Many who were around in the 70s and 80s likely remember being able to buy comic books in grocery stores, drugstores newsstands etc. In this day and age, the only place available to purchase comics is in comic book stores. What happened? In this video we discuss the transition of comic book distribution and discuss why comics will only ever be available for purchase in comic book shops moving forward.
    Enjoy!

Right on, welcome back Dante! I'm sorry to hear about the struggles you have experienced the last few months. I hope things are getting better. I think the podcast format you have shown here is great. Its never really about the video, its about what you have to say and I think I speak for many on the channel when I say we enjoy the perspective you bring to the hobby. Keep it up and I look forward to next video!

Welcome back D! Totally understandable about your absence. I have suffered depression in the past myself. It’s not pretty and no matter what you do it’s so hard to snap out of it. You do what you need to in order to take care of yourself. We’re always here for you man! Great vid by the way. Great points! I agree.
Don’t think we’ll ever see comics in drugstores again. Sigh…

Great video Dante! Glad to see you back. I totally agree with what you covered here. Also, I myself was wondering too how Archie manages to sell using the old comic distribution model

Thanks for sharing man. I've been there, and still struggle with anxiety and depression. A funk for me can last a week or longer sometimes... Glad youre back. This topic takes me back to the late 70s walking to The Newsstand with my grandmother for comic books. At the corner of James and East Broad in Columbus, Ohio. Sadly no longer there, but that had by far the biggest comic selection in town before the real Comic Shops opened up here. ❤

Thanks for sharing Christopher! It’s been great to hear from people experiencing the same issue. You know it’s an issue too when you have no reason for the depression. You just wake up in a funk and yes it lasts about a week. Thanks also for sharing those memories about walking to the newsstand with your grandma. Besides them comics themselves I think people have a lot of nostalgia about how they used to get their comics too

Dante: welcome back my friend! I have told you this several times, but you have the best comic book channel and commentary on RUclips. It’s always great to hear your thoughts. I believe if the podcast theme works best for you, then go for it. I’m here because I enjoy hearing what you have to say - as I believe we all are. And, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers because I suffer from the same things as you - August and September were very bad for me this year - it was all I could do just to work and do the “absolutely necessary things” - I couldn’t do anything else - nor did I want to. So yes, I totally understand where you’re coming from, and I’m sorry to hear that’s you have been going through this as well.
As always, great video. Comic books used to be everywhere, and it’s sad this is no longer the case. At least they’re still around, and I’m glad we can all get together here and reminisce about the good old days - as well as the current titles. God bless.☺️
PS: I have been reading Archie since I was five years old - they definitely have the grocery store business model down. Recently, I have seen some digests at my grocery store from Marvel and I hope they will continue experimenting with this format.

Thanks James! I really appreciate the support and you sharing your story as well. It’s been very encouraging to hear from so many viewers who suffer the same issues. I know what you mean. You just wake up one morning and for no reason you can’t do it. I was lucky enough to be able to still make it to work and do the things I needed to, but it was torture doing so. Glad to hear marvel is experimenting with some digests in your area. They haven’t made it to my area yet, but I will definitely keep a lookout. I love the digest format for comics. Even the 100 page giants. Great for casual readers who don’t necessarily want to brave the complex continuity many titles have.

I miss the days of buying comics from my 7-11, BX's, PX's, Cub Foods, King Soopers, Albertsons, and Safeways( which you can still buy Archie oddly enough!) as a kid. While I couldn't afford comics at the time, I made sure to read them just to know what's happening and who was the next new threat..where in my era..was the infinity gauntlet, Carnage debut, Death of Superman and more!

Yeah I long for those days too. I never had the opportunity to buy from those places because I was too young. That’s why I’m picking up Archie now lol

If I remember correctly they did have Marvel digest stuff about 5 years ago unless I dreamt that lol. So thats a good idea you had! And of course you already mentioned the DC books at Walmart that came out in the last couple years

D, newsstands are the thing of the past. We get our contents online 90-95% of the time and free most of the time.
