This was Joanne's last Oscar appearance as a Presenter and George's sole Oscar appearance. They made a great pair.

+JerseySurvivor Yes, indeed. Class all the way. Joanne later said that the Oscar was "of less value than a spittoon," probably because her husband had lost so many times and despite her own win years earlier.

TheChannel.TV lol funny she would say that. Her win gave her a career. Newman ended up with three. Not too shabby.

Academy should ask her to announce Best Picture these days before too late, she's the last standing best actress winner from the 50s period! What a legend!

The Sound of Music should be nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.

As far as I'm aware musicals never really had a shot in the Screenplay categories. My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins both lost out to Becket the previous year, Chicago lost to The Pianist nearly 20 years ago in this category. Even West Side Story didn't win for its Screenplay, it lost to Judgement at Nuremberg.

You aren't a "former Oscar winner" unless what they gave you used to be an Oscar.

There are several iconic 1960's hairstyles. The gals could wear it long, flowing, parted in the middle...or like Joan Woodward did, with the upswept...a ravishing beauty, btw. The guys could wear it like George Peppard did, unparted...which I did, when I had hair. Looking back, somebody like Cary Grant, or Paul Newman, looked much classier.
