don’t need social media!
Im 17 too . I’m quiting social media for the next month and seeing how that goes .
Thank you for sharing!!! I will do the same. Best of luck.
This! I hate it when people take their phones out to escape silences while with someone

When I deleted all my socials I got texts and calls from every one of my close friends asking WHY? It felt weird that I had to almost defend my decision to so many people. It just proves how addicted people are to it and how it has changed how we treat each other. Not a fan of how humanity has evolved.
same bro
Explaining the decision to everyone becomes a pain. No one gets it, or is ready to accept it.
"I can explain it. But it will take about 14 minutes? - you know what? I can 'share' a link that succinctly explains my decision. Here you go: ruclips.net/video/3E7hkPZ-HTk/видео.html"
AdamAKTV to anybody
Yes! I felt same 2 years ago when I quit all my social media accounts 😉
Edith liberating isnt it. Why is there now inherent need for everyone to have an IG or facebook its ridiculous. I use if Ive been refered to it but the mindless idea of surfing it to keep up with everyone elses life is nonsense to me Id rather focus on me and work on me 👍
Protagonist i want to delete but it would be impolite for my family they are heavy users and if i delete mine they will keep asking why and want me to join the club again T_T. Fml. Anyhow i realize there are more and more people posting hate comments abt fb and insta lately on youtube. Happy to see you guys. I really do.
AdamAKTV Tinder is the worst!!
I quit social media for about 4 months now and there's a lot things that I realized:
1) I dont get to compare myself to other people
2) No one really cares about me except the people closest to me
3) I can sleep better
4) I get things done in a day without interruptions
5) Keeps me more connected to my family
6) I'm happier without it
i realized this 10yrs+ ago......
Someone said, "if you're using something for free then may be you are the product."
Every social media companies are doing the same. They use users data as their product. They sell it and earn tons of money.
when data is free...ur the product
So true,,, Remember Cambridge Analytica?
the problem is, even if you quit Facebook etc, its too late. they already have your details. and they always will and theres nothing you can do about it. its sad
Selling it to whom, and what they are doing with this data?
Sze Abby Great words. The most important is the real life. I’m tired of social media and specially of Instagram. Last week I deleted my twitter account but I can’t delete my Instagram account. I’m obsessed with that.
@@pronosticosdeportivos9517 you can do it...if you really want to delete Instagram too go through the withdrawals and as time goes on you will be ok

I quit FB, Twitter and Instagram. Ill keep RUclips for now. I don't have a TV and watch inspirational videos. I'm reading way more now and am much happier.

“carefully curated perfect portrayals” is such a beautifully raw description of social media. love it
I quit social media to stop pretending to be cool all the time.. And envying others "happening life"..
It's been 3 months now and I feel alot happy about myself.

How's it going? I haven't been on in '21 either
I wanna do that as well. Good luck to us.
I decided to quit Facebook and Twitter as starters today. I feel like it's the right thing to do because at this point I'm just... tired.
Whoever's reading this, please wish me luck!
Toka alokda You can do this!
Goodluck!!
Good luck! That would be a good start! Keep going !!

RUclips is open university, not social media.
tell that to the secret youtube police.
Censored tube.
Then why do they censor things??
There's a chrome extension called distraction free tube which disables recommendation and feed from youtube , I highly recommend it.
Open? That is laughable.
I am 33 years old and I quit social media about 6 months ago. I feel much happier. I noticed I got closer to the people that matter in my life (planning get togethers, texting, calling, FaceTime). Now I see social media as filling your mind with nonsense.
Absolutely! It is amazing how much closer you get to your friends and family by just simply deleting your social media accounts.
Wish me good luck

Shruti Sura so true, me too
Shruti Sura yeah and always worried about ,how many likes I would get or why aren't my followers increasing... etc

but you're still posting away on FB though
Two years ago, I didn't have a phone or any social media, I was more productive in school in doing my daily duties and more focused and smart, but after I used social media I plunged into this whirlpool of distraction and comparisons, feeling like a bottomless well, so a month ago I decided to leave Instagram and any means distract my focus and now I feel great peace and calmness that fills my life

In my experience, it is hard af in the beginning but after two months i felt confident in my life and noticed that my commonsense actually rose and i am the only one who is taking life seriously and the people around me focusing on their ego's, politicians mainly, hatred etc. After these many years i still feel it. Proud of myself that i took that life transformating decision
❤️
but it does feel lonely at times , no ? how do you deal with it ?
@@kundanahmed1458I think it’s to actively pursue new relationships and maintaining old ones, mindfully engaging in physical interaction to establish and grow a relationship instead of letting social media do the work: like “I’ll wait for them to see my social media posts so they can know who I am then figure out if I’m hey want to get close, and rather just be more present physically to suggest and plan interaction that buds friendship/ a relationship when you immediately feel these are people you can vibe with, or hold dear and want to stay in connection with
Five years ago I had 2 Facebook accounts. Everyone was telling about their private life... One evening I got tired of seeing all these comments from people I didn't even know "for real" and I closed my accounts. I felt liberated!
It feels good to get back to "real life" and spend less time on a PC or iPhone.
Sorry for mistakes, my written English is no good
Your English is very good 😊
So Proud of you
English grammar is not really necessary as long as we understand what you want to say, we are okay with that.
I quit facebook 5 years ago. I used the time that I spent on facebook to study. Got an associate degree in engineering science and a bachleor in mathematics. Never been happier. I congratulate you on getting your life back. I never allowed my sons to have social media. The best thing I have done as a parent besides breaking their play station. Lol.
Your written English is actually excellent! No mistakes in your post!!!
Left Facebook 2 months back and suddenly I have so much time, I am less judgemental, don't care what others are doing and focus more on building myself. I feel free!!
Dan P I don't see any belittling on this specific video yet? Just your comment.
Kamran Haider I'm with you on that.
Wise decision!

the only message social media has given me is that I happen to be less active than my friends which makes me feel lonely, jealous, worse and depressed

I agree
Don't count on it. If your friends were really so "active" would they have time to post all they do to facebook? Most of what you're seeing is a carefully cultivated lie. No reason to get depressed young man!
Watching this 8 years later only to realise his predictions were more than true and that social media has taken such a huge toll in our lives. I’m afraid it has become so important to the extent that to find a job, you need to have a proper LinkedIn profile… it’s scary

I'm not missing out😃
RaQuan Williams you're on social Media
RaQuan Williams hate to break it to ya- but RUclips is social media....
I'm pretty sure you guys are aware that when people are discussing social media platforms, they're usually referring to the ones like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. Yes, RUclips is a "social media" platform, but I don't think I have to explain why RUclips is in a different sect of social media.
RaQuan Williams I would like to hear how yt is'different'
I quit Facebook a month ago and it feels great. So tired of feeling like if I wasn’t posting, I wasn’t living. Plus it’s all fake.

Kristin Bradshaw I quit Facebook for good today too. Nothing in Facebook are real , worst of all these days it’s more of a platform for toxic ranting and cyber bullying .
All of my friends and family seem to think im going through some type of crisis cause i'm 21 and quit facebook and instagram. It's sad that we live in a world where choosing to not have social media accounts is seen as something "crazy".
Hi Ana, I am also 21 and thinking of quitting social media. I just want to ask how your experience has been so far
Oh my god mine too! Everyone thinks I’m crazy , it’s insane.
What?
Ana I feel you,
People specially on Facebook don't realize they are actually spending their own life in looking at someone else's life. LIVE YOUR LIFE! You don't have much time left...
I find instagram even worse : S ..
