This entire CD tells such a fantastic story. You need to listen to it beginning to end. It will explain the background of this song.

Nailed it. Amazing how many people do not know this is the case. Another one that you should listen from beginning to end because it tells a story is Styx - Kilroy Was Here. Mr. Roboto is what most people listen to and nothing else. :(

Geoff Tate will always be one of the greatest metal singers of all time in my book. Chris DeGarmo just killed it on "Operation: Mindcrime" one of the greatest albums of all time. Other great tracks to check out are "Queen of the Reich", "Take Hold of the Flame", "The Lady Wore Black", the entire "Operation: Mindcrime" concept album, and the only cover I can think of they did was from Dalbello "Gonna Get Close To You" which is a slower mid-tempo song.

Songs include 1)Bullet The Blue Sky (U2), 2)For The Love Of Money (O'Jays), 3)Welcome To The Machine (Pink Floyd) & 4)Odissea (Italian opera song). The rest weren't that great. They did do a BRILLIANT cover of '60s folk singers' Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel called 5)Scarborough Fair back in 1990. Overall, they weren't big on covers. 6)ROADS TO MADNESS is the Queensryche song to check out. It's haunting, epic & deep. The studio album version with lyrics is the best version to hear. I'm way late to the game on reacting to your reaction. You've likely listened to the whole Mindcrime album by now. And there's their album Empire. Their albums are rock operas and tell a story. Mindcrime was about what was going on in the 80s . . . a blend of the political battle between the Soviets and US, but also the deeper criminal and political crime inside a city and within religion. And that all applies to what's going on today. I still have the live CD and VHS tape of their Madison Wisconsin Mindcrime concert and it's a classic. Watch that show . . . . . as I said it's a rock opera.

I recommend the entire Operation: Mindcrime album from start to finish as this is actually the very last song of an hour long concept album which tells the story of Nikki an Mary who gets caught up in a very dangerous underground movement bent on power, revolution and so much more. The album deals with corrupt government, organized religion, assassination and murder, drugs, prostitution and even mind control. For many years the band denied attempts to turn it in to a major motion picture but the story is right out of a Hollywood script. Think about doing a couple songs at a time and make sure to follow along with the lyrics. I think it would be great to have you try and tell us what you think is happening in the story while listening along.

Check out a track called "Point of View" by Fates Warning (album version).
Geoff Tate (Queensryche) and Ray Alder (Fates Warning) are my biggest vocal influences.
Geoff Tate odes Strawberry Fields by The Beatles and Ray Alder does Closer to the Heart by Rush (if you want covers). 💯

I loved this song before this reaction. But now you gave me a deeper appreciation for the passionate vocals Geoff Tate lays out in this song.

If you want a cover song, but one that is very different, then listen to Gonna Get Close To You, from the album, Rage For Order, from 1986. truly remarkable.
