Thank you.
Just watched your video. Great video, and a fair enough review. A couple of points from me though: a7rv is a hybrid camera, but it’s mainly a photography camera. It’s purpose is to mainly shoot photos. 61MP are way to many pixels, meaning they are quite small physically (thus not best for low light) and give issues such as rolling shutter since the amount of data being processed is extremely big. A professional videographer won’t even look at a7rv for video. Given all that, I only find a7rv usable for being on a tripod to shoot videos with not much movement like you tube videos. On the other hand Fx30 & a7siii are video oriented, and have a low resolution of 12 MP, because it gives advantages like low rolling shutter and greater low light performance since the corresponding sensor’s pixels are bigger. For someone who’s a professional videographer/photographer having both these types of cameras is a must. Overall, still a1, sony’s flagship is a better option over the a7rv for those who have the budget, but still, a7rv is an excellent photography camera. Anyway, let’s also wait for sony to reveal something like an a7siv or a7sv in the upcoming years. I believe they are going to adapt the AI features of a7rv
But you don't have to operate at 61 MP when doing video, in fact, you will not be for 4K60 so I don't really understand why some reviewers (not all) skip this? There is also multiple formats to choose from if one doesn't have a CFEXpress card in the slot(s). Image stabilization works well for my A7RV especially with Sony's GM II lenses. I don't find any low light issues with camera modes setup correctly (I map 3 modes to the wheel one specifically for very low light).
Hi, Rolling shutter and image stabilisation are different things (in case you are referring to it). Because you are mentioning 4K60fps: At 4k60 you get 1.2 cropped and binned image sequences from an 8K sensor. Cropped means not good. Also binned means not good. a7siii/fx30 are still winners in this category. Regarding low light, the dual base ISO resulted from the larger sensor pixels, at 640 and 12800 that the a7siii and fx30 offer is unbeatable - pair it with slog3 gama curve and you get an out of this world result. I’ll say it again, a5rv is a great camera for both video and stills. But if you want to shoot a high end movie - you just can’t go with it.
@@picturesfocused3115 I've shot commercial TV footage on a GoPro and iPhone so not really sure what your reference is to "high end movie" ... seems a bit generic. If you are referring to big budget films then none of the above and more like cameras/lens in the $300,000+ range. Yes I know rolling shutter and image stabilizations are different, not sure why you brought that up? Back to the Sony A7RV, yes 4K60 4:2:2 10 bit is 1.24 crop ... sorry but 12MP of the A7SIII just isn't in the same ballpark as the Sony A7RV.
@@picturesfocused3115 This is "RUclips reviewer" syndrome. People shoot "high end movies" on older cameras, or iPhones on occasion. Watch practical reviews of people using this camera for professional work, especially in 24fps, it does absolutely fine. It might not be ideal, but "good" is not a binary thing. The A7RV beats the A1 in numerous ways, and the A7SIII for that matter. Saying "crop is not good" shows me you may not be very familiar with practically shooting on Sony cameras. Super35 gets you some insanely crispy footage in the right situation as it downsamples.
Chris, hope you’re well. Did you sell your A7S iii and buy the R V? I’m asking as I’m really tempted to do the same for all those extra features. The things holding me back are; crop on 60 fps, I never use 120 fps anyway and the low light performance but I agree with you, I don’t think I’d need 12800 and haven’t used it at all with the A7S iii really so that shouldn’t be an issue. Interested in whether you did make the jump? Thanks !
Is it true, that when recording video, you can select a subject to track with a button instead of touching the screen? Useful when using a 600mm lens for video.
pretty sure the a7RV is going to be a stellar landscape camera. anyone knows if it would be a good astrophotography camera or low light landscape camera in general?
@@Burritosarebetterthantacos i dont doubt that. but what about low light photos? milky way photos, nightscapes etc? will it hold up well or even surpass the a7iv?
IMHO it already has better AI than phones (autofocus + I don't think we need to add unnatural blurry backgrounds + HDR mode and more already exists for JPEG).
All of these of these cameras are tools to get a job done. Buy them if you think you need a specific feature. I needed 4K 120p so i bought the A7S III and for my regular run and gun video I decided on the Panasonic G9 II was for me.
After looking at the few real example other than the talking head I would say this is quite average for video. What exactly makes it great? I am really not clear
These videos increasingly sound like sales pitches. It makes it very hard to see what is actually worth buying and what is not, especially at such premium prices. And the omission of 4k 120fps actually is a huge big deal. Shooting at 4k 120fps is actually essential for close up scenarios. And second to that it can be very useful when you don't want to use a gimbal. Sony have removed it from the A7rV feature list to give you a reason to buy their FX30.
if you don't want the free info were putting out no offence taken fella, all your witnessing is excitement about new features from someone who uses cameras for a living. 120fps isn't an omission from my understanding, it's a different camera with a different sensor to prioritize MP and Photos so likely not possible in a stable form. A7SIII and FX3 have 12mp sensors that prioritize video.
@@chrisbrockhurst Free info is great but I think fair critique is extremely important. Maybe I am wrong but being an influencer might remove that ability. I don't mean that in any negative way towards you, it just makes it harder and harder to know what is 'true' when one is considering spending thousands on a new camera body. All these latest cameras have pros and cons for sure but it's getting harder to find out what the cons are in advance and if they make or break my use case for said camera.
a video camera to make video, okay, but not a camera to make video the quality is not the same, it's like a car to go to work, I'm going to put it in a circuit automobile and racing. Don't need everything. Mix video or photo
😂 Chris… come on… A7RV is NOT for video. The rolling shutter alone is a big problem, let alone the pixel binning and crop. Just go for the Z9 if you want an affordable 8k camera, otherwise, the A7siii packs the biggest punch for the price $$$
@@chrisbrockhurst No, I have used the A7siii, Z9, A7IV, D850 and A7RIV. Given the great tracking performance in 8K on the Z9, I decided to stick with that as the hybrid go to. But the A7Siii is still king of video. 8K files are huge and slow, even for a fully powered Mac M1 Max. Haven't tried the M1 ultra. If you want to focus on video, I would recommend the FX3 instead of the ARV. The only thing I do regret is not getting the FX3 instead of the A7siii. The only camera I would categorise as "great" for video is the A7siii. The rest are good. It is all about semantics really isn't it. I just feel that talking up the video as being great on the A7RV is a bit misleading when there are far better choices for video. DPReview's video capabilities show clearly it's underwhelming. Also, the northrups did a test on the AF against the A1 and the A1 performed better for wildlife.
Changing my 7R5 back to a A74 as the AI Autofocus is rubbish .Good if your shooting Heads or Faces but for video if your shooting buildings or general scenes the AI gets confused and focuses on the wrong object or building whatever focus mode you choose .I also find the video quality worse than the A74 in 4K

Hi,
Rolling shutter and image stabilisation are different things (in case you are referring to it).
Because you are mentioning 4K60fps:
At 4k60 you get 1.2 cropped and binned image sequences from an 8K sensor.
Thanks !
@@zmo190 I got the A7RV and I’ll be honest I love it :-)
Is it true, that when recording video, you can select a subject to track with a button instead of touching the screen? Useful when using a 600mm lens for video.
Funny :-) Face Registration + Face Priority features has my 5yo RX10 IV (and I use it a lot).
This Face registration feature is kinda old, my old a6300 had it already
4:32 NO STABILIZATION IN 8k!!!!!!!! Wow. That's a big deal.
Hi! Question: there is no 120 slow motion in Sony R5 A7 R5 at all??
there is
Can it shoot 4k 24p with no crop?
Yes
Is it better than the fx3 for video??
That’s what I’d like to know. It seems like more people like the fx3 for strictly video
@@Lenny.Calisthenics The FX3 is miles ahead for video - that's coming from an A7RV owner
@@HiLoMusic Ya ive been meaning to purchase and FX3 and GmasterII 24-70mm lense
5:37 the a7iv can do 4k60 in super35 crop
With all the crop and rolling shutter? WIsh they give us a bit more.
2,1M for the LCD? My older 7R III (A) has 2,36 for the LCD.
pretty sure the a7RV is going to be a stellar landscape camera. anyone knows if it would be a good astrophotography camera or low light landscape camera in general?
@@Burritosarebetterthantacos i dont doubt that. but what about low light photos? milky way photos, nightscapes etc? will it hold up well or even surpass the a7iv?
@@Burritosarebetterthantacos already got all the great ones 😅
Were people able to do astrophotography 10 years ago? Would imagine this would outperform any consumer camera back then.
Just looking out 💯✊🏾
Appreciate you
IBIS video handheld is better but still has that jerky catch up twitchiness?🤔
Panasonic's still looks better IMHO
Yeah, the S5II stabalisation is impressive for £2000 camera, Im hoping to see a comparison soon
That flip out screen design looks shajt
It's amazing if you like aliasing, rolling shutter and/or lack of detail.
nah
Great rundown Chris! I am excited to see all of this new tech that Sony is implementing.
Appreciate this is a quick overview, but would like more of a close look into video results alongside previous models.
Heads up: Title says "A7R IV" rather than "V".
Thanks 🙏🏼
IMHO it already has better AI than phones (autofocus + I don't think we need to add unnatural blurry backgrounds + HDR mode and more already exists for JPEG).
Should I sell my a7sIII and by this one for Vlogging and travel videos? Thanks
NOOOOOOOO why would you do that?????😮
All of these of these cameras are tools to get a job done. Buy them if you think you need a specific feature. I needed 4K 120p so i bought the A7S III and for my regular run and gun video I decided on the Panasonic G9 II was for me.
My a73 and r3 has face detection the same as you described? This might better but to be honest I never really used it. Even at weddings
Well its interesting how dp review actually says this came is no good for video... rolling shutter
In 8k
Bagaimana nasib saya yang masih menggunakan alpha a77v
It seems like this A7RV is arguably better than the A1
Sony A7rv can not shot in 8k at 30p its only 24p or 25, you got it wrong.
Yep I said that in the pinned comment
@@chrisbrockhurst The comment is not pinned at least not anymore.
After looking at the few real example other than the talking head I would say this is quite average for video. What exactly makes it great? I am really not clear
PIZZA.
Sorry who's the creator eating the pizza at the beginning of the video again?
@@Steve31000 no offence taken, my best advice is to watch a few videos these days and gauge your own opinion.
The 8k video is only 420 not 422.
SAD THE A7RV WILL NOT BE A NETFLIX RECOMMENDED CAMERA.
a video camera to make video, okay, but not a camera to make video the quality is not the same, it's like a car to go to work, I'm going to put it in a circuit automobile and racing. Don't need everything. Mix video or photo
No 8K 30 fps.
good luck with 8k and compatible memory cards for that
Bro you spelt A7RV wrong.
You put A7Riv
Thankyou, fixed!
😂 Chris… come on… A7RV is NOT for video. The rolling shutter alone is a big problem, let alone the pixel binning and crop. Just go for the Z9 if you want an affordable 8k camera, otherwise, the A7siii packs the biggest punch for the price $$$
Have you used it?
A7Siii is even more amazing for video.....lol. Stick with stills on this body bud
