I have the Samsung usb c cable, and I used the TRRS cable with it for my shotgun mic. However, there’s one question: after connecting I cannot see the mic icon on the screen. What I can see is the green volume line flickering right at the top when I speak into the mic. Am I right to assume that the mic is working and well connected?
@@robertjames-life4768 yes I am aware of that. You have to choose between having the cold shoe clip or the male USB-C plug. If you choose the cold shoe then you have to use a separate cable like with the Rode.

yes that is what I used and it worked for me. I already owned it so it was worth trying. However,, I can't guarantee that all versions of their adapter works the same. Thanks for this video! I'm still back on the Osmo Action (1) but looking to jump to the 4. Have you used both OM4 and Rode Wireless mics with split channels? When I'm using both Rode Wireless mics on the Osmo Action 1 (and using the Rode split mode), it would only register channel 1. The only way to use both transmitters was to use the "merge" option on the Rode. I haven't found anyone yet that can confirm whether both transmitters can be used on the OM4 in split mode. Having the audio in split mode would help cut out unwanted noises from one speaker if the second person was talking, etc in post. Thanks in advance!

I use the dead cats as I'm usually outside but never had problems with low audio when filming with my Samsung s22 ultra, any advice greatly appreciated ❤
Depends on the mic. With the Comica VM-10 that I showed in this video, you can. See it here 4:25. I have 2 of these mics for this reason. Link for that mic is in the description.

Did you just download the latest firmware? Because they changed it so now the mic icon doesn't appear any more. Just a audio level bar at the top of the screen.
@@freelyroaming yes I updated the firmware. I see the audio level bar. The sound that is recorded is a terrible hissing sound. I know the mic and receiver are working. Tested them on my m50 and my Hero 7. So frustrated right now.

@@iamcheck.thisout no it's an aftermarket cage by neewer. There are several ways to attach it but they all require some aftermarket parts. If you watch my other osmi action 4 video you will see the cage and find a link to it.

Hello and thank you for your video. I tried connecting my Rode Wireless Go II receiver to the Action 4 via USB cable (tried some cables and they behave all the same way). Long story short, i'm unable to get a stable connection with the receiver. Most of the times the Action 4 doesn't recognize it and after several tries it starts recognizing it, which makes this solution not really depenable on. The Action 4 looks to be functioning correctly, the PC connection works, the webcam mode works, the 3.5mm jack to USB adapter works. But the direct USB to USB connection doesn't (or doesn't always). Have you experienced this situation and how did you fix it? I'm running on latest firmware at the date. Thanks.
@@freelyroaming Good to know. There must be something with my setup. When it starts to work, it goes on also after several power on/off, but if i left the camera off for some time, say a couple hours, then it becomes unstable again. Really puzzling.
Do you happne to know what you had the cameras mic gain set at? I just tried using a Rode Wired Lav Mic and the audio was blown out. I checked and the gain was set to +6. I'll do some testing to find the right level I'm just curious what your experience has been.
Hello! Thanks for the video. Do you have an issue with usb-c connection if start record from sleeping camera and using top button. I have Comica VM10 Pro and Rode Wireless Me and on both mics first 5 seconds of audio is broken by clipping effect. If camera is working and you start record all sound in video is clear.

I use a Tentacle a Track E 32bit little pocket recorder and sync in post. Final Cut Pro makes syncing easy. Thank you for explaining other options.
Any advice how to sync audio in FCP? i drag the audio/video clips manually till they look/sound in sync, Is there an easier way?

Yes. The latest software upgrade removed the mic icon and replaced it with the audio levels bar on top.

Thanks for the video. FYI the DJI microphone comes with a cold shoe mount so you could attach it the same way as the Rode.
Yes you could although in order to use digital output via the USB-C adapter that is included, you wouldn't place in the cold shoe.
@@freelyroaming actually there is another USB-C output on the side of the microphone transmitter, just get a short USB-C to USB-C and away you go.

Yes the OA4 can definitely record in split mode to the left and right channels separately from the Rode Wireless Go 2.

Maybe your gain on the camera is turned down? Have you checked that?

Depending on the mic in using I will adjust the gain. If I use the digital output of the comica then I would mainly use the gain dial on the mic

It does come with a plastic cage but that one does not have a cold shoe for a mic.

@@freelyroaming Good to know. There must be something with my setup. When it starts to work, it goes on also after several power on/off, but if i left the camera off for some time, say a couple hours, then it becomes unstable again. Really puzzling.

Do you happne to know what you had the cameras mic gain set at? I just tried using a Rode Wired Lav Mic and the audio was blown out. I checked and the gain was set to +6. I'll do some testing to find the right level I'm just curious what your experience has been.
Hello! Thanks for the video. Do you have an issue with usb-c connection if start record from sleeping camera and using top button. I have Comica VM10 Pro and Rode Wireless Me and on both mics first 5 seconds of audio is broken by clipping effect. If camera is working and you start record all sound in video is clear.
I usually wait until I see the microphone icon on the screen before I do anything in front of the camera. It can take a few seconds from time to time
@@freelyroaming Good advise! But my camera mounted on chest during bike trips and I just count for 5 seconds and then speak to mic. 👍😂

I don't get any mic icon popping up automatically. The mic works with other action cameras and my phone, just not the action 4. Any adeas hot to activate the mic on action 4?
The latest update no longer shows the mic icon.

I have the Action 4 in the cage that came with it... I see no shoe to attach an external mic...hmmm.
That's right. You need an after market cage.
