The Action 3 also has the same min / max shutter settings. But not the Action 2 as far as I remember. The ghosting/artefacting caused by the digital stabilisation, dissappears at minimum shutter 200/240 (same for any camera with digital stable, zv1, zv-e1 included. That's why there's always something weird with the picture on any camera when recording on shutter priority which most probably was set to 50/60 and digital stabe is on)
Mine arrived yesterday and glad it did cos it made me stumble across this channel today. I hope this guy's channel grows cos he's got the perfect balance of being engaging and informative while also managing to be funny without being annoying. Cheers for the great vid bro.
My personal preference for the frame rate is 60p more so than resolution (1080 or 4K). This is because I like the live broadcast look for my vlogs because 30p or lower frame rates look less "natural" and tend to pre-age the look of the video, so it has nothing to do with using it for slow motion. Some people like the look of the slower frame rates because it gives a more cinematic film-like look. Also, you can always lower the frame rate in post, but not the other way around (30p to 60p). It really is a personal preference, like you said.
Yess! Thanks for the shutter range setting tip! I accidentally found it ONCE on my Action 3 and never realized how so I thought I must've imagined it or something lol
Thank you so much for that last tip! I think that's what I messed up the last time when I recorded in a bit of a low light setting. Somehow, the quality of my video was terrible after I uploaded it to RUclips. I'll try to limit the auto-shutter to 1/100 ~ 1/8000 now and see whether that helps.

I just purchased this camera while trying to get away from GoPro. I tried the Ace Pro for a couple of weeks before sending it out. I just find that most of the videos I see with the Action 4, including this one, don't seem very "vibrant" to me. I've been shooting stuff and testing myself and I'm just underwhelmed. I don't want to have to do a post production. The default settings of GoPro and Ace Pro looked vibrant/warm to me either by default or using presets. So far, I haven't found a sweet spot with the action. And I've made all the changes everyone recommends.
Do you use the built in color profiles or do you shoot in D-Log and color grade in post? The "Vibrancy" you are seeing is usually a LUT in post or at least color correction.
@@mrmoss7467 Thanks for the response. I had gotten lazy with the GoPro (and Ace Pro) and was able to just use presets/standard and I thought it looked good. I wish it was that way with OA4. Now 3 months later, I go back and forth with experimenting with D-log and the LUT from DJI, though that looks not too much different than just using "auto" on a nice sunny day. I have found I'm lowering my expectations of what the "greens" should look like. Some thing the GoPro and AcePro are "too warm" or over-exposed I guess. Even when I play the LUT, I admit I haven't gone much further trying to improve the quality. Again, a bit spoiled/lazy coming out of my experience with the other cameras.
@@RamblinManMoto hey so I apply the DJI 709 conversion LUT then I do white balance followed by either another LUT for final correction from the 709 profile or manual correction.

Love all your videos but a quick question. Whilst using action 4 with fulaim wireless mics how do i get good audio when talking to people on the fly , like if im vlogging in cities and chatting to waiters or shop workers. If i wear my wireless then I'll only get me right? and if i use the onboard mic i may get too much background noise. Any suggestions? Or should i instead of wearing my mic just stick it to the side my action 4 or on the selfie stick.😂 thanks so much. Its driving me crazy
How long can you record in frame rates higher than 50fps for vlogging? Just got my OA4 and it overheats after 20 minutes 🥵 do you have issues with it as well?
#1 reason not to shoot in 4k: STORAGE SPACE. If you're vlogging, you want to be on the go and not have to deal with video storage. I filled up a 250gb SD card in 2 days of filming. Transferring 4k files also takes forever. Unless you're James Cameron, just shoot in 1080p. No one really cares at the end of the day.
I found with the shutter speed set to the 1/100-1/8000 range, I get glitches in low-light settings. I film walking tours and usually start and end in a subway station. On my first run with the Action 4, the interior footage was just unusable. But once I bumped that left number to 200 and put the iso at 100-1600, it's been smooth sailing everywhere I've used it. I really like how it handles transitioning in and out of low light.
Oooh niiice man!!!!! I’ll have to bump it up and try it. I think I’m not getting much crazy motion blur because it’s not completely dark when I’m filming!
@@fromia1The camera is supposed to store gyro data when you turn stabilization off, which you can then feed into an app like Gyroflow to stabilize the footage. Assuming it works, that might be the better option for exclusively low-light shoots. But, as long as you get the shutter speed right, rocksteady should be fine for mixed lighting (depending on what you're shooting, I suppose, e.g., walking vs mtb). I haven't tried rs+ yet, but I've seen some low-light mtb videos using it that didn't look so great.
I'm sooo conflicted about zv1 + wide angle + gimbal vs osmo action 4 and... wait for go pro 12 to see what's up. It's your videos dude. Great video ideally if your walking/vlogging you don’t want to have the shutter less than 200. Due to the way rocksteady works you will get loads of micro jitters with shutters under 200. It’s the same for when using active or gyro stab on Sony cams following the 180 degree shutter rule will lead to a bunch of jittery footage.

Hey ! I’m out of home right now without my Osmos, but I started a side by side comparison last week between my OA 2,3,4 and this shutter trick exist on the 3 but I think also on the 2 now (can’t check until the end of the week, but tell me if I’m wrong). Completely agree on what you said. 200 shutter is a real minimum if you want to keep Rocksteady working. But if you walk fast mot taking care or run gently, it’s dead : you’ll have jitter. By clear day, would say that 400 is the real minimum shutter to guaranty stabilisation. Below that, it can be good, but you’ll get jitter from time to time on bumps and road imperfections. But I noticed that in Auto, shutter was fluctuating between 800 and 2000 dep »ding on light. As it’s impossible to have any nice motion blur at 800 shutter, my conclusion is that I abandon the idea of trying to have any type of motion blur when I’m moving with this type of camera when in action. I’m now testing the rendering between a full auto shutter and a fixed shutter (let’s say 1000) ans a free range of iso like 100-800. Especially on wheeled véhicules, the difference may appear on the rendering on wheel spinning and their « stroboscopic » effect (hope I’m clear on that point, I’m not a native speaker). My conclusion is that I’ll use 180 rule /nd filters on this camera only for static shots (or very smooth pan) and will disable the Rocksteady because it’s easier to re stabilize in post than having this bad jitter effect caused by Rocksteady at low shutter.
