Great video D! Another trend that comes to mind for me is the team ups of the 70s like Marvel Team-Up, Marvel 2in1 and even the DC Marvel team ups like Superman vs Spider-Man.
I never really thought about trends, but now that you mention it, yeah there were a lot. I think my fav. trend was the macho comics of the 90s. So fun!
Another thought provoking video, Dante. Always enjoy these videos you put out where you go in-depth about a topic. One of my favorite trends was the team books, because I didn't have a lot of money as a kid, and team books allowed me to see a roster of heroes for the cost of one book. Avengers and X-men were my favorite, but also loved Alpha Flight, West Coast Avengers, and X-factor.
Thank you my friend! I never thought about the value that the team up books provided, but you’re right. Thanks for sharing that story. I love the team up books as well
I got early access to this episode because I listened to the podcast! Lol What about the trend of sexy female characters in the 90s? I remember those swimsuit marvel issues of the 90s. Hilarious.
I really enjoyed this! Great worke Dante. My fav. was the superhero team trend of the 80s.
I have lately been listening to you as I work out and the time passes fast. Thank you for the great content, buddy!
Thank you my friend, I really appreciate it..im trying my best to grow this channel as a place to talk about comics books seriously. The art, stories, and history… I find doing videos on the trendy collectible side of collecting so superficial, but at times it can be hard because that is what’s popular. If you get a minute… a review on apple podcasts or your favorite podcast directory would be great… it really helps out. Thanks again for all the support!
@@Dante19883 I just did. And, congratulations again on hitting the 10K mark - you’re closing in on 11K as I write. Keep doing what you’re doing because I believe your channel is about to blow up (in a good way).☺️
You forgot Event Books which was started by Marvel Contest of Champions. But of course the Holy grails such as Marvel Secret Wars and DC Crisis on Infinite Earths that were in the 80's. So far great video. Keep it up!
Thanks Brian! Great points! Yeah those event books of the 80s were huge. Loved them… especially secret wars!
I really hope those macho trends come back! I loved those Stallone-Arnold type books of the 90s. I know it won't though. People are too sensitive nowadays.
Good Listen . Congratulations on hitting 10 K . We need to do a stream Soon .
Thanks Eric! We are streaming for sure this weekend!
@@Dante19883 Let me know what time .
Great idea for this video. 😀👍
No mention of underground, black and white indie comics or manga?
I don’t know much about those unfortunately. Sounds interesting though
I like the 80's. 😀👍
Thanks for the great video !
Could decompressed storytelling be considered a trend?
For sure! They totally changed story telling starting in the 80s. Way less text in comics nowadays
The glorified spalsh minimal plot and story that Image gave us when they started got old extremely fast.
Good point! I agree!
Trends in classic comics:
Capes, secret identities, accidents in a lab, orphans, rich men, scientist, usually white men with few woman.
Middle Ground Trends:
Horror, Scifi, Western, Romance, Dinos/ Monsters!
Timeless trends in comics:
Underdogs and average joes-any body can be a hero. Great art, humor with fantastic paneling. Not everyone wears capes, not everyone makes the right choices.
Unfortunate Trends in comics:
Everything's gotta be WOKE. Bad art with questionable covers.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Love the way you summarized those! Totally agree!
