The DJI microphone is at a much higher price I wouldn't even suggest it in the same realm. Not to mention when this video was created that thing wasn't even out yet
Great video but may I just point something out to your viewers? I use the same set-up as you with the RODE & Cynova mic adapter purchased from DJi. I couldn't get mine to work with no mic symbol showing on the screen. If I pushed hard then it appeared & worked but as soon as I released the pressure it failed. If you look carefully there is a rubber gasket that surrounds the USB-C plug on the adapter & this is pushing it away from the recess in the Osmo Action. By carefully picking it out & sliding up the USB-C plug to remove it, it then fits perfectly & the mic works every time. It also has the advantage that the mic adapter fits far better & doesn't pop out so easily. The rubber gasket is to give you moisture protection if you are wearing on a motorbike helmet install, (I am) but I use silicone mouldable ear plugs from Amazon and surround the adapter once fitted. Hope that helps.
I'm passing on it. Pre-ordered the GoPro Hero 8 Black. I was so disappointed in DJi for not even thinking about the mic adapter to begin with and they still haven't even fixed the heavy front facing camera lag. And now, we're still encouraged to by a third party adapter too. I almost started getting into the DJi ecosystem and purchased the Osmo Mobile 3 (which I absolutely love), for my iPhone 11 Pro Max, which I will be using a lot for awesome B-roll and Intro/ Outro footage but the Hero will be my main vlogging camera. Awesome video though Brother!
Thanks, I just got my Osmo Action, and the Microphone set up was easy and works! I didnt get a case until I was sure I was going to keep the camera. So far I'm pretty jazzed about it.
If you unplug the external mic mid-recording, does the the camera just switch back to the internal mic or does the audio go dead? Thanks for the video! super helpful.
I am curious also, does a regular USB-C to 3.5mm adapter work just the same? The Apple version does not work, but perhaps Apple has put some kind of chip inside of it that will not allow the Osmo Action (version 1 camera) to recognize the "mic" is plugged in...
I have the Smallrig Cage and the Ulanzi Cage. It looks like I can Dremel cut the ulanzi Cage easily to accommodate and use Restoleum paint to paint it. The smallrig one looks to be more difficult to cut to accurately fit the adapter. However smallrig replied to me and they are working on a cage that will accommodate the Cynova mic adapter.
Updated Small Rig works just fine with the adapter. I recommend it, very sturdy. Just make sure to get the 2.0 upgraded version. Also better than the others you can remove the battery without having to take it out of the case.
I'm still trying to see how to mount the Rode to the top of the supplied Osmo Action cage for that 'ultimate set up'. Works great with the PGY tech frame, but can it be used with the original? Have you covered this elsewhere? Anybody have any tips?
Nice video. Can you please tell me where you brought the tripod, mic and adapter from? Also, please confirm what is the charge life of this camera. Thanks!
I have had quite an issue with the Cynova adapter. The plug seems too short and does not make a solid connection. DJI sent me the contact info for Cynova and they have been unresponsive after several emails. From the forums, it seems a few of us have received a faulty batch of adapters and DJI or Cynova have not offered any solution.
How hard could it be to just add a mic plug on the camera? A couple of years ago I was thinking at some point a action camera would be built with a mic plug in a sensible place. My sony something 100v has a mic plug.... but at the bottom right next to the mounting screw....
Nice set-up! Can you power the Osmo Action continuously with power from the charger, or is the charger for charging the Osmo only, after which you must unplug it?
Hi, I bought this adapter but when I connect it to my Osmo action I don’t get the Microphone icon. Do you know how can I solve this problem. You seem to be very experienced with this type of accessories and you do a lot of reviews. Yes f you know how to fix the issue I would appreciate your help.
Bey bro, love ur vids, can u plz tell me where you got the quarter 20 mount where you add the DJI osmo action too, not the grip but the mount. 7:17 I couldn’t find one and I really need one! Thx. You really helped me out, ur awesome!
I have the action and tried using an adaptor connected to my Rode wireless go. It recognises theres a mic attatched but will not pick up the sound from the mics, even though they are fully working. Any ideas. The Amazon link on your description links to the main page fpor adaptors, not the exct one you are using.
I'm starting to think the guys who are suggesting the wireless mic actually work for DJI based on their generic photos and inability to answer questions
Air Photograph: My Smartree PowerStick did not come with the 1/4x20 adapter. Any guidance you can give on where I might be able to pick up the adapter would be awesome. I went to the Smartee website and got lost imediately. I have confident you can break the code.
A possible explanation for not having an on-brand adapter is that they might be working on a cage/external battery/built-in shotgun mic type GoPro 8 themselves, which takes time to engineer it right. Meanwhile the Cynova adapter has been put in their store and can later be accompanied/replaced by this “official” device.
HI, First of all I woudl liek to thank you for the amazing content that you create. In your videos you answer a lot of questions that peole is concerned. I like your style and the way how you structure your videos. I woudl like to ask you something about the adapter. I bougth it but I dont knwo if the adapter works becasue I dont get the microphone icon. DO you knwo what it coukd be the problem? or how can I fix it ? I would really appreciate if you take the time and help me with my inquiry
Thanks for the review. When using the Rode VIdeoMicro on the Cynova, are you using the TRS to TRS default cable or do I need to purchase a TRRS adapter?
I am using the default TRS cable that comes shipped with them. Most microphones don’t ship with a TRRS to be used with smart phones that is usually a separate purchase
does this change the phone when you used with osmo pocket and expansion pack? Just got pocket but GF took it to work so I don't know if phone charges when its plugged into pocket
Hey, product rode wireless go2 :one of the transmitter did not capture audio using the cynova adapter in osmo action. But the other transmitter was able to capture the audio using the same rode cable with adapter in osmo action. My question is why second transmitter did not capture whereas the first one did. Is there anything I need to check
Finally solution found.. we need to change to “merge” mode instead “split” mode. After doing so, even if the first transmitter is switched off, 2nd transmitter able to receive audio now. Also first transmitter works as usual in merge / split mode.
Have this widget and a TRS mic but am not getting the little mic to show up on the screen, SW rev is 0110.00.40 ( 7251) any ideas what is not working, all three items , Cam, widget adapter, and TRS mic are new?
@@AirPhotography 3rd party is one good example and maybe this is the official one just the rep was new? If this is true that it works this means we have hope for a DIY usb type and cable mod. no passw protection. But that failed when the pocket port was plugged in so there goes that idea?
The microphone adapter and the vlog case are also available from Aliexpress, and the microphone adapter is very much cheaper there with freepost too. I am wondering if the adapter would also work with the Osmo Pocket?
Great video. Can i request you a video? If possible can you combine osmo action camera on a osmo mobile 3 latest gimbal? There's are very few failed attempts on RUclips doing that experiment. Most of the adapter plates in the market don't work. There are some 3D printed models in Chinese websites like Alibaba. If you could explain how it works, that would be great.
Can this audio adapter will record the audio while charging at the same time? Because gopro mic adapter is not recording any audio if it is charging at the same time.
@@AirPhotography Similar question but does a plugged-in power bank act as an external power or just charging. I need to record continuously for 4+ hours? Thanks,
maybe you can help me, people say the Deity D4 Duo Won't Work with the osmo. the front side of the mic will but the back wont. i dont see why not, its a trs plug on it,, do you know?

Any issues with the mic losing connection? It I am having droppings issue with the stock case and the pgytech one too. I am using t he small rode mic too.
None whatsoever. I was actually going to touch base on that because I watch the video in the Facebook group where a gentleman was having connection problems where it would disconnect frequently. I tried to re-create that issue and it stays solid. It could be a bad cable or even a defective unit
For microphones I'd go for the DJI Mic! It's got better features than other microphones we have now and with a charging case too!
The DJI microphone is at a much higher price I wouldn't even suggest it in the same realm. Not to mention when this video was created that thing wasn't even out yet
Interesting how the built in mic seems to have a clearer sound quality than the RODE
It sure does, i don't think this adapter works that well. I tried 4 different mics with it and none of them sound very good
see my comment it will explain it
Did you get to try any powered mics to see it helps at all. Maybe an issues
eggy1711 just bought one today, I will check
I suppose it's because the mic is pointed away from him as he talks. Sound from rode is way worst than build in mic X.x
Man.. there's a lot of things to combine together in this segment of videography creation.

The dji adaptor is way better then the go pro mic adaptor due to the size of it . Best of luck to you and congrats on over 100k subs.

The "DJI Mic" (~$200 Lavalier Mic) seems to be compatible with the smallrig cage, smallrig shows it on their product images.

That's my problem too. The adapter doesn't make a solid connection so the mic cord pulls it loose from the camera. And, apparently, no help from DJI.
