I just started streaming on twitch, but already have a small following on YT, so I may start here. Working on getting a used desktop and upgrading it though, because my current computer doesn't cut it.
I try to do most of these as I have Amazon Blacksmith set up with the equipment I'm associated with and bits subs and donations but the rest I'm finding incredibly difficult as the funding for merch is expensive and sponsors don't exactly look at me even though growth is no issue. Do you have any info on how I could increase profit and growth even while promoting and thinking 5 to 10 steps ahead at all times? I have everything planned out. Now it's just getting there that's the hard part.
1k viewers and 700 a month is NUTS, i wish I knew who it was so I could study what not to do, as this is an issue way deeper than just money making opportunities.
I'm still a growing Affiliate streamer, but this is exactly what I do! I stream my art and play games, so I have a Patreon for my art and I sell commissions. I also have been selling vinyl stickers that you can put on your car, laptop, desktop, etc. Always trying to think of new ways to diversify for both art and for gaming. Hoping for sponsors one day, but one step at a time, right? :) Thanks for the videos! They're always so informative.
In minecraft there is “merch” called cloaks you can wear in minecraft, they are about 12 euros each, big youtubers make SO MUCH money off of a few pixels in a game
I see a lot of streams that use emotes or logos of famous characters that they obviously don't own the original copyright for, is there a specific place I can go to learn about the legal and taboo lines to expect to walk in these cases? I know it's not something you do so maybe you don't know but "search engine" isn't turning anything up. I guess I'll browse r/twitch to see if there's a topic going, but I would also like to hear what others think about this here.
Harris actually uses music he doesn't have licenses for, as well as an animation or two. His response when I've asked him was something along the lines of "As long as the largest streamers do it and get away with it, I'm more or less safe. No one cares enough on Twitch."
Right, and as for music and featuring memes I agree it's not something to worry about, aside from the fact that it is transformative, but that's a separate issue from having all of your Emotes as Brian Griffin or Link and trying to brand yourself around that character. I guess it's something that's still developing but wanted to know if there were serious discussions. Thank you for your input so far.
I feel mixed about becoming a serious streamer, however, I do appreciate and like your videos. I find them very informative and I just really like learning and hearing about what you have to say. Its really nice to see there is someone out there helping with this kind of information. Not the usual you just have to love what you do and have fun and you'll grow.
Great video! I just received my very first Twitch payout a couple days ago. It took me 5 months to make that $107. But I was still so proud of it! However, I am still trying to come up with other ways to earn money. I play Sims 4 and just started creating custom backgrounds for the game. I am starting to build a website where I can display them and my other content. I plan on opening commissions for people have me create some for them. I'm also looking into find a merch site with more reasonable prices than SLOBS merch. Any suggestions on that would be very appreciated.
So ive watched around 20 of your videos. I never subscribed since im not a streamer or a gamer. But every time i see your thumbnail, I click on it cuz i know its useful content fir building my youtube channel. Im subbing today. Your content is top notch. You’re entertaining and the info you pass on is so dang useful. I enjoy the tips on audio and making money through diversifying your digital and tangible portfolio. Thanks for everything!
Your videos have helped me improve so much! I really appreciate everything you have done. Just got affiliate last night because of all your tips and help!
You're opening my brain like a Pandora's Box Harris, I hope I'd be able to keep up with all the ideas you just opened! Thank you again for the great content and idea!
TreatStream is also a thing that exists - while it doesn't /make/ you money, viewers can send you a set food meal off grubhub/etc so you don't have to /spend/ money to buy it yourself. It's a little more expensive for the buyer than usual but it automatically includes tip, and a portion of it goes to charity as well!
Harris just wanna tell you THANK YOU so much you inspired me to crate my own RUclips Channel and Change things in my LIFE. I didn't have any income yet.... but hope to get some in future. If you have some time jump to watch my first let's play
Thanks again Harris. My goal is to provide a service to streamers, and companies. The Twitch aspect is more of a free service I provide and my viewers provide motivation and companionship. The difficult part is the transition period where I still need to work full time while I make the transition. I bring this up because I hear most streamers say things like "I just want to play games with my friends". I may be off base but I don't think that is a realistic goal. You need to find some other value you can provide.
This is one of the most underrated channels I have ever watched on youtube. The content has been this great since I found this channel when it was ta 2-3 thousand subs! Great job on he amazing content Harris, I have taken a lot of inspiration from your videos, that have driven me to make my twitch stream a lot better than it originally was(not plugging btw), and to start posting youtube videos in the near future. You are unlucky to not be far bigger than you are now, and you will inspire a lot more people like me.
4:09 OK I just, without thinking, pressed like when you told me to. Its 2019 and the first time i've done that when someone told me to on youtube ever. Hats off my good sir.
Man... you have helped me so so much... i started active uploads 4 months ago, setup my room, the camera everything and started working on being natural in front of the camera... started editing videos and i learned so much... im at around 17k views a month now when i was only at 4k for months ago... subs are going up to! And im not rushing it i love what i do so ill keep doing it and ill try to get better and learn as time goes by! Thanks once again!
I’ve failed many time at entrepreneurship. THIS is what I was looking for! Now I need to rethink my whole approach from scratch. I don’t have a “good” computer or even a webcam. And I’m still figuring out twitch, Facebook creator, and Facebook all at the same time. Maybe this is where I apply my stimulus money... hahaha. But on a serious note, I feel quite overwhelmed with everything. And though your vids are super inspiring, I need to be able to sit dow with someone to discuss how to structure everything... a way for me to write out an actual action plan. Thank you for providing so much more value than anyone one else I’ve come across one these streaming sites. Would it be possible to get in contact with you on these matters?
Great video as usual my man!! Thanks for the constant quality. I view this channel as a competitor as the channel I have to learn to be better than... so without you knowing it.. you push my content forward with your content.
Wonderful insight regarding income that most people probably don't think about. I'll admit I'm guilty of seeing most streamers get crazy amounts of donations and thinking that's what will pay the bills in the end. If I ever start making money from this hobby, I'll be sure to keep this video in the back pocket.
As someone who is almost a twitch affiliate, watching your videos really help me with the mindset of what to do when I decide to go a bit more dedicated. Is there something I should focus on first?

Could you do a stream overlay video explaining Shrouds overlay and donation alerts? He has some really cool effects where when he gets bits a little ball or icon or whatever it is changes colors while the colors fade into it like some little flames that follow a rope till the end where they flame touches the gun powder and there is that little explosion and you got this other color. Same for his alerts as they are very similar. I would love to know how to set that up and design it so really hope you can do that!
I kinda get confused as I tries to interpret it in my own way and different thoughts. The merch and products for example. How do you diversify it say if some is good at graphic design then they make clothing and such.
I love your tutorials I was wondering it’ll there was a plan to cover a dual Pc streaming set up. Your formate and a video like that I think would help educate a lot of us on the subject. Thanks, stay awesome.
What can small steamers do in order to help them grow? Getting sponsors, selling merchandise, and being monetized on RUclips happens AFTER you've made it! I watch your videos for information but only hear advice for bigger streamers.
I've been hoping to make content creating a side hustle (I feel like Harris is cringing already). And all the videos on monetization and actually generating revenue from these sites are making me think that I'm making it infinitely more difficult on me by feeling like it's better or "the right thing to do" by refusing to take money from twitch and google ads. - I'm there to use their platforms. It's where most people are. But I don't like them as companies. I'd rather work with companies I like and feel good about like you say.
Which revenue source do you plan on improving next?
